Bonjour à tous,
J'ai 22 ans et je termine mes études dans la création publicitaire en septembre prochain. J’aimerai donc profiter de la période de fin d’études, avant d’avoir un job, pour partir 3 mois aux USA et perfectionner mon anglais.
J'ai trouvé de nombreux programmes linguistiques pour être logée et apprendre l'anglais en école mais voilà j'hésite sur la ville, sur l'Etat ...
Je suis originaire du Sud de la France mais je vis sur Paris depuis un an et je risque d'y rester encore quelque temps (monde de la Publicité tout ça ...).
Du coup quitte à choisir je préférai passer ces 3 mois au soleil, donc Californie, Floride, voire Caroline du Sud ... (?)
Pour les quelques recherches que j’ai effectué, j’ai retenu que :
Californie = faut avoir beaucoup d’argent
LA = les gens sont snob, et dur de s’y déplacer si pas de voiture
Floride = culture très latino, beaucoup d’animaux tropicaux
Miami = une sorte de Saint Tropez, difficile de s’y déplacer sans voiture aussi, ville sportive
J’ai regardé aussi du côté de San Francisco, Santa Barbara, Orlando, bref Californie et Cote Ouest.
Je pense que pour 3 mois l’essentiel à regarder c’est les activités, la qualité de vie, l’insertion dans la culture américaine, le contact avec les américains, et le coût de la vie.
J’aimerai essayer de voyager un peu autour si possible donc ne pas rester essentiellement dans la ville où je résiderai.
Pour mon niveau d’anglais, je comprends et je parle plutôt bien à l’écrit, même si quelques fois certains mots m’échappent. C’est pour l’oral que c’est plus problématique, pour le parler et le comprendre. Mais je saurais m’en sortir dans la vie quotidienne.
A savoir aussi, j'ai le permis depuis 4 ans donc possibilité de louer une voiture si vraiment c'est nécessaire mais je ne connais pas du tout les démarches et le fonctionnement de location de voitures.
PS : si vous connaissez d’autres méthodes pour partir aux USA et apprendre/perfectionner la langue en quelques mois, c’est avec plaisir que je lirai vos recommandations. De même pour les écoles qui proposent ce genre d’enseignement.

Visez un programme de moins de 90 jours, pour ne pas être obligée de demander un visa ( 90j, pas 3 mois!).
Pour les locations de voitures il y a plein de posts sur le forum, mais attention à la surtaxe conducteur de - de 25 ans ( parfois moins )
Je suis partie moi avec EF Education à Londres, New York et Sydney. Sur l'année 2014/2015. Et sa c'est très bien passé. Ils te proposent plusieurs programmes, avec plus ou moins d'heures de cours. Les cours sont assez varié, prononciation à l'aide d'un PC, des cours généraux, des cours spécifiques (par thème, photo, grammaire, culture du pays, ... ) avec une classe de 10-15 étudiants. EF à ces propres écoles, donc tu trouveras du personnel EF, si tu as un soucis. On est bien encadré, suivi et conseillé. En plus de s'amélioré en langue, c'est une aventure humaine extraordinaire, tu rencontreras plein de personnes des 4 coins du monde, sa te permettra aussi d'élargir ton réseaux professionnel.
Je vois que tu hésites entre plusieurs destinations, je peux te trouver des personnes qui sont partie dans une écoles et tu pourras échanger avec eux.
Concernant les US, malheureusement prendre un véhicule quand on a moins de 25 ans, ça coûte un bras en assurance, qui peut te revenir plus chère que la location.
Si tu as des questions n'hésite pas.
Concernant EF, j'ai vu plusieurs avis sur ce programme qui pour la plupart était négatifs car trop de Français en classe et un effectif en classe trop élevé pour apprendre correctement la langue.
J'ai listé Boa Lingua, ELC et SILC.
Concernant l'Etat je suis vraiment attirée par la Californie et surtout San Francisco car peur du "trop grand LA".
Mais je suis à l'écoute de toutes tes recommandations et avis sur les villes où il fait bon vivre et étudier la langue.
Ca serait donc avec plaisir que j'échangerai avec des personnes que tu connais qui sont parties en Californie ou bien vers la Floride.

J'hésite désormais entre San Diego et San Francisco (encore et toujours). La vie à San Francisco est très chère et le climat n’est pas top. Tandis qu’à San Diego c’est le contraire.
Mais bon San Francisco c’est Francisco quoi … Donc grosse hésitation.
Concernant les organismes, je me suis décidée sur un après avoir recherché et m’être renseignée deux semaines sur ce sujet. C’est AILS qui répond le mieux à mes exigences. C’est à dire que c’est un des moins cher que j’ai pu trouver et pourtant tout aussi bien (agréée par l’Office national de garantie des séjours et stages linguistiques). Donc très fiable.
Après une amie m’a parlé d’une école (sans passer pas un organisme) qui est dans la Silicon Vallée (proche de SF) qui propose exactement la même chose que tous ces organismes (hébergement, cours) et elle m’a dit que les cours étaient géniaux. L’école s’appelle Language Pacifica si tu veux regarder.
Niveau financier elle est au même niveau que l’école AILS (cours à Saint Giles).
Voilà ce qu’il en est de mon côté :)
Personnellement je ne ferais que 8 semaines de cours et je me débrouillerais les dernières 4 semaines car ça revient trop cher pour ma part.
J'ai finalement choisi d'aller à San Diego et je suis partie avec l'organisme Voyage Langue, comme toi :)
J'ai à l'école Embassy English et je l'ai trouvé très bien. Petits groupes d'élève en classe (maximum 14) et les cours varient entre discussions et grammaire. Après ça dépend du prof mais globalement ils fonctionnent tous de la même façon. Moi j'ai choisi du coup d'être en famille d'accueil et j'ai pris un programme de cours qui s'appelle "vacation and travel" ce qui te permet d'avoir ton après midi et ton vendredi (cool pour voyager et profiter de la ville l'après midi).
Pour San Diego, honnêtement si je le pouvais j'y serais restée et j'hésite même à y retourner pour m'y installer tellement j'ai aimé. La ville est grande mais en fait pas tant que ça, si t'as pas de voiture ça ne pose aucun problème, y a un centre ville à taille "normal" en gros tu peux le faire tranquillement à pieds et à l'intérieur de ce centre ville t'as tout pleins de restau ainsi que des bars et des nightclubs. Ensuite t'as des quartiers résidentiels et la côte avec les plages. Les plages ont toutes chacune un truc particulier qui les distingue. Elles sont paradisiaques et tu peux faire pas mal d'activités. Ensuite le temps à San Diego est génial, entre 22 et 27 degrés en journée, avec le soleil de la Californie tu n'as besoin que d'un tshirt (limite un débardeur) et d'un pull dans ton sac quand le soleil se couche. Le paradis quoi.
Sinon, moi j'y suis restée qu'un mois car je pouvais pas finalement y passer 3 mois. En 1 mois j'ai occupé tous mes week end et j'ai pu aller à Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Grand Canyon et Route 66. Je te déconseille de choisir LA pour ton séjour car c'est l'horreur pour s'y déplacer sans voiture (1h de trajet de métro pour l’équivalent de 20 min en voiture et encore). J'ai pas trouvé ça très beau ni très sympa en terme de style de vie (à part Venice Beach et Santa Monica). Y a énormément de SDF et les gens ont pas le temps pour toi, c'est pas la même chose qu'à San Diego où si t'es Française/Français t'es vénéré limite. Enfin bon après c'est mon avis mais sans voiture ça reste très compliqué.
J'ai essayé de "résumer" mon séjour en ce qui concerne mes choix de destination, organisme etc. Si tu le souhaites je serais ravie de répondre à tes questions si tu en as et de rentrer dans les détails. N'hésite pas :)
