Alala... c'est chiant ces histoires d'assurance de véhicule en Namibie. Personnellement ca me fait trop peu en cas de problème (surtout que l'on est toujours des gros poissards, même quand on fait attention et qu'on ne prend aucun risque).
Franchement, si on n'arrive pas à avoir une assurance assez rassurante concernant ce point, je pense que nous n'irons pas en Namibie. C'est triste à dire, mais bon voilà, pour ma part je trouve que c'est trop risqué...
Effectivement, il y a des options "rachat de franchise" avec Madiza, Tourmaline (ou autres compagnies), mais apparemment dans tous les cas, il n'existe pas en Afrique Australe des "assurances tous risques" comme chez nous. En gros, il y a pleins de cas ou tu pourrais être considéré comme "en faute" et devoir payer la totalité des réparations. De ce que je comprend, si par exemple tu as un gros accident et que tu détruis le véhicule, tu peux avoir à payer le véhicule... 30 000 euros par exemple... Perso, non merci. Partir en voyage pour 2500 à 3000 euros par personnes et se retrouver à la fin à devoir payer un véhicule... c'est juste pas possible pour moi.
Petit passage d'un contrat que j'ai reçu :
"Aucune assurance ne couvre les dommages attribués à une négligence. Dans ce cas de figure l’ensemble des frais sera à votre charge sans aucune limite de montant. Cela peut inclure le prix du véhicule, son remorquage… de plus, le loueur n’est pas tenu de vous donner un véhicule de remplacement, et s'il le fait, cela pourra faire l’objet d’un nouveau contrat de location"
Avec pleins d'exemples, dont :
"- Les accidents sans présence de tiers, si vous perdez le contrôle du véhicule sans présence choc avec un animal ou un autre véhicule"
En gros, si tu perds le contrôle de ton véhicule sans faire exprès et ben tant pis pour toi...
Franchement ça me fait halluciner... Et c'est pour ça que sur les forums il est dit que pour pallier à ce problème il faut prendre une carte Visa Infinite, et là tu seras bien assuré (enfin, comme dit plus haut, il faut bien regarder toutes les conditions et aussi avoir le droit à ce genre de carte...).
Je viens de regarder sur le contrat de ma carte MasterCard World Elite (rien que le nom ça fait frémir) Fortuneo et j'ai pas cette notion de véhicule équipé pour dormir :
"Désigne tout véhicule terrestre à moteur à quatre roues, immatriculé, servant à transporter des personnes, loué auprès d’un professionnel habilité et d’une valeur à neuf inférieure ou égale à 100 000 € TTC. Oui, apparemment les conditions d'assurances de ces cartes dépendent des banques...
J'ai vu que pour avoir le droit à cette carte gratuitement chez Fortuneo (cool) il faut "4 000 € de revenus nets mensuels à justifier à l'ouverture et à verser chaque mois sur le compte Fortuneo"
Et le problème est que mon salaire est versé sur mon compte courant CIC. En gros il faudrait "changer" de banque pour avoir le droit aux options de la carte MasterCard World Elite de Fortuneo.
Tout ça pour avoir une assurance pour la location d'un véhicule en Namibie... Mamamia... 😄

Les assurances Infinite BNP et Infinite Banque Populaire sont souscrites auprès de 2 prestataires différents, en l'occurence Europ Assistance (via SPB) et Axa.

Qui loue un véhicule équipé camping en France (type Namibie ) et d'ailleurs où en trouver? Il y a peu de pays au monde où l'on en trouve.
Quant aux clés, si tu es au fin fond du Damaraland et que tu casses ou perds tes clés ? Que tu sois assuré ou pas, t'es dans la mouise.

Mais tu ne vas pas changer de CB ( donc de banque) à chaque voyage que tu fais parce que dans tel ou tel pays tu n'est pas garanti de la même manière car il y a aussi cela à prendre en compte.

Je fais tous mes voyages avec les mêmes cartes et les mêmes banques depuis très longtemps, et je ne compte pas en changer. J’ai juste « upgradé » mon niveau de carte, pour avoir une super couverture, parce que la Visa PREMIER n’était pas performante.
Nous avons une carte chacun, dans 2 banques différentes.
Il se trouve que les contrats de nos 2 banques étaient bons, c’est tout. Une chance!
Dans mon message, j’ai juste signalé des petites différences qui sont anecdotiques.
Et j’ai signalé les points faibles qui sont communs à TOUTES les cartes ( pas de responsabilité civile conducteur, restriction de durée, etc...)
Pas de restrictions non plus sur le type de routes empruntées, ce qui compte quand même!

Je m'incruste un peu dans la conversation. Mon mari et moi partons en Namibie en Mai 2020 et nous sommes à fond sur cette histoire d'assurance de 4x4.
Nous pourrions obtenir la Visa Infinite de la BNP. Si j'ai bien compris, elle remplit tous les critères pour combler ce vide d'assurance. l'avez-vous utilisé lors de votre voyage en Namibie ?
Oui, je l'ai utilisée pour mes locations de voitures en Namibie (et dans d'autres pays comme l'Australie par exemple, ce qui m'a évité de prendre les assurances du loueur qui n'assurent pas tous risques. Je n'ai donc pris aucun supplément chez le loueur.
Mais je n'ai pas eu besoin de faire marcher l'assurance!
Simplement : le loueur bloque le montant du dépôt de garantie (il ne l'encaisse pas), donc il faut le prévoir pour le plafond de la carte. Et ce montant est débloqué au retour si pas de problème.

I also considered Zimbabwe but I’m worried it might be a bit chilly at night in June.

After that, we’re planning to visit Gorongosa National Park before flying back to France from Beira. We’re planning a 4x4 trip from Belgium to Central Asia, passing through Georgia, Russia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan.
For these countries, our national insurance obviously doesn’t cover the vehicle, so we’ll need to get local insurance.
Will it be a problem if the vehicle is registered under person A and the national insurance is under person B? Both A and B will be in the vehicle, and both will be listed as drivers on the insurance.
When we get the local insurance, if we again list A and B as drivers, does the order matter? Could we get stuck at the border for this reason?

Were they All Terrain tires or more "standard" ones like all-season tires, for example?

I’m planning a trip to Iceland for next July-August, with a car and tent, and I’m wondering about booking campsites.
From your experience, is it necessary or even essential to book campsites in advance, or do you always manage to find a spot to pitch your tent?
We’ll also have the option to sleep in the car without pitching the tent.
Does that give us the flexibility to stay outside a campsite for a night here and there?

We’ll alternate between bivouacking and small hotels/riads depending on the stops.

Our goal:

We’re planning:

Flexible for the rest (booking the day before or same day)
Sand gear: traction plates, compressor, tow strap, roof rack
Questions:
Is the Zagora → Chegaga → Iriki → Foum Zguid crossing in July doable on our own (single vehicle, no guide)?
Are there any truly technical or risky sections between Chegaga and Iriki?
Does the overall itinerary seem manageable in 13 days without rushing?
Any suggestions for great bivouac spots or particularly interesting stops along this route?
The points on the route are provisional overnight stops. Some spots will include two nights in the same area.
We’re used to off-road driving, but not yet in the Moroccan desert.

Day 1: Sesriem to Mirabib
Day 2: Mirabib to Swakopmund – visit Swakopmund, overnight in Swakopmund
Day 3: Sandwich Harbour – overnight in Swakopmund
Day 4: Kayaking with the seals + the living dunes – overnight in Swakopmund
Day 5: Moon Landscape, Henties Bay + Cape Cross – overnight at White Lady Lodge in Brandberg
Does this itinerary seem realistic to you? Is Cape Cross really worth the trip? If I had to choose between Cape Cross and kayaking with the seals, which would you recommend?

However, the rental agencies we’ve found prohibit driving on the tracks to Omalo (Tusheti) and/or Ushguli (Svaneti).
Do you know of any agencies in Tbilisi (local and reliable) that allow rented 4x4s to drive on these tracks? If so, which ones?

I’d love to visit Gonarezhou National Park—I see there are two sectors: the Mwenezi Region in the south and the area around the Runde River in the north. Should I cover both sectors or just focus on the northern region?
For the parks along the Zambezi River, is it better to visit Mana Pools on the Zimbabwe side or Lower Zambezi on the Zambia side?

I’m leaving in November for about a month with the goal of reaching Senegal via Mauritania. I’d love to share this trip with someone who wants to discover Mauritania and a bit of Senegal... and also experience life on board a 4x4 in the desert or bush, sometimes sleeping in the vehicle or in hostels/small hotels for comfort. I’m looking for a rental company (or several) that offers single-cab 4x4 pick-ups with a fitted camper cell for two people. I’m specifically after a vehicle with an indoor shower for extra comfort ;)

While browsing the forum, I came across the Chilean rental company Holiday Rent. But do you have any recommendations for Argentine rentals?
Because, if I can’t return the vehicle in the same city as pickup, I’d prefer—and it’d likely be cheaper—to at least return it in the same country.

My trip to South Africa is starting to take shape.
However, I'm struggling to figure out the route through Kruger Park. I can't seem to find the information I need about getting around.
Coming from the south, I plan to arrive on Day 1 in the early afternoon at Malelane or Crocodile Bridge.
Do some shopping in Malelane (or Crocodile Bridge main area) and stay overnight outside the park.
Leave on Day 2 at 5 AM for the park. Explore the southern part of the park.
Stay overnight around Skukuza or Lower Sabie. (We don’t want to stay in one of the park’s big camps. We’re looking for a lodge around 200 €.
Head out on Day 3 for a self-drive safari, maybe as far as Orpen.
We’d like to stay in a private reserve on nights 4 and 5.
We’re not sure which one or how to get into a private reserve. Do we need to exit Kruger Park?
On Day 5, we’d like to leave to visit Blyde Canyon (on Day 6).
