Le 18 février dernier, Michèle Alliot-Marie – alors ministre des Affaires Étrangères – et son homologue Hector Timerman ont signé un accord de coopération franco-argentin dans le cadre du « Programme Vacances-Travail ». En quoi consiste-t-il ? Comment fonctionne-t-il ?
Le « PVT » est un dispositif permettant aux jeunes ressortissants des Etats participants d’effectuer pendant une année un voyage ’touristique’ de découverte culturelle, mais également professionnelle dans l’autre Etat. Il a été inventé afin de ‘créer davantage d’occasions pour que leurs jeunes ressortissants puissent apprécier la culture et le mode de vie de l’autre État, y compris à travers le travail, et d’établir de cette manière une meilleure entente mutuelle’, selon le texte signé.
Sa grande particularité est en effet la possibilité de travailler pendant le séjour, grâce à un Visa spécifique délivré gratuitement par l’Etat d’origine, le « Visa Vacances-Travail ». Celui-ci est plus simple et plus souple qu’un Visa de travail classique, car il n’est pas subordonné à la nécessité de trouver un employeur avant le départ. La recherche d’emploi y est libre et se fait une fois arrivé dans le pays. Du coté français il faut savoir également qu’il existe la possibilité pour le ressortissant argentin de bénéficier de la carte de séjour « Compétences et Talents » à l’expiration du Visa. Elle permet d’exercer une activité professionnelle en lien avec un projet ou une activité mettant en œuvre une compétence ou un talent, et ce renouvelable pour une durée de 6 ans.
Ce programme, et son Visa, sont aussi subordonnés à des critères d’éligibilité relativement peu contraignants. Il faut notamment être âgé de 18 à 30 ans, ne pas avoir déjà bénéficié du programme, ne pas avoir d’antécédents pénaux, ni de personnes à charge, et pouvoir subvenir à ses besoins au début du séjour.
Inspiré d’une idée anglo-saxonne, le « Programme Vacances-Travail » existe en France depuis déjà 1999, et concerne cinq pays auxquels s’ajoute depuis peu l’Argentine. En 2009, le pays des Lumières avait accueilli 2500 ressortissants, ce qui montre la grande popularité de ce système. Ce nouveau dispositif est une occasion également de faciliter les échanges d’étudiants et de jeunes travailleurs entre les deux États. Il faut savoir que la France est la troisième destination choisie par les étudiants argentins.
Le texte entrera en vigueur dans les prochains mois, après les procédures nécessaires dans les deux pays. Toutes les informations seront alors disponibles sur le site de l’ambassade.

Our departure time is getting closer (we have less than 2 years left—it’s both a long time and so short!). To start preparing seriously, we’ll need quite a bit of info. If anyone knows the rates charged by movers for a crate to French Polynesia, or what pitfalls to avoid (I know you can get quotes directly from movers, but I’d love insights from actual customers😉).

Hi, I’m a self-employed physiotherapist in France, and as my wife (a nurse) and I look into working abroad in about two years, I’ve been offered an equivalence to become a respiratory physiotherapist in Switzerland. Actually, I’m currently doing a postgraduate diploma in pediatric respiratory physiotherapy and want to specialize in that area. Anyway, that’s not the main point—could anyone explain the pros and cons of doing this job in Switzerland? Based on the paperwork I’ve received, the equivalence seems purely administrative or almost... What about working conditions, quality of life, salaries, etc.?
