Tout est en anglais aux USA donc il faudrait de prime abord améliorer votre connaissance de cette langue.

Alors effectivement quel visa prendre, par ou devons nous commencer, nous sommes au début de notre démarche et pour nous l'experience ou le vécu de chacun sera notre meilleur atout.
Le maximum que vous puissiez obtenir c'est un visa B2 pour 6 mois, c'est un visa touristique. Il vous faudra prouver que vous n'avez aucune intention de travailler et surtout que vous avez l'intention de revenir en France apres ce sejour (fiche de paie, titre de proprieté et tous les documents qui peuvent le prouver sont parfaits). Vous ne pourez pas mettre vos enfants dans une ecole avec ce visa.
Au dela de ces 6 mois, vous pouvez demander une extention de 6 autres mois. Ce n'est pas toujours accordé.
comme le dit missaudrey: pas facile de venir une annee sabatique aux US; le probleme du visa sera le point noir de votre 'envie'! il n'existe pas de visa pour passer un an aux US sans 'rien faire'; il vous faudra un visa de tourisme longue duree et le renouveler une fois...la ca sera a vous de prouver au consul (a l'ambassade) que vous venez bien faire du tourisme pendant 6mois (et puis encore 6 mois)! aller sur le site de l'ambassade pour avoir des infos plus precises sur ce visa.
pas facile de trouver un logement sans visa et sans numero de securite sociale;
pas possible de travailler avec le visa B2.
pas possible de prendre une assurance maladie americaine;
pas possible de mettre vos enfants dans une ecole publique;

Ah je suis vraiment décue 🤪 surtout pour ma fille de 11 ans c'est toujours très enrichissant pour un enfant de connaitre d'autres horizons à travers l'enseignement et de nouvelles connaissances, ou alors y à t'il un enseignement privé !!!
j'apporte une précision je ne sais pas si ça peut changer quelque chose au niveau des visas mais mon mari quant à lui sera retraité lorsque nous partirons et moi en congé sabbatique...

Si vous ne désirez pas découvrir une nouvelle culture en faisant une VRAIE immersion (et non pas un voyage touristique), votre projet ne sert strictement à rien...

oui je comprends tout cela parait bizarre mais ne parlant pas couramment anglais, notre anglais comme je l'ai expliqué est plus que basique si il y à une ou des villes ou il existe un secteur ou l'on parle français ça serait bien 😉 c'est pour cette raison que j'e vous pose la question à vous qui connaissez si bien le pays...
nous avions eu la chance auparavant d'être très bien conseillés pour d'autres séjours moins longs que nous avions effectués en Thaîlande et au Vietnam et tout c'était admirablement bien passé 😄.alors là pour les USA nous n'avons pas hésiter à vous poser des questions nous n'avons pas de craintes particulières mais simplement besoin de mettre tout au point par avance afin d'être le plus zen possible sur place avec nos deux filles 3 et 11 ans....
On apprend l'anglais en s'entourant uniquement de gens qui parlent cette langue...pas le contraire.
De toute façon, non, il n'y a pas de "secteurs francophones" aux États-Unis, c'est un pays exclusivement anglophone. L'espagnol est parlé dans les états du sud et la côte ouest.
Si votre anglais est plus que basique, vous aurez beaucoup de mal à vous faire comprendre.
De toute façons, sans visa, il n'est pas possible de s'y installer ni d'envoyer vos enfants à l'école. Vous ne pourrez y séjourner plus de 90 jours, max 6 mois si vous réussirez de convaincre l'ambassade américaine de vous octroyez un visa touristique.

Je ne dis pas qu'il ne tient pas la route, mais je pense que c'est une erreur de chercher d'abord et avant tout de vous retrouver avec des francophones si votre but est l'immersion. Enfin, cela n'engage que moi.
Apprenez l'anglais, du moins les bases, commencez par pratiquer, préparez-vous. Oui, contacter l'ambassade est aussi une bonne idée.

If anyone knows the rates charged by movers for a crate to French Polynesia, or what pitfalls to avoid (I know you can get quotes directly from movers, but I’d love insights from actual customers😉).
