Hi everyone, I’m starting to plan my next trip to Southeast Asia this winter (2.5 months, leaving in early December), and here’s a rough outline of my route—I’d love to share it with you and hear your thoughts and tips.

- I’ll start in Bangkok and already have three spots I’ve marked: Ayutthaya, Kanchanaburi, and Uthai Thani (I haven’t been to any of these places yet). - Next, I’d like to cross the country from west to east to reach the Laos border. I’d love suggestions for any interesting stops along this route—I don’t know this part of Thailand at all... - Then I’ll head into Laos, probably at Savannakhet (you can usually get a visa at the border). - > I’m tempted to spend a week in Hoi An, Vietnam, since I loved that city and the area when I visited two years ago. No visa needed for Vietnam now, so it could be a nice little detour. On the map, it doesn’t look too far, but I know you’ve got to be careful with these things, and I’m not sure if it’s a good idea. Any opinions on this? - Back to Laos (maybe via Dakta), and I’ll head south along the Mekong, probably doing the Bolaven Plateau loop that I missed last time. Then Paksé, the 4,000 Islands... I’ve been before, but I’d happily go back. - Crossing into Cambodia, I’ll follow the Mekong down to Phnom Penh (I know this area and love how untouristy it is). From there, I’ll probably spend a few days in Kep (quieter than Kampot). Still undecided, though. - Then back to Thailand (BKK), likely by plane from Phnom Penh since the borders between the two countries are currently closed (plus, let’s be honest, Cambodian roads... ;-). We’ll see how things look when the time comes. - After that, I’d like to explore southern Thailand, taking it slow with short hops. I’ve got my eye on Khao Sok National Park, and I’ve heard good things about Krabi... Again, I don’t know this region well, so any info or tips would be great.

So, I think this should be doable in 2.5 months, especially since I prefer short hops of 300 km max to avoid getting too tired, and I like staying 2-3 days in each place to explore. Plus, I’ll take a week off to relax if I find a spot I love—maybe by the sea for some real downtime.

Hi, just a quick note mainly for Samsong, even if he’s still giving me the silent treatment. I’ve been in Nan since yesterday and... I love it! So thanks, Thierry. It’s exactly the kind of place I’d been dreaming of... Even if communication is a bit tough, it’s not impossible. They don’t even know the most basic English words! Everyone laughs and they’re the first to pull out their phones to... translate. They’re even quicker on the uptake than I am. And then there’s the time I say Nan (pronounced "Nane"). They don’t understand me. After a while (sometimes a long one), they reply: "Ah, Nan?" (pronounced "Nane") 😵🤳😃

The town is exactly how you described it back in 2022. Though I’m surprised to find so many trendy, slightly intellectual "Cafés." Apparently, coffee—excellent everywhere—is king in Nan. It feels like a university town. And it seems pretty lively at night! But for now, I’m going to bed early. I caught a nasty cold, which didn’t stop me from walking 12 km this morning. But I came back to my accommodation by 3 PM (gorgeous and luxurious with top-notch service for 800 baht—even a cute local welcome gift this morning, plus other unexpected touches like a bottle of honey and chrysanthemum flowers for tea. The lady must’ve guessed I was coming down with something yesterday). I thought about going out for dinner but didn’t have the energy. I think I’ve got at least 39°C fever...

Anyway, I’m sending you this message, Thierry, because you mentioned a daily bus to Chiang Rai, so I didn’t look into it. But now it’s a real problem—no buses to Chiang Rai, only taxis. At least 2,500 baht for the cheapest one! I’ll check the bus station directly tomorrow. Online, it’s all taxis, no buses. I’d like to explore the countryside/mountains if I can find an affordable driver. Any ideas for destinations or itineraries? Thanks.

I’m heading back to Thailand soon, and from what I’ve been reading, it seems some beaches/islands are infested with these dreaded sandflies!

I’ve noted the remedy: rub the bitten area with 90% alcohol, then apply soothing cream.

But prevention is better than cure!

Which areas should I avoid right now?

Are there seasons that are more prone to these itchy invasions than others?

I’ve already stayed in Hua Hin, Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, Koh Tao, Krabi, and Phuket without any issues like this.

I’d love to keep it that way...

Visite du Temple Blanc, Black house, et surtout, Long Neck village qui m'intéresse particulièrement. J'aimerais savoir si cette agence est fiable. Arrival – 2 nights in Bangkok (any hotel recommendations? Very quiet, near Chinatown or by the river)

Train or taxi (which app should I use for Thailand?) to Phetchaburi – 2 nights (any hotel recommendations?)

Daytime train to Surat Thani – 1 night there (any hotel recommendations?)

Pick up the rental car and head to Khao Sok – 1 night there (any hotel recommendations?)

Drive to Ko Kho Khao – 3 nights – relaxation (any hotel recommendations?)

Drive to Phang Nga Bay – 1 night (any base recommendations?)

Excursion in the bay, then drive to Krabi – 2 nights (any hotel recommendations) or any other spot with beautiful, quiet beaches that you might know?

Return to Surat Thani – overnight train to Bangkok, then Ayutthaya (any hotel recommendations?)

Visit the site and transfer to the airport – sniff, time to head back!

If you have other suggestions, keeping in mind the trip’s vibe: beach time without crowds or entertainment, a bit of nature, a bit of culture, no stress... No domestic flights and charming accommodations (not at 150 € per night, even though the budget is reasonable!)

Not sure I’ll follow them all, but all your ideas are welcome! 😉

Les représentants du gouvernement voudrait un tourisme de luxe plutôt qu'un tourisme de masse. Cela pour compenser que les "bulles touristiques" ne seront pas prêtes en juillet. Donc sélection par le porte monnaie. Les hôteliers 3 et 4 étoiles et professionnels du tourisme ne sont pas d'accord. Cela profiterait surtout aux hôtels de luxe 5 étoiles. pour le moment le gouvernement se concentre sur le tourisme intérieur en injectant 718 millions de dollars, cela profitera aux hôtels et restaurants, compagnies intérieures, agence de voyages Thaï. Il est clair que le gouvernement veut profiter de la pandémie pour stopper le tourisme de masse qu'il trouve nocive pour l'environnement et monter en gamme.

ça fait plusieurs semaines que je vous lis et je décide enfin de créer un compte et de me lancer... Je pars pour la Thailande fin novembre pour 6 semaines et je n'ai pas préparé grand chose. Savez-vous si il y a la possibilité de passer la frontière au niveau du Col des 3 Pagodes ? j'ai lu qu'il y avait un refuge pour chiens. Certains y ont déjà passé du temps ? - Kanchanaburi : ça a l'air un peu touristique, mais étant sur la route de Sangkhla, je me dis, pourquoi ne pas y passer quelques jours ? Le côté historique ne m'attire pas vraiment donc avez-vous des conseils ? visites, randos, expériences, rencontres ? Hello, We’re heading to Thailand for 26 days (excluding flights) next July with our two teens (12 and 15 years old). My husband and I have been there several times before they were born—so that’s 15 years ago—and I’m a bit worried about some of the changes that might have happened since, especially with the rise in tourism... I’d also like to keep a pace that allows us to settle in a bit and enjoy local life beyond just the main sights. Plus, we’re pretty active. For now, our plan looks like this:

Arrival in Bangkok, where we’re thinking of spending several days (minimum 4) Chiang Mai for about a week 2 or 3 islands in the Gulf Return to Bangkok for 2 days before departure.

We’re pretty set on Bangkok and Chiang Mai, but we’re unsure about which islands to visit—I’ve read such mixed things that I’m even wondering if we should consider the coast instead. Organization-wise, I’d love any tips or feedback on whether we need to book in advance at this time of year, which transport options to prioritize (train, bus, or plane), and of course, any suggestions for stops or routes. Hi everyone, I’m a die-hard fan of India, but it’s time I discovered Thailand too to broaden my Asian horizons. I’m heading there on January 19, 2025, for a 46-day trip (no visa needed as I’m French). I’ve pored over a few guidebooks and travel blogs. Based on what caught my interest, I’ve put together a rough itinerary and list of sights. But since I know absolutely nothing about Thailand, I’m kind of flying blind here. Since I’m not exactly a spring chicken anymore, I’ve opted for a few bases where I’ll stay several days in the same place. That way, I won’t have to change locations and hotels every day or so, packing and unpacking my suitcase constantly. Instead, I plan to explore the surrounding area each day, within a maximum radius of 50 to 70 km. So, first question: Is that kind of round-trip distance manageable in a day in Thailand? In India, renting a car for a day—with a driver—currently costs around 35 to 40 € per day. Knowing that 1,300 to 1,500 THB would be my absolute max, and even then, only if I don’t rent a car every single day. Which brings me to my second question: Am I being unrealistic? Otherwise—third question—once I’m settled in the city I’ve chosen as my base, can I get around within that 50–70 km radius using public transport? I’ve already booked all my hotels—with free cancellation—on booking.com at an average price of 950/1,000 THB per night. Does that put me in a good range for value for money? Or am I dreaming?

Here’s my plan:

BANGKOK (13 days, 14 nights): 1 week for exploring Bangkok – Kanchanaburi/Erawan National Park? – Ayutthaya/Lopburi? – Muang Boran – Samut – Songkram/Amphawa

Bangkok -> Chiang Mai by overnight train in first-class sleeper

CHIANG MAI (6 days/6 nights): Mae Hong Son – Hot springs – Chiang Dao – caves – Lamphun – other places to be decided on the spot based on what’s worth seeing and transport options

Chiang Mai -> Chiang Rai

CHIANG RAI (7 days/8 nights): Fang – Tha Ton – Chiang Saen – Doi Tung – Chiang Khong – Doi Ang Khang, Phu Chi Fah, etc.

Chiang Rai -> Phrae

PHRAE (4 days/5 nights): Lampang and surrounding areas, depending on what’s interesting to see

Phrae -> Loei

Loei -> Buriram

Encore une fois je sollicite l'aide de ce forum pour la préparation de mon voyage. Je vous remercie par avance pour votre aide!

Nous serons en Thaïlande pour tout le mois de mars 2020, en famille avec un pti bout de 3 ans. Ce voyage s'inscrit dans un voyage de plusieurs mois en Asie, qui nous verra arriver à Bangkok en provenance du Sri Lanka (début mars), et repartir de Krabi (fin mars) pour nous diriger vers Kuala Lumpur et la Malaisie pour le mois d'avril.

Nous voulons consacrer ce mois en Thaïlande (où nous n'avons jamais voyagé) à descendre tout doucement de Bangkok à Krabi en prenant notre temps.

Tout d'abord avez-vous des infos particulières sur le mois de mars en Thaïlande (centre et sud)? Des zones à éviter? De ce que j'ai lu c'est plutôt une bonne période en faisant attention aux fortes chaleurs.

Dans un premier temps le but est de descendre via le train, qui est un moyen de déplacement que l'on apprécie particulièrement, de Bangkok jusqu'à Chumphon en faisant des étapes intermédiaire :

Auriez-vous des conseils? Ou des idées d'autres étapes dans le secteur?

Ensuite de Chumphon, l'idée était de se diriger vers la côte Andaman pour se diriger tout doucement vers Krabi :

Ranong, je ne connais absolument pas ce secteur mais j'ai lu beaucoup de choses qui m'ont donné envie sur cette région et les îles qui s'y trouvent.

Khao lak et la baie de Phang Nga

Et enfin Krabi

Si nous avons le temps nous rajouterons quelques jours sur une île dans le secteur de Krabi (Ko Lanta, Phi Phi? ) mais je n'ai pas encore creusé la question, donc si vous avez des suggestions c'est avec plaisir ^^

Le ministre de la Santé, Anutin Charnvirakul, avait déjà suscité une grande fureur en suggérant que les touristes occidentaux qui ne portent pas de masque devraient être "expulsés" du pays. Bonjour, je vais passer 3 semaines en Thaïlande en mars, avec mon mari c’est notre premier voyage dans ce pays, nous organisons tout nous-mêmes. Avant de réserver des hôtels, j’aimerais bien savoir si notre projet est réaliste. J’ai déjà réservé la 1e nuit à Bangkok et les 5 nuits suivantes dont 3 nuits à Hua Hin pour se remettre du décalage horaire et pour faire quand même un peu de plage et 2 nuits à Phetchaburi pour voir le parc national Kaeng Krachan. Voilà ce que j’imagine pour la suite et où j’ai besoin de vos lumières : revenir à Bangkok et y rester 3-4 jours, puis le pont de la rivière Kwai (1 nuit), ensuite 2 nuits à Ayuttaya, 2 à Sukhotai, 1 à Lampang, 3 à Chiang Rai pour voir le triangle d’or, et pour finir 3 à Chiang Mai d’où nous prenons l’avion pour le Laos. Ce qui fait en tout 15 nuitées à prévoir. Ma question aux connaisseurs : faut-il rester plus longtemps à certaines places et moins à d’autres ? Comment se déplacer d’un endroit à l’autre? D’ores et déjà merci pour les réponses à venir.

Le projet est encore assez vague mais j'essaie de collecter le maximum d'infos et d'avis sur le sujet.

Concrètement je souhaiterais sur un ou deux jours organiser une cérémonie sur la plage, puis une soirée avec tout les gens que nous avons invité.

Il n'est pas question de mariage legal, toute cette partie la sera faite en France.

Est de que vous auriez des suggestions de lieu, d'endroit pour se loger, de recommandations ou d'expérience personnelle à partager?

L'idée globale est de pouvoir loger un certain nombre de personne au même endroit dans un cadre sympa et d'organiser une cérémonie + fête le soir.

avec mon compagnon nous partons pour un peu plus de 2 semaines en Thailande et notre projet de voyage se porte sur un itinéraire à partir de Bangkok vers Sukhothai, puis MaeSot, Chang rai, Mae Sariang et revenir à Chang Mai.

Bon c'est un premier jet, on affinera sur place.

Je cherche des renseignements sur le trajet Bangkok vers Sukhotai et ça me paraît compliqué.

Nous hésitons entre le train et le bus.Ce sont les horaires qui ne sont pas cool.Arrivée à Sukhothai en pleine nuit!!!!

Nous avons pensé faire une halte à Lopburi mais ça ne simplifie pas vraiment les choses.

Car je compte me faire un circuit et terminer par la Thailande.Et je vais peut-être gardé ça pour la fin.Mais je crois pas qu'il y a des gros diamètres de rotin dans ce pays.

Cela me donnera l'occasion de voir un artisan et d'être au contact avec un local.Il y a pas beaucoup de travail juste traiter et cintrer la tige de rotin .J'aurai bien ramener ça avec moi mais c'est assez volumineux 1m50 sur 1m50 au moins.

Est ce que la douane Fr ne vont pas le massacrer?

Hello, it’s been a while since I last asked for your help on this forum—I’ve really missed it! I hope you’re all doing well, whether you're new or returning members.

I’m planning a trip from February 6 to 18, 2027, with my sister (we’re 47 and 50—time flies!). I’ve got my eye on a flight from Paris that lands in Bangkok on February 7 at 3 PM, with a return flight from Bangkok on February 18 at noon.

My sister has never been to this destination, and it’ll be her first time in Asia. Her priorities: beaches, sunshine, and cocktails by the shore. For me, I love that too, but I also enjoy exploring, nature, forests, and a bit of comfort (mixing guesthouses and higher-end hotels with pools). A little evening entertainment would be great, but not too much—good cocktails in a nice atmosphere rather than a rave party ;-). And I can’t help but dream of taking her on a little trek through a tropical forest (guaranteed memories and laughs, though she might curse me at the time) and showing her some karst landscapes.

I’ve been to Thailand before, but it was 15 years ago...

The idea is to give her a taste of Bangkok for 1 or 2 nights, a few days on an island (but which one...?), a tropical forest excursion with 1 or 2 nights on-site (Khao Sok?), and then back to Bangkok.

For the "main" island, even after reading the *Guide du Routard*, I’m still undecided. It’s hard to find a place that ticks all the boxes without feeling as crowded as the French Riviera in August: Koh Lanta? Khao Lak (though it’s not an island)? Koh Tao (I could maybe get my PADI certification, but I’m afraid she’d get bored, and it might be better to save that for a solo trip)? Koh Yao Yai (I worry we’d be bored in the evenings)? What a dilemma!

I’m looking for a beach spot within 3 hours max of Bangkok for the end of my trip (January). I know full well I won’t find that postcard-perfect vibe of the more remote islands! But I don’t have a choice. If you’ve got any ideas... no high-rises, obviously not Pattaya, somewhere quiet, swimming possible, a hotel right on the beach (and not too dirty, the beach itself!) I’ve looked at hotels around Ko Samet or, across from it, on the mainland. I spotted the Bann Pae Cabana. But nothing really exciting on either side. New ideas welcome! 🙂

Hi everyone, We’re heading to Thailand from February 3rd to 24th, as a couple (37 years old). We love local cuisine, street food, small restaurants, and quiet bars for a drink in the evening. We’re also big fans of turquoise waters and white sand beaches. Our planned itinerary looks like this:

Chiang Mai: 4 or 5 days to rediscover the city, temples, and markets. We already visited the Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai provinces a few years ago and loved it, so we’re heading back for a few days there :)

Bangkok: 3 days, with a day trip to Ayutthaya.

Then heading down to Trat province to enjoy the islands of Koh Chang, Koh Mak, and Koh Kood.

We’ve read that the southern islands (Koh Samui, Koh Tao, Koh Phi Phi, Koh Phangan, Koh Lipe, etc.) are often packed this time of year, so we’re looking for quieter islands but with some accommodations and restaurants/bars. For reference, we really enjoyed Koh Rong Samloem, Koh Rong, Phu Quoc, and the Philippine islands. 👍 Does this itinerary fit well with what we’re looking for? Or do you have other suggestions for routes or islands to prioritize during this period? Thanks in advance for your tips!

Mon épouse et moi désirerions trouver un endroit en bord de mer facilement accessible de Bangkok. Nous sommes déjà allés en Thaïlande 5-6 fois, mais jamais en bord de mer. Bien sûr, Pattaya est proscrit. Nous ne recherchons pas particulièrement la plage, mais plutôt des balades. Cela fait 45 ans que je bourlingue, aussi je sais très bien que les endroits hors sentiers battus se font de plus en plus rares, néanmoins, j’espère trouver un endroit paisible et sympa en faisant appel à votre expérience. Bonjour à tous , Nous sommes un couple , nous partons en Thaïlande pendant les vacances de février 2020 . Nous souhaiterions faire la Thaïlande du Sud . Nous projetons de faire : Bangkok du 15 au 18 février Krabi ( visite des îles ) du 18 au 22 février Koh Samui du 22 au 26 février Bangkok du 26 au 28 février Cela vous paraît bien ? Avez vous des conseils Hotels , restau , visites , bons plans ? C’est notre 1ère fois en long courrier et pour nous un gros voyage !
