Hi everyone, I'm planning a short 15-day trip to Turkey in January 2027. My idea is to spend a few days in Istanbul, then head down to Cappadocia (2 days of travel), then make my way to Ephesus (with a stop in Pamukkale), and return via the Aegean coast.

I’d really love to visit Cappadocia before heading to Ephesus (a must-see).

Has anyone done this route before? I’d also love to hear your great tips for accommodation in Istanbul or elsewhere.

Big thanks to all contributors. Laurent

Don’t hesitate to explore part of the southern coast, including Antalya.

Watch out for entry fees at some sites—they’ve gotten crazy (check the latest travel journals published).

Hi there

I can only help you with Istanbul, where I’ve been twice. Last October, we stayed in the Galata district—a really nice (but tiny) studio, quiet, found on Airbnb here. The area is always lively, central, and convenient for transport. Next time, I’ll probably stay around Balat or Fener, neighborhoods we loved. If you’re only staying a few days and want to see Hagia Sophia, Topkapi, the Basilica Cistern, and the Blue Mosque, it’s better to stay in Sultanahmet. It’s touristy but well-located for getting around. As Jojoone mentioned, watch out for prices—they’ve skyrocketed in recent years. Over 60 € for Topkapi, for example. The Blue Mosque entry is free, though.

Hi Laurent, yes, the itinerary is totally doable in 15 days, but in January you’ll still need to stay flexible: in Cappadocia, the cold and snow can sometimes throw a wrench in the works.

Starting with Istanbul, then Cappadocia, followed by Pamukkale, and finally Ephesus, plus a few days on the Aegean coast, seems like the smartest way to go.

For Cappadocia, I’d recommend 3 days instead of 2—just so you’re not rushing and have a chance to enjoy good weather for the landscapes and maybe even a hot-air balloon ride.

On the other hand, I wouldn’t necessarily drive everywhere: some trips are pretty long, and domestic flights can save you a ton of time.

For accommodations, in January you should find some great quality-to-price ratios, especially outside the most touristy areas. Sounds like an awesome plan! Turkey in winter can be really stunning, with way fewer crowds. 😊
