Suis censé aller travailler quelques mois à Nouméa à partir du mois prochain. Tout a été dit la dessus sauf que les choses changent et j'ai l'impression que l'ambiance est de plus en plus tendue sur place. Je suis quelqu'un qui a l'habitude de travailler dans des quartiers métissés à 200% et j'adore me mélanger à des gens qui ne me ressemblent pas; seulement, j'ai l'impression que maintenant la majorité des kanaks est hostile à la "présence" française et aime le faire sentir aux gens. Est ce que cela est perceptible dans la vie quotidienne ? Est il inconcevable de voir des blancs et des kanaks trainer ensemble ?
Ce sont des questions un peu naïves mais c'est par là que commencent les grands philosophes
alors qu'il te faudrait justement plusieurs réponses de personnes d'univers et de milieux différents !

Pour ma part, je suis d'origine métro, je suis arrivée sur le territoire il y a 8 mois environ.
Je vis à Nouméa.
Déjà premier point : les choses sont très différentes selon que tu es en brousse, sur la grande terre, dans les îles, au nord, au sud, à l'est ou à l'ouest... ça peut paraître bête de préciser ça mais vraiment la vie est très différente d'un lieu à l'autre !!
donc moi je suis à Nouméa, je ne ressens pas d'hostilité particulière au quotidien de la part des calédoniens. Je les trouve même plus sympas, avenants, souriants, agréables, tranquilles et "casse pas la tête" quoi !! quand je fais mes courses par exemple, il n'y a pas une fois sans que ne serait-ce un sourire soit échangé avec quelqu'un. ça aussi ça paraît bête mais malheureusement ça se perd en métropole !!!
je ne me suis jamais sentie regardée comme une "zoreille parasite de la calédonie" !!
mais le regard qu'on porte sur les autres à une incidence sur le regard que les autres portent sur nous aussi, il ne faut pas l'oublier.
tout dépend en effet d'abord de ton propre comportement.
je suis en contact avec la population mélanésienne, wallisienne, calédoniennes d'origine ou d'adoption et métros de part mon taf (je travaille dans le domaine social). j'arrive donc à être dans la découverte d'autre cultures, d'autres repères, etc. je vis un réel dépaysement.
je suis très ouverte et très en demande de ça, je suis là principalement pour ça d'ailleurs et je suis servie !!!
mais il y a un bémol : dans la vie au quotidien, en amitié j'entends, je suis entourée principalement de métros, on se retrouve sur un projet commun, sur les loisirs, etc.
autre chose : j'en ai honte... mais on vit aussi dans les mêmes quartiers... ceux-ci peuvent en effet être étiquetés "quartiers blancs"/"quartiers kanak". je n'y suis pour rien... mais c'est clair que j'y participe... pfffff
est-ce qu'on voit des blancs et des kanak trainer ensemble ?
à Nouméa c'est rare, mais bien sûr ça arrive !! et encore, c'est rare... je n'en suis pas certaine, je n'y ai pas vraiment fait attention en fait !
mais quand les uns et les autres s'invitent, à ma connaissance, c'est plus dans un cadre intime qu'en bar, au restau ou en boîte.
et puis, il y a aussi parfois des réalités pas très très belles, genre dans certains bars ou boîtes, une sélection à l'entrée... qui ne va pas forcément dans le sens du métissage...
mais bon pour résumer, tout dépend de ta propre position, de ton approche de ton aventure, de ce que tu cherches, etc. et surtout du lieu où tu es !! j'ai fait la connaissance dernièrement d'un couple métro, qui loue une case en tribu sur une île, qui est intégré à la vie collective de la tribu et qui vit une expérience exceptionnelle, extrêmement riche humainement. alors tu vois c'est dur de faire des généralités 😉

Ca m'aide beaucoup, même sur internet tu fais du social ! Je pense qu'un des problèmes est que nombre de metros qui débarquent à Nouméa ne sont pas des gens habitués à voyager et ont atterri là bas comme ils auraient pu atterrir dans le sud de la France.
Tu fais preuve de beaucoup d'ouverture et c'est ce qui te rend un grand service. Moi je suis dans la médecine et donc en général on est trés en contact avec les gens puisqu'on connait leurs problemes les plus intimes. J'espere apprendre beaucoup. Je n'ai pas encore pris mon billet (j'ai eu très mal au dos et c'est pour ca que j'ai retardé mon départ mais ça on s'en f... fiche ...).
Ces quelques conversations m'ont grandement donné envie de venir voir à quoi ressemble une société d'outre-mer. Comptes tu rester encore longtemps sur place ?
Cela fait 1 an que nous sommes arrivés et je suis d'accord avec ton témoignage... je pense que tu as bien résumé les choses. C'est vrai que c'est une situation très complexe et pleine de contrastes, il est très difficile voire impossible d'être "tranché"...
Je profite de ta gentille réponse à engalèreman lol pour te soutirer une autre information : tu dis que tu travailles dans le social et moi je viens de terminer mes études en Droit et je cherche à travailler dans des organismes qui travailent dans les droits humains et/ou avec les peuples autochtones, alors je me demandais si tu savais quels sont les besoins dans ce secteur en Nouvelle-Caledonie ? Sais-tu s'il y a beaucoup d'ONG (Hors ou à l'exterieur de Noumea) ?

sinon, pour ta question concernant la durée de mon aventure calédonienne, je suis d'abord partie il y a 9 mois en me fixant la "durée psychologique supportable" (concept de mon invention !) d'un an. mais au bout de quelques mois, j'ai compris que ça allait probablement durer plus longtemps ! j'ai aussi compris que je n'allais m'investir pleinement ici que lorsque j'allais cesser de me poser cette question. donc voilà, maintenant c'est décidé, je reste tant que j'apprends et je découvre des choses, tant que j'y trouve mon compte.
je viens de changer de travail et ai signé un contrat de 3 ans (renouvelable tous les ans... j'ai donc un échappatoire possible au cas où !). à voir donc 🙂
enfin, chipo (on a l'air fin avec nos pseudos là hein ?!!), concernant ta question, il existe sur le caillou un réseau associatif intervenant dans de nombreux domaines sociaux.

je ne suis pas certaine qu'on puisse parler d'ONG... ce sont des associations recevant des financement des Provinces ou du Gouvernement... bon en même temps je n'ai pas étudier la spécificité du statut des ONG alors je te laisse seul juge de la chose !!!
autre précision : ce sont des assos qui s'adressent à l'ensemble de la population, quelque soit l'origine ethnique. ici tout le monde est calédonien (enfin sauf les expat comme moi quoi !).
quel type d'actions t'intéresserait ?
pour le moment je ne connais que le réseau me concernant, je pense qu'il y a aussi des assos de défense de la culture mélanésienne par exemple, dans le domaine environnemental aussi, etc.
mais là... plus difficile pour moi de donner des infos.

En fait je m'interesse à toute la palette des droits humains et activités sociales pour le développement mais on va dire que ma spécialisation concerne surtout les conflits socio-environnementaux entre peuples autochtones et activités minières. Et j'ai eu l'occasion d'assister à des conférences où des membres de communauté calédoniennes venaient expliquer certaines difficultés dans ce secteur, ce qui m'a beaucoup touché et c'est pourquoi je m'interesse depuis à la Nouvelle-Calédonie :)

Voilà, eh bien pour résumer je n'ai pas du tout aimé Nouméa (je trouve que c'est l'apartheid dans cette ville) et j'adore Lifoun ou j'exerce maintenant mon metier et adore la vie qu'on peut mener ici à decouvrir réellement les gens et le fonctionnement extremement complexe et passionnant des tribus.
