What day trips can we do around Prague?

Hi there

I’ve booked a trip to Prague with my mum in mid-September.

Since I already know the city, I’d love to see something else, but I’m realizing that transport is really slow.

I wanted to go to Karlovy Vary, but it takes longer than I thought… Plus, we won’t be staying near the train station.

So I’m looking for a day trip that’s MAXIMUM 1 hour away by transport.

I really don’t like spending too much time on transport, so if it’s not doable, I’ll just skip it.

If there’s nothing accessible, I won’t bother with day trips—it’s not a big deal.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Hi Miranda,

Prague is a bit like Paris—a big city that’s really different from the rest of the country and seen as different and even a bit arrogant by the rest of the country. It’s also kind of swallowed up the surrounding areas. That said, it should still be possible to visit places like Konopiště, for example.

Back in 2013, I visited Kutná Hora by train—the trip took less than an hour. I can’t remember if there was a bus from the station to the historic site of St. Barbara. That info should be easy to find online. Have a great trip!

For Kutná Hora, I’d checked and it was more like 1.5 hours. I’ll still think about it...

Thanks for your replies! !

Just for fun, I just checked how much a Bolt ride from the central station directly to Konopiště Castle costs. Around 40 €. About an hour depending on traffic.

Hi there,

Maybe consider heading to Mělník...

Good evening,

Check out Melnik, maybe...

It’s in the Czech Republic, not Bulgaria...

I need to see if it's worth it. I was more in the mood to explore a small town! !

You didn’t describe it like that. You can go to Plzeň—it’s really easy by train, with private companies—and it’s not exactly a small town. There’s Liberec to the north, but I’ve never been. I think it could be pretty nice.

Good evening,

Look into going to Melnik maybe...

That’s in Bulgaria...

VF picked the one in Bulgaria, but there *is* a Melnik north of Prague.

Personally, I second the Kutná Hora suggestion, even if it’s maybe a few minutes farther than what you’re looking for.

Nothing at all! We didn’t have time anyway.

Karlovy Vary is too far for a day trip. I’d love to tour the Czech Republic, but by car...
