Ugh, after all the hassle of searching, I see that the illuminations stop at 11 PM.

That’s gonna be too late! The info isn’t that easy to find on-site—there was NOTHING marked.

Honestly, it hasn’t been a great day apart from visiting Stein am Rhein.

And with the heat coming up in the next few days, I think it’ll be a bit ruined.

I'm trying to figure out why the parking app wasn't working. It's Easy Park. I couldn't register my credit card. I checked—I did use the correct internet payment code (I have to enter a code each time, it's not one-time use but fixed). Does anyone know this app? I didn't have any issues with the other Fribourg app (Presto Park).

Just enter an underground parking garage or parking structure that has a barrier at the entrance and issues a ticket. Pay at the machines with the ticket before leaving. Sometimes, shopping center parking lots work too. You can pay with cash (they give change) or a credit card. Plus, your car stays in the shade underground—nice in this weather...

My husband has the Easy Park app. What do you want to know?

Watch out—for shopping center parking, the hourly rate often skyrockets after 2 hours. Makes sense, they're designed for people doing their shopping in the center. In some malls, parking is even free.

And given the heat in the coming days, I think it’ll be a bit spoiled.

I don’t know where you’re staying in the next few days. Lausanne?

Why not visit a cave, an air-conditioned museum, or something underground like the Bex salt mines, or take a walk in a shaded gorge along a stream?

Get up really early to sightsee, take a nap in the afternoon, and go out again in the evening? Some cities are really pretty with their buildings lit up.

Head up to altitude, above 2000m.

We’ll be north of Lausanne.

We don’t get up very early, actually 😅, and going out just to come back and go out again makes too much driving.

Museums, yes, but are they air-conditioned? In France, it’s hit or miss!

There’s the option of swimming in Lake Geneva.

I’m a bit worried about today—driving and stops with this heat, and my partner didn’t sleep well and isn’t feeling great 😅

What’s the risk if we don’t comply? Will the police or cameras fine us?

Not that I want to be a rebel, but I don’t always think to check. Like, I’m going to Lausanne on Sunday... If a similar measure were in place there, how would I, as a French person, even know?!
GA Gaura Veteran ·
It says "subject to a fine"... Franco-Swiss cooperation in this area is flawless! I was able to verify it with a little speeding over the 50 km/h limit in Geneva on my way to the airport—the fine reached me in France just fine!

This is specific to the city of Geneva, so no risk in Lausanne.

Here in Geneva, the French Crit'Air sticker is accepted.

This morning, I went to France and passed through Swiss customs on the way back (Ferney-Voltaire). There was an electronic sign indicating differentiated traffic restrictions. I assume it’s the same at major border crossings and on the highway entering Geneva from Lausanne...

You risk a fine if there’s a police check on a city street, I suppose... I don’t know the amount, but I don’t care since I have the right sticker... 😉
TI Ticapi Globetrotter ·
For now, Geneva is the only city that has implemented this sticker. So no problem in Lausanne.
RU Rudovfer Regular ·
Yep, I got that it was just Geneva... But I asked in case it applies to other cities in the future.

Thanks, everyone. I’ll keep reading the thread daily—I promise! Sorry for the off-topic. 🙂

Lol

Quick recap from yesterday: we made a stop in Bad Sückingen. I wanted to see a bit of Germany. The center is cute but still small. The main goal was to cross the covered bridge and walk the border on foot! Customs signs on both sides.

Out of curiosity, we checked out restaurant prices on the Swiss side. It’s more expensive than in Germany but way cheaper than elsewhere in Switzerland!

Given the heat, we mostly took two breaks. First, an ice cream break on the castle park terrace (in the shade), then an iced coffee in town. Prices, especially for drinks, are lower than in France. Swiss people must hang out here a lot 😂

Gorgeous Baroque cathedral!

Next stop in Rheinfelden. I saw that my parking app worked... Well, paid parking until 11 PM in a small town—yeah, we found that a bit much...

Anyway, there weren’t many people. It’s cute too. Another border bridge, but not covered.

We had to go back through Zofingen because I’d forgotten a bag of meds there... Blonde mouse moment 😂

We had dinner there, a Thai restaurant for a change.

Arrived at our new accommodation at midnight, greeted by the owner since it’s a studio set up in her house.

We talked a lot!

Slept badly because of the heat...

My partner is thinking of heading up to Chasseron for some altitude. At 35°C, we’re not going to Lausanne—it’s all uphill, on top of everything 😅 We weren’t feeling great yesterday with that heat already...

If you get a speeding fine (from a radar), pay it before you receive any late notices with extra fees... For parking, check on-site how to pay depending on the location, and also make sure it's a real fine...
MI MirandaMouse Globetrotter ·
There shouldn’t normally be any speeding tickets.

For parking, it was just in Aarau where I couldn’t pay—is there anything on the windshield? We didn’t stay long anyway

Normally, there’s a paper on the windshield with a QR code (that’s where you should check if it’s an official site) or a payment slip to pay at a post office—it depends on the place. In Aarau, I’m not sure...
MI MirandaMouse Globetrotter ·
I didn’t have any change, crazy!

Discovered a new concept: half of the Lidl is closed because "according to the law, they have to close part of the store 1 hour before—otherwise, too much competition with shops that close early."

So no canned veggies, but plenty of wine...

Fresh produce is great, but with this heat, it can’t stay long in the trunk, so the idea is not to do your shopping too early.

With the heatwave, everything’s complicated—the hours aren’t adapted to the weather at all.

We haven’t been to Chasseron lately, but instead went up to the heights of Vevey for the viewpoints, then to the shores of Lake Geneva.

In the end, even though the weather was nice, the view across wasn’t that clear because of the heat haze.

There were obviously lots of people by the lake, and it was stiflingly hot.

Like in Montreux, it’s really the view that’s pretty! Though there are some nice streets behind the lakeside promenade.

We said hello to Chaplin’s statue!

Since it was late, it was a bit dark.

The joy of a heatwave...

Not much fun to go for a walk, so...

The wooden tower in Lausanne... (my current wallpaper is actually a photo taken from its summit, by the way!) If there was a bit of wind, could you feel it moving? It’s silly, because it’s not a crazy thing, but it freaked me out once I was up there!

Surprising you didn’t get vertigo with that tower! I prefer the suspended bridges at Torrent Neuf. 😏

Edit: True, though—you don’t get an amazing view... Normally, you can see the mountains all the way to the end of the lake. 🤪
MI MirandaMouse Globetrotter ·
Not too windy. I didn’t lean out too much!

And yeah, it’s not the best time for viewpoints—too much heat haze! Oh well.

The exhibit on Polish painting was gorgeous! Really glad I saw it; this country is dear to my heart.

Today we’re waiting our turn at the Cailler chocolate factory…

It’s absolutely packed 😮

But we’ve been invited, along with a visit to the cheese dairy, by the Gruyères Tourism Office. The mouse is a famous blogger 😄

I ate way too much chocolate during the tasting 😲😇 Stopped by the shop, of course...

The site, under the mountain, is impressive!

We went to the center of Broc to admire the view of Gruyères Castle and then a few viewpoints over Lake Gruyère. With or without an 's,' you can get lost there 😵

I just extended our stay by three more nights, and we might even stay longer.

We're in a studio set up in a house, and for now, it's free all the time. We have our own kitchen and bathroom, so we’ve got our independence, and we see our host every day—we chat a lot, so the experience is great! Since no one’s waiting for us...

With this heat, you could visit the salt mines in Bex. Maybe the mouse will manage to negotiate free entry.😁

Another idea: the underground lake of Saint-Léonard.

We headed to the mountains to escape the heat. At 2,400 m altitude, it’s really cool up there.😂
MI MirandaMouse Globetrotter ·
Thanks!

I think the lakes or caves are really cold inside... But REALLY cold. We're not equipped for thermal shocks like that...

How high up are you?

Today’s tough—it’s so humid.

We took advantage of museum air conditioning, but at 6 PM it’s still really hot. And Lausanne is all hills 😅

We saw a Starbucks for an iced coffee, but the AC’s broken 😅

The employees are exhausted.

My ankle is sensitive to heat, so it’s doubly rough.

We’ll see what we do tomorrow. My partner’s wiped out from the heat, we’re sleeping badly, etc.

A little summary of the past few days...

Sunday was a bit of a lazy day... We went to see the Vaud countryside south of Lake Geneva, in Aigle. With all those vineyards, it reminded me of my Provence! There was a medieval festival, and we had a craft beer.

After that, it was less fun... My partner had read in his guidebook that there were beautiful viewpoints in Leysin, but we actually spent more time on the road than anything else.

The roads weren’t easy—lots of people, Swiss drivers in a hurry—and we were scared 😨 Few viewpoints to stop at.

At least we found an open Denner to buy a fondue to make back at the apartment.

The area is pretty, but my partner doesn’t want to drive so much on mountain roads anymore—it’s not his thing.

We ended up in Villeneuve, walking along Lake Geneva. It was nice, but you could really feel the humidity with the heat, and of course, crowds!

Beautiful sunset, though.

Yesterday, we went back to Gruyères to visit the Tibetan museum since we were invited, then the church and the cemetery below.

After that, we visited the cheese dairy! Mouse paradise 🐭 We stopped by the shop and the café. Though, 5 € for a scoop of Mövenpick ice cream 😨 Shocking for a French person. We shared a *gâteau bullois* instead...

Then a quick trip to Moléson-sur-Gruyères just to see the site. There wasn’t much else to do. Still impressive to be surrounded by mountains!

Our ears didn’t appreciate the car ride back and forth, though...

We’ve extended our stay by two nights for now.

The weather’s supposed to be mediocre for the next two days (well, today isn’t great either). We’re thinking of heading to Geneva.

On Thursday, there’s a European soccer match—a Turkish team (Beşiktaş) is playing away in Lausanne. The stadium holds about 12,000 people, but the Turkish club received over 52,000 ticket requests in one hour... A lot of fans will show up without tickets.
MI MirandaMouse Globetrotter ·
Thanks to both of you! We’re planning Geneva and its Museum of Art and History for a Thursday night visit instead.

I’ve already extended by two nights. Addicted to Switzerland 😉

We’re in a great location—we can even head to Evian, it’s just 1 hour away.

But the weather’s taking a turn. Between the heat and crappy weather, it’s tough to get ideal conditions! The mountain peaks have never really been clear, so we haven’t done any cable car rides. Maybe we should come back in May or June...

Yesterday, we took a walk to La Tour-de-Peilz with a stop to see the Russian church in Vevey (a must-see for me—those Russian churches!). Walked around Montreux and checked out the Queen Experience. Then we tried *croûte au fromage*—the local specialty we were missing!

The lake is beautiful even in so-so weather, but photos don’t do it justice. Of course, it’s packed with people—this isn’t the kind of place we’d normally visit in summer.

If you're ever in the area, there's a stunning Russian church just 100 meters from the Museum of Art and History in Geneva, plus the Old Town nearby (cathedral, visit beneath the cathedral, Maison Tavel, Place du Bourg-de-Four—where you can grab an affordable chicken meal at *Chez ma Cousine*—Reformation Museum, and more...)
