Hi everyone,

I’m planning a trip around Italy using only trains or public transport in October (hoping the weather stays nice!).

I’d obviously like to see some tourist destinations, but I also want to get off the beaten path a bit, and I’m hoping to find some help here? I don’t plan to linger too long in the cities.

Starting in the north, I’d like to visit Lake Como or Lake Orta, pass through the Cinque Terre for some hiking, spend a few days in Naples and Rome, then head down to Sicily.

Hi everyone, I wanted to take the Paris-Berlin overnight train with a sleeper berth, the new service operated by European Sleepers.

24/05/2026 17:45 Paris-Nord (actually 16:00 from Paris Bercy Seine) -> 25/05/2026 9:59 (actually 7:30 in Berlin) 05/06/2026 18:31 Berlin (actually 20:00) -> 06/06/2026 10:00 Paris Nord (actually 12:30) Part of the journey was operated by bus instead of the promised overnight train.

For 2 people: 340 € round trip

A total disaster. Never again. I was really looking forward to taking the overnight train, but we faced last-minute changes and truly unpleasant travel conditions. Here are the details:

1) 2 days before departure: email announcing a change of departure station for the outbound trip—Bercy Seine bus station instead of Gare du Nord. 2) Change of schedule: 4:00 PM from Bercy instead of 5:45 PM from Gare du Nord. 3) Change of transport mode!! A bus from Paris to Brussels, then an overnight train from Brussels to Berlin. No functional toilets on the bus. No children under 4 allowed on the bus. 4) On the sleeper train at 9:30 PM: no functional toilets in our carriage, so we had to go to other carriages, even in the middle of the night, to find working ones. 5) The onboard staff, though very friendly, were as lost as we were. In particular, they didn’t know how to handle the lower berths, so people using them had less space (armrests and backrests). Berth numbers weren’t respected, so some passengers had to move. The staff also didn’t know who was supposed to join the compartment during the journey. 6) Arrival at 7:30 AM in Berlin instead of 10:00 AM. No arrival announcement. Passengers had to search for staff to get breakfast and ended up with just a coffee (breakfast = 15 €, not bad for just a coffee). 7) Return trip: drastic schedule change announced by email on 26/05/2026—departure at 7:30 PM instead of 6:30 PM, with arrival between 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM in Paris instead of 10:00 AM. No change in transport mode announced. 8) Change in transport mode announced by email on the same day (05/06/2026)!! Overnight train from Brussels to Berlin, then a bus from Paris to Brussels. No functional toilets on the bus. Children under 4 banned from the bus, and families in this situation were asked to find another way—after being notified the same day. 9) The overnight train arrived at Berlin station with a 30-minute delay on top of its initial delay (scheduled for 6:31 PM, then 7:30 PM, finally arriving at 8:00 PM). The heating was blasting in the compartment with no way to turn it off. No functional toilets in the carriage. From that point on, customer service stopped responding to my messages. 10) Woken up at 5:00 AM with an announcement in all carriages about arrival in Liège. 11) Woken up again at 6:00 AM to be told we’d arrive in Brussels at 7:00 AM. 12) Arrival in Brussels at 7:00 AM and a one-hour wait for the bus to Paris. No functional toilets on the bus. 13) Arrival at Paris Nord at 12:30 PM, so 2.5 hours late compared to the originally scheduled time. 14) The overnight trains used are very old—I recognized the carriages from 20 years ago!! No functional power outlets, no Wi-Fi, no air conditioning. Five people per compartment is a bit cramped, but I consider these conditions expected (especially the air conditioning), so I’m not complaining about that. There’s already plenty to gripe about with the travel conditions.

I have little hope of getting even a partial refund. Customer service emails acknowledge the discomfort but only offer to reimburse the cost of a coffee on board if we send them the receipt... a bit weak.

I’m sharing this experience in the hope it might help others.

We’re planning this *very* last-minute—I know! But we’d love to spend 4 days soon (within the next 10–12 days) on a city getaway with our young adult kids. Ideally by train, and for this short trip, we’d prefer not to spend more than 4–6 hours in transit, leaving from Lausanne (Switzerland). We’ve been considering Milan, Strasbourg, or Freiburg im Breisgau, but I’ll admit I’m feeling a bit lost...

Venice was our original plan, but the connection changes in Domodossola or Milan are making the travel time longer this year.

It’s peak summer, so there’ll be tourists and it’ll likely be hot, but oh well...

Any suggestions? We love wandering around, taking photos, exploring cities on foot, trying out restaurants, and keeping things low-key.

Hi everyone, my husband and I are planning a night-train trip in September: first to Vienna (3 nights), then Budapest (2 nights), Bratislava (1 night or skip it?), Salzburg (1 night), Munich (1 night), and maybe Stuttgart (1 night) before heading back to Paris. The whole trip will be by train.

Hi, We're taking the train between Brussels - Rotterdam - Amsterdam, likely an Eurocity. I'm wondering if there's a limit on luggage (number of suitcases and size). Another question: on the Rotterdam -> Brussels route, it seems there aren't any trains on Saturday afternoons. Do trains run frequently on Saturdays and maybe Sundays in the Netherlands? Hi, I’m planning an 11-day trip in Castile, visiting Madrid, Toledo, Segovia, Ávila, and Salamanca, with train travel. But for Toledo-Segovia and then Segovia-Salamanca (or Ávila), there’s no direct train—the shortest route means going back through Madrid. So, I was wondering if the Toledo-Madrid train arrives at the same station as the Madrid-Segovia train, and the same question for Segovia-Madrid and then Madrid-Salamanca (or Ávila). Thanks in advance for any info—I haven’t been able to find this anywhere.

Hi, I’m planning a ski trip to Zermatt in February. I’ve heard there’s a Milan–Zermatt train that crosses the mountains in about 2h30. Is that right, and is it a scenic route?

La faute au Corona, je ne trouve pas de vol direct pour Florence en octobre. Je vais donc prendre un billet pour Bologne. Quelqu'un sait-il si depuis l'aéroport, on peut aller en train directement à Florence ou faut il déjà rejoindre la gare centrale de Bologne avant de prendre un train pour Florence ?

Je compte prendre un vol de Paris, m'envoler pour l'Italie et une fois sur place m'y déplacer en train. Je pensais atterrir à Venise , rejoindre les Cinq Terres puis terminer par la côte (retour par avion de Naples) mais il semblerait que le trajet Venise<-->Cinq Terres ne soit pas de tout repos en train (plusieurs changement). Est-ce que ceux qui ont une bonne connaissance du réseau ferroviaire italien peuvent me dire s'il est préférable de faire un V soit:

atterrir au nord (Cinq Terres ou Venise ?) descendre sur la côte almafitaine puis remonter vers la région qui n'aura pas été faite en 1 (le billet d'avion du retour dépendant bien sûr de cette dernière) ?

Sachant que quelque soit le tronçon envisagé, il y en a pour +5h, peut-être qu'il y a moyen d'optimiser le circuit en remplaçant le train par un vol interne sur l'un des parcours sans trop faire exploser le budget ?

Je suis très surpris car le site internet de cette compagnie fait état que de un seul horaire au quotidien dans le sens aller entre Catane Borgo et Riposto et autant pour le retour. Par ailleurs des internautes précisent qu'il y a plusieurs allers et retours au quotidien. Qui pourrait me communiquer tous les horaires accessibles en septembre prochain au départ de Catane Borgo jusqu'à Riposto faisant mention de toutes les gares du parcours ? Sincères remerciements.

Nous cherchons à faire des randonnées et nous ne possèdons pas le permis. Avez-vous des idées de coin accessible en transport en commun qui valent le coup d'oeil ?

Petite précision : nous ne faisons pas d'itinérance, mais de longues randonnée d'une journée ne nous dérange pas du tout !

Qui a déjà traversé l'Europe en train en utilisant un pass Interrail ou tout autre?

Bonjour/Bonsoir, Voilà avec des amis (16/17ans) nous aimerions partir en Espagne et à Pamplona pour revoir des amis Espagnol. Le problème c'est qu'il n'y a pas de trajet "simple" pour y aller (ex : train direct Bordeaux - Pamplona), alors je viens ici pour vous demander de l'aide si certain connaissent. En sachant que le départ de Bordeaux ne serait possible qu'à partir de 10h30 car nous devons déjà prendre un train pour nous rendre à Bordeaux. Donc est-il possible de faire ce voyage en une seule journée ? Si oui j'attend vos itinéraires. Merci à vous de prendre le temps de me répondre.

Sur le site de la Deutsche Bahn, je n'arrive plus à obtenir des propositions trajets incluant les vélos. Il me semblait que le site parvenait toujours à mettre en valeur les enchaînement de TER ou Intercités pour proposer des trajets vélo-compatibles.

Voilà la page qui apparaît systématiquement. Là, j'ai cherché entre Morlaix et Paris. Ça m'est arrivé pour d'autres trajets récemment.

Ou il n'y a vraiment aucun TER qui arrive à Paris depuis l'ouest ? Ou j'utilise peut-être mal le site. Ou il a perdu de sa superbe.

je suis en train d'envilliser un voyage ferroviaire vers l'est (Milan-Téhéran).

J'ai une question sur le Vienne-Belgrade, dont la circulation est pour l'heure interrompue because travaux sur la voie entre Belgrade et Budapest, et donc pas moyen de voir ses arrêts. Quelqu'un qui aurait fait ce parcours saurait-il me dire si ce train s’arrête à Subotica ? Bizarrement, le site des trains serbes est d'ailleurs muet sur la liaison Subotica-Belgrade.

Un bon exemple. Au Grand Duché Du Luxembourg a partir de demain les transports en communs sont gratuit. Si vous aller dans la rubrique vélo vous verrez qu'ils sont gratuit sur les trains.

Bonjour, Nous allons être rapatrié eu Europe par Londres. Arrivons à Londres vers 9h30 (environ) L'eurostar est à 11h30 pour Paris. Cela est il jouable sachant qu'il n'y a qu'un eurostar par jour De plus, faut il réserver à l'avance? (sont ils complet?) Car je suppose qu'il n'y a pas de remboursement si on le rate... Merci

Nous souhaiterions partir en ce futur mois de juillet (si tout va bien) et de préparer ce voyage va m'aider a supporter le confinement.

Le but est de partir en avion pour un des pays baltes, de les faire tous les trois (LITUANIE, LETTONIE, ESTONIE) et ensuite prendre le ferry à TALLINN pour HELSINKI et rejoindre le train pour ST PETERSBOURG pour arriver à la gare de Finlande ....

Des conseils, des suggestions, afin de ne rien laisser au hasard.

Et au retour peut-être revenir par MOSCOU et KIEV ou bien MINSK et VARSOVIE ....

Est-ce que la 1ère classe en vaut vraiment la peine.

Bonjour à vous Cet été nous continuons l EV 6 au départ de Ratisbonne et jusqu'à Belgrade. Certains ont ils des avis à nous donner sur: - le retour en train de la Serbie vers l Allemagne. Les trains prennent ils les vélos? - la distance kilométrique, le dénivelé, la qualité de la route - il y a t il de nombreux campings? - par expérience avez vous des conseils à nous donner?
