Cette année nous resterons en tout une semaine à Bangkok. Si certains détestent, nous on adore cette ville étonnante. Mais après 3 courts séjours, nous avons vu pas mal de choses (dans les plus connues). Alors cette année, nous aimerions voir le musée des barges royales et faire un tour dans les klongs. En dehors de ça, on cherche des idées sympa... On avait vu un temple kitch au possible dans un reportage sur les klongs, avec un bouddha au sous sol dans lequel il fallait jeter un pièce (dans le nombril!) mais impossible de trouver le nom de ce temple ni son emplacement...

Nous ne sommes pas difficiles, curieux de tout. On se déplace en bus, ou taxi, on marche beaucoup.

Alors, on en vient à notre question de départ, quel est votre endroit préféré à Bangkok? (Endroit précis, quartier...)

Hi everyone, I’m a die-hard fan of India, but it’s time I discovered Thailand too to broaden my Asian horizons. I’m heading there on January 19, 2025, for a 46-day trip (no visa needed as I’m French). I’ve pored over a few guidebooks and travel blogs. Based on what caught my interest, I’ve put together a rough itinerary and list of sights. But since I know absolutely nothing about Thailand, I’m kind of flying blind here. Since I’m not exactly a spring chicken anymore, I’ve opted for a few bases where I’ll stay several days in the same place. That way, I won’t have to change locations and hotels every day or so, packing and unpacking my suitcase constantly. Instead, I plan to explore the surrounding area each day, within a maximum radius of 50 to 70 km. So, first question: Is that kind of round-trip distance manageable in a day in Thailand? In India, renting a car for a day—with a driver—currently costs around 35 to 40 € per day. Knowing that 1,300 to 1,500 THB would be my absolute max, and even then, only if I don’t rent a car every single day. Which brings me to my second question: Am I being unrealistic? Otherwise—third question—once I’m settled in the city I’ve chosen as my base, can I get around within that 50–70 km radius using public transport? I’ve already booked all my hotels—with free cancellation—on booking.com at an average price of 950/1,000 THB per night. Does that put me in a good range for value for money? Or am I dreaming?

Here’s my plan:

BANGKOK (13 days, 14 nights): 1 week for exploring Bangkok – Kanchanaburi/Erawan National Park? – Ayutthaya/Lopburi? – Muang Boran – Samut – Songkram/Amphawa

Bangkok -> Chiang Mai by overnight train in first-class sleeper

CHIANG MAI (6 days/6 nights): Mae Hong Son – Hot springs – Chiang Dao – caves – Lamphun – other places to be decided on the spot based on what’s worth seeing and transport options

Chiang Mai -> Chiang Rai

CHIANG RAI (7 days/8 nights): Fang – Tha Ton – Chiang Saen – Doi Tung – Chiang Khong – Doi Ang Khang, Phu Chi Fah, etc.

Chiang Rai -> Phrae

PHRAE (4 days/5 nights): Lampang and surrounding areas, depending on what’s interesting to see

Phrae -> Loei

LOEI (4 days/5 nights): Phu Kradung – Chiang Khan and surrounding areas, depending on what’s worth seeing

Loei -> Buriram

PHIMAI (Nakhon Ratchasima/Khorat) (5 days/6 nights): Phimai – Prasat Muang Tam – Phanom Rung – Prasat Phanom Wan

Phimai -> Khorat (airport or train station) -> Bangkok (overnight in Bangkok)

Day 46: BANGKOK -> KOCHI

Après maintes recherches sur la toile, je n'ai pas trouvé réponse à ma question alors, j'espère que quelqu'un saura me répondre.

Nous atterrirons un samedi à l'aéroport de HAY YAI à 15h30. Le temps de récupérer les bagages, rejoindre l'hôtel dans le centre HAT YAI, nous ne pourrons faire du change le samedi.

Sachant que nous rejoindrons KO LIPE le lendemain, dimanche, il va nous falloir faire du change dans la matinée sachant que le dernier bateau quitte Pakbara à 11h30 à ce que j'ai pu lire... Quelqu'un saurait-il s'il y a des bureaux de change privés ouverts à HAT YAI le dimanche matin tôt ou bien s'il y a des bureaux de change à PAKBARA (certainement défavorables 😕 ) ?

Peut être que la mielleure des solutions serait de quitter l'aéroport directement pour Pakbara ce qui nous laisserait largement le temps de faire du change en attendant le bateau ...

Hi, I’m really interested in the "SUPREME bus" and especially the "Wiang Ping Super VIP Class Bus" with Sombat Tour for traveling from Bangkok to Chiang Mai. But you can only book through their website, and it’s entirely in Thai. No agency allows booking for these buses from this company either. I haven’t found any way to make a reservation for either of these two buses... Has anyone traveled from Bangkok to Chiang Mai on one of these buses? Thanks so much

Si c'est toujours possible a VICTORY MONUMENT ou MOCHIT. J'ai trouvé pour SAI TAI MAI, mais cela ne m'arrange pas, galère pour aller a DON MUENG AIRPORT.

Je crois que c'est fini a VICTORY MONUMENT.

Il n'y a plus d'agence sur PRATCHUAP elles sont toutes au bord de la 2 voies.

Dans certains livres je lis qu'il n'y a que le terminal sud Sai Tai Mai Et parfois d'aurezq infos avec celui de Mochit également. -Le minivan? Victory Monument étant off, existent-elles de nouvelles stations dédiées ou faut-il se pointer dans l'une des gares de bus ci-dessus? Des départs from KSR aussi, je suppose?

En terme de temps de trajet global (je précise, un dimanche) depuis Sathorn, quelle est, selon vous, l'option la plus rapide, même si je n'imagine pas de grandes différences, vue la distance? (c'est bien connu, héhé)

Where can we find accommodation close to a pretty beach that's not too touristy but not isolated either, near a small town or village? We've already been to Surin Beach on Phuket Island. Par conséquent, je cherche un hotel pas trop cher (environ 25 voir 30 euros la nuit). Sur booking les prix sont très élevés, à votre avis je réserve quand même ou je vois sur place?

Je serais en fin de séjour sur Bangkok pour 2 nuits.

Dans l'idéal, j'aimerais trouver un hotel entre L'aeroport inernational et MBK.

Je pourrais du coup visiter bangkok une journée, même si déjà fait il y a 10 ans 😛

Mais la proximité du MBK me permettrais à ma famille et moi même de découvrir le Muay tai car apparemment chaque mercredi des combats ont lieu sur ce site.

De ce fait, nous irions ensuite nous coucher à l'hotel pour le lendemain matin tôt aller prendre notre vol international.

Il faut donc que l'hotel soit sur l'axe et près d'une station des transports pour l'aéroport.

dernière petite question : Quel est le plus simple en ce qui concerne les transports pour rejoindre l'aéroport?

Maintenant que mes hôtels sont réservés, je suis dans le doute de notre transfert de Koh samui à Koh Phangan ! En effet, notre avion arrive à Samui à 16h40 et j'ai vu que le dernier bateau pour Phangan était 17h30 par la compagnie Lomprayah. J'ai peur que le temps de récupérer les bagages et d'aller à l'embarquement ( je ne sais comment) pour prendre le bateau, on soit court en temps ! Qu'en pensez vous ? et y a il une autre compagnie pour nous emmener à Phangan ?

I have a question about the Rome2Rio app. Can you set it up to show routes using the BTS and MRT (for Bangkok) instead of buses or taxis? For example, I’d like to know how long the trip from Chong Nonsi to Bang Khun Non will take, but the app doesn’t suggest the MRT or BTS, even though it’s totally doable. Any tips on how to fix this?

Hello, For my partner’s birthday during our trip to Thailand, I’d love to take her on a "spa" day to beautiful waterfalls and/or hot springs (and maybe find a nice hotel nearby, plus a lovely night and a massage to complete the experience!). We’ll be there between January 29 and February 11, 2026, which is the dry season in many regions... Bummer if we arrive and only find a trickle of water for the surprise! We won’t be heading north—we’re doing Bangkok, then Krabi, and an island in the south. I’d spotted the hot springs near Krabi, like Namtok Ron Khlong Thom (and maybe the Emerald Pool), but what will the water levels be like there at that time of year? I’d also considered Erawan Falls, even if it means leaving Bangkok for a day/night, but same question about the water flow...

Has anyone here been to these places or have any feedback? Or another spot like this that fits within our planned route? Thanks in advance, and have a great day everyone!

So excited to be back on this forum of fellow travel enthusiasts to ask for advice about my upcoming two-week trip to Thailand in March 2026.

Given that it’ll be the start of the intense heat and burning season, I’m wondering about my itinerary, which would focus on the central/southern part of the country.

Ideally, I’d like a mix of relaxation in a nice setting, culture (temples or old palaces), and I’m keeping six days in Bangkok, which I love :)

I’m planning to get around by train, car (through an agency), or plane if it’s easier.

Option 1: HUA HIN – 3/4 days (day trips to PHETCHABURI + SAM ROI YOT + ARTISAN MARKETS) KANCHANABURI – 3/4 days NAKHON PATHOM – 1 day BANGKOK – 6 days

My doubts: -Will the sky be too hazy (from smoke) for good photos? -Will Kanchanaburi and its surroundings be less enchanting during this period (dry landscapes)?

Option 2: PHUKET (4 days): exploring the island + PHANG NGA Bay HUA HIN (3/4 days) BANGKOK (7 days)

My doubts: -How do I get from Phuket to Hua Hin? It seems like flying isn’t an option, and I’d have to take a long trip up the southern coast or return to Bangkok to catch the train. -Is Phuket even remotely pleasant during this ultra-touristy period? -Is Karon a good base for exploring Phuket?

Option 3: PHUKET KAO SOK SURAT THANI? BANGKOK

My doubts: -I’d like to add a destination with beautiful temples in this area, but maybe Surat Thani isn’t the best idea.

Option 4: SURAT THANI >> HUA HIN (6/7 days) BANGKOK

Doubts: -I’m worried this route might be too tiring if I have to move every two days.

I’m open to any tips—or even a completely different itinerary if you have other ideas.

My husband and I are heading to Thailand with our two boys on July 8th. We’ll be moving around: Bangkok (3 nights), Ayutthaya (1 night), Chiang Mai (4 nights), Koh Samui (4 nights), and Koh Phangan (3 nights). We have a flight from Koh Samui to Bangkok in the afternoon the day before our return to France, arriving around 5 PM in Bangkok (it’ll be a Friday). I’m still wondering where to stay in Bangkok for this last night in Thailand. Initially, I thought about booking a hotel near the international airport, but I figured there might not be much to do there... maybe we’ll want one last crowd-filled night at a food market? So, I considered booking a hotel near the metro instead, for easy access to the airport the next morning, while still being central enough to go out for our last evening before heading back to France.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on this :-) And if you lean toward the second option, which neighborhood/hotel would you recommend?

- Can you choose the denominations at exchange bureaus/ATMs? How do you avoid ending up with only 1000-baht notes when exchanging large sums? - If not, is there an easy way to get change? Any alternatives to buying stuff at 7-Eleven? - Can you buy train tickets from Thonburi to Kanchanaburi in advance? Is there usually space available, considering some people do the Death Railway day trip from Bangkok to Sai Yok Noi? - Is there room for luggage on the trains to Kanchanaburi? We’ll be traveling as a group of four with two large checked-baggage-sized suitcases (25 kg each). - Kanchanaburi: Most day tours allow around 3 hours at Erawan Falls. Is that enough, or is it worth spending the whole day there, especially at the start of the rainy season when it’s a bit greener? - In Sam Roi Yot, are there taxis/Grab/Bolt available for exploring the surrounding areas? I’d appreciate any numbers or addresses. - Does True (7-Eleven) have good coverage across Thailand, from Sam Roi Yot to Chiang Rai, or should we go with AIS? - In Bangkok, if you need to switch BTS lines, do you need a new ticket, or can you change lines as long as you don’t exit the station?
