Patagonia: looking for a 4x4 rental with a fitted camper cell?

Hi there,

I’m planning to explore Argentine and Chilean Patagonia for a month in December 2019.

I’m looking for a rental company (or several) that offers single-cab 4x4 pick-ups with a fitted camper cell for two people. I’m specifically after a vehicle with an indoor shower for extra comfort ;) So, no vans—at least not from the rental companies I’ve seen so far.

While browsing the forum, I came across the Chilean rental company Holiday Rent. But do you have any recommendations for Argentine rentals? Because, if I can’t return the vehicle in the same city as pickup, I’d prefer—and it’d likely be cheaper—to at least return it in the same country.

Hi there,

We’ve just returned from Patagonia (Argentina and Chile) and saw lots of Wicked Campers vehicles (small vans, but I think there were also a few camper units!). Check their website for details!

Happy trip planning,

Sophie

Hi Sophie, Thanks for your message. I already checked Wicked Campers’ site, but they only have fitted vans with pretty basic setups. That’d work for me, but my travel buddy won’t go for it 🤪.

So I’m leaning toward a 4x4 with a proper camper cell instead.

Safe travels! !

Hi Sylvain, During our 6-week trip in Argentina, we rented a 4x4 camper (Volkswagen Amarok 140 HP 2.0 L) with a shower and toilet, sleeping area, and dining space (no need to dismantle the bed to convert it into a "table" version). It was a double cab, but single-cab versions are also available. We booked through CampingCar Online, an agency we usually use for our motorhome rentals. Their prices are more competitive than going directly through local rental companies, and communication is easier—especially regarding insurance (included or not)—since it’s in French. Plus, if there’s ever an issue upon return, French laws apply. Happy to share more details if you’d like! Miesele

Thanks a lot, Miesele. I’ll check out this rental company and probably reach out to them 🙂.

Hi there, We're also looking for a pickup truck rental in Argentina for Patagonia. Did you end up finding one, and if so, which one? Any feedback on how the pickup handled in practice? Thanks! Céline
