Nous sommes 5 amis à vouloir partir à moto de Colombie jusqu'en Argentine.
Cela est prévu en novembre 2016 sur 2 mois maxi.
Nous nous heurtons à beaucoup de difficultés.
Le choix d'envoyer nos motos de France en Colombie, ou d'acheter des motos sur place et les revendre en fin de voyage, ou louer sur place etc.
Pour chaque solution, il y a de grosses contraintes. Par exemple, acheter des motos en Colombie oblige de les revendre dans le même pays. De même, expédier de France en Amérique, en transit temporaire, oblige de les réexpédier du même pays. Et les transitaires en France ne se bousculent pas sur ce projet...
Y a t-il quelqu'un qui aurait fait ce type de voyage à moto et qui pourrait nous renseigner?
Achat dans le pays d'arrivée (Colombie) et revente en fin de voyage en Argentine ou autre pays.
Idem si c'est une location.
Si la moto est achetée en Colombie, elle ne peut être revendue qu'en Colombie. Comme chez nous, un véhicule immatriculé en France ne peut se vendre qu'en France, sauf à le faire dédouaner.
J'ai fait le voyage de Montréal Canada jusqu'à Cartagene Colombie à moto de septembre à décembre 2013. Ma moto est immatriculée en France et je n'ai pas eu de problème pour la rapatrier de Cartagene vers la France. Lors de chaque entrée dans un pays il fallait prendre un document (à ne surtout pas perdre...) d'admission temporaire (en général 3 mois) qui devait être présenté à la sortie. Cela s'est passé sans problème pour ma moto pour Canada, USA, Mexique, Guatemala, Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa-Rica, Panama et finalement Colombie.
En revanche c'est vrai que revendre une moto en fin de raid dans un pays où elle a été admise en temporaire pose des problèmes : il y a toujours des droits d'importation définitive à régler, la négociation de revente est difficile car on se trouve dans une situation défavorable (en attente du départ), et les réglementations du pays peuvent interdire l'importation définitive de véhicules d'occasion (c'est le cas de la Colombie).

A part ça, votre projet de voyage m’intéresse. Je prépare moi-même un tour d'Amérique du Sud avec mon frère de Septembre 2016 à Mars 2017 ; départ de Guyane, descente plus ou moins en suivant le côté atlantique du continent jusqu'à Ushuaia, puis remontée côté pacifique jusqu'en Colombie. En fait il s'agit de boucler en l'enrichissant le raid de 2013.
Je suis intéressé à savoir pourquoi vous avez choisi la Colombie comme point de départ.

Première question: pour envoyer ta moto au Canada, quel transitaire as-tu choisi? C'est mon premier choix d'envoyer nos motos de France. Mais pour l'instant aucun transitaire ne répond favorablement...
La Colombie comme départ: En fait nous voulions partir du Panama, mais le passage en Colombie se fait par bateau. Face à ce que nous avons vu sur la toile, nous avons modifié le point de départ. Pour supprimer le coût du passage et le délai...
La durée du voyage: En fait on ne sait pas trop, cela représente 9 000 km et on pense que 2 mois suffiraient. Rien n'est vraiment arrêté.

ce serait délà plus facile et moins cher de faire le contraire, je dirais même mieux de partir du Chili et d'envoyer vos motos de Françe a Valparaiso,1er port du Chili qui est de loin le plus organisé, plus sur, et moins cher que n'importe quel autre en AdS.
en ce qui concerne les motos, pour en acheter une sur place ici au Bresil par exemple, il suffit d'avoir un numero fiscal (CPF) facile a obtenir en toute légalité, puis une adresse locale pour recevoir les documents de la moto, aussi très facile a fournir car le vendeur moto se fera un plaisir de vous la donner, ensuite vous devez souscrire une assurance (pas obligatoire au Bresil mais recommendé)par contre avec extension , elle, obligatoire pour l'argentine, le paraguay et l'uruguay,
au niveau de la revente des motos , s'y prendre quelques semaines a l'avance, passez une annonce sur un site très connu pour ce genre d'annonce , e s'attendre a perdre quelques euros pour une vente rapide, mais vous eliminez l'envoi, l'attente, le renvoi, et surtout le prix du transport qui tourne autour de 800 euros au depart de Valparaiso, ,

Pour la revente des motos achetées dans un pays, il semble que nous soyons obligés de revenir dans le même pays. Donc faire une boucle, ce que nous n'avons pas prévu... Mais on s'adapte.
c'est dommage car cette boucle vous faciliterait la vie, ,pensez -y, et en plus , en ce moment, il y a deux pays ou l'achat d'une moto revient bien moins cher, c'est l'argentine et le Bresil ou la devaluation n'en finit plus,
autre info pratique, c'est que depuis peu le ferry de Colon(Panama) a Cartagena (Colombia) a recommançé a fonctionner, je ne connais pas les tarifs mais a l'époque ou je l'ai pris c'etait bien meilleur qu'un navire cargo !!surtout avec le casino a bord.

Nous en sommes encore à la recherche de transporteurs pour nos motos. J'ai un devis et suis sur une piste pour un autre. Par ailleurs nous pourrions peu être bénéficier de conteneurs d'une société qui fait des expéditions de marchandises. Mais rien n'est arrêté pour l'instant. Dans le groupe certains envisagent d'acheter des petites cylindrées sur place (250 cc). Je reste sur l'option transport de France qui ne devrait pas être plus coûteuse..
Notre départ est fixé courant novembre. En avril nous aurons une réunion à Paris avec les "partants" pour faire le point. D'ici là je dois trouver la solution du transport pour acheter la moto d'occasion avant que l'été n'assèche les stocks...

Actuellement au chili je suis en train d'acheter deux motos. J'ai déjà mon RUT. numéro nécessaire pour acheter un bien ici. C'est très facile à avoir. Et rapide contrairement a ce que tout les ronchons disent sur les forums, un a deux jours si vous vous donnez les moyens. Nous quatre mais on a trainé. Mais ce n'est pas le sujet de la discussion. Mon voyage passe de Santiago par Ushuaia, puis retour jusqu'à la Colombie. D'où mon intérêt pour vos échanges. Moi c'est la revente en Colombie qui me pose problème. Donc si par hasard, je trouve des Français qui seraient intéressés pour acheter une ou deux motos équipées, en bonne état en Colombie, pour redescendre au chili et les revendre. Ca ce revend très bien par ici. Cela m'arrangerai grandement et vous aussi par la même occasion. Une pierre deux coups! Je reste donc a votre disposition si cela vous intéresse. D'ici demain peut être ou lundi. Elles seront achetées. Nous comptons prendre deux honda transalp. De 2005 environ a faible kilométrage. Comme préciser dans vos échange, vous êtes surement retraités, et plus forcement aptes a partir sur des modèles laissant place au doute sur la fiabilité. Nous sommes jeunes et voulons plutôt une sécurité sur une revente sans trop de difficulté. Tout arrangement et possible pour arriver à nos objectifs communs. Je reste à votre disposition.

Pour expédier les motos à Cartagène, nous utilisons un conteneur de 20 pieds au départ du Havre. C'est Gefco qui se charge des formalités jusque Cartagène. 11 jours de mer et un coût pour 5 motos d'environ 700 € par moto (départ Le Havre arrivée Cartagène). Il y a des frais à la moto, d'autre au conteneur. Pas d'obligation de mettre les motos en caisse. En groupage la caisse est obligatoire et le surcoût est d'environ 400€ par moto.
Ensuite c'est plus compliqué. Je cherche une solution sécurisée pour récupérer les motos à Cartagène, car il faut passer la douane et dépoter le conteneur. Gefco ne s'en occupe pas.J'ai des contacts, mais....
Je souhaite un montant fixe pour sortir les motos. Pour l'instant rien de sûr!
L'option importation temporaire n'existe pas pour certains, et il faudrait payer la TVA et autres taxes. Pour d'autres cela serait facile...mais j'attend toujours.
Si quelqu'un connait une société sur Bogota ou Cartagène qui se charge des formalités de douane et portuaires, je suis preneur.

Manfred ALWART a fait les formalités d’importation temporaire de ma moto et de celle de mon frère. Nous venions de Panama en catamaran au sein d’un groupe de 15 globe trotters. Manfred s’est également occupé des formalités pour les voyageurs. Je ne sais pas quelle a été sa rémunération pour ce travail car nous avions un tarif forfaitaire de 500$/personne & 300$/moto pour la croisière de 5 jours en mer des Caraïbes tout compris (sauf les boissons alcoolisées !) et les formalités d’entrée et dédouanement à Cartagena de Indias. Ce que je peux dire c’est que tout s’est fait tout seul !

New to the forum, but not so new to Asia 😄
I’m Nico, from Switzerland, currently based in Bangkok. I love taking my motorcycle out to get lost in the mountains and small villages of Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, and more. I’ve been roaming around this area for a good fifteen years now, racking up quite a few kilometers—especially in northern Vietnam.
This time, I finally decided to tackle the Mae Hong Son Loop, clockwise. I’d been to Pai several times before, but oddly enough, I’d never done the full loop.
So, I’ll try to give you a little recap here, day by day, with the roads, stops, places worth checking out… and those that didn’t quite blow my mind 😅
I also filmed the trip, so I’ll post the corresponding video at the end of each day if that’s okay. If it’s not allowed here, just let me know, and I’ll remove them without any issue.
DAY 1 — Chiang Mai → Doi Inthanon → Mae Chaem → Khun Yuam
I left Chiang Mai after renting a Honda ADV 160 from Pop Motorbike. Not exactly an Africa Twin, but for what I had planned, it was more than enough.
Quick hotel note: I stayed at the Lanna Thaphae Hotel before leaving. Around 30 € per night, super well-located, and probably one of the most comfortable beds I’ve ever slept in. A crucial detail for any motorcycle road trip, obviously.
The plan for the day was pretty straightforward:
Head toward Doi Inthanon… and see what happens.
Flawless Swiss organization.
First stop along the way at Wachirathan Waterfall. A really nice waterfall, very easy to access, but don’t expect to channel your inner Indiana Jones—it’s crowded, touristy, and swimming isn’t allowed. Still, it’s a pretty stop along the way.
Next, up to Doi Inthanon.
The road climbs steeply, and my little 160cc started to realize that carrying my 80 kg to Thailand’s highest point probably wasn’t part of its youthful dreams. I was maxing out at 34 km/h in some spots.
But it made it. Good little bike.
The summit is nice—the forest is beautiful, and it’s cool—but I have to admit, it didn’t completely wow me. Glad I went, but not necessarily the highlight of the day for me.
Because then comes Route 1192.
And that’s *much* more my thing: small mountain roads, beautiful scenery, hardly any traffic… the kind of road where I usually start taking way too many unnecessary detours just because a little side road “looks fun.”
Stopped in Mae Chaem for a bite to eat, then headed to Khun Yuam to finish the day.
A little over 200 km in total.
Khun Yuam is… quiet.
*Very* quiet. 😅
A cute little market, a couple of cafés/restaurants, and zero chance of ending up in a club until 4 AM. But after a day on the bike, it was perfect.
Stayed at the Mit Khun Yuam Hotel, around 20 € for a small but very decent room.
All in all, a solid first day and a pretty relaxed start to the loop. Part of this leg is mostly about getting out of Chiang Mai and really diving into the mountains, in my opinion.
Because for me, the really interesting stuff starts over the next two days…
And a few slightly questionable route decisions will also make an appearance 😅

I’m starting to think about a trip that’s really close to my heart: Algeria by motorcycle, specifically the southern part of the country. It’d be for January 2025, and I’ve got two main questions:
Is it possible for an individual on a motorcycle to travel freely, outside of any organized tour, or does the regulation require some kind of supervision in the Algerian Sahara region?
Is the Hoggar massif accessible by road or by (rideable) tracks?
Beyond the official recommendations, I’m really looking for your firsthand experiences.

I just realized I’ve been registered on VoyageForum since... March 28, 2012 😊. Yet, I’ve barely participated until now.
August 1, 2026, will mark a somewhat special milestone: 5 years on the road.
We left Switzerland on August 1, 2021 with a simple idea: let chance decide our direction. We placed a bottle of wine on a world map, spun it... and it chose our first destination.
A year later, when we arrived in Morocco, we faced a new choice: continue toward Africa or head to Asia. This time, a tarot card game made the decision. Since then, we’ve tried to keep this journey as open to the unexpected as possible.
Today, that adds up to about 120,000 km, 46 countries, and over 1,800 days on the road—mostly by motorcycle, but also by sailboat, train, bus, hitchhiking, or on foot when adventure calls.
Our guiding thread isn’t just the motorcycle, but service exchanges. Instead of simply passing through countries, we try to stop regularly to lend a hand to the people we meet. So far, that’s about 600 days of volunteering.
Over the years, we’ve:
renovated a house in Croatia
made earth bricks in the Moroccan desert
helped sail a boat through the Greek islands
looked after houses, dogs, horses, a camel... and lots of other animals
worked at a street art festival in Morocco
created videos for local associations and projects
worked the grape harvest on the Tibetan plateau
been accredited as "media" for the World Nomad Games in Central Asia
Some of the moments that have stuck with us the most include six months in China, a night spent on the Great Wall, the Pamir Highway, the Silk Road, three months in Taiwan, and the incredible encounters in the mountains of Central Asia.
We travel on Falkor, our lucky dragon—a 2014 BMW F800GS that’s been with us since the start and is starting to have some great stories of its own.
While we share our adventure on Instagram, Polarsteps, and YouTube, that’s not why we’re here. The forum’s rules about promotion are clear, and I totally get them. If I’m finally taking the time to write, it’s mostly because after five years on the road, I thought our experience might be useful to other travelers.

I’m planning a motorcycle road trip to Armenia and Georgia in September 2026 or May 2027. I’m looking for one or more riders (male or female) who’d like to explore these countries with me.
Along the way, we’ll visit Cappadocia, the capitals Yerevan, Tbilisi, Sofia, Skopje, and other cities—we can finalize the route and roadbook later.
This trip requires experience with long motorcycle journeys, as we’ll cover around 7,000 km over 5 or 6 weeks (or more, depending on sightseeing and time spent).
I don’t expect dozens of applicants, since motorcycle riders are few and far between on this forum, but I’m putting this out there anyway.

I’m not particularly drawn to museums, ruins, or monuments.
I want to experience local life—small villages, seaside spots, beaches, and the interior if the landscapes are extraordinary.
Ideally, coming from Athens, I’d take a bus or train to get as close as possible to a starting point, then rent a scooter (125cc) to explore by taking secondary roads or even coastal paths. I’d stay in 2-3 places for a few days each to discover their surroundings.

What do you think would be the ideal itinerary?
From Athens, the best option would be to take either a flight or a bus to Kalamata. Rent a scooter and head either west or east. Is there a tertiary road (very lightly trafficked) or a path where I can ride slowly, take it easy, and enjoy the scenery without being bothered by traffic? I’d like to go all the way to Monemvasia, still hugging the coast. I need to find a way to avoid returning to Kalamata to drop off the scooter and catch a flight—maybe a small town where the train stops so I can head back to Athens.

I’m looking for info on shipping my vehicle by sea—possibly to Uruguay or another destination, as I haven’t finalized anything yet.
How do you get visas for the countries I’ll be crossing: Uruguay, Argentina, Bolivia, Peru, and Chile? Are they e-Visas, obtained at the border, or through embassies?
Where can I get vehicle insurance?
Lastly, if any bikers want to join us (my partner and me), we’re open to that possibility too.

I’ve got 15 days off in June and I’m pretty undecided about where to go for a motorcycle road trip. Two strong desires are pulling me in different directions: Corsica or Norway.
Corsica has been a dream of mine for a long time: legendary roads, stunning landscapes, a unique vibe, and the perfect mix of sea and mountains. At the same time, I’m wondering if 2 weeks might be *too much* for Corsica—risking feeling like I’ve seen it all too quickly, especially on a bike.
Since I also have an extra week free in May, I could use that specifically for Corsica. Maybe splitting it into two trips would make more sense? If so, which routes or regions would be the most interesting to plan for a 7-day trip?
On the other hand, Norway is *super* appealing. The landscapes look incredible, totally different from anything I’ve experienced, and it’d be a real “wow” trip. I know 15 days is still short for such a vast country. Getting all the way to the North Cape seems pretty much impossible in that time, but I’m curious about what realistic routes could be planned.
So I’m wondering:
Is it better to save Norway for next year, take 3 weeks off, and do it *properly*?
Or are 15 days enough for a first amazing taste of the country?
I’d love to hear about your experiences—whether it’s Corsica (ideal duration, routes) or Norway (what’s realistic in 2 weeks on a bike).

Looking for travel companions to ride from France to Senegal by motorcycle.
I’m Paul, 37, and I’ve already done a bit of riding in Morocco.
For now, I’m solo, riding a 1998 SUZUKI DR 650 with some basic gear to keep things smooth. I’ll have a tent so we can do a few nights under the stars.

Hello! We’re planning a motorcycle trip that will include a visit to Auschwitz-Birkenau in June 2026.
We’re unsure (still debating) whether we should stay at a hotel on-site and get to the memorial with an Uber (leaving our bikes at the hotel) and book a guided tour, or base ourselves in Kraków and take a tour that includes transport.
One thing’s for sure—we’d prefer a guide in French since we don’t speak English 😅.
Could you share your experiences or advice?
