Hi there, What are your thoughts on ryokan in Kinosaki?

Which one can you recommend for us with breakfast and dinner included?

This is for 3 nights in October.

Budget = great value for money.

Thanks for all your replies,

Jean

Personally (but this is just my opinion), I wouldn’t recommend three consecutive nights in a ryokan, especially in Kinosaki. The appeal of a ryokan is relaxing in a pleasant place, enjoying the baths and dinners (less so the breakfasts, which, if they’re Japanese, can be a bit unusual). So, one night is great, two is still okay, but three seems like a lot—especially since Kinosaki is really all about the baths. Unless you plan to take a bath 4 or 5 times a day for 3 days, I don’t see the point...

Hi, We stayed one night at Onoshiya Suishoen. I chose it because it has parking and we were in a rental car. I don’t have experience with other ryokan to compare, but we were happy with it—the welcome was very pleasant, and a lady accompanied us to explain everything. You get a pass to visit the other onsens, and they have a driver who takes you there and picks you up, though it’s within walking distance. However, we didn’t eat there because they were hosting a group, if I understood the commotion we heard in the dining room. That actually let me have the baths all to myself for a while. The rooms are VERY large by Japanese standards, and there was a mini kitchenette with a microwave, kettle, and cups. We had dinner at a restaurant by the canal and bought supplies for a simple breakfast in the room. So, you might want to check about meals—I’m not sure if we just happened to be there on a special night. The place isn’t right by the canal, so it’s a little less picturesque, but that was the trade-off for parking. I’ll admit I wouldn’t spend 3 days in Kinosaki, even though it’s very pretty—you see everything pretty quickly.

Hi there, I can confirm that two days is more than enough to really enjoy all the facilities in Kinosaki. I describe my experience here, and I also talk about the ryokan where we spent the night. https://www.soleilrouge.org/kinosaki-onsenonsenonsen

Hi there,

I’m reviving this older thread because we’re planning to visit Kinosaki Onsen for 2 days in November 2025. We’ll be arriving from Kyoto in late morning (around a 2.5-hour train ride).

We were thinking of enjoying the baths in the afternoon and evening, then visiting Izushi (which seems accessible by bus) the next day.

Do you think it’s worth it, or would it be better to spend just the afternoon and evening in Kinosaki?

The main idea was to stay in one place for 2 nights so we don’t have to keep changing accommodations.

Thanks in advance for your feedback!
