J'envisage de faire un sejour aux Fidji en aout prochain.
1 er probleme, nous n'avons que 10 jours...
Et dans ces 10 petits jours on aimerait caser un peu de culture et un peu de plongee pour mon mari.
J'ai pense (en arrivant a Nadi), a 3 jours pleins sur Ovalau ou nous pensions que la plongee etait possible, malheureusement ca ne l'est plus, puis 3 jours a Nanuya island pour les mantas.
Pour articuler ca, il nous faut 4 jours rien que pour les transferts...
De plus pour remplacer la plongee du cote d'Ovalau, la guest de Levuka nous propose Leleuvia island au nord de Kadavu ! Ce qui rajoute encore pas mal de transfert...
Bref je patauge.
Quelqu'un pourrait-il m'indiquer un itineraire plus sense, en concervant Ovalau ou nous voulons vraiment aller ? Et qui offrirait de belles plongees a mon mari sur 3 jours ?

Je veux suivre la conversation car j'y fais en février. Je ne resterai que 6 à 8 jours, mais je ne fais pas de plongée. Je n'ai aucune idée de mon trajet... seulement que j'arrive et part de Nadi.

N'ayant pas recu de reponses autre que la tienne, je me suis plongee dans des recherches approfondies sur le net et a la bibliotheque.
En synthese voila ce que j'ai retenu.
Pour les paysages d'iles de reve, les iles Mamanuca, facilement accessibles depuis Nadi (mais aussi envahies par les touristes et beaucoup de jeunes fetards) et les iles Yasawas plus au nord, volcaniques, magnifiques et plus sauvages sont un must.
Pour la plongee, Naviti island et Nanuya balavu island dans les Yasawas (pour les mantas de mai a septembre) ainsi que Taveuni au nord-est des Fidji et Leleulai au sud de Viti Levu sortent franchement du lot apparemment.
Les Yasawas sont extremement bien desservies par ferry depuis Nadi en 1 demie journee de bateau en moyenne.
Taveuni par contre, c'est beaucoup plus loin mais s'accede facilement en avion depuis Nadi ou Suva sur Viti Levu.
L'ile d'Ovalau a cote de l'ile de Viti Levu (cote est), avec entre autre sa capitale Levuka, seul site classe unesco des Fidji semblent incontournable pour la culture fidjienne, le cote relax et un peu hors du temps de l'ile. Je ne compte plus le nombre de carnet de voyage ou j'ai lu que ca avait ete l'endroit prefere des voyageurs aux Fidji.
Enfin pour le cote Robinson, et nature quasi a l'etat brute, la c'est Kadavu et ses iles satellites, tout au sud des Fidji.
Pour nous ce sera finalement un mix des Yasawas pour la beaute de l'ile et les mantas a Nanuya Balavu au Manta resort (63 euros par nuit pour 2) pour 5 jours et 3 jours a Ovalau au Levuka homestay a Levuka la capitale de l'ile, qui fait un carton sur le web...Jamais vu autant d'avis elogieux piur un hotel.
Pour se rendre de Nadi a Suva, il y a l'avion dans les 90 dollars fidjiens ou le bus qui nous conviendra mieux.
En gros, bus public de Nadi jusqu' a Suva, 4 h de route puis prise en charge par la compagnie Patterson, seule a assurer le transfert depuis Viti Levu avec 4 h 30 de bus et de Ferry jusqu'a Levuka pour 30 dollars fidjiens.
Seul hic le retour a Suva depuis Levuka demarre a 4h30 du matin...
Voila on j'en suis !
Voila, on a deja reserve ces hotels plus le bamboo beach a Nadi et du mons dans les iles, beaucoup d'endroits sont deja complets pour aout prochain.

Je pense rester à Nadi 2 nuits, puis arrêter à Sigatoka (recommandé par le petit futé).
Ensuite j'aimerais peut-être aller à Caqalai 2 nuits, toute petite île - 75FD la bure repas inclus, 40FD pour le bateau.
Et passer à Levuka 1 nuit, probablement au Royal car étant seule le Homestay est un peu hors de prix.
Faut que je vérifie les horaires pour le trajet... pour pouvoir choisir la date pour mon billet de retour!
Si le retour est à 4h du matin et te pose problème, regarde pour passer un petit tour à Caqalaui qui offre le trajet depuis Levuka.
C'est sympa d'echanger nos tuyaux, on va y arriver !
Nous avons nous aussi de notre cote arrete un iitineraire...
1 nuit a Nadi au bamboo beach a l'arrivee (facile d'y reserver sur internet sur Agoda et booking.com). Une petite bure basique avec salle de bain partagee pour 27 euros), ils ont aussi des dortoirs a prix vraiment cool.
Les plus : super bien note sur Tripadvisor, a 10 mns de l'aeroport, desservi en bus direct depuis l'aeroport pour 5 dollars fidjiens et au bord de la plage.
Ensuite, jour 2, depart a 8 h 30 avec la compagnie de ferry qui semble avoir le monopole (ceux du bula pass et compagnie...). Arrivee a Nanuya Balavu a cote de Nativi dans les Yasawas vers 13h.
250 euros la traversee a 2 A/R, ca fait mal mais pas le choix, mon mari tient absolument a voir des nantas (il est instructeur de plongee).
Entre parenthese nous avons compare les prix en direct ou avec les pass hebergement + transferts de cette compagnie, cela revient de 50 a 100 euros plus cher avec cette compagnie ! Nous nous en tiendrons donc au transport uniquement qui est deja...consequent.
Mantaray resort pour 4 nuits (63 euros pour 2 par nuit), ils ont aussi des dortoirs dans les 25 euros par nuit.
Jour 6, retour a Nadi en ferry, arrivee a 15 h 45 et nuit au bamboo beach again.
Maintenant c'est a partir de la que nos itineraires se rejoignent....
Jour 7 : avion pour Suva a 6 h 30, arrivee 7 h.
2 eme vol a 8 h 30 depuis Suva pour Levuka, arrivee a 8 h 42, prix total 80 euros pour 2.
Compagnie : Fiji link ( qui fait partie de Fiji airways).
Les plus : le gros gain de temps par rapport a la journee entiere de transport de bus et ferry avec Patterson Bros.
Le vol de 12 minutes tres scenique entre Suva et Levuka et le prix plutot raisonnable.
Avec bus et ferry, de Nadi a Levuka c'est 25 euros pour 2 avec 4 h de bus de Nadi a Suva puis depart a 13 h pour Levuka avec Patterson.
Une fois a Levuka, on aimerait nous aussi rester au Royal hotel pour 3 nuits, mais impossible de les joindre. Leur site parait defaillant. Aurais tu un moyen ?
Caqalai est minuscule, on en fait le tour a pieds en 15 mns, on a donc decide d'y aller pour une journee seulement.
De petits bateaux assurent le day tour depuis tous les hotels de Levuka, y compris le Royal.
Ovalau nous semble meriter plus d'1 jour.
On fera donc 1 journee visite de la ville + 1 journee Lovoni au centre de l'ile pour les beautes naturelles et le cote contact avec les fijiens "authentiques". Il y a un gars qui y assurent des visites encensees de partout, une sorte d'ethnologue passionne local. Son nom est Epis ( possible de reserver ses ballades au Royal hotel).
Ensuite, je saisi pas bien au sujet des 4 h du matin.
Le Patterson package demarre a 4 h 30 depuis Levuka, pas de Caqalai !
Veux tu dire qu'il y a un depart plus tard de Caqalai pour Suva ?

Ce que je voulais dire, c'est que tu pourrais peut-être faire Levuka-Caqalai-Viti Levu si vraiment tu ne veux pas repartir à 4h. Le logement de Caqalai offre le transport. Je trouve qqch de spécial dans cette île justement parce qu'on en fait le tour rapidement. Mais je n'ai pas arrêté mon choix à 100%.
Je pense laisser tomber les Yasawas justement à cause du prix pour s'y rendre. Exagéré par rapport au niveau de vie là-bas. De toute façon je n'ai pas beaucoup de temps.
J'ai commandé le Lonely Planet (en anglais) que je lirai probablement dans l'avion (je me rends en Australie avant). D'un côté j'ai envie de planifier, d'un autre, non. Mais je continuerai la discussion si je lis d'autres choses intéressantes!
Es-tu sure que le logement de Caqalai offre le transport pour Viti Levu ?
C'est pas plutot retour a Ovalau ?
Autres petites infos que l'on vient d'avoir de l'office du tourisme de Fidji par mail, ca peut peut-etre te servir:
- Les transports avion + package Patterson ne fonctionnent pas entre Viti Levu et Ovalau le dimanche et les bus publics sont reduits.
- L'acces a Caqalai par bateau est dependant du temps. Quand la mer est trop agitee, pas de liaison). Il faut donc rester flexible pour cette ile et prevoir 1 decallage de dates au dernier moment.
- Enfin, un day tour depuis Ovalau sur Caqalai coute 100 dollars fidjiens, soit 42 euros.
Nous aurions nous aussi voulu rester au moins 1 nuit a Caqalai mais il ne nous resterait alors que trop peu de temps pour Ovalau et ses rencontres avec ses habitants que l'on dit extraordinaires.

Le prix de leur chambre pour 1 ou 2 personnes (colonial room) dans le batiment principal est de 53 dollars, le cottage independant plus confort est a 90 dollars.

J'ai lu sur au moins deux sites que le logement sur Caqalai offre le trajet pour l'île principale ou pour Levuka (30 ou 40$). Je ne sais pas si c'est toujours le cas, mais je crois bien.
J'ai lu le cas de qqun qui est resté sur Caqalai à cause d'un cyclone, du coup j'y repense... Je repars de Sydney pour Montréal, je ne veux pas râter l'avion!

Je ferai également un compte rendu. Je prie pour ne pas avoir une semaine de mauvais temps.
Je penche pour le Blue Lagoon Resort dans les Yasawa.... Il a des supers commentaires, même sur la bouffe. Le tout sera de voir si la météo permet 4 h de ferry, et si ça vaut la peine selon la météo.
Pour Nadi je n'ai toujours pas fixé mon choix d'hébergement.
Même si le parcours n'était pas identique au votre, vous pourrez peut être trouver quelques informations qui pourront vous aider sur la page dédiée à ce pays sur mon site iciouailleurs.fr J'y étais pour environ une semaine en août 2014.
Si vous pouvez, profitez des coins "perdus" et de l'aimabilité des fidjiens. Vous aurez droit à des "bula" (prononcer boula) en permanence.

Je vous conseille de visiter la ville portuaire de Levuka située à l’est d’Ovalau. Cette ville est actuellement très bondée et animée grâce à ses activités touristiques. La ville possède la plus belle plage au Fidji. Par ailleurs, à l’y arrivée, vous pouvez admirer l’ancienneté des bâtiments construits depuis les années de 1880 comme : Musée de Fidji, bibliothèque publique, stade, ….

pour info les yasawa ca se fait pas en "ferry" mais avec le yasawa flyer ou en hydravion (tres cher et bagage limité mais sympa)

le blue lagoon est top je confirme (la plage est vraiment superbe avec eau turquoise et beau club de plongée) et bouffe gastronomique
a noter qu'il y a pour tous budgets et qu'il y a un pass pour faire toutes les iles (bien qu'on perde pas mal de temps en transferts
quand la mer secoue le yasawa flyer secoue, c'est en pleine mer) aussi et j'ai vu des gens verts malades de mer
si tres sujet au mal de mer pour ne pas vivre un enfer ou voyage de noce, hydravion peut se justifer . l'hydravion (cessna caravan hydravion) atterit juste devant le resort
pour taveuni c'est soit l'avion (petit avion DH bimoteur twin otter 10 places) ou le bateau de suva (on arrive le lendemain matin) et en sus compter le bus nadi-suva
Allez aux fiji , les gens sont admirablement gentils, ca change de la France a l'acceuil hotellier merdique et de la Nouvelle-Caledonie !

The plan is to leave from Paris or Brussels and break up the trip with a 3- or 4-day layover to "split" the journey in two.
Then head back to Sydney, explore the East Coast in a van, celebrate Christmas and New Year’s in Sydney, and finally return to France with another layover.

I'd love to meet whales (what's the best season?), stay with locals or in budget guesthouses (I'm pretty low-key, no worries about comfort), and most importantly, be as close to the coral reefs as possible (all day long...).

I’m reaching out because I’m finally living my dream later this year, and I could really use your advice!
On December 26th, I’m flying to Tahiti, then Moorea, and finally Bora-Bora.
Since I’ll be staying in Bora-Bora for several days, I’d love to take a day trip to another island: either Maupiti or Tahaa-Raiatea (my top picks...).
My issue is that the schedules for getting to Tahaa and then to Raiatea don’t quite work for me. Here are the two options I’ve looked into:
**Option 1: Day trip to Tahaa-Raiatea**
- Morning departure at 7:00 AM to Tahaa from Vaitape (I’ll be staying on a motu, so I need to check if there’s a shuttle connecting the motu to Vaitape early enough).
- Arrival at 8:15 AM in Poutoru, Tahaa. Tour of the island, visit to a vanilla plantation.
- Hire a "private" boat to Raiatea around 12:00–1:00 PM.
- Tour of Raiatea.
- Departure at 4:00 PM from Uturoa (Raiatea) back to Bora-Bora.
**Option 2: Day trip to Maupiti**
- Morning departure from Bora-Bora at 8:30 AM.
- Arrival in Maupiti at 10:05 AM. Visit the island and the motus.
- Return in the evening at 4:00 PM.
My questions:
- Will I have enough time to explore Tahaa-Raiatea from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM?
- Car rental? Bike rental? For all three islands...
- Time lost during rentals?
- Distance between rental shops and the ports where I arrive?
- For Tahaa and Raiatea, should I hire a guide? Would that be better organized, meaning no car rental needed, to save time or explore the island on my own?
- Finally, what do you think of these three islands and their points of interest? Which would you choose between Maupiti and Tahaa-Raiatea?

Hello! We’re heading to the Marquesas in July-August and I’d love to know if it’s possible, for a fee, to do a leg of the journey on the Aranui—like from Hiva Oa to Fatu Hiva, or Nuku Hiva to Ua Pou, or even Ua Pou to Ua Huka? Sure, there are shuttles twice a week with Codim connecting these islands, but the schedules won’t be known until two months in advance, and I need to book flights and hotels much earlier than that. So, what’s the best way to handle this?

I’ve blocked out 3 weeks at the end of March/beginning of April, arriving in Sydney and departing from Adelaide while following the coast.
Kangaroo Island is a bit of a question mark for me. If I go, I can dedicate 2.5 days to it. Is it worth the time and the cost? I’ve read plenty of travel journals highlighting the landscapes and wildlife, but I’m sure I’ll see plenty of that along my route anyway. I’m not factoring in the financial side (which isn’t negligible for KI), but I’d rather not be disappointed. What are the real added values of KI, especially since the island has been affected by fires? I’ve also come across people online calling it a tourist trap. For example, I ruled out Phillip Island because it felt too organized and structured. Sorry if I’m opening Pandora’s box here!

I usually rent a two-wheeler to keep some independence.
On several forums, people advised against it—first because it’s not really the local culture, and also because of the road conditions and local driving habits.
But I’m a bit wary of English-language forums where the typical vacation is just airport-resort-airport with a taxi in between.
Can you confirm if it’s really that risky compared to, say, Southeast Asia? What are the alternatives? Buses, taxis?

I’m planning and budgeting a trip to Australia for August 2026, lasting 40 days.

My main issue is transport to cover all of this.
The first leg is already tricky—I haven’t found a way to rent a car in Port Macquarie and drop it off in South West Rock.
And if we keep the vehicle until Cleveland (8 days) before taking the ferry to Stradbroke Island, it’s already around 1000 €.
- Are there any systems where we could buy a vehicle in Port Macquarie and be sure it’s bought back at the end of the trip in Cairns?
- Do you know of any Australian online car rental sites?
As for trains, they’re not really an option for our stay in New South Wales.
In Queensland, I found the Queensland Rail Travel website with a Brisbane–Cairns line, but trains don’t run every day.
- Do you know of any other train companies in Queensland that connect coastal cities from Brisbane to Cairns?
For flights, I checked Queensland with Qantas, and most routes require a stopover in Brisbane, which wastes a lot of time, and the prices are still high.

2025 is shaping up to be amazing, as I’m lucky enough to be planning a 6-week trip to Polynesia.
I wanted to buy the *Guide du Routard* (my favorite), but I discovered there isn’t one for this destination. And the *Lonely Planet* is from 2022, which I feel is already a bit outdated.
So I’m looking for other resources: in your opinion, what’s the best paper guide, and most importantly, what online resources have you used to prepare a trip to Polynesia?
My wife, our 3-year-old son, and I are planning a trip along Australia’s East Coast, leaving in early October and returning in mid-November. The plan is to do a 4-week road trip in a campervan, then settle down for about ten days.
The question I’m asking myself is: which way should we go? From Sydney to Cairns or the other way around? Despite all the documentation I’ve read, I’m still struggling to decide the best direction based on the climate at that time and swimming conditions.
Up north, the weather will be warmer, and the water too, unlike the south. However, in the north, there are swimming restrictions, especially because of jellyfish, whereas in the south, there seems to be less danger (apart from sharks, maybe). Are there many protected beaches in the north where we can swim safely?
Also, I should consider that in the south, the Great Barrier Reef no longer protects the beaches, so I imagine there are fewer calm spots for swimming?

I’m leaving on March 4th for Australia from Réunion Island, landing in Perth, then a road trip down to Melbourne before flying out to Vietnam on April 15th.
I’d like to visit Perth and the surrounding area, then head southwest to Margaret River, Albany, Esperance, and back to Perth to catch a flight to Adelaide. From there, I’ll make my way to Melbourne.
1/ What do you think of this itinerary?
2/ For flights, are there any domestic airlines worth prioritizing for good prices?
3/ I’m planning to rent a car after exploring Perth and the area—I’m traveling solo. Any rental companies you’d recommend, as well as nice hotels, B&Bs, or hostels?

I’m planning a solo trip from April 16th to June 2nd!
I have to work for 3 weeks in Papeete when I arrive in French Polynesia, so I can only explore on the weekends (3-day weekends). For my first weekend, I’ll visit Tahiti; my second weekend will be dedicated to Moorea, and the last weekend to Huahine.
After my work period, I’ll continue with my vacation and keep exploring:
Maupiti - 4 nights
Raiatea - 3 nights (including a day trip to Tahaa)
Bora Bora - 3 nights
Rangiroa - 4 nights (could do 3)
Tikehau - 2 nights (could do 3)
Fakarava - 3 nights
For activities, I’m mostly interested in discovering the islands, hiking, and observing wildlife.
I’m not a diver, but I plan to do a beginner’s dive once I’m there. I love snorkeling, though, and I’m wondering if I’m spending too much time in the Tuamotus, which are famous for diving from what I’ve seen.
For travel between the islands, I’ve already looked into the Bora Tuamotu Max pass, which seems like the best option, but I’d love advice on replacing it with one or more ferries.
What do you think? I’m struggling to finalize my itinerary.

Are the prices for accommodation, even basic ones, justified? Isn’t a room in a family-run guesthouse at 150/200 € a bit much?
Are there other islands in Polynesia (non-French) that are just as "paradise-like" but more affordable?
