Nous partons à deux 21 jours au mois d'août pour le Botswana et la Namibie, en atterrissant à Johannesburg. Nous allons louer un véhicule à l'aéroport de Johannesburg et nous hésitons à prendre, une voiture classique (300€), un 2X4 (600€) ou un 4X4 (?€) avec ou sans tente sur le toit (dans tout les cas nous dormirons au camping, enfin si il reste de la place...). Les devis sont en cours dans différentes agences, mais notre budget étant serré, pensez-vous que se serait possible de louer une voiture basique et de passer par un TO pour visiter Chobe et rencontrer les Himbas, sans être embêter sur les routes que notre GPS nous indiquera (ça c'est un autre problème car nous avons un GPS Tomtom) ?

-Francistown/Chutes Victoria
-Chutes Victoria/Kasane
-(2 à 3 jours à Chobe) TO?
-Départ de Ngoma Gate ou du Maun vers Rundu

-Aller rencontrer les Himbas via TO
-Opuwo/Swakopmund
-2 jours à Sossusvlei
-Sesriem/Ai Ais
-Ai Ais/Vryburg
-Vryburg/Johannesburg
Nous nous demandons aussi si le coût d'un emplacement de camping en tente igloo ou en tente sur le toit d'un 4X4 est le même dans les campings?
Si ton budget est serré et vu ton parcours, ne prends pas de 4x4, il faudra effectivement prendre un TO pour aller à Chobe, mais pour les Himbas, tu pourras en voir dan s la région d' Opuwo sans 4x4 ou visiter un village près d'Epupa ou d'Opuwo en passant par un TO local.
La visite de Sossusvlei nécessitera aussi le recours à un TO à moins de se garer loin du site.
le prix du camping c'est à la personne et au véhicule.
Pour aller à Opuwo, peu importe la route tant que tu restes sur les gravel road ou les routes bitumées .

A moins d'être vraiment ric-rac point de vue budget, je prendrais le SUV.
Ça sera mieux sur les pistes et plus pratique point de vue espace pour les affaires de camping + provisions+ eau + bois etc.

Par ailleurs, il est inutile de s'embêter à aller aux chutes avec le véhicule de location.
De nombreuses agences refusent l'entrée dans ce pays et il y aura de nombreux frais à payer (au loueur mais aussi à la frontière). Sans compter la perte de temps à la frontière pour accomplir les formalités du véhicule et à l'aller et au retour.
Le mieux est donc de rester sur Kasane et de prendre une excursion à la journée dans l'une des agences de la ville. (c'est très courant comme excursion)
Idem pour les visites au Chobé .

Le delta de l'okavango est une destination plutôt coûteuse...
Et en suv ou en sedan, il faudra prendre le goudron via Nata.
Je pense qu'en 21 jours, il vaut mieux oublier.

Certaines fois, particulièrement dans les parcs sud africains, le prix de l'emplacement est obligatoirement pour 2 même s'il n'y a qu'un campeur mais comme vous serez 2...

Ben pourquoi? Il suffit d'aller jusqu'au parking et de prendre une navette pour Sossusvlei, tout le reste du parc est goudronné. La navette coûte une dizaine d'euro par personne voire moins.

Avez-vous des tuyaux pour les locations de 2X4 à Johannesburg par hasard?
L'année dernière nous étions passées par Europcar pour la location de voiture en Afrique du Sud (voiture très basique puisque nous avions opté pour une Kia) mais peut être qu'il y a d'autres compagnies plus attrayantes et adaptées à notre besoin non?

Pour l 'instant, je paye, dans la masse des frais de ce genre de voyages, ça reste un détail. 🙂

j'ai regardé Namvicar, c'est effectivement intéressant si on est nombreux mais par contre cela a deux inconvénients, le prix si c'est un guide et non un simple chauffeur, et l'inconfort d'un tel véhicule, la clim en particulier risque d'être très très insuffisante surtout passé les 50-60 cm derrière la rangée conducteur.... donc chaleur et poussière car obligation d'ouvrir les fenêtres arrières !🏴☠️
En oct 2015 nous avions un Defender 7 places, la clim est souffreteuse, les passagers arrières avaient souvent chaud et notre grand garçon qui était en 3° rangée se plaignait régulièrement, il me dit texto "on crevait....😄", bref le Defender c'est bien à deux 🤪. Je précise que la voiture avait 40 000 bornes donc quasi neuve 🤪🤪.

le Toy Quantum nous l'avions loué en AFS en 2013, franchement c'est sans problème pour la Namibie sauf pour Puros. Etosha sans problème avec le Quantum, etc.

Rien à voir avec le titre de la discussion, mais j'aimerais savoir si quelqu'un aurait une solution pour la réservation des campings au Botswana et en Namibie? Je souhaiterais passer par un intermédiaire histoire de ne pas payer 50€ de frais bancaire pour un dépôt de 3€ pour chacune de mes nuits. Je suis en contact avec un T.O Francophone au Botswana qui devrait m'envoyer un devis d'ici lundi. Mais peut être auriez-vous d'autres solutions ou des contacts?
En dehors des parcs, il suffit généralement de réserver directement auprès des différents campings.
Certains ne demandent pas de paiement, d'autres proposent un paiement sécurisé en carte bancaire, d'autres enfin envoient une autorisation de débit à remplir et retourner par mail.
Après il y a encore quelques ratés...
Pour les emplacements à l'intérieur des parcs, c'est euhhh incertain au Botswana. Pour la Namibie, je ne sais pas, je n'ai jamais essayé.
Si tu réserves via un TO, je crois que leur commission est fixe quelque soit le nombre de réservations. C'est donc valable si tu réserves tout chez le même et que tu peux payer par carte bancaire.
En revanche, quand tu n'as qu'un truc à réserver...🤪
Pour le moment les seuls campings dans lesquels j'ai cherché à réserver, mon demandés de faire un virement un bancaire et lorsque je refusais et demandais une autre solution, ils voulaient avoir mes numéros de CB...😮
Soit pas de résa car pas de problème d'affluence en Namibie en dehors de Sesriem et Etosha, soit résa mais uniquement "oral" sans versement car les frais de virement sont très élevés, ce qui revient à pas de résa, si par malheur le camping était complet 😉.
Réserver tous les camping n'est franchement pas utile dans ce pays en dehors des sites sus cités...

Très bien aussi, ils te réservent tes campsites selon tes désirs, il ne faut pas rechigner à bien se renseigner sur les différents campsites des parcs, il y en a pour tous les goûts, très isolés ( 1 emplacement tous les 20 km à Passarge dans le Kalahari(!) ) ou proches les un des autres ( une centaine de m à Khumaga dans le Magkadigkadi)

Nous avons déjà sélectionné tous les campings, donc le travail est déjà bien avancé.
L'avantage de passer par un TO sera peut être de réussir à avoir de la place dans Etosha, Sesriem (mais je crois que cela ne sera pas possible car nous avons loué une Polo) et pour le Botswana au Thebe Safari Lodge qui ne prend pas de réservation sauf TO.

nous partons toujours en septembre/octobre et j'ai pour ma part vu des Italiens se faire refouler d'Okaukuejo (Etosha) car ils n'avaient pas réservé et le camping était complet, c'était fin septembre 2014. Donc dans ces zones très visitées, prudence... 🙂

We’re planning a 4x4 trip from Belgium to Central Asia, passing through Georgia, Russia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan.
For these countries, our national insurance obviously doesn’t cover the vehicle, so we’ll need to get local insurance.
Will it be a problem if the vehicle is registered under person A and the national insurance is under person B? Both A and B will be in the vehicle, and both will be listed as drivers on the insurance.
When we get the local insurance, if we again list A and B as drivers, does the order matter? Could we get stuck at the border for this reason?

Were they All Terrain tires or more "standard" ones like all-season tires, for example?

From your experience, is it necessary or even essential to book campsites in advance, or do you always manage to find a spot to pitch your tent?
We’ll also have the option to sleep in the car without pitching the tent.
Does that give us the flexibility to stay outside a campsite for a night here and there?

Last year, we had a fantastic road trip in the Anti-Atlas and High Atlas using Erfahren maps, but unfortunately, they don’t cover the area we’re interested in this year.

We’re planning a 13-day family road trip in Morocco this July, with six people in a Toyota Prado 4x4 (renting in Marrakech).
We’ll alternate between bivouacking and small hotels/riads depending on the stops.

We’re planning:

Flexible for the rest (booking the day before or same day)
Sand gear: traction plates, compressor, tow strap, roof rack
Questions:
Is the Zagora → Chegaga → Iriki → Foum Zguid crossing in July doable on our own (single vehicle, no guide)?
Are there any truly technical or risky sections between Chegaga and Iriki?
Does the overall itinerary seem manageable in 13 days without rushing?
Any suggestions for great bivouac spots or particularly interesting stops along this route?
The points on the route are provisional overnight stops. Some spots will include two nights in the same area.
We’re used to off-road driving, but not yet in the Moroccan desert.

Day 1: Sesriem to Mirabib
Day 2: Mirabib to Swakopmund – visit Swakopmund, overnight in Swakopmund
Day 3: Sandwich Harbour – overnight in Swakopmund
Day 4: Kayaking with the seals + the living dunes – overnight in Swakopmund
Day 5: Moon Landscape, Henties Bay + Cape Cross – overnight at White Lady Lodge in Brandberg
Does this itinerary seem realistic to you? Is Cape Cross really worth the trip? If I had to choose between Cape Cross and kayaking with the seals, which would you recommend?

I’d love to visit Gonarezhou National Park—I see there are two sectors: the Mwenezi Region in the south and the area around the Runde River in the north. Should I cover both sectors or just focus on the northern region?

I’m leaving in November for about a month with the goal of reaching Senegal via Mauritania. I’d love to share this trip with someone who wants to discover Mauritania and a bit of Senegal... and also experience life on board a 4x4 in the desert or bush, sometimes sleeping in the vehicle or in hostels/small hotels for comfort. My trip to South Africa is starting to take shape.
However, I'm struggling to figure out the route through Kruger Park. I can't seem to find the information I need about getting around.
Coming from the south, I plan to arrive on Day 1 in the early afternoon at Malelane or Crocodile Bridge.
Do some shopping in Malelane (or Crocodile Bridge main area) and stay overnight outside the park.
Leave on Day 2 at 5 AM for the park. Explore the southern part of the park.
Stay overnight around Skukuza or Lower Sabie. (We don’t want to stay in one of the park’s big camps. We’re looking for a lodge around 200 €.
Head out on Day 3 for a self-drive safari, maybe as far as Orpen.

On Day 5, we’d like to leave to visit Blyde Canyon (on Day 6).

I’m finalizing my trip starting from Namibia.
When I arrive in Divundu, I’d like to head straight to the Khwai area early in the morning to one of the campsites in the Khwai Development Trust. Is the drive doable with a good 4x4 in a day?
We’ll spend 2 nights in Khwai, then 2 or maybe 3 nights in the Moremi area (Third Bridge/Xakanaxa/Mboma) before heading back to Maun to wrap up our journey.
Is that too much time to spend in each place?
We’d also like to do one or two boat excursions in the delta. Any suggestions for the best options and operators?

I’m planning to explore the western part of Madagascar from May 1st to 5th, specifically to visit the Tsingy. I’ve heard different versions about the road conditions and access to the Tsingy during this time, so I’d love to hear from people who’ve actually made this trip during this time of year.
Have you traveled from Morondava → Tsingy between May 1st and 5th?
Was the journey doable and safe?
Did you have access to the Grands Tsingy, or just the Petits Tsingy?
