Annual surfing contest at Kata
KATA: The third annual Quiksilver
Phuket Surfing Contest will be held from September 14 to 16 on Kata Yai beach, with prize money totalling 250, 000 baht up for grabs.
The all-amateur contest will have the same three categories as in the previous two years: the shortboard, the longboard and the longboard-paddling race.
The shortboard competition is limited to 48 entrants with surfboards up to 8 ft, while the longboard competition, for boards over 8 ft, is limited to 32 entrants. The longboard-paddling competition is limited to 36 competitors.
The event director this year is international surfer and surfboard designer Kym Thompson and the contest will be judged by classic Hawaiian surfer Ed Angulo.
The deadline for entries is 6 pm on September 13. Entries should be registered at either of the two Aloha Surf Sports stores on Thaweewong Rd,
Patong, or at the shop on Patak Rd, Kata (across from Dino Park). Alternatively, competitors may register online at

Registration is 500 baht, which includes a complimentary bag with beach merchandise, a competition T-shirt and entry to the Surf Party on September 15.
