Bus transport from Nafplio and Olympia

Hi there, I’m planning to travel by bus during my stay in Greece, mainly in November. Since I’ll be spending a few days in Nafplio, is it easy to get to Olympia by bus, or is it better to take a guided tour from Nafplio? It’s not ideal, but it would be my only option to see the site. Also, since I want to go to Delphi, is it possible to take public transport, staying one night in Olympia and leaving from there the next day for Delphi? That would save me from having to go back to Athens. If anyone has already done this route, I’d love to hear about your experience. Thanks!

Hi André

You can't do Olympia from Nafplio in a single day. Travel agencies will offer you a multi-day tour, and it's usually quite rushed. I found an excursion from Nafplio that covers Mycenae, Epidaurus, Olympia, Delphi, and Meteora in 4 days... I don’t really see the point, though, because in the end, you’ll only be skimming these sites.

Doing it on your own is doable but time-consuming because of all the bus changes. I had the opposite issue in Quebec—I wasn’t comfortable driving there at all! But keep in mind that thousands of tourists rent cars in Greece every year without any problems.

Good luck!

Thanks again for your reply. Should I rent a car specifically for the Nafplio-Olympia trip, just for the day, or maybe I could put out a call and share the cost of private transport with one or more travelers? I’ll give it a try and see how it goes. Otherwise, renting will be the solution. Thanks again!😊
