Je pars aux Etats-Unis vendredi avec Continental Airlines et j'aimerai emporter mon ordinateur. J'ai vu qu'on ne pouvait prendre qu'un seul bagage à main, est-ce que l'ordi compte comme un bagage supplémentaire? est-ce qu'ils ne font pas trop d'histoire à l'embarquement? Est-ce que les ordi risquent quelque chose en passant sous leurs rayons? est-ce qu'il y a des moyens de brancher les ordi pendant le vol, et faut-il un adaptateur même dans les avions? Au sujet des adaptateur, où est-ce qu'on peut en trouver (pour le telephone portabe et l'ordi...)?

De plus, j, aimerais savoir combien vaut un bracelet pour les boissons gazeuses seulement(coke-sprite etc.) Je sais qu'il ya un bracelet pour l'alcool, mais je n'en bois aucune donc si vous avez le prix pour un bracelet de boissons gazeuses, sa m'aiderait.

Bonjour Nous désirons faire la croisiere avec départ de Barcelone Espagne avec arret en France, et Italy le 2 juin 2008 a bord du Voyager ot the sea de Royal. Cela semble bien loin mais le temps passe vite, Nus avons déja contacté l'agent de voyage et le tout sera bouclé en février prochain. J'aimerais savoir si quelqu'un a déja fait cette croisiere et avoir des détails sur le bateau. Nous n'avons jamais été avec Royal. Cela sera notre premiere experience avec cette compagnie. Aussi concernant les escales en Italy, (Pise/Rome/Capiri/Parlermo Sicile), j'aimerais savoir ce que vous suggerer a visiter qui ne serait pas trop loin du port. Nous serons 2 couples qui n'avons jamais visité l'Italie alors déja nous aimerions tout voir mais puisque nous sommes limité par le temps, nous voudrions maximiser celui-ci et avoir une bonne idée des points d'interet important. Nous avions le choix ente le port et l'aéroport mais nous avons pensé que l'aéroport était plus accessible ... Apres être aller à ko chang en 1993 et 96 puis ko lipe en 2000 nous desirons retourner en thailande en janvier 2007 avec cette fois ci nos 2 enfants(18 mois et 4ans). Ko chang semble transformé et nous avons peur d'être deçu. Ko lipe est un peu loin de bkk pour une vingtaine de jours en thailande avec enfants. Nous avons vu dans certains post la province de prachuap khiri khan qui semble valoir le coup . L'acccé en train parait facile ce qui est parfait pour les enfants . Les plages y sont-elles réellement belles? Nous desirons trouver des bungallow simples et pas chers (sur une belle plages) tenues par une familles du coin, dans une ambiance sympathique, pour que les enfants puissent jouer sur la plage tranquillement. Avez vous des adresses? Est ce le bon coin? ko phan ngan est il préférable

Je projette de partir au maroc fin août, et on m'a parlé de longs délais pour effectuer la traversée en bateau (non pas sur le bateau mais avant!!!!!!!!).

Paraît-il les délais d'attente avant l'embarcation seraient très longs (contrôle aux frontières? fouille des bagages? embouteillages?? que sais-je?).

Serait-ce pure calomnie ou est-il plus prudent de prévoir quelques jours tampons en prévision?

We’re planning a cruise to the UAE/QATAR/OMAN starting from DUBAI, with flights departing from Paris CDG. Which airlines would you recommend for round-trip flights, with or without a layover? We need assistance for check-in and boarding/disembarking (my husband is a mobility-impaired traveler who uses a cane and/or a walker). We’ve done a cruise return from Dubai to Paris CDG before in 2016, with a layover in Istanbul, but we booked the transfer and return flight with COSTA. For our current plan, it would be with Celestyal, which doesn’t offer round-trip flights from Paris to Dubai. Should we book very far in advance, or is a few months before departure enough (4/6 months)? We’re thinking of arriving the day before the ship departs, so we’d need to stay overnight in Dubai—either on the way there or for the return flight, depending on the flight schedules. Could you recommend a hotel not too far from the airport, and how to get to the port from the airport?

CRETE Spring 2024 from April 11 to May 9

Thursday, April 11: Flight Montreal – Athens (Air Canada # AC 898) Flight Athens – Heraklion (Air Agean # A 3318) Fri 12, Sat 13, and Sun 14 April: Heraklion: Marin Dream Hotel: room great (a bit cramped); location great; breakfast excellent. Spectacular view (5th floor) of the port, balcony, close to the center and restaurants, cleanliness and comfort. I’ll definitely go back! We enjoyed this city, often unfairly criticized because it’s compared to the "three beauties." It’s a great entry point to the island, lets you catch your breath after a few hours of flying and jet lag, and you won’t get bored for 2-3 days. Monday, April 15 am: Car rental (pickup at the airport) Rental company: Auto Europe / Enterprise. Opel Corsica. Efficient and courteous service. Clean car in good condition. No issues. Quick return. I’ll rent again. PS: The two trips between the city center and the airport: public transport (bus): fast, efficient, and cheap.

Mon 15, Tue 16, and Wed 17 April: Agios Nikolaos Highlights: Kritsa, Knossos, Spinalonga, and Mochlos (for the breathtaking descent and the restaurant (Taverna Natural) a short distance from the descent). Accommodation in Ammoudara 72 100 (7-8 km from A.N.): Panorama Bay Villas Apartments. Location (elevated with a view of the blue sea), setting (unbeatable view), convenience, cleanliness, pool: Excellent. I’d run back here. A breakfast in Kritsa is lovely.

Thu 18 and Fri 19 April: Mirtos 720 56: A small seaside town, a bit sleepy, that can be summed up by a main street parallel and very close to the sea, with simple and smiling people. A base for lovely mountain hikes... and Gortyn. Accommodation: Hotel Mirtos: I’ve seen better! But it was only for 2 nights, and considering the rates, the enormous breakfast, and the kindness of the lady... it’s hard to complain. I’d go back if I’m in the area... for 1 or 2 nights. A taverna worth mentioning: Sigelakis, in Sivas. Sat 20, Sun 21, and Mon 22 April: Matala area: Matala: can someone explain the hype? But we were charmed by the region, its small villages (a little nod to Agia Galini), a small mountain school with its students and teacher, and its hidden little beaches... and a taverna (whose owner was a shepherd in another life) and a restaurant where we had our 3 dinners (no need to look elsewhere!). Accommodation in Kamilari(on) 700 20: Aelia Apartments: A long, narrow road through olive groves... the further we went, the more we thought we were on the wrong track! Phew! What an apartment (kitchenette, living room, two bedrooms including one in a mezzanine, balcony). Phew! What a setting, overlooking the surroundings from the terrace! I’d book again right away! Tue 23, Wed 24, and Thu 25 April: Plakias: A favorite! A lovely seaside walk with several terrace bars for an aperitif and really feeling on vacation. Morning hikes and discoveries, and in the afternoon, beach-pool at all-inclusive resorts a few kilometers away (one drink gets you in) and other small beaches. The charm of Spili, the softness of Loutro, and the enchantment of the Imbros Gorge. Accommodation: Horizon Beach Hotel: on the upper floor, a large bright room, a big balcony, and the vast sea right in front of us. Great location. A 10-15 minute walk from the center of Plakias. A great find: I’ll remember this address. In the center, on a street perpendicular to the sea, at the end of this street on your left (facing a tiny bar), one of our best dinners in Crete. The Plakias-Chora Sfakion road is breathtaking, but avoid the road—or rather the path—that hugs the sea too closely... which we didn’t do. Guaranteed sweating!

Fri 26, Sat 27, Sun 28, and Mon 29: Chania: The "big" city. The contrast with the Cretan countryside! Chania offers many attractions for tourists. We happily got "lost" in its alleys. We really enjoyed the quays for a drink at any time and for the lively atmosphere... but I wouldn’t want to be there in July! Accommodation: Boutique Hotel Del Doge. Good location. Close to the port and well soundproofed. A slightly faded decor but very decent. Spacious room and a somewhat narrow bathroom. Parking in a vacant lot along the sea: a 15-20 minute walk. I’d go back unless I find something better! Our favorite spots: we’ll remember Faka, To Stachi, and a restaurant in the center of a small square in the old part (every time we passed by, the TV was on a sports channel!) for the food, service, and friendliness of the staff. AND the ice cream! Great excursions to Valmos and Balos, Kefalas, Kaviles, Almirida, and Gavalochori. Three (3) days would have been enough to get a good sense of the city and the immediate area. It’s not a city—and I’m not even talking about the historic part—where it’s easy to drive. Tue 30, Wed May 1, and Thu 2: Paleochora. Or rather near Paleochora, in Kountoura Selinou (730 01), we stayed at Vienna Rooms Apartments. A few kilometers from the city, a short 10-minute drive, in a lovely olive grove that makes you forget the greenhouses that proliferate in the neighborhood. A large green garden, a big pool, tranquility, and the sea in front of you. Lovely apartments, well furnished, functional, and brand new (still smells new!) On the P-KS road, halfway, on the sea side, there’s a small, brand-new hotel where I’ll stop next time. What a view from the upper floor! Paleochora is a charming little town with a pleasant seaside promenade and an inner street parallel to it, lined with pretty shops. And an important detail: there’s a well-stocked wine bar, Monika Wine Bar, with attentive staff. A good selection of restaurants and a superb breakfast offering. What extraordinary excursions! Elafonissi, Sougia by boat, and up high, many tiny villages and breathtaking panoramas! Fri 03, Sat 04, and Happy Easter May 05: Rethymnon Accommodation: Hotel Casa dei Delfini. Very well located, comfortable, modern, with a certain prestige. A large dining room, stone walls, and a monumental staircase... feels like a castle (parador) in Spain... and a great breakfast. Friendly staff. The market where you can park is a 10-minute walk away. I’ll book again. Of the three "beauties" of Crete, this is our favorite. The center doesn’t (yet) have the "shopping mall" vibe that Chania has a bit too much. It feels good there. It has a cheerful air. Great restaurants. Easter day: visit around Arkadi. Otherwise, we strolled through the city to soak in the beauty of this island. Mon 06, Tue 07, and Wed 08 May: Athens. Flight Aegean #3307 (from Heraklion) Thu 09 May: Return flight: Athens-Montreal. Air Canada #899.

This was our second trip to Greece but our first to Crete. I say "first" because we’re seriously thinking of coming back in May 2025. We traveled in the blooming spring, so without the tourist crowds, and with restaurant and hotel staff in good shape... we could imagine what Crete must be like between July 15 and August 15!!! So our comments should be considered with that in mind. We’re a couple, she’s 76, and he—the driver, GPS, road map, and more—is 79. We’re living proof that Cretan roads are good. They wind, which is normal—we’re in the mountains—sometimes narrow, which is normal—we’re in the mountains—but they’re in very good condition, and Cretan drivers are respectful. Ideal travel climate: not a drop of rain or I don’t remember any! We’ll come back in May for a bit more warmth to enjoy the sea more. Food: the quality and quantity of breakfasts; dinners are good or even very good but sometimes a bit "copy-paste." Landscapes, green mountains, dark canyons (what we saw at 76+79), and endless deep blue, breathtaking. Tomatoes, olives, and honey: we’d want more. The trust restaurateurs show: you have to insist to get the bill!!! Easter: we were in Rethymnon: the crowd was much less oppressive than in Chania two weeks earlier. The kindness and eagerness of people in shops and on the street... which doubles or triples when you stammer a few words of Greek. Our favorites: Kamilari, Plakias, and... Heraklion, yes. In short, we loved it!

PS: Car rental: Why Auto Europe (Enterprise)? The ‘small local rental companies’ don’t rent (re: insurance) to people over 75 springs old!

Passionate about travel, animals (furry, feathered, scaly), and my partner’s love for photography, it was in 2014, after encountering orangutans in Gunung Leuser National Park in Sumatra, that I felt the urge to see other great apes in their natural habitat and in the wild. For my 40th birthday, I dreamed of only one thing... seeing gorillas. I still had four years to wait and four years to save up.

At the time, I had only heard of the Virunga Mountains, particularly the part in Rwanda. To be honest, Uganda had never really struck me as a destination I’d ever set foot in, and the DRC, for security reasons, didn’t particularly appeal to me.

But then, one day, I heard that Rwanda was going to increase the price of gorilla permits to USD 1,500 per person. Ouch... that seemed way overpriced, especially since we were going as a couple and I really wanted to see them twice. $6,000 for two days... Okay, it’s for my 40th birthday, but still...

At the end of 2017, I started looking more closely into our trip planned for December 2018. A stroke of luck in my schedule meant my former English teacher sent me a link to an article she’d written for her travel agency about her encounter with gorillas in Uganda. Hmm, Uganda? It was the first time I’d read about the country. Why not?

I scoured various forums in French and English and re-discovered voyageforum.com. And most importantly, I came across Ticapi’s travel journal, which I devoured in one evening, and a few months later, Muriel18’s, whose release I eagerly awaited. Wow!!! Not only can you see gorillas in Uganda, but also chimpanzees and the shoebill, not to mention the savannah and the chance to go on more classic safaris.

All that’s left is to convince my better half that Uganda is a safe country...

Usually, and now more than ever, we prefer independent travel and self-drive trips in particular. But given the proximity to the DRC border, the potentially impassable roads after rain, and rental cars that aren’t always in the best condition, we hired a guide for two weeks in December 2018. The months passed, and the excitement grew.

Three weeks before departure, I fell ill after a work trip to Asia. Darn! This time, I didn’t waste any time—I quickly saw a doctor and got rid of that virus. That was the plan! Flu or malaria? (I’d been to the Amazon six months earlier.) The doctor didn’t know; the cough only appeared a few days later. We did blood tests two days in a row to rule out malaria. So it was the flu or... pneumonia :-( ...?

The X-rays spoke for themselves—it was pneumonia, and it was already quite advanced. No big deal, I still had two weeks to recover! I religiously took my antibiotics, downed loads of vitamin C, but nothing worked—the antibiotics didn’t seem to be doing anything. I was coughing so hard I thought my lungs would come up, I was short of breath, exhausted. I’d dreamed of this trip for so long... it seemed unthinkable not to go. Five days before departure, my doctor hospitalized me—the pneumonia had worsened, and my blood oxygen levels were dangerously low. I was in tears but still in denial about what was happening to me. Besides, I’d still taken my anti-malarial, because I was determined to leave.

I spent the first day in the emergency room on oxygen 24/7. The germ causing my pneumonia was unknown to the infectious disease and pulmonary specialists. They tried a combination of antibiotics. No big deal, in four days, I’d be leaving. I harassed the doctor, who must have thought I was crazy, to find out when I could be discharged—"because, you see, doctor, I have a flight to Uganda on Saturday." On Thursday, the doctor was firm: I’d still be hospitalized on Saturday... deep down, I knew it but didn’t want to admit it. My partner handled canceling the flights, contacted our travel insurance (thankfully we had some), and I wrote to our guide (who, in the meantime, had become our tour operator) who could hardly believe it. And neither could I! We told ourselves it was just postponed and that we’d take this long-awaited trip at the end of 2019!

March 2019, the tour operator reached out to us: "Didn’t you say you wanted to go to Uganda this year? You’d better hurry and book the gorilla permits before they run out."

Oh yes, we wanted to see the gorillas. But we hesitated about rebooking. I still hoped to do this trip as a self-drive. The thing is, this year, we managed to take three weeks off, and we also wanted to spend a week in Rwanda. My partner still didn’t feel comfortable driving there. Yet, he’s driven all over the world. I respected his feelings, especially since he’s the only one who drives.

Anyway, we went back and forth but neither of us really said what we were thinking: "What if we used someone else to organize our trip?" In the end, we went with him again, made a first deposit for four gorilla permits (two days each) (not the best idea we’ve ever had), and looked into adding Rwanda to our itinerary. We’d have a guide/driver for the whole trip with mid-range accommodations.

After several back-and-forths, the itinerary was supposed to look something like this. To be honest, I got fed up after a while.

Day 1: Arrival in Kigali in the evening Day 2: Transfer from Kigali to Akagera NP Day 3: Safari in Akagera NP Day 4: Akagera NP and night in Nyagatare Day 5: Transfer from Nyagatare to Nyungwe Forest Day 6: Nyungwe Day 7: Nyungwe Day 8: Transfer from Nyungwe to Lake Kivu, Rubavu/Gisenyi Day 9: Transfer from Rubavu/Gisenyi to Kisoro/Uganda via the Cyanika border Day 10: Gorilla tracking in Mgahinga NP Day 11: Golden Monkey tracking in Mgahinga NP, night at Lake Mutanda Day 12: Gorilla tracking in Bwindi, Ruhija (later changed to Rushaga) Day 13: Queen Elizabeth NP, Ishasha sector in the morning and Kazinga Channel in the afternoon Day 14: No clear answer on activities for that day. After three attempts, I gave up. I shouldn’t have... Day 15: Chimpanzee tracking in Kyambura Gorge, night at Lake Nkuruba Day 16: Lake Nkuruba, morning activities around the lake and Bigodi Swamps in the afternoon Day 17: Transfer from Lake Nkuruba to Murchison Falls Day 18: Murchison Falls Day 19: Murchison Falls Day 20: Transfer from Murchison Falls via Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, night in Entebbe Day 21: Entebbe – Mabamba Swamps Day 22: Mabamba Swamps in the morning, Botanical Garden in Entebbe in the afternoon, and transfer to the airport for the overnight return flight.

In April, he asked us for a substantial deposit for the accommodations and some park activities, as one of his colleagues was doing the same tour in May and it would be good if he could secure the already-made reservations by paying the bill.

A week before departure, just like in 2018, we paid the remaining balance of the agreed amount. Three days later, since I hadn’t heard from him (the TO is based in Germany), I sent him a message to confirm he’d received the payment.

My partner joked, "And that’s when he tells us he closed the account we sent the money to." I forced a laugh... and even more so when the TO asked me which account I’d sent the balance to... "Uh, the same one as before." And then he told me he’d closed that account and maybe should’ve mentioned it earlier... uh, you think?! And of course, he needed the money sent again quickly. "Well, buddy, you’ll have to wait until I get it back!!!

It was already late, and my bank had been closed for hours. The next morning, first thing, I called my bank and explained the situation.

"Unfortunately, we can’t do anything for you; you’ll have to wait for the money to be returned." "But how long will that take?" "A few days or weeks, depending on the banks, and you should expect transfer fees."

Brilliant! :-(

After nearly 10 years of traveling almost exclusively without traditional travel agencies, had we just been scammed? I went back to the forums to reread posts about this TO from other travelers. They were all positive; no one mentioned a scam.

The next day, I searched online for the contact details of his bank in Germany. I wrote to the generic email address in English, explaining that I’d made a transfer without knowing that this gentleman had closed his bank account. The employee replied in impeccable English that the bank only responded to emails written in German. Grrr! I used a well-known translator since my German is, let’s say, rusty, and resent my email in German. The same agent replied in German that unfortunately, they couldn’t do anything for me—that if the account had been closed, an automatic rule would return the money to the sender... period, end of story!

Well, our money is lost somewhere in the "cloud," or so we hope! Wait and see!

No news from our TO, and we didn’t reach out either—we were too annoyed by the whole situation.

Comme beaucoup, l'Ecosse nous attire, et nous souhaiterions y passer un peu moins de 2 semaines cet été, à partir d'Edimbourg. Nous sommes une petite famille avec une grande ado. Nous cherchons avant tout trois régions de l'Ecosse où nous prendrions un hôtel pour y séjourner 4 nuits environs, et ainsi avoir au moins 3 jours pleins pour rayonner avec la voiture. Nous ne souhaitons pas faire de la route pour changer d'hôtel tous les soirs. Mais pour pouvoir choisir nos hôtels, j'ai du mal à me fixer sur des régions exactes de l'Ecosse qui sembleraient pertinentes. Merci beaucoup pour vos avis 😉

Bonjour, J'y vais prochainement pendant 2 jours, j'aurais besoin d'un conseil. J'ai réservé un vol en hélico le 2ème jour : piton Maïdo, cirques de Cilaos, Mafate et Salazie, canyon Trou de Fer, piton de la fournaise. Le premier jour, comme on ne peut pas tout voir et que je pars du port à 25 km de st Denis, j'hésite entre visiter

le sud : Saint Philippe, Grand Brûlé, piton de la fournaise, tunnels de lave, cap Méchant le nord : St Denis, cirque de Salazie, voile de la Mariée, Hell Bourg

Je vais en Croatie l'été prochain et j'emmène mon bateau. Je pense passer une semaine sur les îles au sud de split.

J'hésite à me poser à hvar ou Korcula, pour rayonner ensuite sur les îles autour (je ne dors pas sur mon bateau et je n'ai que le permis côtier).

Donc j'ai ma voiture et mon bateau pour l'ile où je vais loger, et mon bateau pour visiter les autres iles et la région.
