Dans le cas d'une réservation prépayée (donc déjà débitée), le montant figurant sur le site américain sous l'intitulé Amount due at counter représente le montant de la caution bloquée (et non débitée) par Alamo sur la CB, caution indispensable à la délivrance du véhicule.
Si on passe par le comptoir, ils font la même chose (caution) en prenant une empreinte de la CB.
Je suis dans le même cas que toi (réservation prépayée mais "amount due at counter" de la somme totale). J'ai donc échangé des mails avec Alamo France qui s'est renseigné auprès d'Alamo USA. Il semble que ce soit uniquement un bug d'affichage du site web Alamo.com quand on regarde sa réservation.
Alamo USA : This looks like an issue with the online check in site, the reservation looks perfect in terms of the prepaid amount but the check in website is showing it incorrectly.
Alamo France : Can I confirm to the customer he will not be debited anymore by the Branch ?
Alamo USA : You certainly can
Cependant, je ne ferai volontairementr pas de "Skip the counter", je préfère passer au desk pour vérifier que tout est réellement OK.

en francais en gros il me dit qu'en ayant pré payé on ne peut pas faire "skip the counter", ce dont je ne crois pas un mot, car pour la petite histoire, en février, j'ai payé une resa sur le site francais, et 2 jours apres j'ai suivi le lien dans mon mail de confirmation pour faire "skip the counter" comme ils me le proposaient....tout etait nikel, le montant a 0€ et tout et tout...
depuis, entre temps, j'ai annulé cette resa, pour en refaire une, avec un meilleur prix, mais je n'ai pas fait de suite skip the counter, me disant que j'avais le temps (depart en juin).
et là, voulant le faire la semaine derniere, soucis, le meme que vous autres, mais en passant par le site US (malgré ce soucis de montant inscrit dans la case a payer), j'ai bien recu mon mail de confirmation pour skip the counter...
alors, je vais quand meme tenter de faire comme ca, en arrivant a LAX, en mode "bêbête" lol, et si en effet ça ne marche pas, on ira faire la queue pour faire la procedure normale (j'aurais un peu les nerfs quand meme...)
mais comme je suis pas du genre a me contenter d'une seule reponse, d'un seul son de cloche, je vais poser aussi la question a Alamo france....

Quand tu utilises le "Skip the Counter" ;
Tu choisis ton véhicule et tu passes à la guérite ou un préposé valide le tout.
Tu reçois la facture du montant estimé , c'est le montant que tu as payé ou accepté en réservant.
Si le montant ne correspondait pas à la réservation, je ferais marche arrière avec la voiture pour aller au comptoir.
Le vol est trop important dans un voyage pour ne regarder que le prix.
Oui absolument lorsque je l'ai fait la semaine derniere dur le site US jai bien reçu le confirmation de skip the counter avec le code barre a faire scanner par l'agent a la sortie du parking.
Mais helas oui il ya la somme soit disant a payer en dollars...
Je ne sais pas trop quoi penser...bien en ie de tenter quand meme sur place en me faisant encore confirmer par l'agent de sortie que tout est OK

je reviens dans les échanges : peut-être que c'est ridicule, mais j'essaierais très sérieusement de régler le problème du total erroné AVANT de partir, quoi qu'il en soit pour Skip The Counter qui n'est pas le noeud du problème .
C'est quand même plus facile de faire çà tranquillement d'ici, par téléphone ou mail, en prenant le temps, que debout au comptoir, les bagages entassés dans un ou plusieurs caddy et les agents vous parlant un anglais rapide ... tandis que la file s'allonge derrière vous !
Ne me dites pas que çà ira, pas de stress ... : nous avons eu le cas à Miami et, bien qu'à la fin, tout se soit arrangé, c'était un très mauvais 1/4 heure !
J'ai rencontré ce "dysfonctionnement" en 2016 à LAX car je m'étonnais qu'avec une résa prépayée, un solde du montant initial de la location soit affiché.
Après échange de coups de téléphone, j'ai reçu, comme je l'avais demandé, un mail (on ne sait jamais) dont je te fais une copie:

Service à la clientèle Alamo Rent A Car
Le service clientèle d'Alamo est très courtois et réactif, ne pas hésiter à les contacter.
Le "Skip the counter" s'est déroulé normalement et j'ai même pu, avec une résa pour Santa Fé, bénéficier d'un Ford Explorer à l'équipement et au confort remarquables.
Lorsque j'ai remis le véhicule à Phoenix, le total sur le reçu final indiquait 0$.

Je n'arrive pas à faire le skip the counter depuis plusieurs jours. J'ai réservé directement sur le site Alamo.
J'ai essayé toutes vos méthodes mais rien ne fonctionne. J'ai testé avec différents navigateurs, en désactivant les bloqueurs pub... sans succès.
Sur le site ca, en français, en cliquant sur le bouton valider ça tourne en rond indéfiniment comme sur le 1er message de ce fil.
Sur le site ca en anglais ou sur le site .com j'arrive à entrer mes informations de paiement mais ensuite j'ai une erreur : Request method 'GET' not supported.
C'est la 1ere fois que j'ai ce souci avec Alamo.
D'autres ont-ils eu ce problème?
Moi, j'ai eu le problème en 2015 sur le site fr, mais problème résolu en changeant la langue (anglais)... Je ne l'ai pas encore fait cette année

J'ai choisi le paiement à payer à l'arrivée.
J'ai été jusqu'au bout de la réservation et j'ai reçu le mail de confirmation.
J'aurais voulu pouvoir utiliser Skip the Counter mais cette option n'est jamais apparue au cours du processus de réservation.
On ne m'a jamais demandé non plus un n° de carte de crédit.
Que faut-il que je fasse pour avoir accès à cette possibilité ?

En préalable , nous réservons d'ordinaire par Carigami, loueur Alamo ( prix les + intéressants , 3 fois de suite ) ; nous avons le n° de réservation sur le voucher que nous recevons et nous connectons sur le site d'Alamo .
Nous revoyons notre réservation et une option apparait : Skip the counter ' ; suivre les instructions et c'est tout . L'option n'apparait pas dans le déroulement de la résa , avant qu'elle ne soit concrétisée par la garantie d'une carte et le reçu du voucher .
Nous l'avons fait à Albuquerque , Miami et Atlanta et çà a très bien marché : gagné un temps précieux .
Dans votre cas , une chose m'étonne : 'On ne m'a jamais demandé non plus un n° de carte de crédit .' ???
De toute façon, si vous avez le n° , faites une recherche par Google : Alamo + 'Skip ... ' puis suivez les instructions avec le n° : çà devrait marcher !

C'est surtout pour ne pas faire une heure de queue au guichet après XX heures d'avion, je pense ...Il est quand même plus agréable de récupérer rapidement sa voiture et de se retrouver ...en vacances...

Alors pour cette année, c'est peut-être trop tard mais à savoir pour les prochaines fois : le skip the counter n'est possible que lorsque tu réserves directement chez Alamo. Et avec Alamo tu peux prépayer et y avoir accès! Après toutes les agences Alamo ne le proposent pas : Seules les grandes agences disposent de skip the counter , dans les petits aéroports, comme pour nous l'année dernière à Bozeman, il n'y a pas skip the counter, mais personne également dans la file d'attente 😉.

Avez - vous jamais attendu 2 heures, dans une file, pour avoir une voiture, puis passé encore 1 heure de discussion avec l'employé, non pour l'histoire habituelle des cartes de banque ( nous avions ce qu'il faut ! ) mais parce qu'il voulait nous fourguer avec suppl . , un gros break Volvo au lieu de ce que nous avions demandé et payé ???
Cela se passait, non aux US mais au Portugal .
Nous avons tenu bon mais j'ai bien cru ne jamais avoir de voiture ... et nos vacances ont mal démarré !
Donc l'intérêt du Skip the Counter si possible ...

Ce que tu écris là : "le skip the counter n'est possible que lorsque tu réserves directement chez Alamo " n'est pas correct : nous avons fait sans problème la fameuse procédure en ayant réservé, par Carigami ou Atoeurope, et de là Alamo .
Il suffit , comme expliqué dans mon post plus haut , de te connecter sur le site Alamo avec le n° de résa qui figure sur ton voucher ... et çà fonctionne .
Je vais d'ailleurs le refaire à l'instant, pour mi - septembre : si problème, je vous tiens au courant .
Bien sûr, cela dépend aussi de l'aéroport où on prend la voiture !

pour en terminer avec çà : nous avons loué chez Alamo pour Naples ( It ) en septembre : comme je le pensais ( !!! ) , je viens de faire le Check in On Line mais l'option Skip The Counter n'est pas disponible dans cette ville ...

Nous avons également une résa pour Oakland pour fin août par autoeurope chez ALAMO, et je viens d'essayer d'enregistrer en ligne, pour moi aussi çà ne fonctionne pas : ils demandent qu'en cas de problème il faut téléphoner.....

J ai contacté alamo USA qui sont très réactifs et m ont confirmé que lorsqu' on passe par autoeurope carigami ou autre et quand la réservation est déjà réglée, ils ont besoin qu' on passe au guichet pour empreinte de la cb donc le check in online ne m avancera pas trop...tant pis.

Si vous remontez un peu au debut de la discussion vous verrez ce que m'a repondu Alamo l'annee derniere lorsque je leur ai demandé si je pouvais faire Skip the counter malgré que j'avais deja tout reglé à l'avance sur le site internet d'Alamo.
Je n'ai pas "cru" leur reponse, et quand on est arrivé à Alamo à LAX on est allé voir les 2 personnes qui etaient à une petite guerite à la descente de la navette et elles m'ont dit oui oui vous vous debrouillez, allez choisir votre voiture en suivant les panneaux pr la categorie puis venez me demander les clefs.
chose faite en 5 min chrono, on est monté dans la voiture, on s'est dirigé vers la barriere de sortie, là, une dame a pris ma resa avec ecrit skip the counter et le meme montant "a payer" que j'avais DEJA payé par CB visa premier, elle a pris la cb en question + le permis de mon mari (il faut que le nom de la resa + celui de la cb + celui du permis soient le meme!) , j'ai encore demander pour le montant "a payer", elle m'a dit non rien a payé vous avez deja payé vous ne payerez pas 2 fois, en riant lol .
elle nous a ouvert la barriere, et .......welcome to L.A !!!!!!

on avait beaucoup d'angoisse pour ce moment, la prise de la voiture, mais au final, on a tout fait en 10 min, seuls au monde, personne ne nous a calculé, ni aidé sur place. ON est partis avec une voiture a 75000$ comme avec un velo mdr !

Hello everyone! Really damaged due to flooding caused by runoff after forest fires (a total mess!), does anyone in this friendly forum have any updates on the Apache Trail between Apache Junction and Roosevelt Dam? Is there still a section of the road that’s tough to navigate?
We're leaving at the end of June and will be driving the route between Buffalo and Cody. We’ve already booked our accommodations and a rodeo in Cody, but during the day, we’ll be driving between the two and I’m unsure about the itinerary.
Which route do you think is the most pleasant, interesting, or scenic between:
- The northern route via Highway 14 with Sheridan, Lowell, etc.
- The southern route with Highways 16/20/14, passing by Loaf Mountain Overlook, Powder River Pass, Ten Sleep Canyon...
We’ll be in a car, so we should be able to drive on any road.

I’m almost done planning our September road trip. After our 3-night visit to Sequoia, we’ll have a stopover night in Coalinga (to break up the drive). We’ll be staying two nights in Monterey and would like to stop along the way to visit one side of Pinnacles National Park. We’re torn between the West entrance and the East entrance, and we’d like to do a short hike of no more than 2 hours since we don’t want to arrive too late in Monterey.
This park is split into two distinct zones with no connection between them, and the mileage from Coalinga to Monterey is pretty much the same for both. Which area do you recommend visiting—east or west? And which route is the most scenic?
I’ve spotted two short hikes:
- East: Moses Spring to Rim Trail Loop
- West: Balconies Cliffs Cave Loop
Has anyone been there, or do you have another hike to suggest?

After our first trip as a young couple to the West in 2007 (yes, that doesn’t make us any younger!), we’re planning to go back in 2028, but this time as a family of four! (We have two boys who’ll be 5½ and 13 years old in the summer of 2028.)
Our plan is to combine a few big cities (SF and LA, maybe San Diego) with national parks and state parks, mostly!
Ideally, we’d like to leave at the end of June and head back to France around July 19–20, so we can enjoy the first week of the Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
Since we already did the "loop" in 2007, there are must-see places we absolutely want to revisit—and especially share with our kids: Bryce Canyon, Yosemite, and above all, the Grand Canyon, which is still the most incredible thing I’ve ever seen on Earth!
On the other hand, some places didn’t leave a big impression on us for various reasons, so we’re not making them a priority: Antelope Canyon, Monument Valley, for example.
We’re planning ahead, but might as well be smart about it😏
Do you have any tips for a fun and doable itinerary over about 20–25 days with kids, without rushing?

Just a quick question about King Canyon and Sequoia National Park.
Before our night in Miramonte, we plan to visit King Canyon. The next stop will be two nights in Three Rivers to explore Sequoia National Park. I wanted to go all the way to Roaring River Falls on the King Canyon Scenic Byway and then turn back to head to Miramonte. Since we’re coming from Oakhurst, Google Maps says it’s 300 km and 5 hours of driving. Since we also want to hike to see the sequoias (Big Stump Area and Grand Grove) before tackling the King Canyon Scenic Byway, the timing’s going to be tight. How far do you recommend going before turning back to miss as few points of interest as possible on the King Canyon Scenic Byway? Thanks for your advice, and have a great evening!

We’ll be alternating between house swaps, motels, and campgrounds. I’ve booked all the accommodations (except the campground at Bryce since sunset bookings open only 14 days in advance) and the first activities, as well as the most touristy ones.
I’m currently putting together my day-by-day roadbook and having some trouble planning certain days, like in LA or Las Vegas. Choosing hikes isn’t easy either—it’s tough to decide!

I’d like to travel along I-15N from San Diego to Las Vegas with my mom, who’s 67. We’ve explored Northern California and the California Coast over the past two years and now want to continue through the desert.
There are several attractions along the way:
- Mormon Rocks
- Desert Discovery Center and visit the Old Woman meteorite
- Joshua Tree National Park
- Mojave Desert
- Mojave National Preserve
- Anza-Borrego Desert State Park
- Silverwood Lake
My mom has back issues that prevent her from hiking or walking on trails with elevation changes. Is it possible to visit these places by car, or are the routes flat enough?
I’d love for her to experience the desert with an itinerary adapted to her condition. I’m also open to other points of interest that aren’t mentioned. We have 3-4 days for the trip, so we’re not in a rush—just want to explore.
I’d love to take a road trip and visit Nova Scotia. I’d appreciate some info on the best cities to see and the most interesting spots. The trip should last about 10 to 15 days, staying in hotels or motels. Thanks in advance!

Is it pretty easy to navigate Detroit Airport to catch the connecting flight to Grand Rapids (domestic flight)? There are several of them who speak English well.

We’d like to walk to Eagle Falls and then Eagle Lake. I’ve spotted two parking lots that seem close to each other and give access to the trailhead. Where and how do we pay for entry to Emerald Bay State Park and Inspiration Point?
**Viewpoints on the East Side:**
Are most of the viewpoints (Balancing Rock, Granite Cave, Bonsai Rock, etc.) right by the road, or do you have to hike to reach them?
**Donner Memorial State Park:**
Is it worth making a detour to Truckee to visit this park and the Truckee historic downtown?

I’ve read there are trails to access the trailheads for Cinder Cone (11 km) and Warner Valley. Are these easy trails for an SUV?

I’m a total USA addict. I’ve already done several road trips, including the East Coast and West Coast.
I’m here today because I’m planning to go back for another road trip on the West Coast. Possibly with one of my sisters and a couple of friends. It’s still just a plan for now, but I’m working on an itinerary in the meantime. Ideally, I’d leave in 2026, but I don’t have the exact dates yet—maybe April-May or September-October.
My last trip to the West Coast was in September 2014. We went for 2 weeks, but this time it’d be 3 weeks. What made me want to go back was simply a colleague who just left today. As I’m writing this, he’s on the plane. I’m so happy for him, but now all I can think about is going back.
Since I recently went to NY, I noticed that prices have really gone up. I assume the same is true for the West Coast? For 2 people over 3 weeks, what budget should I expect? We’re the type to watch our spending and find great tips.
I think we’ll arrive in San Francisco like the first time and leave from either Los Angeles or Las Vegas.

I assume many of you already know, but the America the Beautiful annual pass, which was $80, will increase to $250 starting January 1, 2026.
So if you're planning to travel before the end of December 2026, it's in your best interest to buy your pass in December 2025, since it will still cost $80 and be valid until the end of December 2026 if you purchase it in December 2025.
This price increase only applies to non-U.S. residents.
Additionally, for those who planned to visit just one park, a $100 surcharge per person will apply to access a list of 11 national parks...
For example, if there are 4 of you in a car, you’ll have to pay $35 + $400,
which comes to $435 to visit one of the 11 parks on the list (I don’t have all of them... Bryce, Zion, Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Grand Teton, etc.).
Total madness.
The goal is to push people who only visit one park into buying the annual pass.
Last point: free entry days are over for non-residents!

We just finished 9 days in the American West and wanted to share our experience because we had an amazing time.
I know some of you might ask, why use an agency? Honestly, we didn’t really feel like doing all the driving and planning, especially since we didn’t know the area at all. And since our English isn’t great, having French-speaking guides was a big comfort.
We found Emmanuelle and Isabelle, and wow, they were fantastic. It was just the two of us with them, so it was a truly VIP, ultra-personalized experience. They treated us like royalty from start to finish. These two live in Las Vegas and know the region like the back of their hand. The service was really personalized. They adapted to our pace and preferences, and we could stop whenever we wanted to take photos. It’s the luxury of being in a small private group—you’re not just a number on a big bus.
In short, we really felt like we were traveling with friends rather than professional guides. Everything’s included in the price (hotel pickup, meals, park entries, etc.), so the value for money is fair.
We loved it so much that we’re already planning to come back next year to explore other areas with them. I think we’ve caught the American West bug—it’s all we can think about, and we can’t wait to return.
