J'ai eu l'occasion de voyager quelques fois aux États-Unis et même d'y étudier une année. Après plusieurs années sans y être retourné, l'occasion s'est enfin présentée il y a quelques semaines pour repartir avec un groupe à New York ! Je devrais y aller du 30 octobre au 5 novembre 2017.
Sauf qu'il y a un problème selon mon agence de voyage : mon passeport périme dans moins de 6 mois (le 30 janvier 2018) et selon elle, ni les autorités françaises, ni les autorités américaines n'accepteront de me laisser soit monter dans l'avion, soit entrer sur le territoire américain. Ainsi, elle refuse d'acheter mon billet avec mon groupe. Elle me garantie que seul Israël accepte les passeports de moins de six mois et que tous les autres pays refuseront (dont les États-Unis) de me laisser passer.
Aucune mairie n'a de rendez-vous plus tôt que le 9 octobre et on me dit qu'il faudra attendre trois semaines supplémentaires avant de pouvoir récupérer le précieux sésame, ce qui risque de faire trop court pour le recevoir à temps ! Et concernant le cas où mon visa est toujours valide (jusqu'en août 2020), la transposition du visa sur le nouveau passeport ralentira encore plus les délais d'impression.
J'ai contacté la police aux frontières françaises qui m'a certifié qu'ils me laisseront passer tant que mon passeport est valide. Du côté des États-Unis, trois sites vont dans le sens d'une autorisation d'entrer sur le territoire avec un passeport français bientôt expiré :

Les services français restent plus prudents en disant qu'il est "conseillé" d'avoir un passeport valide plus de six mois avant son départ : lc.cx/p3UT
Je ne sais plus quoi penser et il semblerait qu'il n'y ait aucun moyen d'avoir un nouveau passeport à temps. Je pensais pouvoir jouer sur le visa étudiant mais étant donné que je n'étudie plus aux États-Unis, cela risque de ne pas marcher. J'ai besoin de vos conseils pour savoir comment procéder et savoir si mes vacances aux États-Unis seront compromises ou pas.
La France (comme la Belgique) appartient au "six-month club" et tu peux accéder au sol US jusqu'au dernier jour de validité de ton passeport
Va voir sur le site US Custom pour confirmer .... mais je n'ai aucun doute à ce sujet
D'ailleurs mon autorisation ESTA liée à mon ancien passeport (changé début 2017) courrait bien effectivement jusqu'au dernier jour de validité de ce passeport ... et pas 6 mois avant sa fin

Mais mon agence de voyage refuse toujours catégoriquement de me laisser partir sans prétexte qu'un de leurs anciens groupes avaient quelqu'un dans la même situation que moi et qu'il a eu des problèmes avec la police aux frontières américaines. C'est triste à dire mais je crois que je vais devoir voyager indépendamment pour m'y rendre.

En mai 17 j'ai fait une croisière en Alaska canadien au départ de Seattle, retour Seattle.
La compagnie de croisière PRINCESS CRUISE (compagnie américaine) a EXIGE que la validité de mon passeport dépasse les 6 mois, à défaut, pas question d'embarquer à Seattle (assez idiot en soi parce que si j'y étais bien arrivé à Seattle, c'est qu'il était bon mon passeport ...).
Malgré mes arguments et mes dénégations, j'ai bien du m'exécuter (pour ne pas rester sur le quai) et j'ai renouvelé ce p%:.%¨ de passeport.
Peut être les compagnies de croisières avec escales dans différents pays ont elles des obligations spécifiques imposées par les US Customs ???
Mais pour ce qui te concerne (vols depuis la France vers les USA), il n'y a aucune raison objective, selon moi, de le renouveler

Nous sommes allés aux USA en juillet de cette année. Ma fille a voyagé avec un passeport expirant début novembre soit un peu plus de 3 mois après notre retour.

Attention quand même à la validité de votre visa. Si c'est un visa étudiant (J1) il expire 30 jours après l'arrêt du programme qui vous a permis de l'obtenir (et ça indépendamment de la durée de validité accordée).
Assurez vous donc qu'il est toujours actif sinon il faudra faire une demande d' ESTA en ligne. Car si le visa n'est plus valide et que vous n'avez pas d'ESTA, vous ne pourrez pas monter dans l'avion même si votre passeport est valide plus de 6 mois après le voyage.😕
Si c'est un visa type B1/B2 alors ça ne devrait pas poser de soucis et dans ce cas pas besoin d'ESTA😊 Oubliez mon intervention.
Petite précision : si votre visa est effectivement valable jusqu'en 2020, vous n'aurez pas besoin de le faire "remettre" sur un nouveau passeport. Il faudra simplement de voyager avec les 2 passeports (l'ancien avec le visa) et le nouveau et montrer les 2 à l'immigration.

Pourquoi ne pas leur faire une attestation comme quoi si vous êtes refusé à la frontière, vous ne vous retournerez pas contre eux pour être remboursé en complément d'une impression de l'article ci-dessus qu'à mis Micy?
Pour information, si votre employeur accepte de vous faire une attestation d'un voyage pro aux US, vous pouvez avoir un passeport en moins de 1 semaine ( sans aucun autre justificatif que la lettre).
De plus, pour votre visa, il suffit de garder votre ancien passeport avec le nouveau.
Concernant l'agence, si jamais ils refusent toujours, l'idée de Jpg13 n'est pas bête. Regardez où dorment vos amis à NYC et les horaires de vols. Je suis certains qu'on pourra vous aider par la suite.

J'étais dans une situation presque identique avec AVE pour Canada encore valable 3 mois sur mon passeport a renouveler lors de la demande je l'ai gardé jusqu'à le délivrance du nouveau, mais la c'est moins pénalisant qu'un VISA puisque 1h après je redemandais un nouvel AVE pour le Canada

Effectivement, cet employé de mairie ne connait probablement pas la réglementation en vigueur.
Dans mon cas perso traité par le consulat de France à Boston j'ai eu cette expérience 2 fois:
1er cas, Renouvellement de passeport avec visa en cours. Pas de soucis pour conserver l'ancien. L'agent a coupé un bord de la page de couverture du passeport avec le visa en cours et j'ai reçu le nouveau quelques semaines plus tard. Inconvenient : vous devrez voyager avec les 2 passeports et présenter les 2 à l'immigration. Certains officiers d'immigration aux US ont l'habitude d'autres non. En général en expliquant la situation ça passe.... Si on vous fait un problème, demandez très gentiment et avec le sourire à parler au Supervisor.
Pleins de gens que je connais ont également utilisé les 2 passeports et personne n'a eu de soucis.
2eme cas, Passeport d'un de mes enfants à renouveler. Visa expiré et carte verte obtenue entre temps. Il tenait à conserver son ancien passeport à cause d'un tampon qui avait une valeur sentimentale pour lui😇. Refus catégorique de l'agent consulaire avec l'explication que vu que le visa était expiré, il devait rendre son passeport😕.
Il faudrait arriver à trouver un texte officiel pour l'agent de votre mairie, sinon comme dit plus haut essayez ailleurs😊.

Les employés de mairie, charmants au demeurant, ajoutent souvent des contraintes qui n'en sont pas. J'ai toujours été étonné par cette attitude.
Bref, j'ai toujours gardé mes anciens passeports:
- au moment ou l'on demande un nouveau passeport, personne ne peut vous empècher de voyager avec l'ancien qui est souvent toujours valide. Donc on ne peut pas vous priver de ce passeport pendant parfois presqu'un mois au motif de faire le nouveau.
- lorsque vous venez chercher le nouveau, soit on ne vous demande rien (80% des cas) soit on vous demande l'ancien, et vous précisez que vous souhaitez le garder. Un des coins est coupé.
- s'il y a un visa encore valable sur l'ancien passeport, là vous le gardez de manière automatique. Les visas ne se transfèrent pas sur le nouveau...Ils sont délivrés par l'Ambassade du pays en question, numérotés, et collés sur les pages....
- enfin, on peut demander un SECOND passeport, le premier étant toujours valide, pour différentes raisons. Seule la préfecture est juge et surtout pas l'employé(e) de mairie. Principaux cas: voyages fréquents dans des pays demandant des visas (et donc pas de temps suffisant entre deux voyages pour demander le visa correspondant); pays "incompatibles", raisons professionnelles.

Par contre il n'est plus possible de garder son ancien passeport sans une raison ... avant on restituait le passeport avec mention passeport annulé mais ça c'était avant ... au siècle dernier avec le progrès ...

I’m planning a trip from France to Alberta/British Columbia, and I’m unsure about which bank card to use for the security deposit with the rental company (I’m thinking of going with AVIS).
I contacted Avis Canada, and they told me a credit card is absolutely required. I asked my bank for a credit card (a *real* credit card), but they only offered me a deferred debit card.
My question: For a rental with Avis Canada, is a Gold International Mastercard deferred debit card usable for the security deposit needed to finalize the rental? Is the "CREDIT" label enough? (Some cards say "CREDIT" and others say "CARTE DE CREDIT"—seems minor, but it’s actually a big deal in how the card works.)
I’ve seen conflicting info everywhere I look... My bank says it’s *usually* okay (the deferred debit card), while Avis Canada insists it *must* be a credit card, not debit—even when I mention the deferred debit card.
I know the whole credit card concept is already confusing, and on top of that, some sites say a deferred debit card counts as a credit card, while others say it doesn’t.

I’ll explain my situation.
Unfortunately, I lost my passport, and I only realized it two weeks before my departure for a humanitarian mission in Libya. I’m a nurse, and this mission really means a lot to me.
First, I applied for an emergency passport, but it was denied by the Val-d'Oise prefecture on the grounds that a planned humanitarian mission wasn’t considered an urgent reason.
So, I submitted a biometric passport application on July 20th. Since then, the tracking has been stuck, and the town hall can’t (or won’t) give me any clear information. Every time I call, I get a different story. The last update I received was that the passport had been produced since July 23rd with a status of "about to be shipped," but nothing since then.
I’ve managed to push my departure back to next Tuesday at the latest, but I’m starting to really panic.
Have any of you submitted an application around July 20th, especially in Val-d'Oise (95)? How long did you wait between the passport being produced and it being available at the town hall? Is it normal for this step to take this long?
This mission means so much to me. I had everything organized, and I’m also supposed to attend a friend’s wedding right after near the border.

I’m a bit embarrassed because I need to travel to Quebec from February 27th to March 13th. I’m a regular visitor to Canada—this will be my 10th trip since 1997, plus a year as a permanent resident (2000–2001) and a cross-country run from Vancouver to Halifax in 2011. So, I’m definitely not a terrorist!
But since our last trip in July 2015, they’ve introduced this eTA thing. Seems more like a way to make money than to actually secure Canada, if you ask me, but anyway, that’s not the point.
I applied for an eTA for myself, my wife, and our two kids. They all got approved within hours, but not me! I was asked to create a GC key and then an IRCC account, which I did. Normally, you get news within 72 hours, but since Monday, January 15th, nothing!
In the "message" section of the account, it says "explanation letter (required)" with a deadline of January 25th, but I can’t find any explanation anywhere—despite searching the Canadian government website and Google. No links, nothing!
I’ve emailed them but haven’t heard back yet. I’m thinking of calling the Canadian embassy in Paris tomorrow. Even though I’m not stressing yet, it’d be a bummer if everyone else got to go without me!
If anyone’s had this issue before or knows what this explanation letter is about, I’d love to hear more.

I bought a one-way flight (Ryanair) and a return flight (EasyJet) to spend a week in Morocco in April.
My passport expires 3 weeks after the return date.
Some websites say the passport must be valid for 3 months at the time of entry.
However, it will still be valid both on entry and return, but its validity will only be 1 month at the time of entry (and 3 weeks on the return date, everything prepaid).
It's an individual family trip.
The consulate can't give me an answer—they're still looking into it (really!)
Last year, we stayed for 3 months in Thailand, north of Khao Lak, and were able to benefit from the 2-month visa exemption, renewable for one month by going to Takua Pa to validate a 1-month extension (1,900 baht).
This year, it’s a disaster for us—not only were we planning a 4-month stay, adding a visa run in between (which some say is quite risky), but the law is apparently changing in the coming months with the return of the 1-month exemption (plus the usual 1-month option). So, we looked into applying for a 6-month multiple-entry visa, allowing a maximum of 60 consecutive days in Thailand. However, I can’t find anywhere the minimum time required outside Thailand between two stays—do any of you have an idea?

As a French national, I need to obtain a short-stay visa that can be converted to a long-stay one. To do this, I have to send the required documents to the Madagascar embassy in Paris.
No issues with that procedure so far.
If I get this visa, once I arrive in Madagascar, I’ll need to provide the same documents to the Ministry of the Interior in Anosy. I’m trying to find an email address or website for the Ministry to check which documents I need to submit (I think they ask for additional ones).

I’d like to know if anyone has already applied for a private visa to Russia with an invitation from a Russian resident.
I traveled earlier this year with an e-visa, but since I want to stay longer, I’ll be visiting my friend who lives in eastern Russia.
For the visa application, does the invitation need to be on an official paper form issued by the Russian ministry? And most importantly, do I need to present the original for the application, or is there an electronic version that can be sent directly to the consulate in France?

I filled out the B2 form to apply for a visa, created an account on Atvis to pay the visa fees and schedule a meet-up, but every time I try to pay with my Boursobank Visa 1st card, they refuse the payment with a message telling me to check my details (address), even though everything is correct. Does anyone know why this is happening, or maybe they don’t accept Visa cards? Are you aware of this?

Paper documents might not be accepted.

I’ve read that China may ask for proof of exit within 30 days (flight ticket or other reservation). Since we’d be leaving by land, I’m wondering how this works in practice.

My wife and I are heading to the US.
On her ticket, it only has her maiden name (e.g., Martine DUPOND).
On her passport, it’s written as Martine DUPOND épouse AVRY.
No issues for travel, I hope I did the right thing with the ticket?
Then for the ESTA, is just Martine DUPOND enough, or do I need to include the "épouse AVRY" part like on the passport?
