6 avril : arrivée à LV, nuits à l'excalibur
7 avril : mariage donc journée bien occuppée (papiers, location costume)
7 avril : LV ; visite de valley of fire et/ou red rock canyon pendant la journée, lequel me conseillez vous ? est ce que cela vaut plus le coup de prendre un "tour" ou de louer une voiture (nous partons à 1 dizaine...) ?
9 avril aprem : départ vers San Francisco avec Virgin America
9 avril soir au 13 avril : visite de SF, avec of course visite de "nuit" de Alcatraz, la messe gospel le dimanche matin, visite des différents quartiers etc... nous sommes intéréssés par le Movie's tour (tour en bus avec extraits de films tournés à SF) est ce que quelqu'un l'a fait ? c'est assez cher, est ce que cela "vaut le coup" ?
13 avril aprem : récupération de la voiture de loc et direction LA via la côte
14 avril : santa cruz, carmel, monterey ?
15 avril : visite hearst castle (avis ?), santa barbara ?
16 avril : santa monica, venice beach ? viste de catalina island ? (des avis)
17 avril : LA, visite studios Warner (des avis ?) et visite hollywood etc, nuit à LA (orbit hostel sur melrose)
18 avril : universal studios, nuit à LA (orbit hostel sur melrose)
départ le 19 avril à 8h du mat'
Ce sont surtout les jours 14 15 et 16 avril qui sont pour assez difficiles à "dégrossir" car nous avons du mal à nous rendre compte des distances et des "priorités" dans les visites, toutefois nous ne souhaitons pas trop speeder, ne pas réserver d'hotel à l'avance, mais tout de même essayer de voir le "must" de cette côte mythique.

Cela parait équilibré même si bizarement tu fais beaucoup de villes et pas de Park Nationaux (peut être un autre voyage en perspective)
Il te faudra en effet les 2 jours des 14 & 15 pour aller de San Francisco à L.A., en prenant la National 1 la route longe la côte et est vraiment magnifique :
Carmel est joli, Hearst Castle est un chateau de mégalo (1 fois m'a suffit) par contre tu peux faire Solvang c'est un village d'inspiration Danoise à côté de Santa Barbara.

Ca ne vaut pas le coup (coût). Surtout en avril où les routes sont partiellement closes. Vous êtes 10. Pourquoi ne pas prendre un tour en avion vers le Grand Canyon ? Au moins les mariés 😛. Même si vous êtes urbains, ça restera un moment inoubliable, surtout en regard de Hearst castle 🏴☠️
J'ai fait trois tours organisés. En 1988, six jours (NYC - Washington - Niagara Falls) et six dans le Grand Ouest (LA - Las Vegas - Grand Canyon - Bryce Canyon - Zion - Page)... Dans le désordre... 😉
En 2005, j'ai remis le couvert avec cette fois-ci un tour organisé de 12 jours / 11 nuits de Los Angeles à San Francisco en passant par le Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, Bryce Canyon, Las Vegas, Death Valley, Yosemite...
Je garde de bons souvenirs de ces tours. Cela m'a permis de voir un maximum de choses en un minimum de temps. Certes les visites sont hyper rapides, mais pas de perte de temps à chercher les sites à découvrir.
Que ce soit en 1988 ou en 2005, ces tours organisés ne représentaient que 50% de mon séjours aux USA, le reste, je le passais à visiter pour mon propre compte les grandes villes comme Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, Memphis, Orlando et ses parcs...
L'avantage de ces tours, c'est leurs coûts modérés. Tout est compris, les nuits dans de bons hôtels, la plupart des repas, le car, les entrées des parcs... Et en plus, on fait connaissances de pleins de gens sympas de tout âge.
L'inconvénient, il faut suivre le troupeau et tout le monde s'arrache les mêmes photos... On speed vraiment, mais les voyages en car sont reposant dans la mesure ques paysages sont paradisiaques.
Pour 2008, cet été, je pars avec mon gamin et cette fois-ci sans le moindre tour organisé. C'est très excitant de se lancer dans une telle aventure.
merci, mais nous organisons tout nous mêmes pour ce voyage, nous hésitons juste à prendre un "tour" pour une journée au départ de SF (un bus vient vous chercher le matin et vous ramene à l'hotel le soir ) pour aller voir Yosemite, mais je ne sais pas si c'est véritablement intéressant (prix : 129 USD, durée 14h) par rapport au fait de prendre la voiture de loc un jour plus tôt et de se lancer tous seuls (nous serions 2 ou 4 intéréssés par cette visite) mais j'ai peur que la visite du parc soit encore plus courte qu'avec un "tour" si nous nous perdons en route et / ou que nous ne savons pas vraiment bien nous repérer pour ne rien louper parmi les "indispensables"...
c'est pourquoi je demandais si quelqu'un avait déjà fait une visite de ce type (avec par exemple extranomical adventures ou incredible adventures) ...
c'est vrai que je ne l'ai pas indiqué mais certains vont aller voir le grand canyon en helico (avec papillon, grand celebration tour), les mariés par solidarité avec leurs amis ayant cassé leur tirelire pour venir, ont prévu une visite plus light niveau budget : valley of fire ou red rock canyon, ou les 2 si le timing le permet, ou autre chose si vous avez de meilleures suggestions ...
l'helico ou l'avion pour nous ce sera pour la prochaine fois ! il faut savoir faire des choix 🤪 mais merci pour la suggestion !
Aller à Yosemite en voiture depuis SF n'est pas compliqué, la preuve je l'ai fait. Le parc vaut le coup rien que pour ses séquoias géants, glacier point, le half dome, les chutes d'eau... Par contre c'est env 300 km pour y aller donc en voiture il faut pas partir tard pour en profiter un peu.
Nous avons choisi de partir en avril à la découverte du Grand Ouest américain. Le périple est fixe pour le logement, 13 nuits, avec déjeuner/diner libres et déplacement en voiture de loc.LALas VegasZionBryce CanyonLake PowellMonument ValleyGrand CanyonLas VegasDeath ValleyYosemiteSan FranciscoJ'ai déjà fait un repérage du circuit avec Google Earth et mappy + guide de voyage de la région.
Par contre j'ai du mal à faire des prévisions concernant l'habillement à prévoir. Une bonne partie du circuit se fait en montagne, enfin je pense, une autre en zone désertique et pour finir en ville...Bref quelle garde-robe à prévoir ?? je rappelle que c'est prévu en avril.
Pour l'occasion, je prévois l'achat d'un appareil photo type compact. Compte tenu du $, j'envisage de l'acheter sur place en arrivant à LA mais toujours le même PB de TVA. C'est du pile ou face.
Dernier point concernant le budget à prévoir pour d'une part pour les repas, déjeuner et diner ?? je pars sur 5$ le midi et 10$ le soir et d'autre partpour les visites et excursions. Pour ce dernier point, j'ai compris qu'il existait une carte d'accès par voiture pour tous les parcs mais pas plus de détail.

Excellent choix. Ce tour est magnifique. Je suppose que tes amis ont aussi pris l'option survol du strip. Si ce n'est pas le cas, pas grave, ils peuvent toujours passer un coup de fil pour rajouter l'option (+30 dollars). C'est aussi splendide.
Sinon, pour ceux qui n'iront pas voir le Grand Canyon, pensez à un survol de nuit du strip. C'est plus abordable en terme de prix (de 64 à 83 dollars chez Papillon selon la date de réservation)
En tout cas chouette programme. Abandonnez l'aller/retour sur Yosemite. Comme vous le dites vous ferez les parcs une autre fois.

J-9 : Départ pour Las vegas au matin, on compte bien 5 heures de route. Pour l’aprèm, ça sera arrêt au Outlet Center pr un phase shopping (sud de LV) puis direction hôtel sur le strip (on pense à l'impérial palace : petit budget 50-60 euros/jour pr 3 jours)
J-10 : Visite du Strip (Hotel, Casino, attractions gratuites, spectacle du cirque du soleil sûrement le spectable Mystère... vous connaissez? …)
J-11 : Visite du 1/ Red rock canyon ou 2/ Lake Mead et barrage Hoover Dam mais nous avons une préférence pour le 1er choix. On aurait aimé aller voir le grand canyon mais on ne peut pas tout faire en si peu de jour...
J-12 : au matin, direction aéroport, on rend la voiture de location et on prend un vol pr retour sur Dallas, pour repasser 2 jours en compagnie de notre ami avant de revenir en France…

nous avons fait deux fois la côte ouest par nous même, les deux fois en 15 jours bien sur c'est trop court mais on a essayé de voir le maximum. nous avons descendu la route n° 1 de SF plus exactement de Monterey si vous avez du temps prévoye 2 jours mais nous l'avons fait d'une traite jusqu'à LA en faisant l'impasse sur Heasrt castle. Je regrette de ne pas être reste un peu plus à Carmel. Pour la saison c'est bien parce qu'il ne fait pas chaud et il n'y a vraiment "personne sur la route". Nous non plus nous n'avons jamais reserve d'hotel à cette epoque on peut marchander le prix des chambres, c'est bon à savoir. Bon voyage
Pour Los Angeles:
* Hollywood Boulevard: Je suppose que vous allez faire la partie près du Mann Chinese Theater et walk of fame auquel cas pas de souci mais même les autres zones du boulevard sont ok à mon sens (en particulier en voiture)
* Je le rementionne mais aller voir un soir le coucher du soleil mais surtout la vue de nuit depuis le Griffith Park Observatory
* Venice Beach?
Pour Las Vegas:
* Cirque du Soleil: J'ai découvert avec le spectacle Zumanity
* La Vallée de la mort n'est pas si loin (2h de Vegas)
Pour la voiture, vu les tailles je pense qu'une catégorie A suffit, je trouve qu'elle est déjà énorme même s'ils vont te faire le coup: vous allez faire bcq de km, vous avez bcq de bagages, ... Franchement, le coffre d'une A est grand et au pis il y a encore les sièges arrière.
Sinon pas mal le programme 😉

Pour ma part, j'y suis déjà allé, et j'ai vraiment été très déçu !
Sur les différents site, ca avait vraiment l'air bien, mais arrivé la bas, très décevant, pas beau, pas confortable...
Et il y a tellement d'autre très beau hotel comme le Bellagio, le cesar palace....
Tu le fais dans quelle chapelle ton mariage ? Et tu loue où ta robe et le costume ?
Pour le reste de ton voyage, le timing est bien ficelé.
J'ai aussi fait le Movie's tour et c'était vraiment excellent, surtout pour des fans du cinéma américain !
Je ne peux que te le recommander, Tu en as vraiment pour ton prix.
Les studios Warner, je n'ai pas trouvé ca terrible, surtout si tu fais déjà Universal.
Pour Universal, j'avais été très déçu, vu le prix on a vite fait le tour.
Par contre, j'ai fait le vrai Disneyland, et la, c'est l'éclate totale !

pour le mariage, on a réservé à the little chapel of the flowers, pour l'instant c'est top meme si on a bien sur mis plus que ce qu'on pensait au départ... je vous en dirais plus à mon retour ! pour ma robe, je l'emmene (je ne sais pas vraiment encore comment aie aie aie, j'avais déjà posté à ce sujet, si des personnes ont de nouvelles expériences je suis preneuse!), et le costume on va le louer certainement dans la boutique "partenaire" de la chapelle.
pour l'hotel excalibur nous avions un imperatif de prix (nous partons en groupe à vegas)donc bon le vrai palace à 2 ce sera pour le renouvellement des voeux...
pour les studios, je vis avec un fan ultime de ciné donc bon... je me disais aussi qu'une "pause" de visite de 2 heures en voiture de golf ça pouvait etre sympa apres 2 semaines de visites à pied... pourquoi as tu été déçue des studios warner ? les studios universal sont incontournables, par contre nous n'aurons pas le temps d'aller à Disneyland.
aussi, y a t il des films vraiment à revoir avant de partir pour profiter à fond du movie's tour ??

Le Movie's tour concernant SF. pouvez vous m'en dire un peu plus sur ce que c'est, comment ça se passe? la durée, et le tarif environ?
Universal Studios déçu donc? un des rares commentaires disant cela donc. pourvez vous m'en dire les raisons principales?
Et concernant Disneyland Anaheim, c'est donc si bien que ça? Pour l'instant c'et plutot l'inverse, on me disait d'aller à universal et pas à Disney.

Pas forcément, je l'ai fait en 6 heures... Donc il te resterait du temps pour faire une virée au Griffith Park et t'offrir l'un de tes plus beaux souvenirs de L.A, à savoir une vue imprenable du coucher de soleil sur la cité des anges.
Ou alors prendre du soleil et te baigner à Santa Monica ou Malibu.
C'est clair que deux jours, c'est plutôt court pour une ville telle que Los Angeles.
Sur que c'est court, mais on fais un tour de 20 jours, et deja 3 jours à Vegas et 3 jours à SF.

Pas de soucis au parc, comme pour tous les endroits touristiques, tu ne risques rien à L.A. C'est bien sécurisé.
Faut juste y aller avant 17h, sauf erreur, car ensuite ils ferment le parc.
Mais si tu es à l'intérieur, pas de blème, tu peux sortir quand tu veux.
Il y a aussi souvent des concerts, ce qui peut créer des bouchons.
A l'entrée, il y a une plaque commémorative en la mémoire de feu George Harrison. L'ex-Beatle faisait partie des plus gros donateurs du Griffith Park.
Quand j'y suis allé, l'observatoire était en travaux. Mais tu peux faire une jolie ballade en montant cette colline et assister au coucher de soleil sur L.A. A droite, tu auras une jolie vue sur le signe Hollywood.

Hello everyone! Really damaged due to flooding caused by runoff after forest fires (a total mess!), does anyone in this friendly forum have any updates on the Apache Trail between Apache Junction and Roosevelt Dam? Is there still a section of the road that’s tough to navigate?
We're leaving at the end of June and will be driving the route between Buffalo and Cody. We’ve already booked our accommodations and a rodeo in Cody, but during the day, we’ll be driving between the two and I’m unsure about the itinerary.
Which route do you think is the most pleasant, interesting, or scenic between:
- The northern route via Highway 14 with Sheridan, Lowell, etc.
- The southern route with Highways 16/20/14, passing by Loaf Mountain Overlook, Powder River Pass, Ten Sleep Canyon...
We’ll be in a car, so we should be able to drive on any road.

I’m almost done planning our September road trip. After our 3-night visit to Sequoia, we’ll have a stopover night in Coalinga (to break up the drive). We’ll be staying two nights in Monterey and would like to stop along the way to visit one side of Pinnacles National Park. We’re torn between the West entrance and the East entrance, and we’d like to do a short hike of no more than 2 hours since we don’t want to arrive too late in Monterey.
This park is split into two distinct zones with no connection between them, and the mileage from Coalinga to Monterey is pretty much the same for both. Which area do you recommend visiting—east or west? And which route is the most scenic?
I’ve spotted two short hikes:
- East: Moses Spring to Rim Trail Loop
- West: Balconies Cliffs Cave Loop
Has anyone been there, or do you have another hike to suggest?

After our first trip as a young couple to the West in 2007 (yes, that doesn’t make us any younger!), we’re planning to go back in 2028, but this time as a family of four! (We have two boys who’ll be 5½ and 13 years old in the summer of 2028.)
Our plan is to combine a few big cities (SF and LA, maybe San Diego) with national parks and state parks, mostly!
Ideally, we’d like to leave at the end of June and head back to France around July 19–20, so we can enjoy the first week of the Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
Since we already did the "loop" in 2007, there are must-see places we absolutely want to revisit—and especially share with our kids: Bryce Canyon, Yosemite, and above all, the Grand Canyon, which is still the most incredible thing I’ve ever seen on Earth!
On the other hand, some places didn’t leave a big impression on us for various reasons, so we’re not making them a priority: Antelope Canyon, Monument Valley, for example.
We’re planning ahead, but might as well be smart about it😏
Do you have any tips for a fun and doable itinerary over about 20–25 days with kids, without rushing?

Just a quick question about King Canyon and Sequoia National Park.
Before our night in Miramonte, we plan to visit King Canyon. The next stop will be two nights in Three Rivers to explore Sequoia National Park. I wanted to go all the way to Roaring River Falls on the King Canyon Scenic Byway and then turn back to head to Miramonte. Since we’re coming from Oakhurst, Google Maps says it’s 300 km and 5 hours of driving. Since we also want to hike to see the sequoias (Big Stump Area and Grand Grove) before tackling the King Canyon Scenic Byway, the timing’s going to be tight. How far do you recommend going before turning back to miss as few points of interest as possible on the King Canyon Scenic Byway? Thanks for your advice, and have a great evening!

After years of hoping, waiting, planning, then changing, saving, and searching for the best possible route... we're FINALLY off this summer for a 5-week road trip in the West.
I had planned a trip to Colorado in 2021 but canceled due to COVID, so with time passing and my eldest’s high school graduation approaching fast, I figured it was now or never!

We’ll be alternating between house swaps, motels, and campgrounds. I’ve booked all the accommodations (except the campground at Bryce since sunset bookings open only 14 days in advance) and the first activities, as well as the most touristy ones.
I’m currently putting together my day-by-day roadbook and having some trouble planning certain days, like in LA or Las Vegas. Choosing hikes isn’t easy either—it’s tough to decide!

I’d like to travel along I-15N from San Diego to Las Vegas with my mom, who’s 67. We’ve explored Northern California and the California Coast over the past two years and now want to continue through the desert.
There are several attractions along the way:
- Mormon Rocks
- Desert Discovery Center and visit the Old Woman meteorite
- Joshua Tree National Park
- Mojave Desert
- Mojave National Preserve
- Anza-Borrego Desert State Park
- Silverwood Lake
My mom has back issues that prevent her from hiking or walking on trails with elevation changes. Is it possible to visit these places by car, or are the routes flat enough?
I’d love for her to experience the desert with an itinerary adapted to her condition. I’m also open to other points of interest that aren’t mentioned. We have 3-4 days for the trip, so we’re not in a rush—just want to explore.
I’d love to take a road trip and visit Nova Scotia. I’d appreciate some info on the best cities to see and the most interesting spots. The trip should last about 10 to 15 days, staying in hotels or motels. Thanks in advance!

Is it pretty easy to navigate Detroit Airport to catch the connecting flight to Grand Rapids (domestic flight)? There are several of them who speak English well.

We’d like to walk to Eagle Falls and then Eagle Lake. I’ve spotted two parking lots that seem close to each other and give access to the trailhead. Where and how do we pay for entry to Emerald Bay State Park and Inspiration Point?
**Viewpoints on the East Side:**
Are most of the viewpoints (Balancing Rock, Granite Cave, Bonsai Rock, etc.) right by the road, or do you have to hike to reach them?
**Donner Memorial State Park:**
Is it worth making a detour to Truckee to visit this park and the Truckee historic downtown?

I'm shocked by the price of the Upper Antelope Canyon tour—$175 for less than an hour… You might say, "if you can’t afford it…" But the real question is whether it’s really worth it, because $350 for two makes me feel like I’m getting ripped off. I’ve read there are trails to access the trailheads for Cinder Cone (11 km) and Warner Valley. Are these easy trails for an SUV?
Are there any other must-see spots or things we shouldn’t miss?

I’m a total USA addict. I’ve already done several road trips, including the East Coast and West Coast.
I’m here today because I’m planning to go back for another road trip on the West Coast. Possibly with one of my sisters and a couple of friends. It’s still just a plan for now, but I’m working on an itinerary in the meantime. Ideally, I’d leave in 2026, but I don’t have the exact dates yet—maybe April-May or September-October.
My last trip to the West Coast was in September 2014. We went for 2 weeks, but this time it’d be 3 weeks. What made me want to go back was simply a colleague who just left today. As I’m writing this, he’s on the plane. I’m so happy for him, but now all I can think about is going back.
Since I recently went to NY, I noticed that prices have really gone up. I assume the same is true for the West Coast? For 2 people over 3 weeks, what budget should I expect? We’re the type to watch our spending and find great tips.
I think we’ll arrive in San Francisco like the first time and leave from either Los Angeles or Las Vegas.

Travelers to the United States | Photo Now Mandatory Upon Entry and Exit | La Presse
I assume many of you already know, but the America the Beautiful annual pass, which was $80, will increase to $250 starting January 1, 2026.
So if you're planning to travel before the end of December 2026, it's in your best interest to buy your pass in December 2025, since it will still cost $80 and be valid until the end of December 2026 if you purchase it in December 2025.
This price increase only applies to non-U.S. residents.
Additionally, for those who planned to visit just one park, a $100 surcharge per person will apply to access a list of 11 national parks...
For example, if there are 4 of you in a car, you’ll have to pay $35 + $400,
which comes to $435 to visit one of the 11 parks on the list (I don’t have all of them... Bryce, Zion, Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Grand Teton, etc.).
Total madness.
The goal is to push people who only visit one park into buying the annual pass.
Last point: free entry days are over for non-residents!
