In 1985, the film "Out of Africa" was released, which inspired me to visit Kenya for the first time a year later.
My passion for animals in their wild and natural habitat, and thus for safaris, was born while watching this film and appreciating Robert REDFORD’s acting.
Of course, the film’s director and Meryl STREEP also contributed greatly to this wonderful movie.....
In a way, I owe him this passion, and I thank him for it.
Sometimes, during safaris, when we had our breakfasts in the middle of nature, in one reserve or another in Kenya or Tanzania, I often thought of him.
May he rest in peace, far from our world of madness.

For my part, I have no memory of the immediate impact this film had on me.
Nor do I remember the media that introduced me to Africa. Probably a mix of films, documentaries, and books.
In any case, *Out of Africa* didn’t spark any travel cravings for me. But I think that, since I definitely couldn’t afford it at the time, I was sparing myself the temptation anyway.

It's true that the character played by Redford is a luxury safari guide who introduces *us* to wild nature and animals. But the film goes further, I think: his friend and his African partner, rejected by the colonists of the time, and above all, it's the story of Karen Blixen, who traveled directly from Denmark to West Africa—a journey of initiation and confirmation of her independence. So it's a very rich film, directed by Sydney Lumet if I remember correctly.
*Jeremiah Johnson* is worth rewatching... for the American Northwest.
