Bonjour,
Je me suis fait domicilier à l'étranger afin de bénéficier du statut gold à 40 000 miles statut seulement au lieu de 70 000 si j'étais domicilié en France. Or il se trouve que je possède 25 000 miles statut et qu'il me manque donc 15 000 miles . J'ai aussi souscrit la carte American Express d'air france afin de cumuler plus rapidement des miles.
Pour ceux qui connaissent le fonctionnement de cette carte et des travels cheques (chèque de voyage american express), que pensez vous de l'astuce suivante : acheter pour 15 000 euros de travels cheques avec ma carte american express ce qui me permettra de cumuler les 15 000 miles manquants et ensuite de les encaisser à ma banque. Coût total de l'opération : 1% de 15 000 euros soit 150 euros ( il s'agit de la commission d'achat des chèques american express ).
Pensez vous que cela soit possible ? Cela vaut t il le coût en contrepartie des avantage du staut flying blue gold, cad accès aux salons, kg en plus....(je voyage assez souvent)
De plus il ne s'agit pas de 150 euros de perte sèche car j'aurai alors un gain de 15000 miles, sachant qu'un mile est estimé à un cent, cela représenterai 150 euros soit aucune perte d'argent.
Qu'en pensez vous ? ça devrait marcher non ?

Si tu peux encaisser les travelcheques a ta banque, a priori, ca peut etre une bonne operation. D atre part, si tu obtiens de suite tes cheques et les encaisses de suite, peut etre meme les auras tu credites sur ton compte avant meme que les 15.000 soient debités !
Moi aussi il me manquait 4500 miles qualifiants ya quelques annees pour atteindre les 40.000 fin decembre pour etre gold. Du coup je suis alle a la Fnac acheter un ordi portable pour 4500 euros avant Noel de telle sorte que ces 4500 miles soit comptabilisés en decembre, et je comptais ramener l ordi quelques jours apres (pretextant un cadeau de noel faisant double emploi) pour qu ils me le remboursent et que les miles recredités aparaissent en janvier uniquement... faut prendre soin de calculer la date d achat de telle sorte que 10 jours plus tard, on etait sur le mois de janvier) Mais mieux qu espéré, au lieu de me recréditer les 4500 euros sur mon compte Amex (qui du coup m aurait retranché 4500 miles), j ai donné au caissier une carte visa pour le remboursement, et donc tout benef pour le gain des 4500 miles et le statut gold qui va avec !
Pour les travelers chèque, je suis à la bnp qui accepte sans frais de les reprendre(lien). Quant-à ta technique à la fnac c'est une bonne idée sauf que comme tu dis il faut bien calculer son coup pour les dates. Pour moi cela demande un trop grand achat vu qu'il me manque 15 000 miles, c'est pour ça que j'ai eu l'idée des traveler chèques mais il doit surement y avoir d'autres techniques équivalentes voir à moindre coût. Ce qui est sur, c'est que le banquier va me regarder bizarrement quand je vais lui annoncer que je veux acheter 15 000 euros de chèques de voyage. Et il va surement me prendre pour un fou quand 5 minutes plus tard je vais lui demander de tout me racheter :) 😇 mais bon, je sais ce que je fais.
Si vous avez d'autres techniques, elles sont les bienvenues.

Sur mes releves amex, je me souviens avoir vu passer des promos pour des traveler cheques ou devises sans frais, qu on pouvait acheter au guichet Amex a l aeroport de Nice, Orly ou de Roissy... J avoue que j avais ete tenté a l epoque mais c est pas valable pour les TC en euros... Reste a verifier que les com ne sont que de 1%, ce qui selon moi serait rentable car j estime le prix du mile a 1, 05 centimes (du moins pour les lignes que j emprunte, taxes deduites)
Par contre, pour gagner des miles en achetant des TC Amex, il faut les acheter qu en agence Amex non ? Et non pas a ton agence BNP...
15000 euros, oublie la Fnac, difficile de repartir avec un ecran geant sous les bras, et revenir avec. Mais avec un ordi utra portable de 3500 euros, c est possible ! Tu le ramenes au service apres vente qui verifie l integrité du paquet, te donne un bordereau que tu vas presenter a une caisse, et le caissier te demande une carte a crediter, et tu sors ta Visa classique...
L'achat de TC avec l'AMEX n'est-il pas considere comme un retrait d'especes donc avec une commission sur l'achat comme sur un ATM ?
En tout cas, avec les Amex americaines, acheter des TC dans un bureau de change, c'est comme retirer de l'argent liquide en ce qui concerne la commission. C'est peut etre du au fait que les TC en USD sont liquides (les boutiques les acceptent sans frais) a la difference de ceux en euros???

je tiens à préciser qu'il ne s'agit pas du tout d'un retrait d'espèces car on doit choisir des lieux qui acceptent la carte american express comme moyen de paiement. J'ai vous scanne justement la partie de mon relevé de compte qui précise qu'on accumule bien des miles. Pour ce qui concerne la comission, 1, 5% est le taux que l'on peut trouver à la Poste. Pour avoir un plus bas taux, il faut aller dans les bureaux american express ou autres banques.

Faux ... j'ai appelé AMEX avant de poster ( 01 53 30 99 00 ) ....J'entends par retrait d'éspèces le fait que l'achat des travelers va se faire comme si tu prenais du cash avec ton AMEX et donc débité 2 ou 3 jours après et non pas comme si tu achetais qqchose et donc relevé mensuel ... de plus la comission est de 1, 5% dans un bureau AMEX pour 10 000€ par exemple.
Faux...Voir pièce jointe ci dessus, en ce moment la commission est offerte sur les travelers US$ soit une comission variable en fonction des banques(bnp = cours du jour) En tout cas comission < 0, 5%. J'ai moi aussi appelé américan express "AVANT DE POSTER"(01 47 77 74 54= numéro concret pas l'accueil renseignement global), et si ils m'ont dit que si la poste vends des travelers cheques et acceptent le moyen de paiement car Carte AE il s'agira bien d'un paiement normal en différé mensuel tout comme tous mes achats. Et même s'il agissait d'un débit 3 jours cela revient au même pour moi. J ai la meme chose sur mon relevé Amex, mais qu est ce que c est que d acheter des devises ? On vous donne des billets de banque en dollars ?? C est precise sauf TC en euros, donc si c est en dollar, pert on au taux de change ? ou est il le meme pour achat et vente ?
Ma poste locale n accepte pas la carte Amex. Est il possible d acheter des TC sans commission en dehors des agences Amex ? Ou est on obligé d aller a aeroport Nice ou Paris ?

Vous raisonnez a l envers, ce n est pas pour 1000 euros, je fais 95238 miles, mais pour 95238 miles dépensés, ca me fait economiser le prix de 1000 euros en achat de billets d avion.

Mais je parle de la valeur marchande du mile, et non pas de la somme a depenser pour obtenir le mile. c est a dire le mile utilisé comme monnaie pour acheter un billet prime
3 exemples concrets :
billet Bordeaux Reunion A/R (que je fais 6 fois par an dans mon cas) = il me faut 60.000 miles pour 1 billet prime A/R qui coute (au moins ) 900 euros, dont 250 de taxes, donc les 60.000 miles ont une valeur marchande d au moins 650 euros donc prix du mile = 650/60.000 = 0, 01083 euro soit 1, 083 centimes
billet Bordeaux San Francisco A/R = il faut 50.000 miles et ca vaut ai mieux environ 750 euros dont 250 de taxe, donc (750-250)/50.000 = 500/50.000 = 0, 01 euro = 1 centime (ce qui colle avec l evaulation de eddy834)
billet Bordeaux Paris A/R. Pour 20.000 miles prime ou bien 150 euros - 30 de taxe = 120. donc 120/20.000 = 0, 006 euro = 0, 6 centime
Conclusion : utiliser ses miles est surtout rentable pour les long-courriers, pour les vols domestiques, il n est interressant de les depenser que pour des vols de derniere minute lorsque le prix du billet s est envole par exemple a 400 euros. Si vous l achetez longtemps a l avance, vaut mieux garder ses miles et payer le billet BOD-CDG a 110 euros.
Remarque : les web awards sont 2 fois plus avantageux car necessitent 2 fois moins de miles pour s offrir le voyage (ou alors vous voyagez en business pour le meme prix)

Mais ensuite, tu vas les utiliser comment ? Tu vas devoir les reconvertir et là tu vas perdre pas mal de tunes avec le taux de change, non ?

Since it came into force, Regulation 261/2004 of the European Parliament and Council, which defines air passenger rights, has faced fierce resistance from airlines, backed by IATA (the association representing almost all passenger airlines).
Beyond the airlines' often abusive—and even frequently bad-faith—resistance to passenger rights, IATA has been lobbying EU institutions for years, with the Council paying close attention for a long time.
As a result, the Council and the Commission have been proposing revisions to Regulation 261/2004 for years that are particularly unfavorable to passengers. The latest attempt nearly eliminated the right to compensation for delays of 3 hours or more upon arrival at the final destination.
However, since this is a regulation of both the European Parliament AND the Council, the two bodies had to agree.
But the European Parliament has always stood firm, consistently responding that passenger rights must be preserved.
After 11 years of struggle, it seems likely that we’re finally nearing the end of the match between the European Commission, the Council (the 27 heads of state or government), and the European Parliament.
Indeed, the Commission and the European Parliament have agreed on a text that will be debated again on Monday, July 6, 2026, with a vote scheduled for July 7, 2026. It’s very likely that this text, which would come into force in a year, will be adopted.
The main changes would be as follows: - Families with children will no longer be forced to pay to sit together on planes; - A flight will be considered canceled (not just delayed) if it departs more than one hour late; - Right to compensation for arrival at the final destination if the delay exceeds 3 hours (no longer "3 hours OR more"). The arrival time will be when the plane, having reached its parking spot, engages its parking brakes (no longer when the aircraft door opens); - Airlines can no longer refuse boarding or charge extra on the return flight for a passenger who didn’t take the outbound flight; - If a flight is canceled, the airline must, at the same time as informing passengers of the event, offer the choice between a refund and re-routing, and inform them of their rights to assistance and, if applicable, compensation; - The airline must, without undue delay, inform passengers of the reason; - In the case of a connecting flight, if the connection is missed and the delay at the final destination entitles the passenger to compensation, the responsible airline will be liable. This is very different from the current situation, where, under the KLM ruling, any airline operating a segment of the flight is liable for compensation. This promises more disputes that the Court of Justice of the European Union will have to resolve if two separate airlines operating segments of a connecting flight are both responsible for the delay. See this case for an example: https://retardimportantavion.wordpress.com/2026/04/18/swiss-international-air-lines-la-mauvaise-foi/ Moreover, this case demonstrates in advance another potential dispute: It could be argued that it wasn’t a missed connection since the flight was canceled before the first leg even departed. - Within 96 hours of a flight that could entitle passengers to compensation, the airline must contact them to inform them of their rights and explain the next steps. - Passengers must claim their right to compensation within 9 months. This is very different from the current situation, as Regulation 261/2004 sets no time limit. Currently, national law applies—in France, the limit is 5 years. The airline must respond within 30 days. If the airline refuses compensation on the grounds of "extraordinary circumstances," it must specify which type of case it refers to from the list in the annex of the new regulation. If the case isn’t on the list, the airline must explain what the event was, why it qualifies as extraordinary circumstances with "clear, substantial, and concise" explanations, and why it’s directly linked to the reason given. It must also declare what "reasonable measures" were taken to mitigate the issue. This is, of course, a huge change in the regulation, with the clear goal of preventing airlines from declaring just anything as "extraordinary circumstances" to avoid compensation. - If, within 3 hours of a last-minute canceled or delayed flight, the airline hasn’t offered re-routing under comparable transport conditions and as soon as possible—whether on one of its own flights or another airline’s—the passenger will have the right to arrange their own re-routing and demand a refund for the new ticket, up to 400% of the original ticket price. This is a significant improvement that would have likely prevented the case described here: https://retardimportantavion.wordpress.com/2024/01/12/reacheminement-catastrophique-droit-indemnisation-meme-circonstances-extraordinaires-2/ - If a flight is canceled due to "extraordinary circumstances," the airline will only be required to offer up to 3 nights in a hotel. This is a major change, as there’s currently no limit. Expect disputes if the extraordinary circumstances end while the passenger hasn’t been re-routed. - The price of a flight, as first displayed, must obligatorily include a cabin bag. This doesn’t prevent the airline from offering a price reduction if the passenger waives the cabin bag. This will put an end to abnormal practices, such as (just one example) Condor charging extra for a cabin bag on long-haul flights like Frankfurt (Germany)–Puerto Plata (Dominican Republic)–Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic)–Frankfurt. - Free correction of a passenger’s name if requested 48 hours before departure. Note: This can’t be used to replace one passenger with another—just to correct a typo, e.g., Dupont instead of Dpont. - Airlines’ websites and apps must include information on how to file a claim.
It’s clear that, despite a few details, these changes are very positive for upholding passenger rights. It remains to be seen whether this text will be definitively adopted on July 7, 2026, as is very likely, and, more importantly, whether IATA will encourage airlines to loyally respect these new rules or persist in their old habits.

This is very different from the current situation, where, under the KLM ruling, any airline operating a segment of the flight is liable for compensation. This promises more disputes that the Court of Justice of the European Union will have to resolve if two separate airlines operating segments of a connecting flight are both responsible for the delay. This is very different from the current situation, as Regulation 261/2004 sets no time limit. Currently, national law applies—in France, the limit is 5 years. The airline must respond within 30 days. If the airline refuses compensation on the grounds of "extraordinary circumstances," it must specify which type of case it refers to from the list in the annex of the new regulation. If the case isn’t on the list, the airline must explain what the event was, why it qualifies as extraordinary circumstances with "clear, substantial, and concise" explanations, and why it’s directly linked to the reason given. It must also declare what "reasonable measures" were taken to mitigate the issue. This is, of course, a huge change in the regulation, with the clear goal of preventing airlines from declaring just anything as "extraordinary circumstances" to avoid compensation. - If, within 3 hours of a last-minute canceled or delayed flight, the airline hasn’t offered re-routing under comparable transport conditions and as soon as possible—whether on one of its own flights or another airline’s—the passenger will have the right to arrange their own re-routing and demand a refund for the new ticket, up to 400% of the original ticket price. This is a significant improvement that would have likely prevented the case described here: https://retardimportantavion.wordpress.com/2024/01/12/reacheminement-catastrophique-droit-indemnisation-meme-circonstances-extraordinaires-2/ - If a flight is canceled due to "extraordinary circumstances," the airline will only be required to offer up to 3 nights in a hotel. This is a major change, as there’s currently no limit. Expect disputes if the extraordinary circumstances end while the passenger hasn’t been re-routed. - The price of a flight, as first displayed, must obligatorily include a cabin bag. This doesn’t prevent the airline from offering a price reduction if the passenger waives the cabin bag. This will put an end to abnormal practices, such as (just one example) Condor charging extra for a cabin bag on long-haul flights like Frankfurt (Germany)–Puerto Plata (Dominican Republic)–Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic)–Frankfurt. - Free correction of a passenger’s name if requested 48 hours before departure. Note: This can’t be used to replace one passenger with another—just to correct a typo, e.g., Dupont instead of Dpont. - Airlines’ websites and apps must include information on how to file a claim.
It’s clear that, despite a few details, these changes are very positive for upholding passenger rights. It remains to be seen whether this text will be definitively adopted on July 7, 2026, as is very likely, and, more importantly, whether IATA will encourage airlines to loyally respect these new rules or persist in their old habits.

We need assistance for check-in and boarding/disembarking (my husband is a mobility-impaired traveler who uses a cane and/or a walker). We’ve done a cruise return from Dubai to Paris CDG before in 2016, with a layover in Istanbul, but we booked the transfer and return flight with COSTA. For our current plan, it would be with Celestyal, which doesn’t offer round-trip flights from Paris to Dubai. Should we book very far in advance, or is a few months before departure enough (4/6 months)? We’re thinking of arriving the day before the ship departs, so we’d need to stay overnight in Dubai—either on the way there or for the return flight, depending on the flight schedules. Could you recommend a hotel not too far from the airport, and how to get to the port from the airport?

I booked a flight with RyanAir for next month, with the priority+ option and two cabin bags. So I can take a 10 kg bag with dimensions 55x40x20 in the cabin (plus another smaller one). The problem is that the smallest suitcase I have (which is supposed to be designed specifically for cabin size standards, according to the manual) has the following dimensions: 55x37x21, so it's just 1 cm over (wheels included) on one of the measurements.
I wasn’t too worried at first, but I’ve read dozens of stories about people’s misadventures and the hassles they’ve had with RyanAir.
Since I don’t want my suitcase to end up in the hold (that would waste time picking it up when I’m already arriving late and need to get to the city center), nor do I want to pay an extra fee (apparently 50 €) for the outbound and return flights for just 1 centimeter—especially since I paid for the "priority+" option and I’m not exactly rolling in money—I’d love some advice.
Have any of you been in the same situation? I’ve read that with this airline, they check bags in templates (testing them in different positions) and are completely uncompromising. I tried contacting customer service, who, as luck would have it, "don’t handle this kind of request," and a rep I spoke to wasn’t much help.
I know it’s a low-cost airline, and I don’t expect luxury or even kindness, but come on—just 1 cm on a short flight with the + option... I’m a bit overwhelmed by everything I’ve read...

I’d like to return to Uzbekistan next April for 10 days with my husband to visit our son who lives there. We went last July and I bought the flight tickets (direct flight from Paris on Uzbekistan Airways) about 2 months in advance at very reasonable prices. I’ve been checking for late April for a few weeks now, and the tickets are much more expensive and keep rising. I can’t figure out if the prices are going up because it’s still a bit too early to buy and they’ll likely drop if the planes aren’t full, or if it’s because the period is actually in high demand. For reference, last year I bought my son’s ticket on May 30th for a departure on June 3rd—just 3 days later—at a very low price that didn’t budge at all.
Just in case, does anyone know the pricing trends for this airline and can advise me? Should I wait or not?

At midnight, the flight attendant booked us on a flight to Nice via Munich, even though we were in Munich and wanted to get back to Nice... Too tired from the trip, we didn’t notice the mistake!! The next day, of course, the booking wasn’t valid!! We had to pay again for the flight back to Nice... I’m really struggling!! I think they’re giving me the runaround!! I’ve sent several emails, tried Messenger and WhatsApp, but the only responses I get are: "We need to investigate!! We’ll get back to you in 15 days!!" It’s been over a month!!
I just sent a registered letter (LRAR) to their office at Paris Charles de Gaulle, which is still open!!

Sri Lanka has announced it could run out of fuel in the coming weeks if the Strait of Hormuz remains blocked. The government has implemented a mandatory four-day workweek to save oil, and there are long lines at gas stations due to fears of an early shortage.
In Vietnam, the government has warned all airlines that flights will need to be reduced due to a lack of kerosene. The country imports two-thirds of its jet fuel from China and Thailand, but both countries have now banned exports out of fear of domestic shortages.
The state is asking airlines to plan ahead and park aircraft to drastically reduce operations, starting with domestic flights and then international ones. International carriers will also need to cut back on their rotations.
This will begin in the coming days. 🙁

First question: Will my checked baggage be transferred automatically? I have a single ticket from KTI to YUL (Air Canada ticket—KTI-ICN operated by Asiana (codeshare) and ICN-YUL by Air Canada).

Hi everyone,
I'm heading to Namibia next May. I'm planning to take a first flight from Paris to Johannesburg with Air France, departing at 11:20 PM and arriving at 11:05 AM in Johannesburg. Then a second flight from Johannesburg to Windhoek at 3:25 PM with South African Airways.
Four hours between the two flights seems enough to catch my connection, but a friend told me I should maybe take the 5:30 PM flight instead because I need to go through immigration, collect my luggage, and check in again. Apparently, I have to do this because I bought the two tickets separately (it's actually much cheaper).
What do you think?
Also, in terms of South African airlines, which one do you think is the most reliable between South African Airways and Airlink?

So, even before starting my explanation, I’d like to introduce myself since this is my first post on the forum :) I’m Jérôme, a huge Asia enthusiast, and I’m currently in the process of moving to Japan with my family in 2028.
Now, onto the topic :)
We’re a family of four traveling together to Seoul, with two separate bookings.
Our original itinerary was: Madrid → Doha → Seoul (March 23–24)
The issue is that our entire outbound flight was canceled, and the airline simply rescheduled the Madrid → Doha leg. Now we’re left with an incomplete journey, with no solution to reach our final destination (Seoul).
Since then:
- Can’t modify flights online (technical error every time) - Can’t get help via chat or WhatsApp - Phone support is unreachable, and the usual French number isn’t working right now
We don’t want a refund. We just want to be rerouted to Seoul, as our original ticket promised.
We’re flexible:
- On dates (we can leave on March 21 or 22 instead of the 23rd) - On the itinerary (different layovers if needed)
Have any of you dealt with this before? Do you know how to unlock a booking in this case or get a rerouting? We’re considering going straight to the airport to resolve it at the Qatar Airways counter....

Hi,
We just received an email from Volotea saying our flight time has changed (by more than 2 hours).
The email states "you can request a free date change."
If I change the date, will the flight price stay the same as the original price, or will I have to pay the difference?
Specifically: Our flight on the 7th is 46.25 €, and the one on the 8th is 92.51 €. If we switch to the 8th, how much will we pay?
When I request the date change to the 8th, it says "No additional fees."
