De retour de thailande je voulais livrer mes impressions et avis sur ce que j'ai expérimenté que cela puisse, éventuellement servir à de futurs voyageurs :
Séjour du 5 novembre au 21 novembre
Mon vol : Paris / Phuket par ETIHAD AIRWAYS jusqu'à Bangkok puis BANGKOK AIRWAYS jusqu'à PHUKET acheté directement à la compagnie ETIHAD sur leur site, 830 € fin août : super compagnie comme souvent décrite, bon enchaînement des vols sans s'éterniser à Abu Dabi, nourriture correcte, place pour les jambes, pas de retard, une tonne de films, ...
Ma première étape : Koh Phi Phi : en sortant de l'avion direction le port, bateau et arrivée sur l'île que j'avais visitée en 2008 et que je voulais faire découvrir à mes amis : séjour au View Point Resort : 1 500 bath la nuit (32 € environ) petit dej compris dans bungalow ventilateur au plafond et vue sur la baie de Phi Phi : simple mais bien, de Tonsaï (le village) il faut marcher un peu tout de même mais bon c jouable, chambre propre, bon accueil rien à dire sinon qu'à partir de 20h le concours de bar qui fera le plus de bruit débute pour s'achever vers 1 heure du mat. De loin TONSAI ressemble alors à une espèce de fête foraine où l'alcool remplace la barbe à papa et les enfants sont plus des fêtards que des routards s'abreuvant de buckets (seaux d'alcools) qui laisseront à même le sol une fois finis. Immonde. Pire qu'il y a 2 ans, à mon avis.
Les restos : j'ai adoré près du débarcadère Mr TEE restaurant un peu en retrait sous des tentes, bonne nourriture thaïe, le plat autour de 100 - 150 bath (2.5 à 3.5 €) hors SINGHA (bière locale : 60 bath soit plus d'un €). Très bon Green Curry et très bon Tom Yam (soupe bien épicée).
Autre resto notable le Garlic 1992 que l'on a trouvé authentique.
Nous avons évité APACHE BAR, REAGGAE BAR, CARLITO, HIPPIE BAR, ...par contre juste avant le resort View Point bar très sympa avec musique plus Lounge et bon esprit.
Excursions : Une journée sur BAMBOO ISLAND avec au retour arrêt sur un spot sympa de snockerling (masques et tubas) sorte d'aquarium géant, Bamboo Island où comment se sentir seul au monde à quelques minutes de la grouillante Phi Phi. le Long Tail (bateau Taxi) pour 2 000 baths (à 4 personnes soit 10 € chacun, ...tout de même, on a payé je pense trop cher)
Une journée en s'arrêtant à Monkey Beach puis Loh Lana Bay toujours à Phi Phi : 800 bath à 4 le Long Tail (17 €) mais hélas Monkey Beach et Loh Lana Bay sont dans un état de saleté très alarmant, impossible de jeter une serviette sans avoir à repousser les immondices un peu plus loin : dommage car la plage de Lana Bay est très déserte et la baignade agréable.
Une journée sur Phi Phi Lee (petite île au large de Phi Phi Don abritant notamment la plage du film La Plage) : 1 200 bath à 4 (25-26 €) Un arrêt sur le lagon propice à la baignade assez agréable, un snokerling sur une autre partie de l'île très sympa, puis bien sûr la plage, The Beach MAYA BAY que l'on tente de découvrir derrière les dizaines de speed boat amarés setant pour quelques minutes leur centaines de curieux. Bon que critiquer, on en était aussi. On nous conseille de plutôt venir en fin de journée (16 heures) quand les speed boats sont repartis. Le seul intérêt et source d'amusement fut de voir les coréens ou japonais faire leurs poses photos sur la plage : c irracontable, il faut le voir ! mais je suis sûr que nous les faisons rire aussi d'une autre manière ...
Puis 4 jours à Koh LIPE : ferry jusqu'à Lanta puis Speed Boat 50 places jusqu'à Koh LIPE compter 2100 bath par personne (plus de 40 € ) pour 5 h de croisière.
Hébergement au PORN RESORT (ouais je sais le nom prête à confusion) petits bungalows posés sur la plage de Sunset Beach (500 bath la nuit soit 10 €) sorte de koh Phi Phi 10 ou 15 ans en arrière, bref, ce que je voulais, le pied total. Bons Mojitos au Mojito Bar, Bonne cuisine thaie un peu partout idéal de trainer sur la plage de PATTAYA BEACH (rien à voir avec la ville de PATTAYA attention) sur une natte posée sur le sable, la tête soutenue par un coussin triangle thaï. Très bonnes sessions snokerling autour de Koh Lipe, .....le rêve : je retournerai à Koh LIPE !
Puis 2 jours à KRABI, plage TONSAI BEACH à côté de RAILEY BEACH : De koh Lipe prendre un spedd Boat jusqu'à PAKBARA puis un Bus jusq'à KRABI puis taxi et Long Tail le tout 1 000 bath (20 €) par personne.
Nuits dans huttes dans la jungle au Green Village (350 bath soit 8 € environ). J'ai beaucoup aimé cette ambiance saine et sportive ici ce n'est pas la plongée mais l'escalade, la promenade dans la jungle au mileu de dizaines de singes, le small world Bar et son Peace Cake 😉, rien faire sur la plage ...les Prawns Squid et poissons au BBQ (compter quand même 500 bath par personne soit un peu plus de 10 € pour le repas)
Puis 1 journée PHUKET avec nuit à RAWAI beach chez un français tenant un resort dont j'ai oublié le nom (850 bath la nuit soit moins de 20 €) retrouvant pour le prix un peu d'eau chaude sous la douche ce qui fait du bien ! Location scooter la journée (4 €) histoire de faire une balade vers quelques plages et retour FRANCE !
N'hésitez pas à m'écrire si vous avez besoin d'infos ou questions. J'ai trouvé sur ce site beaucoup de conseils utiles, je serai donc heureux de pouvoir aider, à mon niveau de connaissance, certains d'entre vous.
Ce n'est pas du tout le genre de trip qu'on va faire, mais n'empêche, je tiens à te remercier pour ce retour d'infos très sympa, et qui effectivement peut être utile à bien des voyageurs.
Peut-être, après avoir écumé le pays de long en large, un jour nous restera-t-il l'envie de "faire" les îles côté Andaman... 😎

j ai lu que tu revenais de thaillande de mon cote nous partons du 3 fevrier au 4 mars a phuket avec la compagnie ethiad conseille par un ami .
habituellement j y vais par la thai mais l annee passee tres decue par cette compagnie donc nous sommes ravies d avoir fait le bon choix
je voulais te demander a combien est le change cette annee au mois de mars 2010 100€j avais 4300 bath mais on m a dit que l euro avait baisse
je descends a phuket ou je reserve un bungalow au coeur de patong je loue un scoter et ensuite chaque jour une nouvelle destination kamala surin nai yan etc resto massage et le reste que du bonheur

Le change évolue chaque jour, lors de mon séjour c'était de l'ordre de 1 € = 40 baths.
Si tu conais PHUKET alors ok, si tu y vas pour la première fois, sache que PATONG est quand même un lieu de résidence assez particulier,
Après il y a peut être des coins de PATONG assez tranquille mais sinon on se rapproche quand même du "concept" PATTAYA, si je me fais comprendre.
Ce n'est pas un jugement ou une critique mais une simple mise en garde pour le cas où tu ne conaîtrais pas PATONG.
je vais a patong 1 mois chaque annee connais assez bien et cela depend de ce que tu recherches .de notre cote nous sommes tres plage mais pas celle de patong trop bruyante et sale allons dans de jolie petites crique plongee balade decouverte plein de choses encore a decouvrir .

Mais qu'avez vous contre Pattaya !! Moi je suis résident depuis 3 ans 1/2, en retraite, la vie est très agréable ici, j'ai beaucoup d'amis Français qui demeurent à Pattaya, les émissions de TV en France ont passablement ternis notre ville.
Bien sur il y a des bars (gogo) mais on est pas obligé d'y aller, en temps que résident je n'y mets pas les pieds, et on a aussi de superbes plages, coté Satanip, Ko Lan, beaucoup de touriste Thaï de Bangkok le weel-end, et beaucoup de chose à voir aussi.
Bref je ne regrette pas d'avoir quitter la France et m'expatrier ici ou on a une qualité de vie inégalable !!!
comme je le disais je vais a patong depuis de nombreuses annees et m y trouve tres bien .c est vrai que le soir certaines rues sont bruyantes mais a nous de les evites .
par contre de belles plages tout autour de patong et beaucoup de chose a faire et a voire chaque annee rien n est pareil je ne prend pas de vacances l ete afin de pouvoir rester 1 mois l hiver peut etre cette annee j irais 1 semaine a pattaya ou me conseille tu de descendre si tu connais donne moi une adresse je serais la bas le 4 fevrier 2011 a 9 h 30

Je rentre moi aussi de 3 semaines, je souhaitai faire koh lipe mais après recherche sur internet je n'avais pas trouvé de bateau de koh lanta à koh lipe avant le 26 novembre

Il est dommage de se priver de la mer d'Andaman , les fonds y sont merveilleux même en snorkeling !

Je suis pas sûr qu'en octobre les liaisons existent régulièrement, je crois que cela démarre début novembre.
Quoiqu'il en soit : nous avons fait Koh Phi Phi - Koh Lipe de la manière suivante : Un ferry au départ de Koh Phi Phi direction Lanta, puis un speed boat de 53 places de Lanta à Lipe avec un stop de mémoire à koh Bulon. Le tout pour 300 bath jusqu'à Lanta, et 1 800 bath de Lanta à Lipe.
Au retour : Speed Boat de Lipe à Pakbara, puis un mini-bus 12 places de Pakbara à Krabi où nous nous sommes arrêtés pour 900 bath.

Fort de votre expérience, pourriez vous nous passer quelques infos utiles pour notre prochain voyage destination Phuket le 15 janvier 2011 qui devrait durer 2 mois environ.Nous avons mon épouse et moi réservé quelques jours à Phuket centre de manière à pouvoir prospecter dans les environs pour trouver une location pour deux proche de la mer.La question, vaut'il mieux passer par une agence immobilière locale pour trouver un logement pas trop cher ou y a t'il d'autres options moins chers?

Je pense qu'il y a sur ce forum des gens beaucoup plus qualifiés que moi pour répondre à cette question j'ai peur de vous induire en erreur. Je vous suggère de démarrer un sujet sur ce thème et je suis sûr que des personnes comme Barbot ou chris.. vous répondront de manière efficace.
D'une manière très générale, et à mon avis, votre démarche est la bonne : commencer par louer à Phuket Town une chambre le temps de prospecter sur place, mais aussi visiter, négocier, ....A mon sens tout est assez simple (pour de la villégiature) en Thailande et vouloir régler les choses et surtout payer, depuis la France, n'est pas avantageux.

I’d love to get some feedback on our itinerary—it’s probably pretty basic! This is our second trip to Asia and our first to Indonesia. We have three kids aged 20, 18, and 12. We land in Jakarta at 4 PM, spend 3 nights/2 days there, then take the train to Yogyakarta for 3 nights/2 days, followed by the train to Surabaya for 2 nights/1 day, then the train to Bromo for 1 day/1 night, a private driver to Ijen for 2 nights/2 days, then on to Bali (Ubud) for 4 nights/3 days, followed by Gili Air for 3 nights/2 days, Senggigi (Lombok) for 2 nights, and finally 5 nights in Kuta. I’m considering cutting the 2 nights in Senggigi to just keep Kuta and extend it to 7 nights. In Lombok, I’m not sure how to get around since I’m not comfortable with scooters... Your thoughts on all of this, and any advice, are more than welcome—don’t hesitate!
For those wondering why cities like Jakarta and Surabaya: we don’t often get the chance to visit big Asian cities, so we wanted to include that discovery in our trip. The trains between Jakarta and Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Probolinggo are booked. The return flight from Lombok to Jakarta is also set. Accommodations are booked but flexible (same for the trains).

I didn’t plan to return to Thailand this year, but my health conditions mean it’ll be the best place for me to stay between two trips to India. The tourism setup there is so well-organized that it’s the most "comfortable" country for a short visit. Thailand feels too sanitized for my taste, and there’s too much religion, Buddha, and the King, but it’s still the best option given how my health has been evolving. I’d considered two weeks in ThaTon for hiking, but I got too sick from the burn-offs during my trips to the mountains around Chiang Rai. So I’m not sure where to go this year. Definitely not the sea, touristy spots, or the mountains with burn-offs...

In 1996, we crossed Vietnam from Saigon to Hanoi by motorbike—Minsk bikes we bought in Saigon. I haven’t been back since, and it seems like a lot has changed.
- We’re heading to the south (well, the north and center) with the family in July-August (3 people).
- Is the road network more developed now? Back then, there was only National Route 1 from south to north. I’m thinking of renting a car this time (no motorbike with the family—though in ’96, they had a Jawa sidecar for sale, and we hesitated… maybe it’s for the best).
- Is Halong Bay really something to avoid because of overtourism? Even back then, it was pretty crowded. Is there a less touristy alternative?
- We’ll be traveling from Hanoi down to Danang (the only city we didn’t stop in back in ’96). Even though it’s a bit overhyped in a Chinese-tourist kind of way (from what I’ve read), we’re only going for the beach—pure relaxation for 7 days. The beaches are stunning, and I know the South China Sea is warm like coffee.
- Then, we’ll visit Hoi An, where I stopped in ’96. It was already popular with backpackers back then, but no glowing boats or all the touristy fuss!
- After that, Hue, where I have great memories—it’s a beautiful city.
- And also the nature around Ninh Binh, followed by 2-3 days in Hanoi.
That’s the plan. I’d love to hear any tips to avoid mass tourism, and if anyone’s done this before:
- Is it possible to rent a car in Danang and drop it off in Hanoi?

I’m struggling to wrap up the end of my itinerary, even though it’s pretty straightforward (long but simple).
Last year, we did Malaysia (KL and the mainland + around Kuching).
Day 1 – Arrive in Kota Kinabalu early, stroll around town and hit the must-sees.
Day 2 – Excursion to Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, snorkeling at 3 islands.
Day 3 – Hike around Mount Kinabalu without summiting (450 per person, no way).
Day 4 – Poring Hot Springs + evening flight to Sandakan.
Day 5-6-7 – Kinabatangan River (still looking for the right guide).
Day 8 – Sepilok for the orangutans, the Sun Bear Centre, and Rainforest Discovery Centre.
Day 9 – Selingan, turtle island.
Day 10 – Head to Semporna.
Day 11-12-13-14 – Sipadan, Mabul, Kapalai.
Day 15 – Bohey Dulang.
Day 16 to Day 25: I’M STUCK.
I looked into Danum Valley, but for 3 days/2 nights, they’re quoting 650 € per person—come on, that’s ridiculous.
I checked out a detour into Indonesia (still East Borneo), but I’m having trouble deciding what would be amazing.
I read about Sangalaki + Kakaban (2 islands, 1 base) / Mahakam Delta - Kutai (orangutans and river) / Sungai Boh (Dayak Kayan) – jungle & culture.
But honestly, I’m struggling to finalize this itinerary.
If we venture that way, we’d head back to KK from Balikpapan.
For a 4-month stay in Egypt, I had ENORMOUS problems. The regulations are very bureaucratic and extremely nitpicky there. For a 4-month stay in the Philippines, I was wondering if the procedures are just as complicated? I’m bringing my cell phone with an eSIM. Should I choose a plan from Canada for use in the Philippines, or should I get a plan only once I arrive? After 30 days, do I renew with the Canadian provider I chose before leaving, or do I switch to a local company? Do I need to register my phone with the authorities in the Philippines? (That was the case in Egypt.) For the 3rd and 4th months, will it be just as simple—renewing with a Canadian or local provider—or should I expect problems?

We’re heading to Vietnam as a family on July 8th for a little over 3 weeks (north and center). We’ve only booked the first 3 nights in Hanoi, and nothing else after that. We like to decide things on the spot and go with the flow, without rushing everywhere. But I’m still a bit unsure: when heading down to the center (Hue), is it better to book the overnight trains in advance? We don’t want to take any flights while we’re there—just use the overnight train for the long trips. But I’m worried we won’t get seats if we buy the tickets on the spot, say, 2 days before. What do the experts here think? And which website can we use to book the tickets? Thanks in advance for your tips!

No app for this one—you just hop on bus #14 at the local terminal (pay cash on board). But where do I catch it, and where’s the stop??

From what I’ve heard, it’s the Sida Express company (great name, right? 😄).
Can’t book online, but apparently, you *have* to because there’s only one bus at 8 AM.

Any advice? I was thinking of Malaysia or Indonesia, like Sulawesi, for example (all countries and islands in Southeast Asia interest me except Bali).

My girlfriend and I booked our tickets with Saudia Airlines for a trip to Thailand this summer, from July 5th to August 3rd. Given the geopolitical situation in the Middle East, we’re keeping a close eye on the news.
I was wondering if anyone here is in the same situation as us?
• Have you heard anything about possible mass cancellations or if the airline is still maintaining its routes to Asia?
• Are there any travelers who’ve recently returned who could tell us if air corridors have been changed (longer flight times)?
