Il n'est jamais trop tard pour rendre compte de son voyage. Le confinement me laisse enfin du temps pour le faire.
Je suis parti le 17 août 2017 et je suis rentré le 7 février 2018. Entre temps, je suis allé en Argentine par cargo puis une fois sur ce continent, j'ai visité l'Uruguay, l'Argentine et le Chili.
Durant tout ce voyage, j'ai tenu un carnet journalier.
Je me propose de vous le livrer.

Je passe bientôt 2 nuits à Iguazu (côté argentin) et j'aurai souhaité des tuyaux ou suggestions pour des hôtels pas chers, de préférence près du centre ou même très peu chers. Merci à l'avance
PS : pour des hôtels pas chers à Buenos Aires la calle Peru c'est le must absolu et proche du centre. Par exemple 1100 pesos à l'hôtel Casino, petit-déjeuner compris. Un peu bruyant les matins de fin de semaine

Initialement nous avions prévu, pour début 2020, de se faire un road-trip rando et faune au Costa Rica mais avec notre déménagement surprise à Cayenne on s'est finalement dit que ça risquait d’être un petit peu redondant avec la Guyane (Foret tropicale, jaguar, perroquets tout ça tout ça...). D'où l'Argentine ! 😉 Enfin plus précisément la Patagonie.
Nous projetons donc de partir 3 semaines en Argentine entre Février et mi-Mars.
L'idée serait de faire un road-trip de 2 semaines et demi en Patagonie, en van si possible, et de finir par un aller-retour de 2-3 jours aux chute d’Iguaçu.
Le mieux semble d'arriver à El Calafate, d'y louer un van et faire une boucle avec El Chalten, si possible Torres del paine, puis descendre sur la terre de feu et Ushuaïa.
Je voulais rapidement voir avec ceux qui ont déjà visité cette région, si ça semble réalisable ? Est-ce que vous avez des loueurs de vans à conseiller ou autres conseils en tout genre ?

Today, we started looking into traveling in April 2026, either to Chile or Argentina. It’s our first trip to South America. I’ve only been to French Guiana once, about ten years ago, for the space center. In recent years, we’ve usually gone to Asia during the spring holidays.
Based on the flight tickets I’ve found, two arrival and departure options are available: - Arriving in Buenos Aires and departing from Salvador de Bahia. - Arriving in Santiago, Chile, and still departing from Salvador de Bahia.
We’re considering flying business class on the outbound flight so we arrive a bit more rested. The travel class might influence our choice between itinerary A or B.
We’d like to spend two days at Iguazu Falls (both the Argentine and Brazilian sides), which explains the departure from Brazil.
Initially, we thought about arriving in Buenos Aires and staying in Argentina before heading to Iguazu. However, the itinerary forces us to go back through Buenos Aires.
We love nature. The El Calafate region seems to offer beautiful, easily accessible landscapes. Maybe there’s another area we should prioritize.
Here are two itineraries—what do you think? I know it’s short, but we can’t add any more days. We’ll have to make it work.

As I do every month, here’s an overview of the situation in Argentina—useful if you’re planning to visit in the coming weeks!

What’s new? The parallel exchange rate and the official BNA rate are almost the same—just 2% higher for the parallel rate, which won’t really change your trip! Pay as much as possible in cash—discounts are still common at bars, restaurants, and even hotels. Even if it’s not advertised, always ask! You can still withdraw cash via Western Union, as before. Paying with a Visa or other card is still possible, and the CCL rate is even above the parallel rate today, meaning +3% compared to the official rate. However, you won’t get discounts when paying by card.
As always, **do not** withdraw money from ATMs—the fees in Argentina are still outrageous. Also, don’t forget that winter break in Argentina starts today, Friday, July 4, in 10 provinces for two weeks, until Sunday, July 20. On Friday, July 11, it begins in 9 more provinces until Sunday, July 27, and finally, in the last 4 provinces (including Buenos Aires and the city of Buenos Aires—the most populated), it runs from Friday, July 18, until Sunday, August 3. In short: 3 zones, each with two weeks off, stretching over 4 weeks total.
In previous years, I’d have warned you: “Be careful if you’re traveling, as buses, flights, and often accommodations are at high occupancy.” But this year, poorer and middle-class Argentines aren’t traveling because “No hay plata,” and those who can afford it are heading to Brazil, Chile, or even Miami for cheaper parties and shopping—Brazil can be twice as affordable! So, in Argentina, the top destinations for these staggered winter breaks are Bariloche (first place), followed by Ushuaia, San Martín de los Andes, and Villa La Angostura. Mendoza comes in fifth, then El Calafate, and finally Salta and Córdoba. As you can see, wealthy Argentines travel in winter to see snow—it’s chic to be cold and go skiing! Bariloche is the most expensive, while Córdoba is the cheapest. Same services, for example, a flight plus 7 days plus a hotel in the same category: Bariloche is 2.5 to 3 times pricier than Córdoba or even the sierras of Córdoba. Yet, there’s plenty of availability. Most people don’t have the money (and you might say Patagonian winter destinations aren’t exactly middle-class friendly either), but with fewer Brazilians or Chileans taking advantage of “cheap” Argentina, space is freed up. Brazilians alone used to make up 50% of Argentina’s international tourism—so there are suddenly fewer people on flights and in hotels! For these destinations, hoteliers are hoping for (at best) a 70% occupancy rate, though 50% would already make them happy. Why? 1- Lack of foreign tourists, 2- The middle class preferring to visit the old aunt in Posadas (to show family loyalty and spend as little as possible),
3- The wealthy opting for Bariloche, Punta Cana, Búzios, or Miami, which drastically lowers domestic occupancy rates and increases the outflow of USD abroad. +66% of Argentine tourists traveled abroad in the first five months of 2025. Six million Argentines vacationed abroad between January 1 and May 1, 2025.

Nous avions essayé d'avoir des informations sur le taux de change il y a quelques jours, mais n'avions pas eu d'informations précises. Comme nous sommes maintenant sur place voici quelques nouvelles Le meilleur taux de change officiel , la banque de la nación : vendredi 8 novembre 65,9 ars pour 1€ mais au noir dans le centre de Buenos Aires ( Florida ou Lavalle) le taux est bien supérieur : 70,00 ars pour 1€ Eviter les cuevas officielles, le cours était à 62 ars pour 1 € et bien sur éviter de faire des retraits dans des DAB. Pour nous touristes l'Argentine est très peu chère actuellement juste un ex. à la même époque l'année dernière le litre de super à Salta était de 42,3 ars cette année le litre de super est à 52,90 ars , la seule différence c'est que l'année dernière nous avions 40ars pour 1€ et cette année nous avons autour de 66 ars pour 1€ et même 70 ars pour 1€ au noir. Même si l'ex que l'on donne ne permet pas une totale vision du taux de l'inflation ( car le prix de l'essence n'a pas subi la même hausse que d'autres produits) Autre ex les repas au restaurant sont pour nous beaucoup moins chers que l'année derniere pour une même prestation. Est-ce qu'il y a des gens qui ont fait l'expérience de changer de l'argent sur ce type de marché ?
Je crois que l'idée c'est de changer des dollars américains pour des pesos argentins surtout sur la rue Florida a Buenos Aires. Mais ce type de marché doit exister dans d'autres villes de l'Argentine du Nord-Ouest ?

Hi everyone,
I’m planning to spend about a week in the Amazon in April or May—the dates aren’t set yet—flying in and out of Manaus.
I’d love to hear about the must-see spots in Manaus besides the theater and the Amazon Museum.
After that, I’d like to take a boat trip on the Amazon or the Rio Negro to escape the city and find some peace for a 3- or 4-day trek in the forest.
I also saw that the town of Presidente Figueiredo is worth visiting for all the waterfalls nearby.
If you’ve been to Manaus and have any recommendations, I’d love to hear them.

Voilà je suis actuellement entrain de préparer un voyage de 15 jours pour le mois d'octobre dans l'une des deux destinations précédentes mais j'ai du mal à me décider..
En effet, je compte partir pour la 1ère fois en Amérique du Sud, seul et j'ai peur de me retrouver solo dans l'une de ces 2 destinations.Ayant voyagé plusieurs fois en thailande, je ne me suis jamais senti seul à aucun moment et j'ai toujours été très bien accueilli.J'aimerais retrouver un peu de cette ambiance là, avec des gens ouvert au dialogue, etc...
-Concernant le Brésil(Rio principalement), ce qui me fait hésiter c'est la langue car je ne parle pas du tout un mot de portugais et le prix du billet(200€ d'écart avec la Colombie).Et je me demande s'il y a pas mal d'endroits ou rencontrer du monde...De plus, le budget me semble pas mal élevé également.
-Concernant la Colombie(Bogota, Medellin, carthagène des Indes);je me débrouille bien en espagnol, donc cela fait un plus.J'ai également comparé le prix des hôtels et il y en a pour tous les goûts., ce qui allège pas mal le budget.En revanche, ce qui me freine le plus c'est la sécurité surtout que j'ai l'impression que ça bouge pas mal le soir avec les bars, discothèque, etc...
Pour résumé, Je recherche une destination correcte(niveau budget), des gens sympas avec qui faire la fête et avec un minimum de sécurité.Donc si quelqu'un peut éclairer ma lanterne.

-Concernant la Colombie(Bogota, Medellin, carthagène des Indes);je me débrouille bien en espagnol, donc cela fait un plus.J'ai également comparé le prix des hôtels et il y en a pour tous les goûts., ce qui allège pas mal le budget.En revanche, ce qui me freine le plus c'est la sécurité surtout que j'ai l'impression que ça bouge pas mal le soir avec les bars, discothèque, etc...
Pour résumé, Je recherche une destination correcte(niveau budget), des gens sympas avec qui faire la fête et avec un minimum de sécurité.Donc si quelqu'un peut éclairer ma lanterne.

Nous partons en Novembre en Patagonie, et après avoir terminé le W à Torres del Paine au Chili nous passerons 8 jours entre El Calafate et El Chalten. Cela devrait nous laisser le temps de faire les randos au départ d'El Chalten tout en ayant du rab en cas de mauvais temps...
En plus des randos : Nous ferons bien sûr le Perito Moreno, par contre nous ne souhaitons pas faire la croisière de 7h jusqu'aux autres glaciers, (entre le parc et le glacier grey à torres del paine je pense qu'on aura eu notre dose, et payer cher pour passer 7h sur un gros bateau n'est pas ce qui nous passionne le plus).
Nous pensons aussi faire une ballade à cheval à El Chalten (j'ai vu sur ce forum et ailleurs que beaucoup recommandent El Relincho).
Ma question : que faire à El Calafate notamment pour profiter d'un beau panorama sur le lac et les terres ? (en plus d'une ballade à la réserve de la laguna nimez) On m'a parlé des journées en estancia mais j'ai peur que cela soit devenu un attrape touriste, certains d'entre vous ont-ils des retours récents, des recommandations de certaines estancias en particulier ? Je m'étais renseignée pour une excursion pêche également mais les prix sont prohibitifs (250 dollars par personne!) Vaut-il peut-être mieux louer une voiture à la journée pour se balader dans les terres et s'arrêter à l'envie, avec son pique nique ?

Next April, I’m planning a trip (the 1st) to Brazil. I’ll have 12 days there (not counting the 13th day for the return). I’ll arrive on 22/04 in the early evening in Rio de Janeiro. The return flight is from São Paulo on 04/05 in the afternoon. I know 12 days is very little for such a big country, which is why I’ll focus on a relatively small area: the southeast (though "small" is relative!). I’ve started mapping out the main stops for my trip, which would be: - Rio de Janeiro: 4 to 5 days? - Ilha Grande and maybe Paraty: 2 to 3 days - Iguazu Falls: Brazilian and Argentinian sides: 2 days - São Paulo: 1 to 2 days
What do you think? Is this reasonable? There are about 250/260 km between Rio and Paraty. I’d like to make the trip by rental car. What do you think? A car is definitely much more practical and faster than the bus. 12/13 days is short—I can’t afford to lose too much time in transit. To get to Ilha Grande, I understand there’s a ferry that shuttles between the mainland and the island. From which city can you take the ferry? Mangaratiba? Conceição de Jacareí? Angra dos Reis? If I arrive by rental car, where can I park it? I think cars are banned on the island, right? That’s where I’m at with my planning. We’re heading to Brazil at the end of August for a month as a couple.
Could anyone help us find accommodation and particularly interesting spots along this legendary route?
We’ll be renting a car and plan to make 2 or 3 stops, but we prefer exploring on foot or by boat once we’re there.
I know that lodging is particularly expensive there and that access to nature is usually on private properties, but our budget is limited and comfort isn’t our priority.

J'hésite entre Ipanema (qu'on me conseille, cf plage et sécurité) et Botafogo, voire d'autres, qui seraient plus "carioca"...! We’ll land in Rio and spend 6 days there (we’ve finalized a home exchange for a lovely apartment in the Copacabana neighborhood). After that, we’re heading to Minas Gerais by rental car for 11 days (Tiradentes, Ouro Preto, and the Inhotim Institute), then the Costa Verde, and finally 2 days in São Paulo.
We’ll be traveling with our three kids, ages 17, 14, and 9, who are real travelers and good hikers. Goes hand in hand, right? 😄
For now, we’ve planned to visit Ilha Grande (4 days) and then Paraty and its surroundings (3 days). What do you think? Ilha Grande appealed to us for its hikes and beaches, but couldn’t we do that along Paraty’s coast? I’ve read mixed reviews about Ilha Grande...

Hello, We're a family with three boys aged 8 to 14, and we'll be in Brazil next April. We land at GRU around 4 PM on a Saturday and want to head straight to Paraty.
I've seen several options:
Private taxi: Do you have any contacts for private drivers or companies that could transport all five of us directly from the airport and that I can book in advance? I’ve already reached out to a few, but the rates are really high.
Uber: I tested the app from France, but it doesn’t offer vehicles for 5 people (Uber XL). Is that the case locally too, or is it because I’m testing from France?

Bus: Take a bus from the bus station, either directly in the evening (departures around 9 PM and 10:30 PM—7-hour trip) or the next morning. This isn’t my preferred option because I’d either have to take a late bus right after we arrive (and I’m not sure how safe the area is at night, based on what I’ve read) or book a hotel to go the next morning and lose a night.

Hi there, we’re spending 2 full days in El Calafate and we’d like to visit Perito Moreno. The prices through agencies are sky-high, so I’m trying to figure out why by looking at the cost of the bus separately, park entry separately, and the boat separately. I’m still way off the total amount. From reading several blogs, it seems like we could do it ourselves by renting a car. What do you think?

We’re thinking about our next destination for June 2026, and northern Brazil seems like a great option for that time of year.
We were considering a 15-day trip from Fortaleza to São Luís (or the other way around), but I’m worried it might not offer enough variety in terms of sights and landscapes. We were thinking of doing a trek in Lençóis Park, visiting Jericoacoara, the Parnaíba Delta, etc.).
The other option would be to take a domestic flight and add the Salvador de Bahia region and Chapada Diamantina, but that would require about 3 weeks.
Do you think exploring the coast between Fortaleza and São Luís is enough for a trip if we don’t kitesurf? Or is it better to combine this part of the country with another region (Salvador? The Amazon?)?

Vous qui avez visité beaucoup de pays. Pourriez-vous m'aider à choisir ma prochaine destination SVP ?
Je voyage avec mon mari (la soixantaine tous les 2) sacs non pas à dos mais à roulettes, hotels à budget moyen. J'organise tout moi même. Nous partons 3 mois de Noel à mi mars chaque année. Nous avons fait toute l'Asie du sud est, que nous avons beaucoup aimé. En Amérique nous avons fait et aimé :
le Nicaragua, l'Equateur avec la Galapagos, Cuba et le Yucatan au Mexique.
A force, nous ne savons plus où aller, sachant que nous souhaitons du soleil et un peu de plage ou des îles au moins de temps en temps dans le voyage. Cette hiver, nous avons tenté l'Inde du sud et les Andamans, mais cela ne restera pas notre voyage préféré.
L'hiver prochain, je tenterais bien la Colombie. Qu'en pensez-vous ? L'Argentine est aussi faisable à cette époque au point de vue climat. Quels pays me conseilleriez vous ?
La Bolivie aussi a l'air chouet.

I’m planning a trip to Brazil in October and decided to go through an agency to organize our itinerary. I asked two agencies to put together a circuit with transfers, hotels, organized visits, and one domestic flight. I don’t speak Spanish or Portuguese. 6 nights in Rio 3 nights on Ilha Grande 3 nights in Paraty Domestic flight to Salvador for 3 nights 3 nights in Morro de São Paulo 1 night in Salvador before flying back to France. For this itinerary, I’m going with Tourlane, but I’m still waiting on the second quote from Comptoir des Voyages. I’d love to hear your thoughts on the itinerary and especially on these agencies—thanks for any feedback! 😊
