Je suis tres interessee par des retours d'experience ou par vos avis concernant mon itineraire/dates/climat TdM debut 2010. Voir ci dessous les dates approximatives et pays/ regions traversees. ( nb de semaines ou jours indiques sur la gauche) Je n arrive pas a me decider sur le billet TdM, car je suis a environs 30000 miles pour 4 continents. Et ce nb de miles et nb de stop limités sont determinant surtout pour l'australie. Est ce que les durees sont suffisantes ? ou puis je rester moins longtp ? ou dois je rester plus lgtp ? Avez vous fait le meme parcours ? qu'est ce qui est faisable ou pas avec les differentes alliances ? Avez vous rencontre des pbl ?Je sais pas rexple que l'ile de pacque n'est possible qu'avec le one world...Ce genre d'experience est reellement tres interessante pour m'aider a y voir plus claire et trouver les solutuions optimales de vol et d'itineraires.

Bonjour je pars dans deux semaines en Thailande et avec ma coequipiere on se pose plusieurs questions :

- quel antimoustique faut il prendre? (le Dr du centre de vaccination m'as recommandé "repel insct" mais c'etais celui présenter sur une plaquette du labo !!) et ou l'achetez vous (pharmacie ou internet ou sur place?)

- par rapport aux vetements: est ce que les tailles sont les meme qu'ici? (faut il prendre des tailles au dessus...?)

- je voudrais ramener des cartouches de cigarettes: ou les acheter? dans la ville de Bangkok ou dans les aeroports?

...

et si vous avez des conseils nous sommes preneuses !!!

je suis en train de regarder pour faire des excursions en une journée depuis Marrakech en août et je m'interroge si celle d'Ait Benhaddou est faisable en une journée en 4x4.

Bon, c'est clair il va faire très chaud et je suis avec des enfants, ça c'est un autre élément à prendre en compte. Je crois que je verrais avec eux une fois à Marrakech mais je voulais déjà savoir si c'est faisable en une journée et est-ce que l'on va passer la journée en voiture et finalement peu de temps sur place ?

Bonjour 🙂 , j'ai prévu de partir pour 6 mois en Asie du sud à partir de novembre, en solo, et rester au moins 3 mois en Inde du sud .Je compte ( j'espère! ) passer un mois au Myanmar et quelque temps au Népal . Ma decision a été prise assez recemment et je n'ai pu reunir un budget de 4000 euros sur place , ceci n'incluant pas le vol A/R et tous les frais de depart ( visas , vaccins , assurance etc ... ) sachant que je suis "souple" sur le programme , car j'aime voyager aussi au gré de mes envies , notamment si l'Inde me fait fuire ailleurs ( c'est ma première rencontre avec ce pays , on ne sait jamais) , je voudrais savoir si ce budget vous semble raisonnable , notamment avec le cout des vols internes . Je voyage d'une manière simple , petits-hotels , Guests house . Merci

Après avoir indiquer à mon généraliste il m'a prescrit du Malarone et le vaccin contre le Typhus. Pensez-vous que cela soit réellement utile ? Les seuls lieux un peu à risque qu'on va visiter sont Koh chang et les environs de Chiang Mai. Mais on sera sur place une semaine dans chacun de ces endroits respectivement. J'étais un peu étonné pour le Typphus et concernant le Malarone, je suis un peu rétissante car j'ai peur de pas supporter le traiement et d'avoir trop d'effet secondaire.

Sinon, j'ai finis mes réservations pour les hébergements et je voudrais avoir vos avis : Bangkok : Lamphu tree hotel Sukhothai : Ruean Thai Hotel Chiang Mai : The Castle Rajchiangsan Koh chang : Siam bay resort (2 nuits) + Baan Rim Nam (chez Ian pendant 3 nuits) A la place du Siam Bay resort, on voulait un bungalow sur la plage au KB resort mais ils n'ont plus de disponibilité dans nos dates.

Je réfléchis tout doucement à la destination des vacances d'été 2009...

Indonésie ou Philippines (arrivée probable via Hong Kong) tiennent la corde.

Peut-on envisager ces destinations avec un même type de budget ?

Je suppose que pour le logement et la nourriture, nous pouvons nous attendre à quelques-chose de comparable avec la Thailande, Malaisie ou Vietnam ?

C'est surtout au niveau des déplacements, notamment entre îles philippines, que je doute.

Pour notre quatrième séjour en Thaïlande, nous avons l' intention, après un circuit "traditionnel" dans le Nord, de voir un peu vers Nan, moins touristique que d' autres régions, voire Uttaradit, que souvent les guides "sautent" tout simplement, puis d' aller vers Loëï, et de terminer cette partie du voyage à Nongkhaï, le tout en se rapprochant autant que possible de la frontière laotienne . Mais il semble que les communications pour ce trajet risquent d' être difficiles, sans les grands choix habituels train-autobus-avion ? Voyageurs chevronnés, d' après vos expériences, merci d' avance de toutes vos suggestions concernant transports, hébergements de niveau moyen et arrêts particulièrement intéressants et authentiques !

Je souhaite partir en Thaïlande début février pour une période d'un mois et demi. Mais j'ai néanmoins quelques doutes ... 1 mois et demi n'est il pas trop long pour la Thaïlande? surtout que nous enchainons tout de suite sur la Thailande après avoir passé 3 mois en Inde

De plus quel est le budget moyen par jour en Thaïlande sans faire d'excès et en se logeant décemment mais sans luxe? J'ai pour l'instant misé sur 20€ par jour pour nous deux ...

Depuis plusieurs années nous partons avec nos enfants (3 ans 5 ans et 14 ans ) vers des pays lointains ou vacances un peu "originales" et chaque année je commence à faire mes recherches au retour ce qui énerve mon mari (ah ! ah!).

Cette année nous sommes partis en Namibie en itinérant, c'était très sympa si vous voulez des infos ne pas hesiter c'est génial avec des enfants mais assez cher.

Je cherche donc une destination et des idées sympas, j'ai une idée mais il fait surement trop chaud en été :traverser le sud du maroc rencontrer des touaregs faire des excursions dans le desert à dos de chameau ????

Mes fils sont passionnés par les tribus africaines, cette année nous avons passés la journée avec un bushmen et sa famille, ils en parlent encore.

I'm "finalizing" a trip with my adventurous family (wife + 3 kids aged 16, 14, and 8) for this Easter break in Thailand (we'll be there from 04/19 to 05/01).

I'm going through the site and wanted to thank you all for the tips and insights you share on the forum. They're really valuable. But boy, it's tough to sketch out an itinerary

Of course, my backpacking route might be debatable, but I'm trying to target this path to get a first taste of the country's different "facets" and keep everyone in the family happy 😛

For this first trip, we're sticking to the classics and planning to explore a different side of the Land of Smiles in the future:

- arrival in BKK at 4 PM on 04/19 ==> leaving the same day at 7 PM for Chiang Mai (I "hesitated" with the 5:30 PM flight but was worried we wouldn't have enough time to switch from British AW to Thai Airways + airport fees + baggage + customs, etc. )

- from 04/20 to 04/23 ==> Chiang Mai with the main highlights (we've picked: Doi Suthep, Wat Pha Lat, elephant sanctuary, Doi Inthanon, the old city, Wat Chedi, Wat Phra Singh).

==> For the elephant sanctuary: any recommendations? Morning or afternoon visit?

==> It might seem ambitious, but we're considering a day trip to Chiang Rai—though it's not a must. Yes, we know it means ~6 hours of travel in one day.

- direct flight on the morning of 04/24 to Krabi ==> Railay - Phang Nga ==> this part isn't finalized yet (we won't stay in Krabi).

For those who've been there, which part of the south would be best weather-wise during this period?

We'd stay in the south until 04/28 and take a 8 PM flight to BKK.

- BKK on 04/29, 04/30, and part of 05/01 before our flight to London at 11 PM.

We'll hit the must-see/classic spots there.

If you have time to share some insights, I'd really appreciate it.

Right now, with the war raging in Iran and affecting all the neighboring countries of the Persian Gulf, many airports are completely closed to all traffic.

Several airlines like Qatar Airways, Emirates, and others have almost completely halted their operations.

Whether in the Middle East or Africa, many travelers are stranded—maybe for a long time... A heartfelt thought for them and the struggles this will cause.

Four months ago, I was in Kenya with a flight booked through Qatar Airways... I can’t even imagine how I’d react if I were stuck there now. ??

Wishing all these travelers courage, patience, and success in making it back home.

Hey everyone,

Yesterday, I checked the Thailand forum to see if there were any questions to answer, but not much was happening—it was pretty quiet. Then I scrolled through the Southeast Asia section and realized that, even though Burma (Myanmar) was included, there weren’t many posts about it... I’ve only been there once, back in 1987, so it’s hard to create a photo thread about multiple trips like I sometimes do for Thailand. Still, that one trip was packed with unusual adventures, so I thought I’d share a few stories from it.

Since I didn’t take any notes at the time, this is all from memory—it’s not an exhaustive travel journal and isn’t meant to help plan a future trip to Myanmar.

Don’t expect photos; there won’t be any. I have some, but they’re slides that would need scanning and editing one by one to fix the wear and tear of time—way too much work.

The Context.

Back then (reminder: 1987), I was volunteering in Paris at the counter of a travel agency on Rue des Écoles. The agency was part of a well-known organization based in Mulhouse that mostly offered scheduled flights to Asia, charter flights to the Mediterranean, and flights to Mali with their own plane. They also had a few rare "roots"-style trips to certain destinations—trips where you didn’t bring your tennis racket but were ready to soak in everything, even if it meant tough conditions.

I’d already been to Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines in Asia. The director knew this, so he asked me to accompany a group to Burma. At the time, tours to Burma were already being sold by competitors, but they all had to go through the state-run agency, Touristburma (buses and hotels for tourists, and they only showed you what they wanted you to see—kind of like traveling in North Korea today). The service was only payable in dollars at the official exchange rate (which was six times worse than the black market rate, mind you...), and since it went through the state agency, all the money ended up with the junta.

My job was to do everything *without* going through Touristburma, which was completely illegal there. Nothing would be booked in advance. Back then, the Burmese visa was only valid for 8 days/7 nights, and since clients were paying for the experience, the itinerary was planned ahead. I’d have to find transport and a guide on the black market as soon as I arrived.

The clients weren’t misled—they knew from the start that the trip would be off the books, that officially we’d be a small group of friends (not an agency), unlike the truth (Touristburma wasn’t mandatory for individual travelers), and that it would be challenging. They also knew their trip would cost 3-4 times less while giving them a much better experience of Burma. As for pretending to be a group of friends, there were only six of us, so it worked out.

To cover all expenses (accommodation, transport, excursions), the agency gave me a sufficient budget. They also gave me the *same* budget a second time, which was strictly for bribing officials who might cause trouble, for backshish (tips), and, if needed, to "help" me get out of prison.

Before I left, I was thoroughly briefed by another guy who’d led the previous trip (he’d dealt with all the initial challenges). He explained everything I needed to know, what to watch out for, and advised me on what to bring as "gifts" (samples of well-known perfumes, specific cigarette and whisky brands, etc.). For the perfume samples, I rallied my family, friends, and even stores. For the rest, I’d pick things up at the duty-free shops in Don Muang (Bangkok’s only airport at the time)—I had the budget for it.

I couldn’t wait to leave...

I’m not really a regular contributor to VoyageForum, but every time Kate and I travel, she encourages me to write a travel journal and publish it. And I must admit, it’s a very enjoyable intellectual exercise, though not always easy. As a VF contributor whose journals I’ve read once said, this retrospective work not only helps preserve memories but also provides a fruitful moment of introspection by bringing back emotions and feelings.

Kate and I spent a week in Istanbul. For her, who had already visited, it was a return; for me, it was a discovery.

As we’ve now made a habit of, I write the texts, and she posts her photos. We hope this illustrated story, crafted together, will revive beautiful sensations for those who know the city and inspire others to discover it. Here we go!
