Plus les mois passent, plus je commence à me faire à l'idée qu'il y aura décidément un avant et un après pour ce pays que nous aimons tous. J'avoue humblement que je suis passé d'optimiste à pessimiste.

Aujourd'hui le gouvernement Thaï change les règles, et pour combien de temps

Nous savons maintenant avec certitude que ce sera le parcours du combattant pour y retourner cette année , sans parler du nerf de la guerre ce coût financier qui se dessine . (Assurance , quarantaine, test, bulle j'en passe etc ... )

Vais-je accepter payer une assurance la peau des fesses pour rester enfermé 14 jours dans un hôtel à 64€ par nuit. Ensuite on ne sait pas à quelle sauce on nous mettra sur des rails.

Suis-je le seul à penser cela ?

Enfermé depuis Mars , j'ai vraiment pas envie de rester en France cet hiver . ...

Mais pour aller ou ? Quel est le pays qui se rapproche le plus de la Thaïlande ?

Les représentants du gouvernement voudrait un tourisme de luxe plutôt qu'un tourisme de masse. Cela pour compenser que les "bulles touristiques" ne seront pas prêtes en juillet. Donc sélection par le porte monnaie. Les hôteliers 3 et 4 étoiles et professionnels du tourisme ne sont pas d'accord. Cela profiterait surtout aux hôtels de luxe 5 étoiles. pour le moment le gouvernement se concentre sur le tourisme intérieur en injectant 718 millions de dollars, cela profitera aux hôtels et restaurants, compagnies intérieures, agence de voyages Thaï. Il est clair que le gouvernement veut profiter de la pandémie pour stopper le tourisme de masse qu'il trouve nocive pour l'environnement et monter en gamme.

Qui est à Bangkok en ce moment pour témoigner un peu de l’ambiance sur place et notamment là où habituellement il y a beaucoup de monde et d’animations comme kao san road ou sukhumvit ? Je suis actuellement à KohNgai et il n’y a pratiquement personne, c’est à la fois agréable et inquiétant sans parler de la perte économique pour ceux qui vivent du tourisme. En théorie.... je rejoins Bangkok le 26 mars pour repartir à Paris avec la Qatar mais d’ici là....qui sait ?.?

Hi everyone, I’m starting to plan my next trip to Southeast Asia this winter (2.5 months, leaving in early December), and here’s a rough outline of my route—I’d love to share it with you and hear your thoughts and tips.

- I’ll start in Bangkok and already have three spots I’ve marked: Ayutthaya, Kanchanaburi, and Uthai Thani (I haven’t been to any of these places yet). - Next, I’d like to cross the country from west to east to reach the Laos border. I’d love suggestions for any interesting stops along this route—I don’t know this part of Thailand at all... - Then I’ll head into Laos, probably at Savannakhet (you can usually get a visa at the border). - > I’m tempted to spend a week in Hoi An, Vietnam, since I loved that city and the area when I visited two years ago. No visa needed for Vietnam now, so it could be a nice little detour. On the map, it doesn’t look too far, but I know you’ve got to be careful with these things, and I’m not sure if it’s a good idea. Any opinions on this? - Back to Laos (maybe via Dakta), and I’ll head south along the Mekong, probably doing the Bolaven Plateau loop that I missed last time. Then Paksé, the 4,000 Islands... I’ve been before, but I’d happily go back. - Crossing into Cambodia, I’ll follow the Mekong down to Phnom Penh (I know this area and love how untouristy it is). From there, I’ll probably spend a few days in Kep (quieter than Kampot). Still undecided, though. - Then back to Thailand (BKK), likely by plane from Phnom Penh since the borders between the two countries are currently closed (plus, let’s be honest, Cambodian roads... ;-). We’ll see how things look when the time comes. - After that, I’d like to explore southern Thailand, taking it slow with short hops. I’ve got my eye on Khao Sok National Park, and I’ve heard good things about Krabi... Again, I don’t know this region well, so any info or tips would be great.

So, I think this should be doable in 2.5 months, especially since I prefer short hops of 300 km max to avoid getting too tired, and I like staying 2-3 days in each place to explore. Plus, I’ll take a week off to relax if I find a spot I love—maybe by the sea for some real downtime.

Hi everyone, I’m a die-hard fan of India, but it’s time I discovered Thailand too to broaden my Asian horizons. I’m heading there on January 19, 2025, for a 46-day trip (no visa needed as I’m French). I’ve pored over a few guidebooks and travel blogs. Based on what caught my interest, I’ve put together a rough itinerary and list of sights. But since I know absolutely nothing about Thailand, I’m kind of flying blind here. Since I’m not exactly a spring chicken anymore, I’ve opted for a few bases where I’ll stay several days in the same place. That way, I won’t have to change locations and hotels every day or so, packing and unpacking my suitcase constantly. Instead, I plan to explore the surrounding area each day, within a maximum radius of 50 to 70 km. So, first question: Is that kind of round-trip distance manageable in a day in Thailand? In India, renting a car for a day—with a driver—currently costs around 35 to 40 € per day. Knowing that 1,300 to 1,500 THB would be my absolute max, and even then, only if I don’t rent a car every single day. Which brings me to my second question: Am I being unrealistic? Otherwise—third question—once I’m settled in the city I’ve chosen as my base, can I get around within that 50–70 km radius using public transport? I’ve already booked all my hotels—with free cancellation—on booking.com at an average price of 950/1,000 THB per night. Does that put me in a good range for value for money? Or am I dreaming?

Here’s my plan:

BANGKOK (13 days, 14 nights): 1 week for exploring Bangkok – Kanchanaburi/Erawan National Park? – Ayutthaya/Lopburi? – Muang Boran – Samut – Songkram/Amphawa

Bangkok -> Chiang Mai by overnight train in first-class sleeper

CHIANG MAI (6 days/6 nights): Mae Hong Son – Hot springs – Chiang Dao – caves – Lamphun – other places to be decided on the spot based on what’s worth seeing and transport options

Chiang Mai -> Chiang Rai

CHIANG RAI (7 days/8 nights): Fang – Tha Ton – Chiang Saen – Doi Tung – Chiang Khong – Doi Ang Khang, Phu Chi Fah, etc.

Chiang Rai -> Phrae

PHRAE (4 days/5 nights): Lampang and surrounding areas, depending on what’s interesting to see

Phrae -> Loei

LOEI (4 days/5 nights): Phu Kradung – Chiang Khan and surrounding areas, depending on what’s worth seeing

Loei -> Buriram

PHIMAI (Nakhon Ratchasima/Khorat) (5 days/6 nights): Phimai – Prasat Muang Tam – Phanom Rung – Prasat Phanom Wan

Hi there. I wanted to check and asked Krungsri Bank if they offered a cash advance at the counter to avoid Thai ATM withdrawal fees. They told me yes, but only up to 200 baht. No, I didn’t forget a zero—it’s not even 6 €... That doesn’t get you very far.

Can anyone confirm this info, or are there banks that offer a larger cash advance? Krungsri is the only bank that does currency exchange in the town where I’m currently staying in Thailand.

Hi, just a quick note mainly for Samsong, even if he’s still giving me the silent treatment. I’ve been in Nan since yesterday and... I love it! So thanks, Thierry. It’s exactly the kind of place I’d been dreaming of... Even if communication is a bit tough, it’s not impossible. They don’t even know the most basic English words! Everyone laughs and they’re the first to pull out their phones to... translate. They’re even quicker on the uptake than I am. And then there’s the time I say Nan (pronounced "Nane"). They don’t understand me. After a while (sometimes a long one), they reply: "Ah, Nan?" (pronounced "Nane") 😵🤳😃

The town is exactly how you described it back in 2022. Though I’m surprised to find so many trendy, slightly intellectual "Cafés." Apparently, coffee—excellent everywhere—is king in Nan. It feels like a university town. And it seems pretty lively at night! But for now, I’m going to bed early. I caught a nasty cold, which didn’t stop me from walking 12 km this morning. But I came back to my accommodation by 3 PM (gorgeous and luxurious with top-notch service for 800 baht—even a cute local welcome gift this morning, plus other unexpected touches like a bottle of honey and chrysanthemum flowers for tea. The lady must’ve guessed I was coming down with something yesterday). I thought about going out for dinner but didn’t have the energy. I think I’ve got at least 39°C fever...

Anyway, I’m sending you this message, Thierry, because you mentioned a daily bus to Chiang Rai, so I didn’t look into it. But now it’s a real problem—no buses to Chiang Rai, only taxis. At least 2,500 baht for the cheapest one! I’ll check the bus station directly tomorrow. Online, it’s all taxis, no buses. I’d like to explore the countryside/mountains if I can find an affordable driver. Any ideas for destinations or itineraries? Thanks.

I really loved Thailand, but it was too touristy for my taste. So I'm hesitating about going back and wondering if Cambodia or Vietnam would be less crowded with tourists...

Here’s the itinerary I’ve planned for this new trip to Thailand:

Arrival – 2 nights in Bangkok (any hotel recommendations? Very quiet, near Chinatown or by the river)

Train or taxi (which app should I use for Thailand?) to Phetchaburi – 2 nights (any hotel recommendations?)

Daytime train to Surat Thani – 1 night there (any hotel recommendations?)

Pick up the rental car and head to Khao Sok – 1 night there (any hotel recommendations?)

Drive to Ko Kho Khao – 3 nights – relaxation (any hotel recommendations?)

Drive to Phang Nga Bay – 1 night (any base recommendations?)

Excursion in the bay, then drive to Krabi – 2 nights (any hotel recommendations) or any other spot with beautiful, quiet beaches that you might know?

Return to Surat Thani – overnight train to Bangkok, then Ayutthaya (any hotel recommendations?)

Visit the site and transfer to the airport – sniff, time to head back!

If you have other suggestions, keeping in mind the trip’s vibe: beach time without crowds or entertainment, a bit of nature, a bit of culture, no stress... No domestic flights and charming accommodations (not at 150 € per night, even though the budget is reasonable!)

Not sure I’ll follow them all, but all your ideas are welcome! 😉

Il y a beaucoup de questions sur les prix des taxis , mais j'aimerais des renseignements sur la durée des trajets. 1. du Lamphu Tree Hotel à l'aéroport Don Muang. Air Asia nous demande d'y être 3h avant (??) pour un vol un samedi à 10h55. On devrait donc y être vers 8h. Rome2rio annonce 20 min de trajet. Au vu des embouteillages de Bangkok j'ai un doute... 2. du Lamphu Tree Hotel pour Suvannabhumi un vendredi matin, pour un vol international à 13h, donc je pense être à l'aéroport vers 10h. Il nous serait aussi possible de prendre un taxi jusqu'à la City line. C'est juste pour avoir les éléments de choix le moment venu.

Autre petite question: les infos du post https://voyageforum.com/discussion/thailande-bien-prendre-taxi-arrivee-bangkok-d4314049/ datant de 2011 sur le taxi quand on arrive à Suvannabhumi sont elles toujours d'actualité? J'ai suivi ces indications lors d'un séjour en 2012, mais les années ont passé, et l'organisation pourrait avoir changé. Merci d'avance.

I’d love to explore the Thai peninsula: I’m looking for ideas for things to discover between Bangkok (which I know a bit) and the southern part of the peninsula down to Ranong. I’ll be arriving around 6 AM at Suvarnabhumi and want to head south right away. I’ll end my trip with 4 nights on Koh Phayam. Given that I’ll have a full week before reaching KP, do you have any suggestions for stops, discoveries, a nice hotel, etc., along the way? I’ve already thought of: - the Maeklong Market south of BKK - Damoen Saduak (I know it—nice but too touristy) - Phraya Nakhon Cave - Hanging out in Bang Saphan, which looks nice - ????? My husband and I are heading to Thailand with our two boys on July 8th. We’ll be moving around: Bangkok (3 nights), Ayutthaya (1 night), Chiang Mai (4 nights), Koh Samui (4 nights), and Koh Phangan (3 nights). We have a flight from Koh Samui to Bangkok in the afternoon the day before our return to France, arriving around 5 PM in Bangkok (it’ll be a Friday). I’m still wondering where to stay in Bangkok for this last night in Thailand. Initially, I thought about booking a hotel near the international airport, but I figured there might not be much to do there... maybe we’ll want one last crowd-filled night at a food market? So, I considered booking a hotel near the metro instead, for easy access to the airport the next morning, while still being central enough to go out for our last evening before heading back to France.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on this :-) And if you lean toward the second option, which neighborhood/hotel would you recommend?

I initially thought about spending a few days in Chiang Mai and then heading down to Koh Samui and Koh Tao, but the travel time is long, and the flight from Chiang Mai to Koh Samui is really expensive. So, I’m looking for an alternative after Bangkok while keeping Koh Samui and Koh Tao. Maybe this itinerary, but I’d love your thoughts: Day 1-3: Bangkok (3 days) Day 4-5: Kanchanaburi (2 days) Day 6: Transit Bangkok → Koh Samui Day 7-9: Koh Samui (3 days) Day 10-12: Koh Tao (3 days) Day 13: Return to Bangkok

Hi, I’m heading to Thailand (first time!) in a week. We planned to be in Khao Sok National Park on February 1st and 2nd. I got a message yesterday saying it wouldn’t be possible to do any activities on Lake Chiew Lan as planned because of “weather conditions.” Despite all my research, I can’t find any info that supports this. Does anyone have recent updates? Is it really impossible to visit the lake, and if so, are there any alternatives? They’re offering a walk to Bang Hua Rad waterfall instead. Any thoughts? We’re really disappointed—the lake looked amazing 😢

Avec ma compagne, nous organisons un voyage d'environ 20 jours en ThaÏlande. Cuba, fin Février/ début Mars et nous cherchons à définir le "meilleur" parcours en tenant compte des distances, de la durée du voyage et bien sûr de la pertinence des différentes choses à visiter.

Pour le moment nous avons seulement notre aller-retour: Départ de Paris :J1 Arrivée à Phuket: J2 à 18h20

Départ de Phuket : J19 à 20h20 Arrivée à Paris: J20

Donc nous disposons de 18 jours / 17 nuits sur place.

Après une rapide recherches, nous avons pensé à l'itinéraire suivant :

- Passer 3 nuits à Phuket - Aller à Koh Lanta le J5 y rester 4 jours - Aller à de Krabi le J9 y rester 4 jours - Aller à de Koh Yao Noi le J13 y rester 4 jours - Retour à de Phuket le J17 y rester 2 nuits, avant de rentrer à Paris

Nous cherchons un séjour accès sur le soleil et la plage. C'est pourquoi, nous avons volontairement "zappé" Bangkok, et le nord de la ThaÏlande que nous avons déjà visité il y a deux ans. Cependant, un minimum de visite culturelle nous déplairait pas.

Nous aimons particulièrement les sorties en mer et le snorkeling, ce qui semble être l'activité principale de ces iles.

Que pensez-vous de ce début d'itinéraire ? Est-ce que les durées, et les enchaînements semblent cohérents ?

Nous sommes volontiers preneurs de toutes informations concernant les activités et sorties à faire sur chaque lieu ainsi que des conseils concernant les déplacements ; ou encore le choix d'une autre île à la place de celles que nous pensons visiter.

Toutes vos remarques seront les bienvenues et nous seront d'une grande aide.

avec mon compagnon nous partons pour un peu plus de 2 semaines en Thailande et notre projet de voyage se porte sur un itinéraire à partir de Bangkok vers Sukhothai, puis MaeSot, Chang rai, Mae Sariang et revenir à Chang Mai.

Bon c'est un premier jet, on affinera sur place.

Je cherche des renseignements sur le trajet Bangkok vers Sukhotai et ça me paraît compliqué.

Nous hésitons entre le train et le bus.Ce sont les horaires qui ne sont pas cool.Arrivée à Sukhothai en pleine nuit!!!!

Nous avons pensé faire une halte à Lopburi mais ça ne simplifie pas vraiment les choses.

I’m looking for a beach spot within 3 hours max of Bangkok for the end of my trip (January). I know full well I won’t find that postcard-perfect vibe of the more remote islands! But I don’t have a choice. If you’ve got any ideas... no high-rises, obviously not Pattaya, somewhere quiet, swimming possible, a hotel right on the beach (and not too dirty, the beach itself!) I’ve looked at hotels around Ko Samet or, across from it, on the mainland. I spotted the Bann Pae Cabana. But nothing really exciting on either side. New ideas welcome! 🙂

We have the opportunity to get away for a little two-week trip at the very beginning of January, just the two of us, without our kids. Because of the kids, we haven’t traveled much in Asia, so we’d love to take advantage of their absence to explore Thailand. Even though I’m used to planning our trips, I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed this time.

We’d like to visit Bangkok and head south by renting a car (we have an international driver’s license, and my husband has driven on the left before). I’ve managed to sketch out a rough itinerary that might work for us, and I’d love to hear your thoughts.

To set the scene: we haven’t booked anything yet, we don’t like spending hours on the beach (though a little time at the end of the day is fine), we love walking and sightseeing, and what we enjoy most is being independent (so if we can avoid group tours, that’s ideal).

After that intro, here’s the rough outline of our itinerary: Day 0: Paris-Bangkok flight Days 1, 2, and 3: Bangkok (Wat Pho, Grand Palace, Wat Arun, markets, boat ride through the khlongs, Jim Thompson House) Day 4: Ayutthaya Day 5: Pick up a rental car and head to Sam Roi Yot Day 6: Sam Roi Yot and Prachuap Khiri Khan Day 7: Drive south – overnight near Surat Thani Day 8: Uthayan Tham Khao Na Nai, then drive to Ao Nang (staying near Tubkaek) Days 9 and 10: Boat trips (Railay, Ko Hong, etc.) Day 11: Drive to Phang Nga with a few stops along the way Day 12: Boat tour (mangroves and Ko Tapu) Day 13: Drive to Phuket Airport and return flight

A few questions and doubts: - I’d considered Cheow Lan Lake but read some not-so-great reviews (crowds, just 3 viewpoints, and the rest was meh). What do you think? - Can we start from Ao Thalane Pier for trips to Ko Hong and Ko Tapu? - I’m not thrilled about driving through Bangkok, but I’m not sure where to rent a car west of the city (since we won’t return it to the same place, I assume it’s best to target rental companies at airports).

J'ai passé tout le mois de mars dans le nord - Chiang Rai et les villes plus au nord puis Chiang Mai et la boucle de Mae Hong Son - J'ai beaucoup aimé mais la pollution due aux écobuages est dangereuse. Chiang Mai classée la ville la plus polluée du MONDE quand j'y étais Donc en montagne aucune vue, dommage. Rando déconseillées. En avril ça se calme dès les 1e pluies ? Et il fait très chaud déja, meme en montagne plus frais la nuit mais 39° en journée.

Bonjour, Je pars en Thailande fin janvier, et après 9 jours dans les "îles" du sud-est (Kao Lak pour commencer, puis Koh Phiphi et Koh Lanta), et avant de prendre le vol retour à bangkok, il me restera 6 jours (et 5 nuits) dont trajets. Initialement je pensais aller 3 jours à Koh Samui, puis rentrer en train de nuit de Surat Thani. Mais au final je ne sais pas si c'est le bon choix. Est-ce qu'il ne serait pas plus intéressant de passer 3 jours du côté de Prachuap Khiri Khan (et Bang Saphan), en remontant ? Ca a l'air très joli, et sans doute moins usine à touristes, qu'en pensez-vous ? Je suis plus à la recherche de beaux paysages, sports (nautiques, rando, vélo), et plutôt authenticité (calme et nature) même si je sais que ça sera tout relatif sur ce point Mais j'ai peur de me retrouver avec des trajets galère à gérer si je prends cette 2e option ; car alors ça ne serait pas possible de nuit. Ou alors priviléger Koh Phan Ngan ? Ou combiner Koh Phan Ngan et Prachuap avec le bateau jusqu'à Chumpon ? Un journée à Bangkok à l'arrivée avant le reprendre l'avion le soir est prévue et me suffira pour ce qui est de cette ville. Merci par avance de vos conseils.

Hello, We’re heading to Thailand for 26 days (excluding flights) next July with our two teens (12 and 15 years old). My husband and I have been there several times before they were born—so that’s 15 years ago—and I’m a bit worried about some of the changes that might have happened since, especially with the rise in tourism... I’d also like to keep a pace that allows us to settle in a bit and enjoy local life beyond just the main sights. Plus, we’re pretty active. For now, our plan looks like this:

Arrival in Bangkok, where we’re thinking of spending several days (minimum 4) Chiang Mai for about a week 2 or 3 islands in the Gulf Return to Bangkok for 2 days before departure.

We’re pretty set on Bangkok and Chiang Mai, but we’re unsure about which islands to visit—I’ve read such mixed things that I’m even wondering if we should consider the coast instead. Organization-wise, I’d love any tips or feedback on whether we need to book in advance at this time of year, which transport options to prioritize (train, bus, or plane), and of course, any suggestions for stops or routes.
