Je suis étudiant et je vais faire mon stage de fin d'études à San Diego, en Californie pendant 3 mois, avec une amie.
Je commence mon stage le mois prochain, en mars.
Nous comptons aller là-bas en tant que touristes étant donné qu'on a le droit de rester sur le sol américain pour une durée de 90 jours maximum avec le visa waiver.
J'aimerais donc savoir si certains d'entre vous (notamment des étudiants ayant déjà effectués un stage de 3 mois aux USA en venant comme touristes) ont rencontré des problèmes lors du passage à la douane ou avec les officers de l'immigration américaine dans les aéroports.
Je précise que notre stage ne sera aucunement rémunéré et que tout est à nos frais durant le séjour !!
J'ai plusieurs amis qui m'ont dit que cela ne posera pas problème du moment que nous disons aux officiers que nous venons pour du tourisme. Mais est-ce que cela ne risque t-il pas d'éveiller des soupçons si ils voient que nous restons 90 jours pile poil ?
Parce que j'ai une amie qui est parti pour un stage de 88 jours aux USA (avec un visa waiver) et l'officier lui a dit que c'était "limite" , même en touriste :S
Après tout, cela est dans nos droits de rester jusqu'à 90 jours, non?! Donc, ils ne devraient rien dire ou contester même si la loi le stipule !
Bref, qu'en pensez-vous ? De toute manière, il est trop tard pour un visa J1 et j'ai déjà acheté mon billet d'avion AR qui plus est !
Sinon, quel budget me conseillerez-vous pour 3 mois à San Diego (hors logement) sachant que mon amie et moi comptons voyager un peu ( SF, LV et LA) ??
Je confirme ce que dit Nemo, même non rémunéré, il faut obtenir un visa pour faire le stage. Un stage est un moyen d'acquérir de l'expérience cela a donc une valeur, même si non payé.
Il est très possible que les soupçons soient éveillés, alors il faudra se taire à propos du stage et démontrer que vous venez uniquement pour du tourisme...que vous avez les moyens financiers et que vous allez rentrer en France dans moins de 91 jours. Ne pas avoir aucun document qui pourrait vous trahir (emails de l'employeur, lettre, etc.)
J'aimerais juste apporter un commentaire concernant "vos droits". Vous n'êtes pas Américaines, vous n'avez aucun droit aux États-Unis. Le pays peut vous refuser l'entrée peu importe les raisons. C'est un privilège d'entrer dans un pays qui n'est pas le nôtre. Ce n'est pas un droit.

En 2008, je suis partie 88 jours aux États-Unis pour y travailler (dans un centre équestre). J'aurais donc du prendre un Visa J1 mais pour des raisons financières, je ne l'ai pas fait.
Mon passage à l'immigration fut quelque peu... long. Le gars m'a posé des tas de questions pendant 1/2h. Ca allait de "que venez-vous faire ici ?" à "où avez-vous connue la personne chez qui vous logerez ?" en passant par "quels types de chevaux allez-vous monter chez cette personne ?" 🤪 Il m'a aussi demandé quels étaient mes moyens de paiement, si j'étais déjà venue aux États-Unis avant, quel travail j'exerçais en France...etc.
Il avait très probablement un doute quand à mon honnêteté vu qu'il m'a posé des questions formulées différemment plusieurs fois. Il faisait tout pour que "je crache le morceau" en fait! D'ailleurs, j'y suis retourné cet été (pour 6 semaines) et cette fois ça a été très vite.
Le tout c'est de bien montrer que tu es vraiment là pour faire du tourisme (quitte à raconter que tu vas faire le tour de la Californie histoire d'être crédible) et donc de ne pas faire de gaffe.

My name is Deborah, I’m French. I’m married and have two children. I’m a clinical psychologist specializing in psychotraumatology, and I’m also pursuing medical studies.
For some time now, I’ve been seriously considering moving to the United States. My long-term goal is to practice medicine in the U.S., with a particular interest in forensic pathology. Our departure time is getting closer (we have less than 2 years left—it’s both a long time and so short!). To start preparing seriously, we’ll need quite a bit of info. If anyone knows the rates charged by movers for a crate to French Polynesia, or what pitfalls to avoid (I know you can get quotes directly from movers, but I’d love insights from actual customers😉).

Actually, I’m currently doing a postgraduate diploma in pediatric respiratory physiotherapy and want to specialize in that area.
