Back from 3 weeks in Morocco in April

I was able to see the photos but couldn't copy them.

On the traveler’s forum, the little tuk-tuks have become a thing...

For shoes, the only solution is flip-flops, espadrilles, or canvas sandals. I just can’t get used to the idea of having a man at my feet. (Except for mine, of course ;)) In Spain during the Republic, they even banned tipping, considering it demeaning. A good salary was better than random tips that required bowing and smiling.

But everyone’s got to make a living. We once had our shoes shined while sitting on the terrace of a restaurant, and when he was done, the young shoeshiner sat down to eat too. So...
JE Jeeaan Globetrotter ·
Most shoeshine customers are locals.
VE Vero3000 Regular ·
Fortunately, otherwise shoeshiners wouldn't be able to make a living.
DD Dd44 Veteran ·
It’s pretty much the same with horse-drawn carriages. Tourists aren’t the only ones getting around by carriage—you’ll see lots of Moroccans in them too.
JE Jeeaan Globetrotter ·
And that’s true for cycle rickshaws in Asian countries too.
DD Dd44 Veteran ·
Same for me. I can’t stand the idea that a guy has to pedal just so I can get around. I know he’s earning a living, but I find it really tough to see someone having to make a living that way. Electric tuk-tuks have been in the Bordeaux area for a few years now (Bordeaux and the Arcachon Basin), but at least they’re electric. I can’t upload a photo—it doesn’t have enough pixels. If someone can tweak the photo, you can find it at this link. https://www.groupon.fr/deals/un-tuk-tuk-dans-la-ville

I saw these little electric vehicles in Bayonne last week.
HA Hannahannah Globetrotter ·
Just got back from the region—it was amazing. How’s it going in the Basque Country?

DD Dd44 Veteran ·
Absolutely great, even if the weather was a bit unpredictable.
TR Trostang Globetrotter ·
In the Lot area? We just got back. We stayed in Saint-Cirq-Lapopie, at Mas de Cantagrel—absolute bliss. And the weather was gorgeous… with a little evening storm.
HA Hannahannah Globetrotter ·
We got back last night—took a little three-day getaway along the Lot River, on the other side of Cahors. We followed the route from Puy-l'Évêque to the old village of Pradines. Pure bliss—I know Saint-Cirq-Lapopie and wanted to explore this stretch that lets you cross from one bank to the other often. Looks like we’ll end up meeting after all. 😎

God willing.
DD Dd44 Veteran ·
The southwest is really popular this summer—we were in the Basque Country.
TR Trostang Globetrotter ·
Not too humid?
DD Dd44 Veteran ·
A little. But that never stopped us from going out and exploring. We were lucky.
JE Jeeaan Globetrotter ·
Indeed, I saw those modern tuk-tuks.
DD Dd44 Veteran ·
The southwest was a hit this year. A really beautiful region.

I confirm, the address recommended by Daniel in Tafraoute, L'Arganier des Amelnes, is really great. Thanks for the tip! We spent a few days there. Magnificent. In every way: hostel, location, sights. Nothing but pleasure!
HA Hannahannah Globetrotter ·
I can also confirm this great place, which hasn’t been in the *Guide du Routard*’s good graces for some time now. We wonder why! Clean rooms with private bathrooms, a gorgeous terrace surrounded by mountains for lunch or dinner in the evening during the season. Good meals. A clean pool with a large patio. A more than friendly welcome. Affordable prices for half-board. It’s one of my favorite spots in the South.

""It’s one of my favorite spots in the South.""

Me too. And it makes sense—everything’s done to make you feel at home in this place.

I just reread your story with so much pleasure. You can really feel all the happiness you experienced during this amazing adventure that is travel. Morocco in the spring is gorgeous—it’s like spring and summer combined, with all those flowers and harvests everywhere.

The harvests in May, an old combine harvester near Igherm.

Exceptional travel story. Your photos are stunning. Spring is amazing in Morocco. But maybe it was an exceptional year? We should go at the end of March. We hope to see those gorgeous landscapes again.
TR Trostang Globetrotter ·
Thanks, Alizé. I hope you have a wonderful trip to Morocco. I think I’ll be there in April too, with friends who haven’t been to Morocco yet. Like you, they’ve found these landscapes stunning and bright.

Thanks for everything. And maybe see you soon if I need your experience.
TR Trostang Globetrotter ·
I’d be delighted.

Let’s hope it rains in Morocco. Water is desperately needed in some regions. Last year, they had some rain, which partly explains those blooming landscapes.
VE Vero3000 Regular ·
Some regions are suffering more than others. The south, of course, but not only...
TR Trostang Globetrotter ·
Northern Morocco gets quite a bit of rain. It's the south that struggles.
DO Dorothy17 Regular ·
This year, it seems like snow has fallen in both the north and the south. I saw that Taroudant was affected, just like Zagora or Ouarzazate.
HA Hannahannah Globetrotter ·
Snow really fell everywhere.

This is one of the reasons I reply to people who want to know what the weather will be like at any given time—with climate change in recent years, you just can’t predict anything.

I hope the almond trees in the Anti-Atlas weren’t too badly affected.

JE Jeeaan Globetrotter ·
It's the weight of the snow that sometimes causes damage—the branches break under the weight.

And right now, do you know what kind of weather we can expect in the Dades Valley? We're leaving at the end of the week. Thanks, Hannah.

Looks like a beautiful week ahead if I can trust this weather site, which is pretty reliable. http://maroc.lachainemeteo.com/meteo-maroc/ville/previsions-meteo-skoura-94358-0.php

Yes, you can trust their short-term forecasts.
HA Hannahannah Globetrotter ·
This is the most reliable site I have for Morocco, Spain, and France. But beyond three or four days, don’t dream too big. Meanwhile, snow is falling where I am, but it’s not sticking. I need a touch of Morocco 😉

I see a little cool-down is expected for next week. Maybe winter’s last hurrah.
