Hi there, We’re heading to the Dominican Republic for two weeks in January. We’d like to get from Bayahibe to Las Terrenas using public transport. Is it doable in a day? Thanks for your help!

Hi there,

Yes, it's totally doable. And it costs next to nothing (but pay in pesos).

Bayahibé - La Romana: guaguas (shared minibuses) run very frequently from sunrise until just after sunset, so no need for schedules. These guaguas also serve Dominicus.

La Romana - Santo Domingo: same deal. But you’ll get off about 20 km before the capital at the "parada Samaná". To find your way: you’ll pass 2.5 km from Las Américas Airport in Santo Domingo, which is well signposted, then there’s a toll (but no stop to pay in that direction). You’re almost there. Just shout "Parada Samaná" loudly, and they’ll drop you off right in front of the relevant bus terminal. On the left side of the terminal, you’ll find Caribe Tours coaches, which don’t go to Las Terrenas. On the left side of the terminal (the two sides are separated by a wall), you’ll see the buses you need. The schedules are painted on the wall. See the attached image.

For the return trip, you’ll have to go through the capital. In that case, it’s better to take either: - the comfortable "expreso Romana" coach (Santo Domingo - La Romana). Departures are very frequent (every 20 minutes if I remember correctly). Both terminals are in the same neighborhood (Parque Enriquillo). Then, in La Romana, take the guagua to Bayahibé.

or: - if the service has resumed (check by phone), the direct bus. See the attached image. Best regards
