Morocco is absolutely perfect for photography. You come back with an impressive number of photos, each one more beautiful than the last. You don’t keep them all, but choosing which ones to keep can be tough. Have a great day.
TR Trostang Globetrotter ·
And even after many trips to Morocco, we still come back with tons of photos. We just can't resist the temptation.

Not giving in to temptation is a sin, I think.

Thanks Véronique, I already feel much better.

Thanks for reassuring me. Have a good evening and see you soon.

Under the snow, Morocco is still stunning but less colorful.

A stunning and totally unexpected experience. It's amazing! But not for everyone. I imagine Moroccans must really feel the cold. Very few places have heating.
KE Kelboulé205 Regular ·
Just because there's a bit of snow doesn't mean it's colder than usual. Ouarzazate, Boumalne, and the region get freezing for several weeks every winter—and it's even worse when it's windy.
DO Dorothy17 Regular ·
It's just like home—it’s not when it’s snowing that it’s the coldest.

Hi there! You're right! I stayed in Aït Benhaddou in January with the wind in the valley—it was absolutely freezing! During the day, we could put on just one T-shirt (well, us tourists, anyway—the Moroccans kept their jackets on all day!). The earthen houses were much cozier than the new concrete ones! We warmed up by the braziers and drank tea all day long! Still, I did end up with a nasty bout of bronchitis once 😕

Aït Benhadou is in the mountains. What's the altitude?
KE Kelboulé205 Regular ·
Between 1,200 and 1,300 m

Then the whole valley up to ErRachidia is above 1,000 m, and even 1,500 m for Boumalne. It’s common to freeze there in winter, even though snow is usually rare.

I never imagined seeing a palm grove under a thick blanket of snow. It’s mind-blowing.

It's true that Morocco is very mountainous.

Let's hope Morocco gets milder temperatures again very soon. First for Moroccans, and then for travelers.
JE Jeeaan Globetrotter ·
This week is still supposed to be cold, but after that I think it should warm up. According to the forecast.....
DI Diane2017 Regular ·
We’d prefer it a bit warmer. When we think of Morocco, we think more about the heat than the cold.
JE Jeeaan Globetrotter ·
I can't remember if Morocco is a hot country where it can get cold or a cold country where you can get really hot. Some of you might be more precise than me.
HA Hannahannah Globetrotter ·
Hi Jean,

According to Liautey, Morocco is a cold country where the sun is hot. From the latest news, that’s still the case.

Hi Hannah,

Yep, it’s still going on! Apart from the south, there’s rain and snow (above 1000m), and temperatures are plummeting (-8°C) in Tinghir. It was 2°C this morning in Zagora with rain! !
HA Hannahannah Globetrotter ·
Hi Martine,

Brrr... do you have enough fleece? It’s really been a miserable year—just thinking that in May I had 40°C near Tafraoute... Well, you might get some rain at least. Have a good day.

Hey Hannah,

Just wondering—here’s a little question for all you seasoned Morocco travelers: do you prefer exploring Morocco in the freezing cold or the scorching heat?😎

Later!
HA Hannahannah Globetrotter ·
I'm wondering—when it's very cold, as long as there's no snow to block movement, it seems more pleasant to explore on foot. The only problem is accommodations, which are mostly unheated or barely heated.

CA Cambrousse Globetrotter ·
I experienced scorching heat in Marrakech—I had to escape. Enough is enough. The Atlantic coast was a real pleasure in comparison.

For walking, I prefer the cold to the heat. The January hikes (excluding summits—I don’t do those) were really enjoyable. But as Hannah said, the accommodations can be freezing!

Since I have the choice, I head out during the in-between seasons—spring or autumn. Neither extreme cold nor intense heat ;)

hi there spring is definitely the ideal time! mild heat and lush vegetation! just like in many countries! Since I’m retired, I’ll admit I don’t go in winter anymore—the last time I caught a nasty bronchitis, so I avoid it now! francia

Autumn and spring are the best times to visit Morocco. Winter is short, so it's best to avoid December and January as much as possible, or stick to the coast.
CA Cambrousse Globetrotter ·
you can also bring your snowshoes and your down jacket and go for a walk in the Oukaimeden... in January and February.... 😉 I reckon it must be cheaper than the same thing in the Jura...

Morocco is a stunning country that I never get tired of. I met some Canadian travelers there this fall who were amazed by the beauty of Morocco's landscapes.
