I aimed for an excursion to the Chigaga desert from M’Hamid because it seems less touristy and allows for a more compact loop. Is that a good idea? Is the drive to M’Hamid maybe too tedious?

Tips for a 20-day family itinerary in the American West in 2028
Hello everyone,
After our first trip as a young couple to the West in 2007 (yes, that doesn’t make us any younger!), we’re planning to go back in 2028, but this time as a family of four! (We have two boys who’ll be 5½ and 13 years old in the summer of 2028.)
Our plan is to combine a few big cities (SF and LA, maybe San Diego) with national parks and state parks, mostly! Ideally, we’d like to leave at the end of June and head back to France around July 19–20, so we can enjoy the first week of the Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
Since we already did the "loop" in 2007, there are must-see places we absolutely want to revisit—and especially share with our kids: Bryce Canyon, Yosemite, and above all, the Grand Canyon, which is still the most incredible thing I’ve ever seen on Earth!
On the other hand, some places didn’t leave a big impression on us for various reasons, so we’re not making them a priority: Antelope Canyon, Monument Valley, for example.
We’re planning ahead, but might as well be smart about it😏
Do you have any tips for a fun and doable itinerary over about 20–25 days with kids, without rushing?

Choosing a lively city with nightlife to live in France
Hi there, I’m facing a pretty big and important dilemma—I moved to Argentina (Buenos Aires) when I was 20, and now, at 30, I’m coming back to France.
I’m looking for a city to live in and build a life for the next several years. I’m a single guy, so that’s the context.
The thing is, I have quite a few strict criteria... First and foremost, I *need* a city that’s bustling with people everywhere—I really don’t like quiet, small countryside towns. Nightlife is super important to me, especially on weekends. It’s crucial that there’s a wide range of options for going out in the evening (mostly bars—I’m not really into nightclubs, but I’d like to be one day if possible). The social aspect is the *most* important thing (honestly, the *only* thing that matters to me). I don’t care at all about living conditions, safety, cleanliness, or whether things work smoothly. But I *do* need a place where people are generally "chill"—not cold, rigid, or overly professional, with social norms that don’t make my head spin. I know I’ll never find the same Latin vibe here in France, haha, but I’m trying to survive anyway.
In France, I’ve always lived in Essonne (91), around Bures-sur-Yvette / Les Ulis / Gif / Orsay, etc. I *hate* it—way too quiet, empty streets, and zero activities that suit me. There’s not a single proper bar in any of the surrounding towns, just PMU tobacco shops, and nightlife is nonexistent.
I went to Hossegor once with friends—great vibe, nightlife, bars, beach, etc. But I’m guessing it’s *super* expensive to buy a place there, close to the action (and I’m not even sure if it’s a nice place to live overall).
When I came back to France, I spent 3 months in Paris because I thought it would obviously be the closest to what I was looking for. I still have horrible memories of it—it haunted me so much that I had to escape the capital in a hurry... And I was (I think?) in one of the best neighborhoods for my tastes: Belleville.
So here I am, going in circles because I don’t know enough about French cities. All my friends love quiet, small provincial towns or even living alone in the mountains.
A couple told me about Montreuil, but they were there a long time ago, so I don’t know what it’s like now. They said there was activity, that the city was pretty big, and that there was a good nightlife scene (bars, nightclubs, all kinds of outings), plus the metro (which would make it easy to get to Paris or for people to come to Montreuil from Paris).
So, for now, Montreuil is my only option, but I’m scared and would love other opinions (on Montreuil and other possibilities).

Denied compensation for over 3-hour delay on American Airlines

My wife and I took American Airlines flight no. 63 on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at 9:30 AM, with a scheduled arrival in Miami at 1:30 PM local time.
After about half an hour of flight, a young passenger had a medical emergency. They were given care, and a flight attendant went to get an oxygen bottle. Then, an announcement over the loudspeakers informed passengers that the plane was diverting to London.
Once at London Heathrow (LHR), we were waiting to depart again. But a new announcement asked us to disembark because the plane wouldn’t be able to take off until the next day. (American responded to my follow-up, saying they’re required to limit their staff’s working hours to a certain number per day.)
A crowd of travelers gathered at the American Airlines counter, where they were told to follow instructions to get to a hotel. Meanwhile, I called the airline’s customer service to find a replacement flight that same day, since I couldn’t afford to leave the next day. If I had, I would’ve lost my hotel and car rental reservations due to late cancellation, which would’ve cost me a significant amount.
After discussing in English with customer service and the counter staff (who I handed my phone to), we managed to get two seats on British Airways flight BA 0209, which was leaving about 2 hours later.
That’s how, after a stressful wait unsure if we’d get our luggage back, and once we did, we hurried—heavily loaded—to reach the far-off terminal for our new boarding on foot and by train shuttle.
We finally took off for Miami and landed around 7:30 PM, which was 6 hours later than the originally scheduled arrival time of American Airlines flight 63.
On top of the stress, there were the costs of meals in the meantime, and I had to notify the hotel and car rental company about our delay.
As a result, I requested compensation for a flight delay of at least 3 hours (and I’ve involved my insurance’s legal protection to pursue this claim). American Airlines argued that exceptional circumstances prevented them from compensating me.
What do you think? Is my request unreasonable?

Récemment lors de mon parcours sur la transméditerranéenne (EV8) de Narbonne à Draguignan j'ai eu une mauvaise surprise.
À un moment je m'arrête pour boire puis au moment de repartir lorsque je positionne mon pied droit dans le cale-pied j'ai une sensation étrange. Je regarde. La semelle de la sandale s'est détachée ! Il reste attaché à mon pied les sangles elles-mêmes attachées à la semelle interne. Je n'ai pas d'alternative. Comment faire ?
Je cherche un Decathlon (merci Osmand) car on est lundi ce sont les seuls ouverts. Le plus proche est à Arles pas très loin. Oui mais je ne peux pas pédaler, ni marcher.
Dans ces cas là malgré l'émotion, la colère de voir qu'on ne peut pas compter sur un matériel conçu pour faire de la randonnée (merci Colombia), ça cogite dur. Finalement je prends la petite sangle de fixation de la gourde. Je l'enroule autour de mon coup de pied pour solidariser la semelle externe au restant de la sandale toujours attaché à mon pied. Et nous voilà parti vers Decathlon par le chemin le plus court et le plus plat (merci encore Osmand).
C'est quand même incroyable que la semelle externe ne soit que collée. Un matériel de randonnée on doit pouvoir compter dessus. Une semelle doit être collée et cousue pour prétendre être de qualité randonnée.
En conclusion je suis à la recherche d'une paire de sandales résistant au pédalage et à l'eau sachant que j'utilise des cales-pieds de VTT.

En me connectant avec mon numéro de réservation sur la TAP, j'ai pu me rendre compte que nos vols en octobre pour le Cap Vert étaient annulés. (Les vols existent toujours et sont réservables via leurs site pourtant .... mais le prix et x4 quasiment !)
Je n'arrive pas à les joindre par téléphone (surtaxé d'ailleurs) ni par mail car ça me dit "error" à chaque fois via leur site.
Comment faire?

Idéalement un endroit plutôt dans les terres, qui nous permette de rayonner en voiture pour différentes activités (selon ce qu'il sera possible de faire en août avec la CoVid... 🙁) avec notre enfant qui aura 3 ans et demi : surtout de petites balades en forêt, peut-être une location de vélo avec carriole s'il y a des pistes cyclables ?, visite de jolis villages, bien sûr aller voir la mer mais plutôt des baignades en lac, etc. Et le moins il y aura de monde, le mieux ce sera. 😛

Watch out for Airbnb's new policy!
We’ve been using Airbnb’s services for years during our trips across Europe, mainly in France. We were pretty happy with it, but we’d never needed to contact them (we only booked with Superhosts) before the Covid-19 pandemic hit.
Airbnb introduced a "Force Majeure and Coronavirus (COVID-19) Policy." This policy states (the BOLD is mine) "Bookings for Airbnb stays and experiences made on or before March 14, 2020, with a check-in date between March 14, 2020, and June 15, 2020, may be canceled before the check-in date. As a result, travelers who cancel in accordance with our Policy will receive, at their discretion, a travel credit or a full refund. Hosts can cancel in accordance with our Policy without fees or impact on their Superhost status, and Airbnb will issue a refund or travel credit for an amount including all service fees."
Since we complied with their policy, we were able to get refunds for 4 out of 5 bookings—MINUS the service fees, which they credited back to us with a useless expiration date of December 30, 2020, knowing full well we won’t be able to travel this year. :-(
However... NOWHERE in this policy do they mention that these cancellation terms are tied to the listing’s cancellation policy at the time of booking. They only refer to the "Force Majeure and Coronavirus (COVID-19) Policy." So for the 5th booking, since we only had 48 hours to cancel without fees, they’re "offering" us... $11.23 back on a $349.19 deposit! Of course, we also have the "option" to accept a credit for the full amount... to be used by December 30, 2021 (oh, that’s *so* much better, right?). Except, how is it fair that WE are penalized because not only are we under travel restrictions, but the HOSTS of this booking CAN’T HOST US?
We’ll have to go along with their bad faith (those 2020 expiration dates), and hosts who work with Airbnb should expect to lose customers they might’ve seen again once travel resumes... but they can forget about us—that’s for sure.

Bonsoir, nous sommes dans une situation un peu complexe en cette période compliqué pour tous.
Nous avons réservé un vol Marseille-Montreal pour août sur le site d'Air Canada. Notre vol aller a été supprimé et notre vol retour a été décalé au lendemain avec une arrivée à Nice (ceci le 15 mars 2020). La liaison de Marseille a été tout simplement annulée le jour où nous avons été informés de l'annulation et de la modification du vol. Nous n'avons aucun retour de la part d'Air Canada et même la demande de remboursement ne change rien. Sur internet le vol aller n’apparaît plus et nous ne pouvons pas modifier le vol retour. De plus notre voyage est comptabilisé à 0€.
Voici des extraits des réponses que nous avons reçu d'Air Canada après les avoir relancés : " l’indemnité que vous demandez ne s’applique pas parce que vous avez été informé de la modification de l’horaire au moins 15 jours avant le départ du vol. Veuillez suivre les instructions sur la page d'informations pour modifier votre réservation. Vous avez peut-être également reçu un courriel d'Air Canada avec des options pour gérer votre réservation.Nous tenons à vous aviser que nous suivons la situation de très près et nous sommes en constante communication avec les autorités de la santé canadienne et internationale. Nous allons continuer à modifier nos horaires de vols et les routes desservies à mesure que la situation évolue.
Nous vous remercions de nous avoir contacté à ce sujet et espérons que nous aurons l'occasion de vous accueillir à bord de nouveau."- Autre courriel suite à une autre demande :

Nos hôtels sont réservés, j'aimerais ne pas tout annuler, simplement Go-voyage (on perd 400e mais c'est moins pire que 2000). Le 20 novembre ma belle-famille Québécoise m'a fait la belle surprise de m'offrir des billets d'avion afin d'être parmi eux pour Noël. Après l'excitation, les remerciements... Un problème s'est forcément posé: je n'ai pas de passeport, et ils ne le savaient pas. Le lendemain matin première heure je cours à la mairie pour faire ma demande avec tous les papiers demandés. Aucun problème ne se pose.
En revanche, je vis depuis dans le stress constant de ne par avoir mon passeport à temps: le billet est prévu pour le 19 décembre et nous sommes le 6 décembre... Je m'y suis donc pris, malgré moi, 1 mois (ou presque) avant la date de départ prévue. A savoir que mon passeport est "en cours d'instruction par le service instructeur".
Après avoir lu de nombreux témoignages sur ce forum et d'autres, je n'ai pas trouvé les réponses à mes questions. J'ouvre donc ce sujet pour vous demander: - Vous qui avez déjà eu votre passeport, combien de temps est-ce que ça a pris ? - Et surtout, habitant à Cannes, est-ce que quelqu'un de la région pourrait me dire en combien de temps est-ce qu'il a obtenu son passeport ? - Dernière question, si quelqu'un le sait, est-ce que le mois de novembre est un mois où la demande augmente ?

Avez vous eu l'occasion de rouler sur la Transcanadian (ou Le Grand sentier) de Quebec à Toronto (voire Detroit).

Applications pour créer son itinéraire à vélo sur une e-Carte English translation pending
Salut !
Parfois je lis certains blog de voyageurs à vélo et j'aperçois leur petit tracé sur une carte du globe qui montre leur itinéraire depuis leur départ.
Dans l'idéal j'aimerai créer mon itinéraire d'un voyage déjà fait, qui permet de retracer le passage exact, les routes empruntées et puis y ajouter des logos pour montrer où l'on a posé sa tente, emprunter un bateau etc..
J'aimerai bien qu'on me dise quels logiciels, quels applications bref sur quels sites aller pour créer son itinéraire..et si un de ces sites sort du lot, simple et efficace.

Voyage à vélo en décembre: parcours Nantes-Biarritz ou sud de la France English translation pending

On souhaite partir faire un tour à vélo (tandem) d’environ 3 semaines à 1 mois fin décembre-début janvier, en France. On hésite entre le parcours Nantes-Biarritz et un parcours au sud de la France, du côté de la Méditerranée. On aime rouler sur des pistes cyclables « sans trop de danger ». Pensez-vous que ce soit faisable vu la période choisie? Si oui, que nous conseillez-vous en fonction de la météo prévisible en cette période?
Une dernière précision : on dort généralement dans des hôtels.

Cela fait un certain temps que je recherche un organisme pour partir l’année prochaine aux États-Unis pour un an en immersion totale en highschool. Malheureusement un peu en vain.
Mes exigences sont assez précises et cela ne facilite pas ma recherche.
Je me tourne alors vers vous pour avoir des conseils et peut-être trouver l’organisme qui me correspond le mieux.
Tout d’abord, je souhaite me rendre aux États-Unis sur une année scolaire complète à fin de possiblement passer la graduation là-bas. Je serai bachelière âgée de 17 ans au moment du départ ( je suis né en 2003). Je souhaite me rendre principalement en Californie du sud, je cherche donc un organisme proposant soit le choix de l’état, soit de la ville ou encore mieux l’établissement scolaire ( sur un an et acceptant une bachelière ). C’est un projet que je prends très au sérieux et à cœur alors j’espère trouver mon bonheur. Cependant la question de l’argent est une vrai problématique. STS par exemple, nous a proposé un tarif de 35 300€ pour une année dans un lycée privé à proximité de Los Angeles, je comprends le prix mais c’est hors de mon budget. Mon budget est autour de 15 000€ même si moins cher serait idéal. Je suis ouverte aux établissements publics et privées du moment que j’ai la possibilité de choisir l’état ou la ville. Je peux m’ouvrir à d’autre état si vraiment ma demande n’est pas réaliste par exemple la Floride ou Pennsylvanie au pire des cas. Je souhaiterai être en famille d’accueil dans l’idéal. Si la possibilité de passer la graduation n’est pas réalisable je peux toujours passer au dessus malgré que c’était mon but premier.
