Hi there, I’ll be in Istanbul from May 8 to 17, 2025. I’ve got one free day. I’m torn between the Princes' Islands or Bursa.... If you had to choose, where would you go??? Thanks so much for your suggestions and opinions.

Good evening Linda, The Prince Islands are located in Istanbul. There are 4 of them: Kınalıada, Burgazada, Heybeliada, and Büyükada. In Turkish, "ada" means "island." There’s a boat leaving for the islands from the Kabataş pier every hour. The travel time to Kınalıada is 1 hour, to Burgazada 1 hour 15 minutes, to Heybeliada 1 hour 30 minutes, and to Büyükada 1 hour 45 minutes. The last island, Büyükada, is the most interesting. Bursa is about 160 km away from Istanbul. The drive takes around 2 hours by car. My suggestion is to stay in Istanbul and visit the Prince Islands. But if you’d like to get away from the big city a bit, consider İznik, which is closer to Istanbul and is a very historic and archaeological village. İznik was once a capital of the Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman empires. The choice is yours. Best regards, PS. Feel free to write to me for more information. Yucel

Thanks so much! Do you know if there are any guided tours from Istanbul to Iznik? We don’t have a car. I saw Iznik 50 years ago, and it’s true that it’s really beautiful!

Hi Linda, Of course, there are tours to İznik. But generally, they run on weekends and by bus. For example, Jolly Tur, Fest Travel, etc. I don’t know how many people you are. It’s better to choose a private agency that will arrange a special tour for you. If you can’t find a solution, write to my email yucelgurtekin@hotmail.com, and I’ll try to accompany you to İznik in my car. I wish you a great stay in Istanbul. Best regards, Yücel

Thanks so much, Yugu55, for the info. It’s just the two of us—my husband and me. We’ll be in Istanbul for 10 days to celebrate our retirement! If we decide to go to Iznik, I’ll definitely get in touch. Teşekkür ederim

Hi, Personally, I really loved Bursa. The Princes' Islands (especially Büyükada) are nice too, of course, but in the end, there isn’t much to do there (I think, but that’s just my personal opinion). You arrive, and near the dock, there are lots of restaurants and souvenir shops along a few streets, then a few roads lead up toward the center of the island (mostly nature, plus an impressive old wooden orphanage and a Greek Orthodox church). It’s a pretty area with lovely houses and flowering trees; you can rent a buggy to get around (since it’s a bit of a climb), but not all the way to the very top. The view from up there is nice, that’s true. But I found Bursa had so much more to offer: its bazaar, its tower, its mosques, the Koza Han, the cable car, the Green Mausoleum. It’s really an amazing city. That said, it’s definitely more "dense" than the islands, so you’ll have to see if it fits into your schedule. It might even require an overnight stay. But it’s really worth it. Let us know what you decide!
