After a successful first trip in 2025, with the help of forum members, we’d love to return to this amazing cultural melting pot in 2026 for three weeks (2 adults, 2 kids aged 13 and 16).
We’d like to explore new places in the Northeast: fly into Khon Kaen and explore the region—Loei, Nong Khai, perhaps? A detour to the center to visit Sukhothai would be a great addition.
I’ll admit, planning this itinerary is a bit trickier for me since I’m less familiar with these areas and what they have to offer. The distances also seem longer than our previous transfers (BKK-Kanchanaburi-Kaeng Krachan-Sam Roi Yot...).
Do you have any suggestions or hidden gems to explore in the Northeast and Central regions that keep travel time between stops reasonable (3-4 hours)?

Voici le programme désiré :
Nous souhaitons commencer notre circuit directement depuis Chiang mai et descendre à notre rythme jusqu’à Bangkok. ( 8 à 10 jours )
De Bangkok, train jusqu’à Surat tani et bateau pour Koh Samui. (3 à 5 jours)
De Koh Samui bateau pour Koh Tao ( 4-5 jours)
Départ de Koh Tao pour Chumphon. De Chumphon on reprendra le train pour remonter à Bangkok et rentrer à Paris.
Comme vous pouvez le comprendre, on n’a pas vraiment envie de fixer des dates précises et on a vraiment envie de vivre notre parcours au jour le jour. On a visité Bangkok à deux reprises par le passé, donc juste une nuit en fin de parcours nous suffira. C’est pourquoi on voulait atterrir à Chiang mai et commencer depuis le nord. On voit tout le monde faire l’inverse. C’est peut-être con comme question mais est-ce que ça pose un problème de faire du nord à Bangkok plutôt que de Bangkok au nord ( moins de transport dans ce sens peut-être ???). Vos avis et expérience nous intéresse.
Et enfin, pensez vous que cela soit risqué de ne prévoir aucune nuit avant de partir ? on n’a pas envie de se bloquer à cause des dates réservés dans tel ou tel endroit… on ne veut pas du 4 étoiles, juste un endroit sympa et propre pour passer une bonne nuit. I really loved Thailand, but it was too touristy for my taste. So I'm hesitating about going back and wondering if Cambodia or Vietnam would be less crowded with tourists...

I’m starting to plan my next trip to Southeast Asia this winter (2.5 months, leaving in early December), and here’s a rough outline of my route—I’d love to share it with you and hear your thoughts and tips.
- I’ll start in Bangkok and already have three spots I’ve marked: Ayutthaya, Kanchanaburi, and Uthai Thani (I haven’t been to any of these places yet). - Next, I’d like to cross the country from west to east to reach the Laos border. I’m heading to Thailand for two weeks at the end of February with my family. I went there 20 years ago.
I’d love your thoughts on a relaxed two-week trip that lets me show my kids the joys of travel while also taking time to unwind (after all, it *is* vacation! :))
I’m planning to spend 2 days in Bangkok, then take the overnight train to Chiang Mai (so my kids can experience that) and stay for 2-3 nights. After that, I’ll fly to Phuket for a few nights, then head to Koh Lanta for a few days before returning to Phuket to make my way back to Bangkok for the last two days before departure.
Tons of people travel for two weeks during this time—any recommendations? So far, I only have my round-trip flight ticket to Bangkok.

I’m a die-hard fan of India, but it’s time I discovered Thailand too to broaden my Asian horizons.
I’m heading there on January 19, 2025, for a 46-day trip (no visa needed as I’m French). I’ve pored over a few guidebooks and travel blogs. Based on what caught my interest, I’ve put together a rough itinerary and list of sights. But since I know absolutely nothing about Thailand, I’m kind of flying blind here.
Since I’m not exactly a spring chicken anymore, I’ve opted for a few bases where I’ll stay several days in the same place. That way, I won’t have to change locations and hotels every day or so, packing and unpacking my suitcase constantly. Instead, I plan to explore the surrounding area each day, within a maximum radius of 50 to 70 km.
So, first question: Is that kind of round-trip distance manageable in a day in Thailand?
In India, renting a car for a day—with a driver—currently costs around 35 to 40 € per day. Knowing that 1,300 to 1,500 THB would be my absolute max, and even then, only if I don’t rent a car every single day.
Which brings me to my second question: Am I being unrealistic?
Otherwise—third question—once I’m settled in the city I’ve chosen as my base, can I get around within that 50–70 km radius using public transport?
I’ve already booked all my hotels—with free cancellation—on booking.com at an average price of 950/1,000 THB per night. Does that put me in a good range for value for money? Or am I dreaming?
Here’s my plan:

La grande question que je me pose est ou aller entre le Khao Yai et le sud. Sachant que le 25 c'est le nouvel an Chinois (hôtels sans doute full dans pas mal de coins j'imagine). Du coup, soit on reste dans la région du centre, soit on monte au nord et puis avion vers le sud. Bref je suis un peu perdu, tout me semble attirant. On ne cherche rien en particulier si ce n'est découvrir du pays. 4 jours ce n'est pas tellement donc je préfèrerais éviter les gros trajets (de jour en tout cas).
Nous passerons la fin de notre séjour sur une île (avion? train de nuit? bus?). Probablement Koh Yao Noï sur les conseils d'un ami ou Koh Kood mais si vous avez d'autres propositions je suis partant :) Nous cherchons un endroit calme, sans prétention, sans fiesta avec une possibilité de sorties snorkeling de qualité.

We're heading to Thailand with our two kids (9 years old) for two weeks next February (2026). We plan to rent a car to stay independent and explore a bit off the beaten path. Still, we'd like to spend 1 or 2 nights on a nice, quiet island—just for some relaxation and especially snorkeling (even though I know it's not the best country for beautiful corals).
I've read dozens of forum pages and travel journals, but I'm still overwhelmed and can't decide where to go for a peaceful paradise-like beach with good snorkeling opportunities. We don’t need comfort—Robinson Crusoe-style camping or hammock nights work perfectly for us. No electricity or signal is totally fine. We just don’t want to pay 1000 € for a family of four to go to the Surin Islands, even if they do look like paradise.
Any suggestions?

Train or taxi (which app should I use for Thailand?) to Phetchaburi – 2 nights (any hotel recommendations?)
Daytime train to Surat Thani – 1 night there (any hotel recommendations?)
Pick up the rental car and head to Khao Sok – 1 night there (any hotel recommendations?)

Bonjour, nous venons d’acheter nos billets pour les Philippines du 8 au 25 février! Je voyage avec mon fils de 12 ans. Nous sommes déjà été en Thaïlande mais il n’avait que 3 ans( donc se souvient plus).
Aujourdhui japprend qu’il y a l’éruption volcanique près de Manille ( notre avion va atterrir là)

Nous sommes en Thaïlande depuis quelques jours. Nous avons essayé d’aller voir la cascade de Kam Hom hier, mais grande déception pas une goutte d’eau. Nous avons l’intention d’aller faire un tour demain au Phu Pha Yon, et y admirer les différentes cascades.
Est-ce que quelqu’un pourrait me confirmer qu’il y est allé récemment et qu’elles sont bien en fonction ?

Je viens de regarder les chiffres du tourisme .Et c'est bien ce que je pensais le nombre de voyageurs/touristes pour la Thailande a explosé .On me dira qu'il y a pas mal de chinois dans le lot.Je me demande si c'est pas comme aller à Noire moutier ou sur la côte d'Azur désormais en pleine été.
Je lis sur le forum que les prix ont explosé .Effet du tourisme de masse ?
Il y a aussi le change 1€ pour 34 baths qui pique.Je suis parti à l'époque des 1€ = 45/50 baths.2005 à 2008 J'ai fais 1 an en tous là bas.
Est ce que vous avez vu une sacrée différence sur la période 2010 jusqu'à maintenant? J'ai l'impression que c'est par tranche...
Avec les reportage tv en Fr, j'ai aussi l'impression que ça a rameuté pas mal de monde. Je suis rentré dans une boutique des jeunes vendeurs parlaient de leurs futurs vacances en Thailande. Il y a 15/20 ans ces jeunes seraient parti sur la côte d'azur , noiremoutier...Alors qu'il y avait des billets pas cher .J'avais payé allé retour 550€ en 2005.
Je pense pas que je retournerai en Thailande car plus le temps que j'avais à 25 ans.Je m'oriente plus vers des endroits ou il y a moins de tourisme de masse, pour l'Asie du Sud Est mais c'est pas au programme pour l'instant.

J'imagine les gens qui y ont été dans les années 80/90 ça devait vraiment être top.Moi 2005 c'était sympas après j'ai commencé à voir que l'engouement monté.
Après on nous bassine avec la fin du pétrole mais les billets longs trajets sont vraiment pas cher.Je pense que c'est ça aussi qui crame la destination.

Je viens de regarder les chiffres du tourisme .Et c'est bien ce que je pensais le nombre de voyageurs/touristes pour la Thailande a explosé .On me dira qu'il y a pas mal de chinois dans le lot.Je me demande si c'est pas comme aller à Noire moutier ou sur la côte d'Azur désormais en pleine été.
Je lis sur le forum que les prix ont explosé .Effet du tourisme de masse ?
Il y a aussi le change 1€ pour 34 baths qui pique.Je suis parti à l'époque des 1€ = 45/50 baths.2005 à 2008 J'ai fais 1 an en tous là bas.
Est ce que vous avez vu une sacrée différence sur la période 2010 jusqu'à maintenant? J'ai l'impression que c'est par tranche...
Avec les reportage tv en Fr, j'ai aussi l'impression que ça a rameuté pas mal de monde. Je suis rentré dans une boutique des jeunes vendeurs parlaient de leurs futurs vacances en Thailande. Il y a 15/20 ans ces jeunes seraient parti sur la côte d'azur , noiremoutier...Alors qu'il y avait des billets pas cher .J'avais payé allé retour 550€ en 2005.
Je pense pas que je retournerai en Thailande car plus le temps que j'avais à 25 ans.Je m'oriente plus vers des endroits ou il y a moins de tourisme de masse, pour l'Asie du Sud Est mais c'est pas au programme pour l'instant.
(Partir en vacances pour retrouver Nanard entrains de se faire gueuler dessus par Ginette .Car Popole commençait à se lever pendant le massage thai. vu à Khao San ou voir Magloire et Momo et mauricette et zoubida "vas y va la baiser c'est toute des putes les thaies!" vu au skytrain etc.Non merci)

J'imagine les gens qui y ont été dans les années 80/90 ça devait vraiment être top.Moi 2005 c'était sympas après j'ai commencé à voir que l'engouement monté.
Après on nous bassine avec la fin du pétrole mais les billets longs trajets sont vraiment pas cher.Je pense que c'est ça aussi qui crame la destination.

nous serons 24 nuits région Phuket car nous ne connaissons pas mais je sais pas trop ou aller si je vais a Phuket ou a Krabi ou Khao lak ou Koh PHIPhi je ne sais pas trop comment faire pour avoir le moins de vol interne possible .j'aime bien rester une semaine sur un lieu pour avoir le temps de me poser tranquillement ,

Nous partons bientôt en Thaïlande en famille (avec nos 2 enfants de 7 et 9 ans). Nous allons louer une voiture à Hua Hin pour partir directement à Bang Saphan Yai puis remonter en passant par Prachuap Khiri Khan et Pranburi en 15 jours. Ma question est de savoir s'il existe une route côtière entre ces lieux plutôt que d'emprunter la 4 voies ? Et si oui, combien faut il de temps pour faire Hua Hin/Bang Saphan Yai par la côte ?

Nous avons l'habitude d'organiser nous meme nos voyage avec l'aide de ce forum.
Nous avons une bonne connaissance de l'Afrique du Nord, mais sur les conseils d'amis nous souhaitons nous "lancer" en Asie du Sud Est.
Nous projetons de partir 6 à 7 semaines à partir du 28 octobre 2020.
Nos poles d'interets sont
-visites
-petits trecs
-vivre au milieu des habitants.
-calme
Il faudrait que le circuit tienne compte des conditions climatiques, surtout" pas trop chaud"
On aime bien se déplacer en bus ou train .
Gros problème....par quel pays débuter?Quel circuit peut-on envisager?

En mars prochain, jedébarquerai à Bangkok et avant d'aller sur mon île secrète, je vais faire un détour au nord de Bangkok pour aller visiter deux vignobles thaïs; Gran Monte Estate et PB Valley Winery (et peut-être Village Farm & Winery).
J'aimerais connaître les meilleurs moyens de transports possibles (taxi, bus, train?) pour se rendre dans ce coin-là (Nakhon Ratchasima 30320) de Bangkok (Dusit) et les prix moyens que je peux m'attendre à payer, le temps pour s'y rendre, etc. Et tant qu'à faire, une petite GH bien située et pas trop chère comme pied-à-terre. Je pense y rester deux jours, peut-être trois car il y beaucoup à voir dans cette région.

I'm "finalizing" a trip with my adventurous family (wife + 3 kids aged 16, 14, and 8) for this Easter break in Thailand (we'll be there from 04/19 to 05/01).
I'm going through the site and wanted to thank you all for the tips and insights you share on the forum. They're really valuable. But boy, it's tough to sketch out an itinerary
Of course, my backpacking route might be debatable, but I'm trying to target this path to get a first taste of the country's different "facets" and keep everyone in the family happy 😛
For this first trip, we're sticking to the classics and planning to explore a different side of the Land of Smiles in the future:
- arrival in BKK at 4 PM on 04/19 ==> leaving the same day at 7 PM for Chiang Mai (I "hesitated" with the 5:30 PM flight but was worried we wouldn't have enough time to switch from British AW to Thai Airways + airport fees + baggage + customs, etc. )
- from 04/20 to 04/23 ==> Chiang Mai with the main highlights (we've picked: Doi Suthep, Wat Pha Lat, elephant sanctuary, Doi Inthanon, the old city, Wat Chedi, Wat Phra Singh).
==> For the elephant sanctuary: any recommendations? Morning or afternoon visit?
==> It might seem ambitious, but we're considering a day trip to Chiang Rai—though it's not a must. Yes, we know it means ~6 hours of travel in one day.
- direct flight on the morning of 04/24 to Krabi ==> Railay - Phang Nga ==> this part isn't finalized yet (we won't stay in Krabi).
For those who've been there, which part of the south would be best weather-wise during this period?
We'd stay in the south until 04/28 and take a 8 PM flight to BKK.
- BKK on 04/29, 04/30, and part of 05/01 before our flight to London at 11 PM.
We'll hit the must-see/classic spots there.
If you have time to share some insights, I'd really appreciate it.

My girlfriend and I booked our tickets with Saudia Airlines for a trip to Thailand this summer, from July 5th to August 3rd. Given the geopolitical situation in the Middle East, we’re keeping a close eye on the news.
I was wondering if anyone here is in the same situation as us?
• Have you heard anything about possible mass cancellations or if the airline is still maintaining its routes to Asia?
• Are there any travelers who’ve recently returned who could tell us if air corridors have been changed (longer flight times)?

Combien de jours pour chaque site? Faut-il privilégier chiang rai qui est moins touristique? j'ai lu quil y avait foule à Chiang mai
Nous aimerions découvrir la nature environnante: auriez vous une agence locale fiable à me conseiller?
avez vous des adresses de guest house pas trop chères ds ces 3 villes ou autres "bon plans"?
Nous y serions fin mars début avril 2020.

Au milieu de tous ces posts concernant le Coronavirus (lol) je pose par ici une question à laquelle j’ai du mal à trouver une réponse c’est assez compliqué voilà je pars dans deux semaines pour 14j et j’ai déjà décidé des étapes de mon voyage : Arrivée et départ de Bangkok et visite de : Sukhothai / chang mai / chang rai / khao sok / koh muk ( oui ça peut faire beaucoup pour 2 semaines mais j’ai l’habitude de voyager en bougeant beaucoup je préfère) Sachant que j’aimerai faire un trajet en train de nuit pour l’expérience :) Après sinon avion bus.. peu importe
Mais le problème c’est que je n’arrive pas à mettre dans l’ordre ces destinations auriez-vous une idée de ce qu’il serait plus pertinent à visiter en premier ou en dernier (et le top si vous avez une idée du temps à consacrer à chaque étape (oui j’abuse lol )) j’aimerais finir par khao sok car on dit souvent qu’il faut garder le meilleur pour la fin :D Par exemple je ne sais pas s’il est judicieux de faire Sukhothai/chang mai / chang rai avant de redescendre dans le sud sans risquer de faire une overdose de temple et pour le coup de ne pas les apprécier à leur juste valeur...
question bonus est-ce que ça vaut le coup de dormir à Sukhothai ?

Je pars 15 jours en Février 2 dernières semaines , mon programme est Bangkok puis les iles de : Koh Chang , Koh Mak et Koh kood . Je suis preneur de toutes suggestions et bonnes adresses, a faire ou ne pas faire pour mon séjour. En remerciant les connaisseurs de ces iles. Bonne fin de journée.

J essaye de faire un itinéraire sur les îles du sud. Voici notre programme qui peut changer selon les avis de chacun.
Pour info nous aurons 14 nuits fin janvier début février 2020.
Les vols ne sont pas encore achetés nous attendons selon notre itinéraire.
3 nuits sur Krabi (1 journée Hong Island et 1 journée a Koh Rok et Koh Haa)
5 nuits Koh Lipe
5 nuits Koh Phi Phi
Par contre dans quel sens faut il faire cet itinéraire pour avoir le moins de temps de trajet moins de perte de temps possible et par quel moyen de transport pour aller d’une île à une autre.

Just so you know: we love this city, and every time we visit, we spend several days there without ever feeling like we’ve seen it all. So this year, we’re staying for 8 days! Here’s what we have planned this year: * Exploring Nonthaburi * A day trip to Nakhon Pathom (to test out our basic Thai skills 😛) * Khlong Lat Mayom floating market (we went 10 years ago—it’s probably changed a lot!) * The Erawan Museum (we visited Muang Boran on our last trip) * Finally taking the time to check out Wat Phra Sri Maha Mariamman and Wat Yannawa (we’ve planned to go several times but never made it—are they worth a visit?)
This is what we’ve picked so far, but I’d love to hear about the favorite spots and recommendations from travelers who, like us, adore Bangkok.

Not long ago, I used to travel as a couple, but my husband has since passed away, and I’ve decided to set off again. The trip I took to Cambodia in January 2025 did me a world of good.
I’m now considering Thailand, a destination we never included in our plans because even 15 years ago, people said it was too touristy. Still, I’m thinking about the itinerary below, but I don’t feel up to arranging buses, trains, or guides on my own while I’m there. I’m looking for one or more drivers and have been in touch with an agency, but their offers are just copy-paste group tours that I don’t want.
So, if you have any contacts, experiences, or advice, I’d be so grateful if you’d share them with me. Here’s my rough plan:
Arrival in Bangkok
Ayutthaya (2 nights)
Kanchanaburi (2 or 3 nights)
Sangkhlaburi/Sai Yok (3 nights)
Sukhothai (2 nights)
Lampang (I’ve planned 3 nights, but that might be a bit much—it depends on what time I arrive in the city)
Chiang Mai
Chiang Dao
Pai
Chiang Rai
I was thinking about the Mae Hong Son loop—thoughts?
What do you think about staying overnight at the Golden Triangle?
When I look online, of course, I can find agencies that organize tours to national parks, etc.
I’m retired but in great physical shape. I’d rather go hiking than sit in hot springs with crowds of tourists who’ve all arranged meet-ups. I don’t want to spend a day at an elephant camp, and I don’t want to visit Karen villages.
I’d love to hear your advice.

Hi there, what’s good to do around BKK for 2 days outside of Bangkok? We’re wrapping up our Laos-Cambodia-Thailand trip. We don’t want to stay in BKK anymore (we’ve been there many times over the past 35 years), and someone mentioned Kanchanaburi. Is it worth it? Any other suggestions, keeping in mind we’re not looking for beaches (we already know Thailand’s beaches well). All recommendations are welcome—we’re on a tight schedule as we head back to Thailand on February 3rd and have 2 days to spend outside Bangkok from the 7th to the 9th of February. So many things to see that I’m not sure what route to take for my two-week trip at the end of February. I initially thought about spending a few days in Chiang Mai and then heading down to Koh Samui and Koh Tao, but the travel time is long, and the flight from Chiang Mai to Koh Samui is really expensive. So, I’m looking for an alternative after Bangkok while keeping Koh Samui and Koh Tao. Maybe this itinerary, but I’d love your thoughts:
Day 1-3: Bangkok (3 days)
Day 4-5: Kanchanaburi (2 days)
Day 6: Transit Bangkok → Koh Samui
Day 7-9: Koh Samui (3 days)
Day 10-12: Koh Tao (3 days)
