I saw this kind of basins in Siem Reap, Cambodia. Not very hygienic...

To catch fungal infections and all sorts of fungi, there’s nothing better. It’s best to head to the small gueltas in the Paradise Valley. It’s not stagnant water, even if it’s not always clean!

And it's way nicer!

And yet, there are still lots of visitors. Feet are tired from the kilometers walked around the Angkor site in the heat and dust.
JE Jeeaan Globetrotter ·
In this case, massages are effective. Even if they’re sometimes done assembly-line style.
AL Alizé13 Regular ·
Foot massages, of course... It's also common, often in pedestrian streets... Out in the open...

OK! Makes sense.

Right now, it's quieter. Only locals—or almost—get to enjoy this site. If it's open to visitors!

And yet, for now, I think the country hasn't been hit too hard by COVID-19, and that's great for them!
HA Hannahannah Globetrotter ·
The country is affected, unfortunately, as highlighted in this article shared in another post.

..... Praised for its exemplary response to the pandemic, Morocco has been facing a significant increase in contamination cases since the relaxation of the state of health emergency. Moroccan authorities are concerned, as the European Union, Rabat’s main economic partner, could decide to close its borders to its nationals.

Just a few weeks ago, the kingdom was still seen as a model in the fight against the new coronavirus pandemic. A general lockdown was declared as early as March 14, and schools and universities were closed soon after. All events gathering crowds were canceled when the country had fewer than 40 Covid-19 cases and only one death. However, although initially described by the press as "flawless," Morocco’s pandemic strategy is now facing criticism, and the population’s trust has been largely eroded.

Since the gradual lifting of lockdown began, a relaxation of safety measures and the emergence of major contamination clusters, particularly in industrial units, have led to a significant rise in Covid-19 cases, nearly wiping out all the progress made so far. The epidemiological situation has become "worrying," given the increase in infections, severe cases, and deaths from the disease, stated Health Minister Khalid Ait Taleb on Monday, July 27, in Rabat. "The number of contamination cases recorded in just one week exceeds what was reported in four months in Morocco," he declared during a press conference following the decision to ban travel between eight major cities in the kingdom, including Casablanca, Marrakech, and Tangier. https://www.marianne.net/monde/covid-19-face-une-recrudescence-de-l-epidemie-le-maroc-lutte-pour-ne-pas-etre-mis-sur-liste?utm_term=Autofeed&utm_medium=Social&utm_source=Facebook&fbclid=IwAR0suL5d0Qr31M7yL572HaFrFw1wFRPZcyof5iLi3uxpKp0p5g8yyBxv3N4#Echobox=1596117264

Yes, Morocco is affected by the epidemic, but Cambodia is much less so.
MI Milo53 Regular ·
Maybe we should consider a trip to Cambodia this autumn?
AL Alizé13 Regular ·
No matter which destination you choose, it might be tricky!

I live in Tangier, I’ve got a few days off, and the only place I’ve found is the town of Asilah—just 40 km from my city—where the spirit of the Portuguese hunters still lingers around its ramparts. It’s where my wife and I will take refuge for a while. Beyond that, the roads are crawling with police, and I really don’t feel like begging someone for a travel permit! I’d rather wait a bit longer before going farther. I’m really missing the south—people are so welcoming there! I used to travel 5,000 km in three weeks, and now I’m stuck with just 40 km!!!

DA Danouck Regular ·
Are the beaches accessible?
IB IBsiglo Regular ·
Public beaches? No way! Sure, they're supervised, but on the roads a bit further out, especially toward the east—Ksar Sghir, Martil, Oued Laou—the authorities are more lenient or just turn a blind eye.

Many beaches are currently off-limits. It’s not an easy situation!

If things go well, I’m thinking of following all or part of your itinerary for about twenty days in April 2021.

Let's try to believe it! 2021 is just around the corner! So fingers crossed!

Even though I'm naturally optimistic, I'm starting to doubt I'll be able to take this trip in the coming year. The horizon isn't clearing up much at the moment.

TR Trostang Globetrotter ·
For now, we’re not making any plans to go abroad. The future’s too uncertain. We’ll be visiting France, but in the dead of winter, there won’t be too many destinations to choose from...
SO Soju Veteran ·
After all, and luckily, we're planning to go to Aguinane among other places in April. Is access still possible with a Dacia after the earthquake? Thanks for your feedback.
SOJU
JE Jeeaan Globetrotter ·
I haven’t been there recently, but I think it’s doable. I don’t believe that region was affected by the earthquake.
SO Soju Veteran ·
That’s reassuring. Thanks to you all.

If you're coming from Taliouine, be very careful because the road isn't easy.

I went there last week—it’s doable, but the road was damaged by the autumn rains. It’s still manageable in a regular car if you take it easy.
JE Jeeaan Globetrotter ·
We were there three weeks ago—it’s true that you can get through, but we had to drive through the wadi.
SO Soju Veteran ·
Actually, it wasn’t the earthquake that damaged the track to the Aguinane oasis—it was the autumn rains. But we didn’t have any issues; everything had been fixed so we could get through just fine. And we found the oasis absolutely stunning.

I’m so happy to hear that everything’s going well in Aguinane. We have such great memories of it.

The Aguinane oasis, a project we've got in the works. February might still be a bit too chilly temperature-wise. Maybe it's better to wait until April? What do you think?
JE Jeeaan Globetrotter ·
Yes, if it's possible, it's better to go in April. The weather will be nicer there.
VI Viovio2 Regular ·
We'll wait for spring. Might as well optimize the conditions. Thanks.

Hi Danouk, It’s very likely I’ll pass through Tata in October, and Aguinane is a bit further north. I’m not familiar with that little spot. Could you suggest a route for me? Either from Tata, Taznakht, or Taliouine. I’ll try to sort something out. My main route is from Taliouine to Tafraout, then to Tata via Aoukrad. Thanks.

I’d also like to make it to Aguinane in April 2026. Did you manage to get there without any particular issues? Thanks for sharing your recent experience. Have a great day.

From Tata or the RN 12, head to Akka-IrheN (don’t confuse it with Akka-IrheM), then take the direction of Agmour and straight to Aghinane. At the exit heading north, the road splits in two. The one to the right goes toward Asarrakh, but I haven’t taken it yet and don’t know where it leads or what its condition is. The one to the left leads straight into the village of Agadir Melloul on the p1743l. It’s in great shape if the rains have spared it.

The best option, actually, is to start from the RN 12 (Tata). Starting from Taliouine is more complicated, especially when you arrive above Aguinane.

The souk in Magdaz is extraordinary, and your photos are particularly stunning. You’ve beautifully captured the light.
