Pet carrier size for in-cabin dog on Air Caraïbes

Hi there, we're flying with Air Caraïbes and bringing our dog—he'll be traveling in the cabin with us. The airline recommends a carrier size of 43×35×20 cm, but despite calling them several times, we can’t figure out if the 20 cm is the height or width, or if the carrier can be slightly larger. Thanks to anyone who replies and has flown with Air Caraïbes before!

Hi there,

Everything is explained here: https://www.aircaraibes.com/avant-voyage/demandes-particulieres/animaux

The bag must fit under the seat in front of you. So, the 20 cm refers to the height, which means no, in principle, the bag can’t be "a little bigger."

Hi,

Width and height don’t matter—they’re interchangeable. 20 cm seems unlikely; 23 cm is the usual minimum for anything that needs to fit under the seats. Besides, are there even 20 cm-sized bags sold commercially? 🤪 20 cm would only work for very small animals and would go against animal welfare rules.

20 cm seems unrealistic; 23 is the usual minimum standard for what needs to fit under the seats. Besides, are there even commercially available bags calibrated at 20 cm? 20 cm would only work for very small animals and would go against animal welfare regulations.

Hello, Air Caraïbes’ size rules for pets in the cabin, as stated in the link from my previous post:

"Only soft carriers not exceeding 5 kg (including the animal) on regional flights and 8 kg on transatlantic flights will be accepted. The following dimensions: 43 x 35 x 20 cm will be allowed."

I know, I checked before replying. But I find the implementation of such a requirement unrealistic and therefore unlikely. A 20 cm bag like that doesn’t exist, except for cages for very small animals... Which aren’t exactly "soft bags" either.

Hi,

Here’s the full text of Air Caraïbes’ conditions:

"Transport rules

Transport is not included in the baggage allowance. PETC (Pets in the Cabin) are not allowed at emergency exits. The bag must be placed under the seat, and the animal must not leave the bag under any circumstances. Rodents must be transported in rigid plastic crates or fiberglass crates. Cats and dogs in the cabin must travel in an approved pet carrier. As of 02/06/2023, passengers traveling with animals cannot book emergency exit seats and, in some cases, the first rows. Pet carriers are sold in pet stores and specialty shops. Only soft carriers weighing no more than 5 kg (including the animal) on regional flights and 8 kg on transatlantic flights will be accepted. The following dimensions: 43 x 35 x 20 cm will be allowed. An entry/exit territory exemption is mandatory for PETC on transatlantic flights to Saint-Martin (SXM). An entry/exit territory exemption is not required for PETC on inter-island flights from Saint-Martin (SFG) to Pointe-à-Pitre (PTP)/Fort-de-France (FDF) and vice versa." End of quote. Note: Given the other two dimensions (43 x 35), since the bag must fit under the seat in front, the 20 cm can only refer to the height for the animal in the carrier. Best regards,

Hi! The size could be 35 cm in height and 20 cm in width, which would fit most bags better.
