Hi, We’re heading to Asia this summer, and to avoid arriving in the middle of the night, we’ve decided to stop over in Dubai for a day and a half on the way there and back. Any ideas for activities during this super-hot period? Bonus points if they’re reasonably priced 🙂 Which neighborhood is best to stay in? Thanks in advance, and have a great day! Bruno

Airport -> air-conditioned taxi -> air-conditioned hotel -> air-conditioned mall. Dubai in summer is an oven, I don’t see anything better to do.

What? The airport isn’t air-conditioned? 😎

Hi there, In summer, hotels aren’t expensive; pick one with a nice pool. You can treat yourself! Sightseeing: the old town and the gold and spice souks. Get a day pass for the metro. The main line is above ground and gives you a great overview of the city and its spectacular buildings. Another line takes you to the old town, and the third loops through the upscale neighborhood. All are air-conditioned. In the evening, head to the base of the tall tower to see the water show (Las Vegas-style).

No, not the fountains—they’re closed. Check out Mygodubai.com; they’ve got tours in French if needed. Right now, it’s only 47°C—it’s bearable, lol. And for hotel info, you’ll want one right by the metro, otherwise you’ll struggle and end up spending a fortune on taxis.

In the summer in Dubai, the best thing to do is clearly to prioritize indoor activities. The coolest (and totally unique) one is Ski Dubai at the Mall of the Emirates: perfect for escaping the heat and truly unforgettable.

For accommodation during a short layover, I recommend Al Barsha (convenient, often cheaper, close to Ski Dubai and the metro) or Downtown/Business Bay if you want to be in the heart of the must-see spots.

Have a great layover, everyone! !
