I think it’s a beautiful country. And I’ll know more in November. Have a great day.

Hi Daniel! I just revisited your beautiful photos of Morocco with pleasure—looking forward to the ones from your next trip? Enjoy it! Are you going to try the direct route to Ouarzazate? Have a great day!

Nope, Roselyne, not Paris to Ouarzazate for me. I'm leaving from Nantes. It's closer. Have a great day.
DD Dd44 Veteran ·
And you, Roselyne, have you tried this new route?
JA Jackieda Veteran ·
Oh no, unfortunately! I just saw that my reply to Daniel didn’t go through. For me, it’d be doable—it’s only 200 km... I really hope to try it one day, but for now, no trips planned :/... and you?

Nothing planned for late 2019 yet. Still nothing decided for 2020 either, but we’ll think about it. Have a great Sunday.

2020!!! We've never been this close...

Hi Trostang, I saw your family trip post and it really interested me. I’m also planning to travel with my kids and grandkids for the 2020 All Saints' holidays, starting around October 17th for about 12 days. I know Morocco a little—I’ve been there 7 or 8 times—and I was thinking of doing a route like Marrakech, Tafraoute, Icht, Zagora, Mhamid, Ait Benhaddou, Telouet, and back to Marrakech. I noticed you chose the Todra Gorge and Merzouga instead... can you tell me why? Does it seem like a better option to you? What do you think of my itinerary? Thanks!
TR Trostang Globetrotter ·
Hi, If I had chosen this itinerary, it’s mainly because the youngest ones wanted to go to the desert. Personally, I prefer Merzouga to Zagora... In Zagora, I feel like you’re harassed way too often... And I’d rather my grandkids didn’t have to deal with that... Otherwise, your route is great too. It really depends on what you’ve already seen in Morocco, each of you.
FI Filgi Regular ·
Actually, it's the grandparents who know Morocco a bit and want to introduce the younger ones to the landscapes, markets, people, desert, and food 😊😊, and I'm looking for the best route over 12 days. That's why I'm asking for advice because I'm torn between my current route and the one toward the gorges and Merzouga... If anyone has already done this with little ones (6 and 4 years old) and adults (35-38 years old), and could maybe inspire me with a route and accommodations, I'd really appreciate it, thanks
TR Trostang Globetrotter ·
The kids really loved the donkey ride in the Skoura palm grove and the pottery experience at the potter's workshop. For the camels, they're still young, so they'll need to ride with mom or dad.
JE Jeeaan Globetrotter ·
In Morocco, the spectacle is everywhere. The kids won't get bored: the animals, the souks...

Hi there,

Are you going to try the direct route to Ouarzazate? Have a great day

Is the direct route you're talking about the one operated by RAM? Because I just compared a Paris→Marrakech flight (Transavia+TUI) with a Paris→Ouarzazate flight (RAM) for February vacation. The difference is huge, especially for a family of four.

For one person:

Ouarzazate = 308 € Marrakech = 180 €

For four of us, that’s nearly a 500 € difference... What’s the advantage of flying Paris→Ouarzazate?

Beautiful travel journal... it’s so inspiring! !

Hi there,

None, really. It’s better to fly Paris–Marrakech, then Marrakech–Ouarzazate, with flights costing around 30 € on RAM.

Also, EasyJet operates flights from Paris CDG at prices well below RAM’s. It’d be worth checking out...

Personally, I’d love to visit Asian countries. But it’s so far away—you’d need to be able to leave for a bit longer.

Hello,

I’m heading to Marrakech at the end of December. I remember taking a bus that dropped me off right in front of Jemaa el-Fna square. Could you tell me where the buses are when you exit the airport and which one to take to get to the square? Thanks so much. Best regards, Davmax

TR Trostang Globetrotter ·
Couldn't be easier... When you leave the airport, cross the area where the taxis are waiting and go a bit further—you’ll spot the bus just a few meters away...
DD Dd44 Veteran ·
For 30 MAD per ticket, it's worth it. And no hassle with taxis.
TR Trostang Globetrotter ·
That’s exactly how I feel. You’re much more relaxed on the bus.
JE Jeeaan Globetrotter ·
Another option is to go past the bus stop and head to the roadside to hail a taxi... It's immediately cheaper than at the airport.
TR Trostang Globetrotter ·
So, you're back then?
JE Jeeaan Globetrotter ·
Yep, back home after a wonderful trip. We loved this country so much. I’ve started working on a travel journal, but I think it’s gonna take a while—there’s just so much to tell and show... But winter days are perfect for this kind of thing. And you? How was your trip?
LA Lagardevicto Veteran ·
But at the same price as the bus????

Our journey went smoothly. Morocco still charms us just as much. We treated ourselves, and we're already thinking about our next trip!
TR Trostang Globetrotter ·
And I’ll be following you on the roads of Burma. I really enjoyed reading the first few pages. So, I’m looking forward to the rest!

Hi Trostang, thanks for your travel journal—it’s really helpful for planning a short trip to Morocco. I took some notes on the hostels you mentioned... Could you tell me which rental company you used for your Logan? Were they diesel or petrol Logans? Thanks for your reply.
TR Trostang Globetrotter ·
Hi there, If my little trip report can be of any help, that’s great. We rented our diesel cars from Medloc. We’ve been doing this for several years, and it’s always gone smoothly. They’re reliable. Don’t hesitate if you have any questions.
JE Jeeaan Globetrotter ·
It all depends on the number of passengers. But in a small taxi, you can only fit 3 people. It also depends on where you're going.
LA Lagardevicto Veteran ·
Totally agree, and the rules are pretty strictly followed in urban areas. In the countryside, during the first quarter, in the "bush" (mountains, erg...), I still saw quite a few grand taxis that were way overloaded, both with passengers and luggage. It’s not yet fully respected. A huge improvement compared to the last ten years though!!

For the small taxis that drive around the city, it's limited to 3 passengers. Big taxis are different.

For the small taxis that circulate in the city, it's limited to 3 passengers. Large taxis are different.

That's how it generally works for small taxis. For large taxis, I don't know if the number of travelers transported is limited.

Hi Daniel,

In the new big taxis, there are 6 seats, but sometimes clever folks manage to fill the gap between the two back seats with a tiny stool, a small crate, or a pile of blankets to squeeze in one extra spot .
CA Cambrousse Globetrotter ·
Yeah, I saw that once too. I refused and waited for the next taxi. But it’s still pretty rare. (At least from what I’ve seen on my trips)

JE Jeeaan Globetrotter ·
In the old Mercedes, which are becoming fewer and fewer, the gear shift was modified to allow an extra passenger up front. That couldn’t have been the most comfortable seat!
CA Cambrousse Globetrotter ·
the worst seat 😬. But the cramped space in the back with 4 of us wasn’t much fun either. 😅 Sometimes I bought both front seats—we felt like Bernard Arnault’s daughter 😉 😉

JE Jeeaan Globetrotter ·
Well, don't hold back! Every now and then!
TR Trostang Globetrotter ·
And if on top of that, we have to put up with the neighbor's phone conversation... That's the last straw... I experienced that a long time ago! It can have its charm, but it can get tiring sometimes.
CA Cambrousse Globetrotter ·
😉 That's the real life of the people. 😉 And it's not often like that.

Sometimes there's nothing worse than a phone call: in Mauritania, it was 4 hours non-stop of an angry imam's sermon blasted from the bus radio at full volume. 😏

So phone calls are nothing compared to that. 😎

Now I travel with my earplugs.

If you only have a backpack, it's best to head to the main boulevard in Mhamid and take the bus (12/11) for 4 DH. Or a shared taxi for 5 DH. Or a taxi with a negotiated price (20-25 DH) to the square. Otherwise, from the airport, bus no. 19 for 30 DH. For airport taxis, I’m not too sure 😏😏😏

Hi there,

Thanks for your help. I’ve got a question for you—on our last day, our flight is really early. Can you tell me if there are any hotels near Marrakech Airport? I don’t remember, and it’s to make the transfer easier. Best, Davmax

Near the airport, I’ve never noticed any hotels. The airport isn’t too far from the city center.. Early in the morning, the trip takes 15 minutes max, leaving from Jemaa el-Fna square.

Have a great trip.
TR Trostang Globetrotter ·
Even when my flight leaves early in the morning, I still stay overnight in the city. If it's *really* early, have the hotel book a taxi for you. It only takes about fifteen minutes to get to the airport, especially early in the morning.

Thanks Olivard and Trostang, that’s exactly what I was thinking too—I’d never seen a hotel near the airport. Okay, 15 minutes by taxi in the morning. Davmax

When I leave my hotel around 7 AM, I easily find a taxi on Avenue Mohamed V.
