Je projette un voyage en famille à Taïwan du 26 janvier au 9 février pour accompagner ma fille accomplissant un semestre d'études à Zhongli (je ne garantis pas l'orthographe !) à environ 20mn de Taïpei . Nous aimerions en profiter pour passer 2 ou 3 jours à Hong Kong : quelles formalités vais-je devoir régler ? est-ce possible par internet ? 3 jours vous semblent-ils suffisants ?
Sur quels sites puis-je obtenir les meilleurs prix pour mes billets d'avion tout en restant sur des compagnies aériennes sûres? Quels hôtels me conseilleriez-vous pour Hong Kong ?
Pour Taîwan, je me demandais s'il ne serait pas plus avantageux de louer un appartement...Sinon, avez-vous des hôtels à me recommander ? Nous y serons pour le nouvel an chinois ( fixé je crois au 31 janvier) J'ai lu qu'il fallait s'attendre à 3 jours de perturbations ou de fermetures de certains lieux : la veille, le jour même et le lendemain, je suppose?
Quels sont les endroits à ne surtout pas rater , voire les autres pays voisins à découvrir, d'un saut de puce ?
Avec un passeport de l'Union Européenne (et de beaucoup d'autres pays), vous pouvez séjourner 90 jours sans visa à Hong Kong ainsi qu'à Taïwan. La seule condition pour Taïwan est d'avoir un billet d'avion de continuation, et un passeport ayant 6 mois de validité au délà de votre date de départ. Pour HK, je ne me souviens plus, mais dans les deux cas, il n'y a aucune formalité préalable.
Il y a un véritable pont aérien entre Hong Kong et Taipei, mais malheureusement pas de bon plan : le tarif standard est de 8000 TWD, soit à peu près 200 EUR l'A/R. J'ai vu épisodiquement des offres promotionnelles à 7000 TWD.
Ce sont évidemment des vacances pour votre fille, mais ce n'est vraiment pas le meilleur moment de l'année pour aller à Taiwan et HK, car les hébergements et les transports sont pris d'assaut. J'ai renoncé à aller sur l'île de Kinmen à cette période là : les gîtes étaient soit complets, soit fermés. Mais à supposer que vous ayez trouvé de la place (avion et hôtel) à HK, vous aurez largement de quoi faire avec trois jours à HK et une semaine à Taipei et ses alentours.
PS : oui, Zhongli s'écrit ainsi; c'est à une demi-heure en train de banlieue du centre de Taipei.

Malheureusement , nous n'avons pas le choix de la période puisque le semestre universitaire que ma fille va suivre à la "National central university" de Zhongli commence le 15 février, sachant qu'elle termine son semestre en France au moment des vacances de Noël donc vers le 20 décembre...Il me faut donc réserver le plus vite possible, je suppose, maintenant que nous sommes sûrs de ce point de chute...Par contre, quel lieu d'hébergement vous semblerait le plus cohérent pour visiter Taïwan : Taïpei ou Zhongli ? Et puisque vous me semblez bien connaître cette région, dans quel endroit de HK est-il préférable de séjourner, pour découvrir le mieux possible sans être trop gêné par le bruit et l'agitation ambiante (je m'en fais peut-être une fausse idée !)

Je suis allé plusieurs fois à Zhongli où il n'y a pas grand chose à voir sur place. La seule motivation pour se baser là serait de louer une voiture à l'aéroport (permis de conduire international obligatoire) et de rayonner en faisant l'impasse sur les attractions de Taipei intra-muros, ce qui serait dommage.
Comme il s'agit de votre premier séjour, je vous conseille de séjourner à Taipei, où les transports en commun sont efficaces et faciles à utiliser.
Je ne connais pas très bien HK; la dernière fois que j'y suis allé, j'ai séjourné sur l'île de Hong-Kong, à l'extrémité ouest de la ligne de métro, dans le quartier de Soho que j'ai trouvé agréable et où les hôtels étaient moins chers qu'à Kowloon.
D'accord avec tout ce qu'a écrit Marathon, je vais juste apporter 1 petit complément et poser une question subsidiaire
Pour le prix de l'avion, j'ai effectivement payé 2089 HK$ (soit environ 200 euros) pour 1AR HK/Taipei (en fait aller Taichung, retour depuis Taipei, mais c'était le même prix). Par contre, par curiosité, (pensant que ce serait beaucoup plus cher), je viens de regarder (chez HK Airlines) et j'ai trouvé à cette période (fin janvier début février) des tarifs très disparates, y compris du 4600 TWD 😛
dans quel endroit de HK est-il préférable de séjourner, pour découvrir le mieux possible sans être trop gêné par le bruit et l'agitation ambiante (je m'en fais peut-être une fausse idée !)
HK est une très grande ville, très agitée, mais passionnante (ma ville préférée au monde).
Qu'espérez-vous y trouver et qu'entendez-vous par bruit et agitation ambiante ?
Pour info, dans un grand nombre d'hôtels (sauf guesthouses "mal famées" plutôt faites pour routards et finalement pas particulièrement bon marché), bien qu'à deux pas du "centre" ville, l'isolation vous permettra de ne rien entendre.
Mais si d'une manière générale, le bruit et l'agitation vous gênent, Hong-Kong n'est peut-être pas un lieu qui vous conviendrait.
Quel niveau de confort et de tarif attendez-vous ? (il est très cher de se loger à HK)

Merci de ces quelques remarques ...Je me suis mise en recherche ce matin des billets d'avion et j'ai trouvé pour tout notre périple avec "Cathay Pacific" Paris-Hong_Kong-Taïwan-Paris pour environ 750€/personne...Je ne sais pas si cette compagnie est fiable???...Notre arrêt à Hong Kong, c'est juste pour la découverte, sans aucun projet précis, et il est vrai que les isolations phoniques performantes permettront de se reposer des journées "marathon" que nos filles veulent nous faire vivre...J'ai commencé à regarder et chercher sur des sites comme tripadvisor et autres un hôtel 4* et n'ai rien arrêté encore car les avis laissés par les visiteurs sont parfois trés différents...J'ai vu des hôtels qui semblaient d'un bon niveau pour environ 250€ les 2 nuits en chambre quadruple, sans petit déjeuner bien sûr...J'avoue que j'ai des difficultés, ne connaissant pas, à choisir LE bon endroit, pour profiter au mieux de nos 3 jours sans perdre trop de temps dans les divers transports...ni être dans un quartier chaud...Il est vrai que nous y serons à la période du nouvel an et qu'il y aura sans doute beaucoup de monde...et c'est donc pour cela qu'il est grand temps de boucler mes réservations car je pars dans quelques jours pour 3 semaines en Nouvelle Calédonie...

si vous trouvez des tarifs qui vous conviennent sur Cathay Pacific, n'hésitez-pas, c'est une excellente compagnie !
Pour ce qui est de HK, si vous utilisez TripAdvisor (je vous conseille également Booking.com, que j'apprécie particulièrement pour les tarifs mais également pour les notes données par les uns et les autres et le classement qu'on peut obtenir), je ne vous apporterai pas de meilleurs conseils concernant les tarifs ou le confort.
En revanche, afin d'éviter de perdre du temps dans les transports, je vous conseille de vous cantonner
- à Hong-Kong Island (en vous focalisant sur les quartiers Central, Wan Chai et Causeway Bay)
- et Kowloon (en vous focalisant sur le quartier Tsim Sha Tsui, c'est à dire uniquement le sud de la péninsule)
A partir de là, vous pourrez marcher ou prendre un des nombreux bus, tramway, ferries et métros qui circulent pour joindre les différents lieux que vous visiterez durant ces 3 jours et qui de toute façon sont peu distants les uns des autres (car en 3 jours, vous aurez du mal à aller au-delà de ces 4 quartiers). Rassurez-vous, ça fait déjà pas mal de choses à découvrir et c'est le coeur de HK.
PS : il est possible que plutôt qu'un quartier, ce soit des stations de métro qui soient citées (pour le choix de l'hôtel). Dans ce cas, ajoutez Admiralty à ma liste (station située entre Central et Wan Chai)

Si vous arrivez pour le nouvel an Chinois a Taiwan , c'est assez délicat car tout les hôtels vont être pleins vous avez intérêt a réserver vos chambres d'hôtel maintenant , pour nous qui habitons ici depuis 20ans nous avons déjà acheter nos billets d'avions pour prendre quelques jours a Bornéo , dans 1 mois cela sera trop tard .Au nouvel an tout ceux qui ne prenne pas l'avion parte dans le sud de Taiwan et tout ce réserve souvent d'une année a l'autre , vous n'avez qu'a demander a Marathon qui a habité a Taiwan .

Je viens de réserver mes billets d'avion et ai repéré un appart-hôtel dans le quartier de Xinyi : connaissez-vous ? Qu'en pensez-vous ? Les transports en commun sont-ils coûteux ? car nous ne pensons pas louer de voitures mais emprunter trains, bus, métro...Le sud est-il intéressant ? J'ai également vu ce reportage, assez édifiant il est vrai. Cela permet de rappeler que toutes les classes sociales vivent à Hong-Kong et pas uniquement les très riches.
J'ai eu logé, à Kowloon, dans des chambres très exigües et peu confortables, mais rien à voir cependant avec des cages.🤪
Sur la petite dizaine d'hôtels que j'ai pu tester à Hong-Kong, j'ai toujours retrouvé ce que j'avais pu lire avant (description faite par l'hôtel + critiques des clients y ayant séjourné).
Taïwan
Traduit en euros, le coût des transports à Taïwan est bien moins onéreux qu'en France. Et pour le train, par exemple, si en France, la mise en place du TGV a, petit à petit, fait disparaître les trains "classiques", moins rapides et moins chers, j'ai apprécié à Taïwan pouvoir choisir l'un ou l'autre (par exemple sur mon trajet Taichung->Taïpei).
A Taipei, personnellement, j'ai surtout utilisé le métro (très pratique et agréable) et la marche à pieds, pas les bus (sauf le dernier jour pour rejoindre l'aéroport).
A Xinyi, le "quartier du shopping", et celui (notamment) de la Taipei 101 et du Mémorial de Sun Yat-Sen, vous serez peut-être juste à côté d'une station de métro...ou peut-être loin, car aucune ligne ne passe en son centre ou à l'est.
Le prix d'un ticket (jeton devrais-je écrire) de métro est proportionnel à la distance parcourue.

I’m planning a trip from France to Alberta/British Columbia, and I’m unsure about which bank card to use for the security deposit with the rental company (I’m thinking of going with AVIS).
I contacted Avis Canada, and they told me a credit card is absolutely required. I asked my bank for a credit card (a *real* credit card), but they only offered me a deferred debit card.
My question: For a rental with Avis Canada, is a Gold International Mastercard deferred debit card usable for the security deposit needed to finalize the rental? Is the "CREDIT" label enough? (Some cards say "CREDIT" and others say "CARTE DE CREDIT"—seems minor, but it’s actually a big deal in how the card works.)
I’ve seen conflicting info everywhere I look... My bank says it’s *usually* okay (the deferred debit card), while Avis Canada insists it *must* be a credit card, not debit—even when I mention the deferred debit card.
I know the whole credit card concept is already confusing, and on top of that, some sites say a deferred debit card counts as a credit card, while others say it doesn’t.

I’ll explain my situation.
Unfortunately, I lost my passport, and I only realized it two weeks before my departure for a humanitarian mission in Libya. I’m a nurse, and this mission really means a lot to me.
First, I applied for an emergency passport, but it was denied by the Val-d'Oise prefecture on the grounds that a planned humanitarian mission wasn’t considered an urgent reason.
So, I submitted a biometric passport application on July 20th. Since then, the tracking has been stuck, and the town hall can’t (or won’t) give me any clear information. Every time I call, I get a different story. The last update I received was that the passport had been produced since July 23rd with a status of "about to be shipped," but nothing since then.
I’ve managed to push my departure back to next Tuesday at the latest, but I’m starting to really panic.
Have any of you submitted an application around July 20th, especially in Val-d'Oise (95)? How long did you wait between the passport being produced and it being available at the town hall? Is it normal for this step to take this long?
This mission means so much to me. I had everything organized, and I’m also supposed to attend a friend’s wedding right after near the border.

I’m a bit embarrassed because I need to travel to Quebec from February 27th to March 13th. I’m a regular visitor to Canada—this will be my 10th trip since 1997, plus a year as a permanent resident (2000–2001) and a cross-country run from Vancouver to Halifax in 2011. So, I’m definitely not a terrorist!
But since our last trip in July 2015, they’ve introduced this eTA thing. Seems more like a way to make money than to actually secure Canada, if you ask me, but anyway, that’s not the point.
I applied for an eTA for myself, my wife, and our two kids. They all got approved within hours, but not me! I was asked to create a GC key and then an IRCC account, which I did. Normally, you get news within 72 hours, but since Monday, January 15th, nothing!
In the "message" section of the account, it says "explanation letter (required)" with a deadline of January 25th, but I can’t find any explanation anywhere—despite searching the Canadian government website and Google. No links, nothing!
I’ve emailed them but haven’t heard back yet. I’m thinking of calling the Canadian embassy in Paris tomorrow. Even though I’m not stressing yet, it’d be a bummer if everyone else got to go without me!
If anyone’s had this issue before or knows what this explanation letter is about, I’d love to hear more.

I bought a one-way flight (Ryanair) and a return flight (EasyJet) to spend a week in Morocco in April.
My passport expires 3 weeks after the return date.
Some websites say the passport must be valid for 3 months at the time of entry.
However, it will still be valid both on entry and return, but its validity will only be 1 month at the time of entry (and 3 weeks on the return date, everything prepaid).
It's an individual family trip.
The consulate can't give me an answer—they're still looking into it (really!)
Last year, we stayed for 3 months in Thailand, north of Khao Lak, and were able to benefit from the 2-month visa exemption, renewable for one month by going to Takua Pa to validate a 1-month extension (1,900 baht).
This year, it’s a disaster for us—not only were we planning a 4-month stay, adding a visa run in between (which some say is quite risky), but the law is apparently changing in the coming months with the return of the 1-month exemption (plus the usual 1-month option). So, we looked into applying for a 6-month multiple-entry visa, allowing a maximum of 60 consecutive days in Thailand. However, I can’t find anywhere the minimum time required outside Thailand between two stays—do any of you have an idea?

As a French national, I need to obtain a short-stay visa that can be converted to a long-stay one. To do this, I have to send the required documents to the Madagascar embassy in Paris.
No issues with that procedure so far.
If I get this visa, once I arrive in Madagascar, I’ll need to provide the same documents to the Ministry of the Interior in Anosy. I’m trying to find an email address or website for the Ministry to check which documents I need to submit (I think they ask for additional ones).

I’d like to know if anyone has already applied for a private visa to Russia with an invitation from a Russian resident.
I traveled earlier this year with an e-visa, but since I want to stay longer, I’ll be visiting my friend who lives in eastern Russia.
For the visa application, does the invitation need to be on an official paper form issued by the Russian ministry? And most importantly, do I need to present the original for the application, or is there an electronic version that can be sent directly to the consulate in France?

I filled out the B2 form to apply for a visa, created an account on Atvis to pay the visa fees and schedule a meet-up, but every time I try to pay with my Boursobank Visa 1st card, they refuse the payment with a message telling me to check my details (address), even though everything is correct. Does anyone know why this is happening, or maybe they don’t accept Visa cards? Are you aware of this?

Just a question that’s probably been asked before (though usually the other way around for my situation :))
My wife and I are heading to the US.
On her ticket, it only has her maiden name (e.g., Martine DUPOND).
On her passport, it’s written as Martine DUPOND épouse AVRY.
No issues for travel, I hope I did the right thing with the ticket?
Then for the ESTA, is just Martine DUPOND enough, or do I need to include the "épouse AVRY" part like on the passport?

I’m spending a few days in San Pedro de Atacama (Chile) and would like to cross the Argentine border to make a loop toward Salta and then return to Chile to drop off the rental car.
I’ve heard that crossing the border can be tricky!
Is it possible with a rental company’s authorization? Which company, and at what cost?

I saw on the French Embassy in Peru’s website and the Peruvian Consulate in Paris’s site that the rule is to have a passport valid for 6 months *after the arrival date* (not the return date).
I arrive in Peru on August 13, 2019 (for about twelve days), and my passport is valid until February 16, 2020.
That’s 6 months and 3 days after my arrival date in Peru. In my opinion, I’m good to go.
But could I still be denied entry if they say I don’t cover the return date or that I’m too close to the 6-month mark?
