J'ai 26 ans et je termine mon baccalauréat en mai et j’ai 3 mois de libres avant de commencer une maîtrise en septembre 2014. Mon niveau d’anglais est intermédiaire (ou élémentaire avancée). Je veux partir à Los Angeles en immersion afin d'améliorer mon anglais et je recherche la meilleure école de langue qui correspond à mon profil, c’est-à-dire :
École:
o École qui n’est pas une usine à touristes avec des classes de plus de 15 étudiants,
o École qui accueille des étudiants entre 21 ans et 30 ans
o Cours d’anglais intensif (genre de 9h00 à 15h00)
· Hébergement : Je ne suis pas vraiment intéressé par une famille d’accueil même si cette formule semble être la plus populaire. Je recherche un appartement complet que je peux partager avec au max 4 à 6 personnes. Beaucoup d’écoles proposent des cuisines communes ou salles de bains communes qu’on partage avec 20 autres étudiants, mais ce n’est pas ce que je recherche.J’ai déjà effectué plusieurs recherches et voici ce que j’ai trouvé :
· Mentor Language Institute (Hollywood ou Beverly Hills)
o École et Appartements les plus convenables que j’ai trouvés jusqu’à maintenant avec moins de jeunes que les autres écoles.
· EC Los Angeles
o Semble très bien d’après leur site web, mais sans plus de détails.
· Berlitz
o Ils sont très réputés au Québec et au Canada, cependant, je devrai les appeler, car il n’y a aucune information concernant les séjours linguistiques et les appartements.
· ELS (Santa Monica)
o Semble très jeune comme école.
o résidence Oakwood
·École Kings (Hollywood)
o Bonne école, peut-être un peu moins jeune puisqu’elle est située près du centre-ville.
o Résidence Miranda : je n’ai lu que de mauvais commentaires
· École ELC
o Plusieurs programmes offerts
o Plusieurs résidences
o Possibilité d’étudier sur le campus d’UCLA
· Immersion VTE
· EF (Education First), j’ai rencontré une représentante et…
o Usine à étudiants selon moi
o Cours magistraux de plus de 60 élèves
o 6 cours sur 28 avec des logiciels informatiques
o 10 cours d’intérêts spécifiques avec plus de 20 élèves par classe.
Le but de ce voyage est certainement d’améliorer mon anglais dans tous ses aspects, mais aussi de m’amuser afin de fêter la fin de mon BACC.
Le problème est que j’ai 26 ans et la plupart des écoles citées si haut ressemblent toutes à des camps de vacances pour jeunes (c’est peut-être à cause de la destination, Los Angeles). Laissez-moi savoir svp si je me trompe et sinon, quelles sont les autres options disponibles.

Je suis entrain de faire les mêmes recherches que toi, mais j'ai plutôt porter mon choix sur San Francisco et avec l'organisme BoaLingua, je ne suis pas encore inscrite mais je vais demain à l'agence.
Pendant l'été, c'est surtout des jeunes voir très jeunes qui font des séjours linguistique !!!

Merci pour ta réponse. San Francisco était aussi dans mes choix, mais la température en été m’a un peu découragé.
Il parait qu’il fait 16°C en moyenne et même 9°C le soir. Laisse-moi savoir stp si je me trompe, car puisque je viens du Québec où les hivers sont assez pénibles j’aimerais bien avoir un peu de chaleur.
Pars sur San Diego alors ! C'est une ville très festive, chaude et de taille humaine contrairement à Los Angeles où une voiture est quasi indispensable

Pour ma part je le considère comme Los Angeles. C'est juste une petite ville au milieu de Los Angeles. Après tu as Santa Barbara, mais y'a moins de chose à faire qu'a San Diego :)

Et si je changes de cap et je vais à Londres. Est-ce que tu crois que c'est une meilleure destination que la Californie pour apprendre l'anglais en été. Ou est-ce que je risques de croiser trop de Français à Londres qui prennent des cours d’anglais durant les vacances?

Alors oui, j'ai finalisé mon séjour linguistique. Je pars avec l'organisme Boa Lingua pour 6 mois dans l'école St Giles à San Francisco (à partir de mi juin jusqu'à mi décembre). Je serais logé pendant 8 semaines dans une résidence près de Union Square, et après je compte trouver une collocation sur SF.
Je suis actuellement entrain de faire la demande de visa.

Effectivement, je vais moi aussi réserver la semaine prochaine, mais, j'hésites entre l'école St Giles et Converse. Cependant, mon plus gros problème est l'hébergement, je ne sais pas trop à quoi m'attendre. Mon choix repose sur les residences Vantaggio Garland, USA residences, residence Monroe ou la résidence Gaylord. Par contre, aucun hébergement ne propose un style appartement avec cuisine, ce sont tous des cuisines communes et les comentaires du web me font hésiter. Alors j'aimerais savoir, dans ton cas, quelle résidence tu as choisi et à quoi je devrais m'attendre.
J'ai pris l'école St Giles car elle a une très bonne réputation, et j'avoue, j'avais aussi -15% sur les cours, si j'y allais pour 24 semaines (la promotion est fini). Je n'ai jamais eu d'hésitation sur l'école car en voyant les avis de tout le monde, l'école St Giles était mieux et qu'elle était moins chère.
Pour la résidence, j'ai pris USA Residence, avec une chambre et salle de bain privée. Après c'est vrai, je vais devoir me forcer à faire à manger dans une cuisine commune, mais bon, va bien falloir s'intégrer et il faut pas rester dans son coin ! Et cette résidence est celle qui avait les meilleurs commentaires sur Tripadvisor.
Tu partirais quand ? Et pour quelle durée ?

Tu as bien raison, je crois que c'est le meilleur moyen de bien s'intégrer et en effet, USA residence avait de bon commentaires. Je devrais partir le 2 juin pour une période de 3 mois. Est-ce que tu as pris les cours intensifs?
Oui j'ai pris des cours intensifs (y'en a bien besoin ^^). Et j'arriverais le 12 ou 13 juin (le début des cours est le 16 juin), mais pour 6 mois.
On se verra surement, si tu t'inscris pour cette école et cette résidence :)

Alors je me suis décidé et effectivement, je partirai à la même école que toi et je serai logé au USA residence. Il ne me reste qu'à réserver. Cependant, au Québec, il n'y a pas beaucoup d'agences qui s'occupent de ce type de séjour, donc, je devrai faire affaires avec un organisme de la France. Sachant qu'ils sont très réputés, j'ai regardé Boa Lingua , comme toi, mais ils n'offrent pas la résidence USA. Si tu as la chance, laisse moi savoir comment tu as fait pour avoir cette résidence stp.
En faite, j'ai demandé à l'un des contacts de boalingua, si il y avait d'autre résidence en plus de celles qui sont proposés sur le site. Elle m'a dirigé vers un site internet, et j'ai choisi dans celle proposé en plus.
Donc, adresse toi à un des contact (la mienne s'appelle Audrey sur l'agence de Lyon), et demande lui si y'a d'autres résidences de disponible, et tu pourras choisir ^^. Elle est sympa et te répond assez rapidement :)

mais j'hésite aussi car je ne connais pas sais compagne. Je compte allée pour 6 mois, mais sais pas donner je fais mes rechercher de mon coté (école et logement séparément mais sais pas évident d'avoir des contact fiable)

Hello, pour ma part je serai également sur Santa Monica. j'hésite encore entre ESL et ELC...
Un changement brutal m'a décidée à partir cependant comme il me reste peut de temps pour les préparatifs je recherche le maximum de conseils svp. La plupart des résidences proposées par les écoles me semblent pas génial, du coup je louerais bien un logement via airbnb. Si par hasard il y a des intéressés pour une colocation, faites moi signe :)
Et pour les personnes qui sont déjà sur place, que pensez-vous de votre séjour et de vos choix ?

Si jamais, je recherche une colocataire fiable pour un logement proposé par un contact sérieux que j'ai eu sur place par ma famille qui vit à Philadelphie.
C'est un appartement 2 chambre situé à Venice Beach près de Marina Del Rey. (env. 45 minutes en bus de Santa Monica)

Alors oui, moi je suis partie, et malheureusement je suis déjà revenue. J'ai passé 6 mois à San Francisco, et 7 mois au total aux USA.
Mon séjour a été incroyable, mon anglais c'est amélioré, mais l'aventure humaine a pris le dessus. Tu rencontres des gens du monde entier et tu tisses des liens super rapidement. Bref, c'est la plus belle expérience de ma vie.
J'ai eu un gros choc quand je suis rentrée en France, où l'atmosphère et les gens sont totalement différents de la Californie.
Je te conseille vraiment de partir, cela t'apportera énormément humainement et linguistiquement ^^.

Hello Kendrick, je suis partie à Los Angeles étudier 1 an à UCLA extension en marketing, c'était génial. L'école propose des certificats dans des domaines précis (business, marketing, cinéma...). Du coup, j'étudiais avec des étudiants américains et internationaux. Je suis passée par une petite agence The Young Travelers, l'équipe était au top, à recommander. J'espère que ça pourra t'aider!
Hello, oui c'était plus qu'un séjour linguistique car j'avais déjà un bon niveau d'anglais. C'était des cours de marketing en anglais pendant 1 an. Si tu cherches plus à prendre des cours d'anglais, regarde Mentor Language Institute. Pas mal de mes amis sur place avaient pris cette école et étaient assez contents.

My name is Deborah, I’m French. I’m married and have two children. I’m a clinical psychologist specializing in psychotraumatology, and I’m also pursuing medical studies.
For some time now, I’ve been seriously considering moving to the United States. My long-term goal is to practice medicine in the U.S., with a particular interest in forensic pathology. I know the journey is demanding (USMLE, residency, fellowship, etc.), but I’m ready to commit to several years of hard work.

Our departure time is getting closer (we have less than 2 years left—it’s both a long time and so short!). To start preparing seriously, we’ll need quite a bit of info. If anyone knows the rates charged by movers for a crate to French Polynesia, or what pitfalls to avoid (I know you can get quotes directly from movers, but I’d love insights from actual customers😉).

Actually, I’m currently doing a postgraduate diploma in pediatric respiratory physiotherapy and want to specialize in that area.
