Je recherche sur ce forum des gens qui pourraient me conseiller sur des détails pratiques lorsque l'on part un an loin de chez soi.
C'est tout bête mais comment fait-on une valise pour un an? Est-il conseillé de souscrire à un abonnement de téléphone? faut-il des copies de factures des objets de valeur? Ouvrir un compte en banque? Enfin voila, des choses du quotidien quoi...

Ben tu fais comme pour qd t'as vécu 2mois. on prend de quoi tenir 2 semaines et pi on lave ses affaires ds une laverie ou ds sa machine !!

Le temps changent tellement à new york et les prix la bas (avec le rapport dollar euros surtt) sont tels que je te conseille de prendre 2 valises a moitié vide que tu rempliras au fur et à mesure (ou alors une valise et puis t'en rachetera une deuxieme).
Moi jétais parti pr 6mois mais je commencais par un roadtrip a travers les parc nationaux je n'avais que des affaires de randos. J'ai été au premier OUTLET du coin (au texas) et pi j'ai fait mes ptites emplètes et acheté mes vêtements au fur et à mesure du temps !
abonnement de téléphone ou juste carte sim je sais pas. Peut etre il faut comparer. moi je ne téléphone pas bcp dc javais pris le pay as u go de AT&T. mais si tu téléphones bcp un forfait est plus adapté. Bcp de mes amis avaient Tmobile. Mais c ce qui leur correspondait le mieux. Le mieux est de comparé les prix par rapport à tes besoins. il faut juste savoir qu'aux US tu paies qd tu appelles et qd tu es appelé ...mais bon si tu as déjà vécu labas tu dois bien le savoir ;p
Ouvrir un compte en banque est tres facile. je l'avais fait chez bank of america et wachovia. il suffit du passport et du justificatif de domicile (enfin dans mon cas au t exas, c ptetre différent a newyork !).
copiede factures des objets de valeur? euh ché pas! moi g pas fait mé javais pas d'objets de valeur...et puis ca te servirai a quoi? a l'assurance?! alors oui !
sinon il faut surtout une couverture medicale !! a moins que ce ne soit inclu ds le prix à la fac ! C'est bien la chose la plus importante à mes yeux !

PS: just for fun tu peux aller faire faire ton "id" américaine une fois surplace à la mairie du coin(enfin le service ID, le meme que pour avoir lepermis de conduire, a moins que tu ne passes le permis). Pour 15dollars (je crois) tu auras ta carte d'identité américaine. Tres pratique et ca t'évite de ramener ton passeport pour chaque sortie ou voyage sur le territoire américain ! (et il n'y a meme pas écrit que tu es française dessus ;ppp...)
Une tres petite detaille que j'ai fait pour mon an d'etude a l'etranger:
J'utilisais un produit pour la peau, l'equivalent duquel je n'ai jamais trouve hors des etats-unis, donc j'ai amene une provision, assez pour un an. Si vous avez tel produit, ou meme un medicament, amenez assez.
Je pars avec EF education. Réputation, expérience et bonnes destinations... Pour le moment tout se passe bien avec eux. Ils sont sympa, répondent à toutes tes questions et l'ont même autorisé à faire un stage qui n'était pas en option dans mon école.
Tu hésites avec quels organismes?
En fait, j'ai commandé toutes les brochures, et mon premier choix se portait sur EF Los Angeles. Puis je suis allé à leur portes ouvertes et le gars m'a conseillé de pas prendre LA pcq j'avais 19 ans et donc que je ne pouvais pas conduire de voitures (j'ai mon permis). En plus, les transports en commun sont pas très pratiques là bas. Donc je me suis tourné vers NY, puis je me suis aperçu que c'était assez loin de ManHattan ... Je crois 55 km 🤪 Donc je me suis remis à chercher et j'hésite toujours ... Bien sûr mon choix se porterait vers LA car (pour moi) il y a plus d'activités à faire (je connais une famille qui était notre voisin en France, Universal, les parcs, les Lakers, la ville, Las Vegas, SF ...) puis il fait pas froid comparé à NY (j'habite Toulouse) mais le gros problème ce sont les transports et donc y'a ennui si je dois aller en famille (ceci étant un autre problème, plus d'immersion linguistique mais moins de liberté qu'en résidence ... !?) En effet, dans certains familles ils faut compter 1h de transport :sick:
Bref, un peu perdu, en plus NY me tente bien aussi ce qui n'arrange rien ...
Après j'aimerais savoir combien de temps on met de Brooklyn/Queens jusqu'à ManHattan. Je crois que les familles d'EF sont dans ces quartiers ...
Ma résidence EF NY est à Tarrytown soit 40min de Manhattan. Mais en partant de Brooklyn ou du Queens tu réduis à 20 min et 1/2 heure de Manhattan selon où tu te trroouves.
Pour moi qui suis banlieusarde parisienne dans l'âme depuis depuis toujours, ça parait surmontable d'être à 40min de Manhattan. 🙂
Maintenant si tu n'as pas l'habitude de faire un peu de trajet, réfléchis-y à deux fois...
Concernant les activités, NY est surnommée la ville qui ne dort jamais et je peux t'assurer que ça n'est pas pour rien! J'y ai déja passé quelques temps et c'"est formidable, je rêve d'y retourner depuis que j'en suis partie. Tu as toujours des choses à faire et à visiter, les activités ne manqueront pas.
Pour ce qui est du climat, je peux te dire que l'été il fait extrêmement chaud. J''ai passé trois mois à philadelphie (qui est à 2h de NY) et j'ai eu 35 degres tout l'été avec maximum 3 jours de pluie... Par contre l'hiver c'est neige et froid : ça change de LA!!
Moi aussi j'hésitais avec LA, ça fait rêver mais j'ai choisi NY pour les cours dispensés et le stage..
Pour tes solutions d'hébergement, je ne pense pas que tu ais moins de libertés en famille, tu es majeur après tout! 😉
Oui mais je pars du principe que si t'es dans une famille tu reviens pas à l'heure que tu veux dans leur maison ... Peut-être que c'est pas le cas, de toute façon je me vois mal sortir le soir tard vu qu'à 19 ans pas de boites de nuit, ni d'alcool (encore on peut s'en passer) ...
De plus à Toulouse, j'ai toujours été à 5 mn de mon collège, lycée, IUT, puis université donc ça ve me faire un changement certain.
Bref faut que je me décide rapidement 😇 Mais la famille dans le Queens me plaît plus que la résidence ...

J'ai mis très longtemps à me décider. Au départ je devait intégrer une université australienne en 3ème année (vu que j'ai déja un DUT). Mais j'ai eu des problèmes d'équivalence de diplôme donc j'ai du changer de destination.
Connaissant les Etats Unis j'ai eu envie de retourner à NYC, ville pour laquelle j'ai eu un coup de coeur enorme!.
J'ai choisi de partir avec l'organisme EF Education. Je vais faire un an d'anglais des affaires, de commerce et de relations internationales. A la fin de mon année je fais un stage d'un mois.
Voila ça n'était pas les cours de mes rêves mais je n'ai pas les moyens pour une université classique américaine à 30 000 dollars l'année (sur 4 ans pour obtenir un bachelor).
Ta formule fille au pair parait intéressante également. Je ne savais pas que tu pouvais prendre des cours en université! Des cours de quoi?
En tous cas, Au Pair Care est très réputé, je ne sais pas si c'est la même chose que Educare.

en ce qui me concerne, avec educare in america (c'est le même organisme que au pair in america) j'ai la possibilité de suivre des cours à l'université à hauteur de 6h par semaine, ce n'est donc pas énorme mais c'est déjà ça ! et y'a un choix assez interessant de matières : business, marketing, economie, histoire, journalisme, littérature... psychologie, éducation qui collerai pr moi puisque j'ai une licence de psycho du développement. mais je ne sais pas encore si chaque universités des villes selectionnée par educare proposent toutes ces matières. Je ne sais pas donc où je vais aller, si je choisi une matière vraiment et qu'ensuite je peux etre envoyé n'importe où ou si je choisi matière(s)+l'université.
En tout cas je suis bien décidée à y aller mais comme j'aimerai bien avoir des infos de personnes qui sont déjà allé en educare et pas que au pair mais personne ne me répond !! lol.
Et toi alors si je peux me permettre, combien ça te coutes de partir étudier à NY ?

Malheureusement non, ce diplôme n'est pas reconnu en France, mais pour tout te dire, je n'estime pas que ça soit le plus important. Sinon je n'aurais pas choisi cette formule.
Bref, depuis ton petit message je me suis renseignée pour Educare et c'est vrai que c'est tentant car tu peux suivre des cours à moindre frais, et l'expérience d'aller vivre aux USA revient alors beaucoup beaucoup moins chère!
Pour répondre à ta question à ce sujet, moi j'ai faire un emprunt de 13 000 euros (et j'ai en plus un apport financier personnel). Il faut compter au moins 15 000 euros.
Bon moi ça revient plus cher car je suis en chambre individuelle (les chambre doubles sont gratuites). Mais dans ce prix tu as les cours, le logement et la nourriture en pension complète compris + le stage.
La en ce moment je suis en plein dans les formalités de Visas (quelle galère), alors tu n'en n'a pas fini avec la paperasse! lol
En tous cas, bonne chance pour la suite, il y a des forum pour les filles qui partent au pair, tu trouveras facilement sur google, elles ont l'air de répondre aux questions. Tiens moi au courant de la suite de tes évenements! 😉
Je peux te dire que tu m'as convaincu, si je souhaite repartir aux Etats Unis pour suivre une autre formation moins intense, je choisirai cette formule, puis ça sera l'occasion de découvrir un autre coin de ce beau pays!

Je met de l'argent de coté pr bouger pendant mes day offs et pr le 13e mois, voyage dans l'ouest américain prévu si j'ai le courage de rester !!
Pr ce qui est de educare ouais je pense que c un bon programme, sérieux mais quand tu vas sur les sites c pas super clair non plus. tu sais pas trop les matières que proposent chaques université etc... le truc chouette c que tu t'occupes pas trop de ton visa et tout, ils font pas mal de choses.
J'ai démaré une discusion sur ce forum pr avoir des infos sur educare mais pas de réponses pourtant j'ai regardé et y'a pas de discution sur educare, uniquement sur au pair classique.
