C'est une "charter school" qui prépare au programme IB. Le programme IB comprend 3 niveaux selon l'âge des enfants et conduit à un diplôme qui est effectivement reconnu par les universités françaises et américaines (c'est considéré comme très prestigieux). Ce n'est pas exactement le programme du bac- il n'y a pas de filières, on demande une plus grande autonomie et créativité, le cours de philo comprend une plus grande part d'épistémologie qu'en France, il faut faire un mini-mémoire de recherches type TPE et si on n'a pas la moyenne on n'a pas le droit d'obtenir le diplôme (à la différence des TPE).
C'est vraiment un très bon programme mais pour l'instant on ne peut pas savoir si celui-ci "marche" dans cette école précise car il n'y a pas encore eu de candidats à l'examen donc je ne pense pas que l'école puisse être accrédité par l'institution IB (l'école est accréditée comme école publique de la ville de NY puisque c'est une charter school). Pour l'instant l'école n'a que la GS et le CP-CE il me semble donc on ne sait pas trop ce qu'il en est. Il va falloir surveiller les résultats aux tests puisque parfois les "charter schools" marchent mieux que les écoles publiques, et parfois moins bien. Déjà, une des caractéristiques des charter schools qui fonctionnent est remplie: les élèves ont cours jusqu'à 16h30 cad des journées plus longues que d'ordinaire aux Etats-Unis. Et pour les enfants francophones c'est une super occasion de rencontrer des jeunes Américains d'origines diverses et variées sans être totalement perdus. :)

En effet, il me semblait qu'à NYC l'admission en charter school se faisait par lotterie - on en a même fait un documentaire qui s'appelle "the lottery"

donc si vous avez réussi à faire admettre vos enfants hors loterie je crois que beaucoup de parents seraient très intéressés.
J'ai eu une place par la lotterie mais voici la réponse de la directrice de l'école:
Le bac comprend les eleves au lycee. Nous avons des eleves beaucoup plus jeune. Alors, tout ce qui concerned le bac sera developper au fur au mesure.
Toutes les loteries ne sont pas pareilles. Ce film presente une analyse sur certaines ecoles et leurs loteries. NYFACS , comme etablissement bilingue, n'est pas une ecole populaire. Certains americains n'arrivent pas a acceullir l'education bilingue. Pour cela, pendant ces premiers deux ans, NYFACS a utilise la loterie, mais avec moins de demande d'inscriptions, beaucoup plus de familles ont etes accuelli.
L'ecole a 20 places pour l'annee scolaire 2011-2012 actuellement disponibles. Certaines familles americaines ont decide d'enlever luleurs enfant parce qu'ils pouvait plus soutenir une scolarisation bilingue.
Avec des places libres, NYFACS peut inscrire des eleves sans loteries tout de suite. Si vous connaissez des gens qui voudront inscrire leurs enfants cette annee avant la loterie de l'annee scolaire 2012-2013 sera obligatoire.

My name is Deborah, I’m French. I’m married and have two children. I’m a clinical psychologist specializing in psychotraumatology, and I’m also pursuing medical studies.
For some time now, I’ve been seriously considering moving to the United States. My long-term goal is to practice medicine in the U.S., with a particular interest in forensic pathology. I know the journey is demanding (USMLE, residency, fellowship, etc.), but I’m ready to commit to several years of hard work.

Our departure time is getting closer (we have less than 2 years left—it’s both a long time and so short!). To start preparing seriously, we’ll need quite a bit of info. If anyone knows the rates charged by movers for a crate to French Polynesia, or what pitfalls to avoid (I know you can get quotes directly from movers, but I’d love insights from actual customers😉).

Hi, I’m a self-employed physiotherapist in France, and as my wife (a nurse) and I look into working abroad in about two years, I’ve been offered an equivalence to become a respiratory physiotherapist in Switzerland. Actually, I’m currently doing a postgraduate diploma in pediatric respiratory physiotherapy and want to specialize in that area.
