Dear Patrick,
You have the right to ride motorbikes in
Phu Quoc, no worries.

HOW TO RIDE A MOTORBIKE IN
PHU QUOC
1. If you have never ridden a bike before, the best way for a motorbike experience is to book an Easy Rider tour.
2. Rent only high quality Japanese motorbikes, do not rent Chinese bikes for reasons of safety and reliability.
3. Always keep a Sea Star resort’s card and a map of
Phu Quoc on you. When get lost, just ask the locals the way by pointing at the place on the map. They are eager to help.
4.
Phu Quoc police do not care about your driving licence. (It is not valid in
Viet Nam anyway!) as long as you wear a helmet and do not exceed the speed limit of 40km/h.
5. Always look out for kids, look out for cows, look out for dogs and look out for vehicles popping out of small passages! Be careful of the exhaust pipe if you don’t want a hot ‘souvenir’ in your leg from
Phu Quoc.
6. Check the bikes carefully before starting your trip: brakes, horn, lights, petrol...
7. Sun glasses and masks are recommended if you don’t want
Phu Quoc signature red dust to get into your eyes and lungs.
8. Honking means look out! I’m coming or I’m here! If your horn does not work, just shout out “Yo Yo” at the top of your voice as you are approaching! “ (Yo yo” also meams “Cheers” in Vietnamese.)
9. Basically the motorbikes drive on the right side of the road and cars, trucks and busses take the left side. But not always!
10. If a truck is honking behind you, just move fast to the right side of the road and let him pass. The traffic priority ranking here is: “The most powerful wins” (means: trucks, busses, cars, motorbikes, bicycles, pedestrians)
As long as you observe these 10 guidelines, the motorbike trip in
Phu Quoc is absolutely a funny adventure. So GOOD LUCK!!!
We wish you enjoy you stay here with us!
