Hi everyone,

I’m just passing through the city very quickly (one afternoon, one night, one morning) and I’d love to see as many must-see spots as possible. I’ve put together a little itinerary—let me know what you think!

Visit to Varosliget Park Heroes’ Square Quick stop in the southern part of Margitsziget (for the photo with the Budapest sign!!!) Gül Baba Mausoleum and Rose Garden Fisherman’s Bastion Church of the Assumption of Our Lady of Budavár Tóth Árpád stny promenade Budavar Palace Freedom Square Parliament

This is just a first draft. I still have a few months to tweak it.

Thanks!

Stéphane.

What will your mode of transport be?

If you're leaving by car, there's Memento Park in the southwest outskirts, close to the motorway.

Your list includes the classics. I'm not convinced about the relevance of going to Margaret Island so soon after visiting another large park (which is more interesting). The classic photo spot in Budapest is Parliament viewed from Fisherman’s Bastion or next to Kolodko’s little rabbit (at the top terminus of the funicular, near the castle entrance). It doesn’t say "Budapest," but it’s pretty much the same thing! :) There are mini-sculptures by Kolodko all over Budapest—you can do a little circuit, kind of like the comic book murals in Brussels.

Otherwise, the Great Synagogue and the New York Café (at the other end of the Jewish Quarter) are interesting, as well as the city center (Vörösmarty tér, St. Stephen’s Basilica, the Opera, Paris Court Hotel). If you're staying in the center near Deák Ferenc tér, it’ll be quicker to get anywhere.

Hi there,

I’m planning a trip to Budapest in October, and I might stay near Heroes’ Square. I’m wondering if that’s too far from the main tourist spots and whether it’s easy to get around by public transport from there?

Line 1 of the metro (historic) runs along Andrássy út and passes by there—it’s less than 10 minutes to get to the center (or a 30-minute walk). Budapest’s public transport is really well-developed.
