Good evening,

Could you tell me if this itinerary is doable

Nothing’s impossible if you plan to visit airports and spend your time in transit.

For reference, we did half of your itinerary in a month (BA - Salta - Tolar Grande - Iguazu - Esteros del Iberá).

So?... 😕 😐 🙁

So, what do you think? 😉 I’m still weighing up my itinerary—I’ll probably skip Tolar Grande, spend more time around Salta with some loops, and definitely visit Valdés since it’s whale season and there are other marine mammals around. For flights, I’ll try to keep them to a minimum, but I’m really not keen on a 24-hour journey!

hi there, is it really not possible to add half a day to see the falls? Otherwise, you’ll be seeing them at a sprint.
AU Audreyaussie ·
If it's possible, it depends on your arrival time in Iguazu because I see that you need half a day for the Brazilian side of the falls and a full day for the Argentine side
MA Mathews Globetrotter ·
It's not just the falls—you can also explore the Argentine side of the tropical forest! 🙂
AU Audreyaussie ·
Yeah, that’s true—I can send you a PM once I’ve improved my itinerary?

if you want, I don’t mind 🙂. But wouldn’t it be better to ask questions publicly here? That way, you’ll still get more answers.

So what?

Well, yes, there *is* a "reply" button. You can use it safely! Looks like you don’t dare... https://voyageforum.com/v.f?post=10668383#10668383

If it’s possible, it depends on your arrival time in Iguazu

And it also depends on any potential flight delays, which aren’t uncommon in South America. FYI, ours was half a day late on a direct Salta-Iguazu flight. It’s a risk to keep in mind. Most of the time, you’ll have to connect through BA for domestic flights, which adds to travel time.

I made some changes... to stay longer exploring the northwest, wander around a bit. Small question about altitude sickness—how do you manage it? 14/09: Arrival in BA at 9:45 PM 15/09: BA 16/09: Flight or bus to Iguazu 17–18/09: Iguazu (waterfalls + surroundings) 19/09–21/09: Flight to Salta + visit Salta 22/09–02/10: North + South loop in 11 full days (rental vehicle) 03/10–06/10: Flight to Puerto Madryn + visit Península Valdés + return to BA on 06/10 or 07/10 08/10: BA 09/10: Flight to Paris at 2:40 PM

Hi there,

03/10 to 06/10: Flight to Puerto Madryn + visit to Península Valdés + return to BA on 06/10 or 07/10

If I may, why go so far in such a short time? If it's for the wildlife, I’d suggest another option that doesn’t require taking a flight: the Esteros del Iberá.

Located in Corrientes Province, so relatively close to Iguazú Falls, the Esteros del Iberá are the second-largest wetlands in the world (esteros = marshes), making them somewhat of a small "Pantanal." It’s the country’s largest natural reserve, protecting an incredibly rich biodiversity: Yacare caiman, marsh deer, capybara, armadillo, rhea, otter, and countless bird species, many of which are endemic. Canoeing trips are a real treat. The only places I’ve seen such a concentration of wildlife are in East and Southern Africa.

The advantage for you is the location of the Esteros, between Iguazú Falls and BA. The challenge, I’ll admit, is getting from Puerto Iguazú to Mercedes, the gateway to the reserve where most accommodations are. You’ll need to stop in Corrientes. But overnight buses are very comfortable. From Corrientes to BA, the buses are direct.

The capybara, the world’s largest rodent and an iconic species of the Esteros

The VF system, trying to be too helpful, redirected via a link to the wrong city.

It's about Mercedes in Corrientes province, not the other one in Buenos Aires province!!

Actually, it’s important to make the post visible to as many people as possible... You might reach a member who remembers their past trip and can answer you... For MDM (high-altitude mountain), good acclimatization is recommended, or take Diamox (after consulting your doctor) only if symptoms appear—but definitely not as a preventive measure.
