North to South or the opposite, i'm not too sure. Anyway, in November and December, the weather is often unstable, in the Lakes District and in the Far South as well. Probably I'd choose from Souith to North. at least, you can visit the very touristy areas (TdP,
El Chalten, Ushaia) without the crowds. And you can hope for good weather from January onwards. You could also start in the first 2 or 3 weeks by trekking in Central
Chile, not too far from
Santiago. Around Talca, Curico, you'll find some of the best trekking in
Chile. And you can start with a trek North of
Santiago (for instance quebrada de pinte San Felix near Vallenar) for a different scenery.
Crampons and iceaxe, not for ordinary treks, only if you want to attempt summits, or the campo de hielo. even so, for just one time maybe, it's better to rent.
