It will be possible to exchange US currency, but a 10% fee will be charged. Canadian dollars, Euro, UK pounds and Swiss francs can be exchanged for Cuban convertible pesos without the 10% commission fee. It will be possible to exchange Cuban convertible pesos back to US or Canadian dollars at the international airports before leaving the country.
Effective November 8th, 2004 all the goods and services are priced in Cuban Convertible pesos only. The Convertible peso keeps its value as one US dollar. Currency exchange from US dollars in Convertible pesos will be subject to a 10% charge while transactions from Canadian dollars, Euro, UK pounds and Swiss Francs are not going to be taxed when exchanged into Convertible pesos, so, we advise Canadians to bring Canadian dollars. Accepted are Visa, Thomas Cook & American Express Travelers’ cheques and Visa & Master Card credit cards. All must be drawn on Canadian Banks.
