Que me conseiller ? emplacement et hotel eventuellement.

les 2 sont bien. Mais je prendrais plutôt Union Square, tu as une position plus centrale et tu seras proche de tout.
A SF tu utilise les transports en commun qui desservent très bien tous les endroits à visiter.
Tu as le Cable Car qui passe devant Union Square, le Bart sur Market St à 5mn et les bus partout.

j'ai séjourné deux nuits à san francisco en juin 2007. M^me si j'adore le quartier de fisherman wharf au bord de l'eau, les hôtels sont très chers (150 à 200 $ la nuit), et vous êtes un peu loin des quartiers de pacific heights et union square; je vous conseillerai plutôt un hôtel à union square, vous pouvez allez à l'hôtel bijou 111 mason street, bel hôtel dont chaque chambre porte le nom d'un film tourné à san francisco
je vous souhaite un bon voyage dans cette ville époustouflante !

si vous aimez les quartiers glauques qui se remplissent de junkies et de sdf à la nuit tombée, prenez union square et ses alentours. Si vous voulez un quartier ou vous promener tranquillement le soir, allez ailleurs. Hayes valley inn ou San remo hotel par ex.

Concernant les hotels à SF et leur emplacement (stratégique) j'ai bien aimé le Confort Inn situé à l'angle de Van Ness et Lombard Street. Nous y avons passé 4 nuits en 2007 et y retournons cette année. Bonnes prestations hotelières, arrêt de bus devant la porte, taxis fréquents. Cet hôtel est à mon avis très bien situé pour partir à la découverte de SF à pied. Bon, les rues de SF dans ce coin montent et descendent beaucoup mais les ballades sont superbes.
Pour les tarifs, +/- 125 usd + parking 25usd/24h00.

Franchement, rien à redire, accueil très sympa, chambre spacieuse et confortable, parking gratuit et ils s'arrangent pour que vous puissiez vous y garer si il n'y a apparement pas de place. Il est situé à l'est de Lombard Street, , qui me semble être un bon point de départ pour visiter SF.

j'ai séjourné à SF en juin 2008 sur Powell St près d' Union Square, je n'y ai pas trouvé plus glauque qu'ailleurs.
Pour les SDF, ils sont moins prèsents de nuit qu'en journée.
Bien sûr si on prend les petites rues, je ne dis pas .... Mais quoi faire dans ces petites rues
Se ballader sur Geary, O'Farell et Market n'est pas plus dangereux que Fisherman.
Et de Fisherman, il va falloir crapahuter un peu pour aller du côté d'Union ou Chinatown ...

Mouais, mais franchement, quel intérêt de se ballader le soir dans ce coin là (même la journée) ? Quel charme recelle ce secteur de la ville, (à part Chinatown dont on a quand même vite fait le tour) ? T'es pas trop loin de tout mais tu n'es réellement nulle part (ouh, je suis pas sûr qu'on me comprenne, là...). Mieux vaut, selon moi, se loger dans un quartier vraiment sympa et agréable que dans ce coin sans trop d'intérêt. D'autant qu'à SF, ce sont les petites rues qui sont intéressantes (du côté du haight ashbury notamment)... Et pour se déplacer dans la journée, tu as les transports en commun, donc, où que tu sois ça ne change guère.

j'ai trouvé le coin pas plus mal que Fisherman, qui est quand même assez restreint comme quartier.
Mais tu as raison, cela importe peu vu la foison de systèmes de transport sur SF.

J'ai séjourné au Holiday Inn, près de Fisherman's Wharf. La chambre donnait sur le Pacifique, avec vue sur Alcaraz. A moins de 5 minutes à pied de Pier 39.
Très bon hôtel et prix correct.

Je cherche aussi un hotel pour aout. J'ai trouvé le Grant sur Bush street, qui a une bonne évaluation sur trip advisor. Est ce dans le quartier de Union square ? Je crois que oui. Et sur ce quartier, les avis semblent partagés! Le San Rémo, dont parle JDakota semble bien mais WC et salles de bain dans le couloir, personellement, je préfère une douche dans la chambre.

salut, le "GRANT" se trouve en limite de chinatown mais je n'y ai pas séjourné.Le " SAN REMO" se trouve près de fisherman's wharf dans un coin calme, en tout cas il est assez réputé.Chacun donne" SA" préférence, ce qui fait trois cent mille avis, moi à chaque fois que j'y vais je descent au " COLUMBUS MOTOR INN "sur columbus avenue près de fisherman's wharf.

UNION SQUARE :très jolie place avec tout autour une multitude de magasins tous plus chicos les uns que les autres.Les " sdf " ne sont pas là, ils sont un peu plus loin sur " market st ".A coté il y a le "financial district (que des bureaux) et "market st "oû il y a quelques magasins(un peu plus d'jeunes)mais qui fait parti de financial district aussi.Donc le soir ça le fait moyen bof.
FISHERMAN'S WHARF :plein plein plein de restos et de magasins ( attrape touriste, c'est sûre c'est pas du même acabit) beaucoup plus familiale comme ambience.Beaucoup de quartiers et promenades accessibles à pied.
Pour les transports en commun, égalité puisque toute la ville est extremement bien désservie. Voilà faites vôtre choix messieurs dames. Un autre quartier est très animé avec plein de restos sympas, cest "MARINA ". Des coins ou se poser ? Tu parles de dormir ou de te ballader ? Si c'est de te ballader, mes endroits préférés sont pacific heights, haigh et Telegraph hill (celle avec la coit tower au sommet). Pour dormir, moi cette année, j'ai choisi le Hayes valley inn (routard) qui me permettra d'aller piquer niquer le soir sur alamo square en regardant le soleil se coucher sur les painted ladies.

Je précise, je ne suis pas un grand fan de fisherman's. Moi, mon truc c'est Haigh ashbury et Telegran hill. Je suis juste surpris qu'on envoie toujours les forumeurs débutants se trouver un hôtel du côté du centre ville qui est vraiment, comme tu dis, "moyen bof" pour les ballades nocturnes.

Re bonsoir, ce doit être le RED VICTORAN.je ne connais ce quartier le soir, il faudrait demander d'autres avis.Mais meme si il changé un peu, ça reste un quartier ""spécial""mais bon comme on dit l'habit ne fait pas le moine et ce n'est pas ceux qui effraie le plus qui sont les plus méchants.Sinon c'est un chouette quartier à visiter, quantité de nmaisons magnifiques ne pas hésiter à aller dans les rues adjacentes, on peut même trouver une carte des célébritées qui ont vécues dans le quartier.La grande majorité des magasins n'ouvrent qu'a 11h30-midi, à ne pas manquer un magasin de disques d'occase GGIIGGAANNTTEESSQQUUEE "AMOEBIA".Bye, marc.

je ne connais pas du tout la ville et j'ai bcp de mal à y voir très clair dans ce qu'il y a y voir, les liaisons entre les différents quartiers, le relief (!)...
je précise que ce seront mes premiers nuits aux USA pour ma première visite dans ce pays, donc un truc "accessible au grand public" me va très bien ; pour les petits coins de connaisseur, ce sera la prochane fois 😉

Pour une première approche, tu peux suivre les conseils du routard californie 2009, pour le logement comme pour la visite des quartiers. N'hésite pas à aller voir mes photos de 2007, comme elles sont légendées tu pourras choisir les coins qui t'inspirent. SF est une ville qui se visite à pied et en transports en commun. Procures toi un forfait MUNI 3 jours, c'est pas cher et ça permet d'emprunter tous les transports de la ville, cable car compris.

Tout est là, si il s'agit d'une première visite de San francisco il est clair qu'à un moment il faut se lancer !! Beaucoup d'offres, dans beaucoup de coins sympas (ah, si l'on pouvait loger dans une des Painted Ladies !).
Placé devant le même dilemme en 2007 j'ai choisi Lombard Street sur sa portion proche de la Marina. Heureux choix qui m'a permis de découvrir tous les alentours à pied. Car SF, ça se visite à pied, en tout cas, beaucoup !!

Nous n'avons pas déjeuner à l'hôtel, préférant prendre un double expresso au Câble Car Coffee en plein air en grillant une cigarette 😠 ...., c'est à 50m de l'hôtel juste à côté du visitor center.

Je suis à la recherche également d'un hôtel pour mai à SFO.
En 2006, on avait été au Holiday Inn Golden Gateway... hors de prix aujourd'hui ! (surtout à nos dates, et surtout le mercredi soir... doit y avoir un truc !) 🤪
Là, j'hésite entre un motel tel que le Colombus Motor Inn (mais que je ne trouve pas spécialement bon marché ! 465 $ pour 3 nuits + ~70$ de taxes= 535 $ TTC) avec parking gratuit... ou un hôtel dans Japantown (~455 $ TTC) avec parking au JapanCenter pour 15$ la journée...

et finir dans un hotel miteux-vue sur ruelle oui ! sinon on m'a conseillé lhotel Diva! c'est sur c'est pas 40$ la chambre mais bon la salle de bain est pas sur le palier !!! (on est à S.F autant se faire un ptit plaisir!)

Mais le prix n'est pas donné non plus : 540 $ TTC pour 3 nuits et le parking compris... (environ 40$ + cher que celui dans Japantown avec le parking (455 + 45$ pour 3 jours= 500$))
Attention à regarder les packages car sinon c'était 551 $ TTC pour 3 nuits et 35$/jour pour le parking 🤪
Bref, j'suis toujours pas décidée 😛

bonsoir, je ne connais pas le quartier de japantown mais si tu rajoute le prix du parking........
Certe le columbus n'est pas donné mais compte tenu de son emplacement(proche du holliday inn, sheraton, etc.....)il devient ""pas cher"" du tout.
Et puis on peut aller à pied à fisherman's, chinatown, la coït tower, etc.

je vis à seattle pour l'instant et ma fille voulait revoir San Francisco alors on vient de reserver au Radisson hotel Fisherman's Wharf qui est situé tout près du Pier 39 avec les transports à coté.
Tout cela pour ma fille qui voulait voir les Seal lion tous les matins et soirs.
Nous avons regardé sur Expedia.com et avons finalement opté de reserver directement sur le site de l'hotel ou ils font des prix selon les periodes et nous avons eu une chambre pour 4 avec le parking compris, ce qui est important vu le tarif des parkings dans les hotels.
Nous avons choisi ce coin, parce que union square ou market street est trop bruyant pour nous, et le prix des parkings prohibitifs.
Avons hésité avec le comfort inn, le sheraton, ou le hilton du meme coin mais l'emplacement du Radisson est vraiment génial pour nous.
J'avais oublié nous partons le 11 avril, il est vrai que les prix sont tres accessibles a cette époque, pas comme l'été.

et finir dans un hotel miteux-vue sur ruelle oui ! sinon on m'a conseillé lhotel Diva! c'est sur c'est pas 40$ la chambre mais bon la salle de bain est pas sur le palier !!! (on est à S.F autant se faire un ptit plaisir!)
Je ne vois pas le rapport 😇 On trouve aussi des 5* en promo sur Ratestogo. D'ailleurs ce sont rarement les hôtels pas chers qui restent à vendre !

On a profité d'une super promo à l'hôtel del Sol dans le quartier de la Marina (même si par goût on préférait trouver qq chose plus dans le style du San Remo).... Y a t-il des adresses sympas où sortir le soir dans la Marina (restos, cafés ...) sans reprendre les transports en commun ?

A SF le parking est un problème et si tu as une voiture, il faut en tenir compte dans le choix de l'hôtel même si tu te déplaces dans la ville par les transports en commun.
C'est pour cette raison que j'avais choisi, en juillet 2004, le Broadway Manor Inn 2201 Van Ness (à 20 mn à pied du Fisherman's Wharf) qui proposait un parking gratuit pour 113$ TTC sans breakfast mais avec un four, une cafetière et un frigo pour se le préparer soi-même.
Je suis allé sur leur site le prix est à 159$ HT et le parking est toujours gratuit.
Attention cependant : la nuit le parking est archi plein et il n'est possible de s'en échapper au petit jour que si on a placé sa voiture près de la sortie.

Nous avons organisé un voyage (couple retraité) fin août -première quinzaine de septembre dans l'ouest canadien.
Circuit classique : arrivée à Calgary, Banff, Jasper, Clearwater, Whistler, île de Vancouver, départ de Vancouver.
Je sais que vous ne lisez pas plus que moi dans la boule de cristal, aussi je ne vous demande évidemment pas quelle sera la situation au niveau des incendies dans un mois...
Mais si certains d'entre vous pouvaient me dire si, ACTUELLEMENT, il y a de grosses difficultés, non seulement pour les habitants, évidemment, mais pour les touristes ?
Nous hésitons en effet à tenter le coup ou à annuler ce qui peut encore l'être.
Nous ne sommes pas jeunes, et n'avons plus la flexibilité d'autrefois...

Stay from July 31 to August 26, 2026: Car rental – check, Hotels – check, Itinerary – almost check, Photo gear – check, Budget – check, 🤪 Meal planning – meh, we’ll see... Walmart, of course, for the cooler when we arrive.
And now, without too much detail...
Fort Worth: The Longhorns and the Stockyards; JR’s ranch (for the missus); Medal of Honor Museum – Arlington.
Houston and NASA Space Center: See the Gulf of Mexico/America.
San Antonio and the missions.
Fort Stockton for an overnight stop.
El Paso via Guadalupe Mountains: El Paso and White Sands.
Tucson and the Pima Air & Space Museum: Tombstone, Bisbee.
Phoenix:
Still working on the program.
Sedona: Round trip around the area via Flagstaff and Williams, or the Grand Canyon (already done) – we’ll decide on the spot.
Albuquerque: Santa Fe, Turquoise Trail, Los Alamos.
Amarillo via Route 66: Old Route 66 in the city; Big Texas Ranch Steak 😏.
Dallas: JFK Museum; Perot Museum; West End district.
And through it all – the road, the road, and more road!!!
We’ll adapt day by day based on our mental and physical state (we’re not exactly spring chickens).

We’ve already booked our accommodations and a rodeo in Cody, but during the day, we’ll be driving between the two and I’m unsure about the itinerary. Which route do you think is the most pleasant, interesting, or scenic between: - The northern route via Highway 14 with Sheridan, Lowell, etc. - The southern route with Highways 16/20/14, passing by Loaf Mountain Overlook, Powder River Pass, Ten Sleep Canyon...

We’ll be staying two nights in Monterey and would like to stop along the way to visit one side of Pinnacles National Park. We’re torn between the West entrance and the East entrance, and we’d like to do a short hike of no more than 2 hours since we don’t want to arrive too late in Monterey.
This park is split into two distinct zones with no connection between them, and the mileage from Coalinga to Monterey is pretty much the same for both. Which area do you recommend visiting—east or west? And which route is the most scenic?
I’ve spotted two short hikes: - East: Moses Spring to Rim Trail Loop - West: Balconies Cliffs Cave Loop

After our first trip as a young couple to the West in 2007 (yes, that doesn’t make us any younger!), we’re planning to go back in 2028, but this time as a family of four! (We have two boys who’ll be 5½ and 13 years old in the summer of 2028.)
Our plan is to combine a few big cities (SF and LA, maybe San Diego) with national parks and state parks, mostly! Ideally, we’d like to leave at the end of June and head back to France around July 19–20, so we can enjoy the first week of the Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
Since we already did the "loop" in 2007, there are must-see places we absolutely want to revisit—and especially share with our kids: Bryce Canyon, Yosemite, and above all, the Grand Canyon, which is still the most incredible thing I’ve ever seen on Earth!
On the other hand, some places didn’t leave a big impression on us for various reasons, so we’re not making them a priority: Antelope Canyon, Monument Valley, for example.
We’re planning ahead, but might as well be smart about it😏
Do you have any tips for a fun and doable itinerary over about 20–25 days with kids, without rushing?

Just a quick question about King Canyon and Sequoia National Park.
Before our night in Miramonte, we plan to visit King Canyon. The next stop will be two nights in Three Rivers to explore Sequoia National Park. I wanted to go all the way to Roaring River Falls on the King Canyon Scenic Byway and then turn back to head to Miramonte. Since we’re coming from Oakhurst, Google Maps says it’s 300 km and 5 hours of driving. Since we also want to hike to see the sequoias (Big Stump Area and Grand Grove) before tackling the King Canyon Scenic Byway, the timing’s going to be tight. How far do you recommend going before turning back to miss as few points of interest as possible on the King Canyon Scenic Byway? Thanks for your advice, and have a great evening!

I’d like to travel along I-15N from San Diego to Las Vegas with my mom, who’s 67. We’ve explored Northern California and the California Coast over the past two years and now want to continue through the desert.
There are several attractions along the way: - Mormon Rocks - Desert Discovery Center and visit the Old Woman meteorite - Joshua Tree National Park - Mojave Desert - Mojave National Preserve - Anza-Borrego Desert State Park - Silverwood Lake
My mom has back issues that prevent her from hiking or walking on trails with elevation changes. Is it possible to visit these places by car, or are the routes flat enough?
I’d love for her to experience the desert with an itinerary adapted to her condition. I’m also open to other points of interest that aren’t mentioned. We have 3-4 days for the trip, so we’re not in a rush—just want to explore.

My 16-year-old son is flying to Grand Rapids with other kids his age. There’s a layover in Detroit. There’s no unaccompanied minor service available. Is it pretty easy to navigate Detroit Airport to catch the connecting flight to Grand Rapids (domestic flight)? There are several of them who speak English well.

Hi there. I'm shocked by the price of the Upper Antelope Canyon tour—$175 for less than an hour… You might say, "if you can’t afford it…" But the real question is whether it’s really worth it, because $350 for two makes me feel like I’m getting ripped off. As you can see, we're heading back from September 6th to the 27th.
Everything’s booked for September—flights, accommodations, and the car. As I plan, I’ll be asking the experts for help. This is our second trip to California, but most of the stops are new to us.
We’ll start directly from San Francisco to our first overnight stop, Davis, before heading to Lassen Volcanic Park for 4 nights. Our flight lands at 12:50 PM.

I’m a total USA addict. I’ve already done several road trips, including the East Coast and West Coast. I’m here today because I’m planning to go back for another road trip on the West Coast. Possibly with one of my sisters and a couple of friends. It’s still just a plan for now, but I’m working on an itinerary in the meantime. Ideally, I’d leave in 2026, but I don’t have the exact dates yet—maybe April-May or September-October. My last trip to the West Coast was in September 2014. We went for 2 weeks, but this time it’d be 3 weeks. What made me want to go back was simply a colleague who just left today. As I’m writing this, he’s on the plane. I’m so happy for him, but now all I can think about is going back.
Since I recently went to NY, I noticed that prices have really gone up. I assume the same is true for the West Coast? For 2 people over 3 weeks, what budget should I expect? We’re the type to watch our spending and find great tips. I think we’ll arrive in San Francisco like the first time and leave from either Los Angeles or Las Vegas.

I assume many of you already know, but the America the Beautiful annual pass, which was $80, will increase to $250 starting January 1, 2026.
So if you're planning to travel before the end of December 2026, it's in your best interest to buy your pass in December 2025, since it will still cost $80 and be valid until the end of December 2026 if you purchase it in December 2025.
This price increase only applies to non-U.S. residents.
Additionally, for those who planned to visit just one park, a $100 surcharge per person will apply to access a list of 11 national parks... For example, if there are 4 of you in a car, you’ll have to pay $35 + $400, which comes to $435 to visit one of the 11 parks on the list (I don’t have all of them... Bryce, Zion, Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Grand Teton, etc.). Total madness.
The goal is to push people who only visit one park into buying the annual pass.
Last point: free entry days are over for non-residents!
