Good evening Joël and the dear photographer, Thanks again for this episode packed with details—ending in CHINATOWN couldn’t delight us more... If next year your steps take you to MYANMAR (which I love), please enchant us again with your stories. Until then, I wish you FAIR WINDS and good luck. Thanks again for sharing. Best regards, Annebleue

Hi there,

Our trip is over! :(

I hope to travel to Myanmar soon; in the meantime, I’ll live vicariously through your next travel journal. 😇

Thanks again.
HA Hazdru ·
Once again, thank you all. I'm leaving for Laos and Bangkok in two weeks. Thanks to you, I'm already there. Haz.

Thanks for this vivid and engaging travel journal—it’s over now, but it’s taken me right back to our six trips to Thailand. Every time, we discover new things and get more comfortable with Bangkok, just like you. Your journal and the stunning photos make me want to leave again reeeeally soon! Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait another 3.5 months before we fly to Myanmar and... Thailand for six weeks.

I’ve saved your journal in my bookmarks so I can see it, revisit it, and reread it whenever I’m feeling the travel itch! Thanks for this amazing share, the beautiful writing, and those photos—everything is just gorgeous!

Hello Joël and Madam(?) Thank you for these travel stories and photos—they really transported us during the fall. Thanks for the delicate, respectful descriptions and those wonderful pictures. You wrap up just as we’re buying our tickets to Bangkok for our trip at the end of January. Thanks for the inspiration!!!

Safe travels

Good evening,

I just read your travel journal, and I have to agree with everyone else—congrats on the quality of your writing and photos, as well as the insightfulness of your perspective on these fascinating countries.

My wife and I have been traveling through them for over ten years now, and while I wouldn’t call us experts (that’d be pretty pretentious), I’d say I know these regions fairly well—we spend an average of three months a year there. We got back two months ago from a "loop" we love and do regularly: Thailand, Laos, and Cambodia.

All this to say, I feel a little guilty for not sharing my experiences with the VF community like you do. I guess I’m just a bit lazy and not very comfortable typing.

But for those interested, at the bottom of my post, you’ll find a link to our travel photos.

Thanks again for your work.

Best regards,

Loïc.😉

I’m one of those who’ve been registered on VoyageForum for several years now, checking in regularly to plan trips or just to dream. I used to join the discussions, but I hardly do anymore: either the answer’s already been given (I don’t spend my days on this forum, and often a topic’s already had several replies by the time I see it), or the question is so basic and has been covered 2,000 times that I don’t feel like answering. I just discovered your travel journal, and I really enjoyed it: practical but not *just* practical, beautiful photos but not *just* photos—basically, everything that makes for a really pleasant moment. So thanks for all the work, and happy travels on your next trip to Thailand, where I’ve been going almost every year for 15 years now and love it more and more...

Hi there,

I just discovered your travel journal today and spent part of this Sunday morning reading it and admiring your photos. I’ll be coming back to it often. Your story is a real pleasure to read—refreshing despite the heat of the places you describe, sprinkled with humor, packed with details, and making you want to follow in your footsteps. So human. Simply put, thank you.

Manu.

Good evening,

Jojoone has written two more, just as excellent; you can find them through his profile.

Hello everyone on the Forum, and a big thank you to Joël and your amazing photographer. I stumbled upon the forum this morning while looking for info on Thailand, and I read your stories. Maybe not all of them yet, but already quite a few, believe me. So I signed up just to tell you how much I enjoyed reading you—your style is really, really pleasant, and the photos are stunning. I’ve already noted a few places I’ll definitely visit when I make it to Laos, Thailand, Vietnam... Big plans, but it’s great to have projects. Thanks again.

A huge thank you for this first post and those lovely compliments. We wish you amazing travels. And we’d also like to take this opportunity to wish happy holidays to our forum friends who are heading off this winter—lucky you! !

I was immediately less interested in Cambodia than in most neighboring countries. Apart from Angkor, we wouldn’t really find what we were looking for there. I took a closer look at Myanmar, which we’ll discover next year, and it’s radically different. It seems extremely interesting and appealing to us. Travelers’ feedback is almost always positive, too. There’s so much more to see. I’d even say it deserves two trips: roughly a north-south route for the central part of the country and a west-central to southeast route for the south. The climate when we go won’t allow us to push as far as Mrauk U and Hpa An, so if you visit them next winter, we’d love a full and detailed report! 😛 In the meantime, watch what you eat!

Hi everyone, and thanks to the last two contributors. As a supplement, you can check out last year’s travel journal and also the one from 2015, which is still in progress. After that, we won’t be able to offer more right away, but you can ask your questions to other forum members—some of them know the area much better than we do.

hi,

I’m starting to plan a trip to Laos for early 2017, and I’m gathering tips from other travelers. You mentioned putting together a guide on Laos—it sounds like you know and love the country! I’d love to hear about your experiences.

Thanks so much, and I hope you have a wonderful Christmas.

Hi Joël, As promised, here I am joining you on this distant journey... through time.

When it came to the quality of the meal trays, we would have devoured them—but only after a week without eating on a deserted island. The cabin crew didn’t win us over. Ultimately, we didn’t appreciate the behaviors, attitudes, or looks from most of the people we crossed paths with during our layovers in Delhi on the way there and back. This year’s experience definitely put us off choosing this airline again—or even setting foot in India ever again. It’s personal, but it’s clear.

You can’t judge a country, let alone its people, just because you had a bad trip with a bad airline and based on passengers you barely crossed paths with during a layover. Especially since Indians who travel—especially in 2014—aren’t at all representative of the Indian population you’d get to know if you didn’t have such strong opinions and decided to visit India...😉 When I see some French people in airports—with their outfits and behavior, especially in groups—I’m embarrassed to be French and do everything I can so no one identifies me as one of them.

While quite a few customers were still around, four employees walked along the tables to take out the day’s two big trash bins. They were pleased with themselves and having a good laugh. It made us laugh too, in the end: seeing it done so naturally when some people would have been absolutely outraged to witness something like that in a similar establishment back home!

Well, well! No better than India, then...😉

Actually, I discovered your writing much later, and in any case, those words don't describe you at all.
